- [NEW POV type for my second channel unaltered]: Remember about the unused POVs I uploaded before? Guess what? I decided to upload some bonus ones from the most recent theme park visits in case I either record a different perspective or a different row of each individual ride, resolutions can be effective. And they'll be separated from my main RUclips channel so the same clips will be also used in edited videos that they'll be combined. That would make sense between both youtube accounts.

Details about this ride (Credit to Wikipedia and SeaWorld San Diego website): The second Atlantis opened in 2004 at SeaWorld San Diego. This version lacks the large interior scenes that the Orlando version includes; but makes up for it with the addition of a much larger roller coaster ride. Also, the boats on this version have individual lap-bars.
Track layout:
Riders advance out of the station slowly onto the chain lift hill that is covered in fog machines, which give the illusion of climbing up water. At the top of the lift hill, riders make a full U-turn on a roller coaster track, which wraps around the elevator tower which stands at a height of 95 feet, while traversing a small hump. This turn offers the riders a view of the main roller coaster portion and parts of the park, in which boats emerge above the U-turn. The boat heads toward the 83 foot tall plunge tower, which bares an arched portico with fountain pouring down directly onto the tracks. The boats slip under, plunging down a 60-foot (18 m) flume channel into a pool of water. During the plunge, photos are taken of riders. The boat then makes a left-handed U-turn in the water pool and meanders through the pond gently.The boat then enters the plunge tower building at the base. The building is dark inside. The boats enter a room which lights up dimly and begins to flood. (Water comes through crevices in the wall to achieve the effect). The boats roll out of the room into the darkness and onto a special track that works like an elevator, carrying two boats simultaneously. The elevator rocks from side to side while traveling up, as though being pushed by an ocean current. The elevator stops to reach the maximum height position on the ride's course. The boats drop down a 70-foot, 270° curved drop and rise element, followed by a small block brake section. The boat then drops again into another banked hill, followed by a banked bunny hop which lands into another pool of water. The boats then meander through the pool and up a small lift hill to the loading area. A sliding switch track enables high-capacity, faster loading and unloading process.

If this was more impressively themed it would be a world class attraction. But great example of an awesome ride that is well executed but missed it on theme and scenery.

The Orlando one has the right theming. The rides they have at Sea World San Diego are like the Walmart version of the rides at Sea World Orlando. I might be biased, as a Floridian myself, but I've been to the Orlando park countless times--I had an annual pass for two or three years. I've seen several POVs of the SW SD rides and they don't hold a candle to the ones at SW O. If they had tried to copy the Orlando ride instead of trying to put a twist on it, it would've been way better. Even the boats in Orlando fit the theme--they aren't just those crappy branded flumes like what they have here.
To put it quite frankly, this version of the ride is terribly ugly. To me, the fact that the ride doesn't even start in water, but on a dry track is a red flag. They didn't even *try* to theme this ride. It's like they just set a cookie cutter coaster track down and put some water in some places and some audio and called it a day. How lazy could you be?
Tell that to SW Parks&Ent. San Diego gets the bare versions of rides while they spend all the money on the SWO & the Busch Gardens Parks. Consider yourself lucky. Imagine having SWSD as your home park, we’re really just happy to have anything…

Theming on the Orlando one is so much better! I like the longer roller coaster track part at the end of this one though. That roller coaster feeling is my favorite part at the end of the Orlando one but it’s too short.
That looks fun especially on hot days. When you're hot and sweaty it feels good when the water goes on you. It looked really hot tbh bet the water felt nice

I have a vague memory of going on this with my grandma when I was like...6? I hated every moment of it (not a coaster person) but I thought I remember there used to be porpoises around to further squirt water onto the riders...? Granted it's been almost 19 years since I've been on this thing...
OG version I see and looks like the 2004 ride ya just have before the more coasters Era in 2012 of SeaWorld San Diego. Someone just said about the elevator doors on top before the 2nd drop more coaster portion but no footage is found very sadly of it which is a crying shame.
@@KaiShortsLiveCopyFree5656 yes I remember! That was one of the scary parts for me, before the 2nd drop were doors that kept you from seeing what lied ahead! Things definitely changed over time...but yeah on that lift section is was pure dark even as you reached the top. There may have been a few lights but regardless a lot of the original seem to have been removed. Probably due to mechanical issues or expenses.

Wow the drive into sea world was probably more exciting.
I went on this ride in the 1998 when it first opened, and it looked completely different, it had projector themed video and audio, it had like a story line and everything and the buildings looked like they were themed to Atlantis
Are you sure that wasn't the one in Orlando? It sounds more like that one, and the San Diego one opened in 2004.

Agreed. If a ride wants to tell a story, do it through set dressing, landscaping, artwork/murals, & animatronics. Disney's Pirates of the Caribbean tells a complete, immersive story from beginning to end with virtually no narration! Even rope netting "walls" covered with fish & seaweed lining the waterways would be more theming than this!

Is Sea World permitted to film cameras on rides like this?
Only for action cameras strapped to your body, you could use the videotaping glasses but it needs to be strapped against the limbs.

@Nick A007 Head mount, chest mount, hand mount, and wrist mount properly secured. And speaking of video glasses, pivothead ones for the example. Please Try to search these for youself.

I like that it's a coaster, a water ride, & an elevator incorporated into one, but it needs more visual interest, like plants & stuff, instead of looking like someone built it in the back alleyway of of shopping center.
if you look VERY VERY closly on the coaster part, you can actually see the old boat from journey to Atlantis when it first opened! :)

It's weird, I remember. As a kid, there being more to it, like I could have sworn when you're in the elevator that there were screens of a scene underwater.
there used to be dolphin visuals in the elevator :0 when i was around 5 and they closed it a few yrs later. just like how they used to have the dolphins right next to the ride, not it’s stingrays cause the enclosure was waaaaayyyy too small for dolphins. alas i miss the elevator part w whales nd dolphins but theyve tanked so bad ig it’s forever like that :

They could have done more: murals on the buildings; statues along the waterways (or even animatronics); clever use of art & landscaping to obscure the rest of the park. Instead, it was just a log flume/rollercoaster hybrid with the coaster parts far superior!
Needs that Disney magic and be a indoor ride.
The thing about the park is there’s to much of the same blue. Unlike Orlando in which some rides like manta have a darker blue, mako being purple, kraken being a like blue/really bright teal
Oh yeah, and don't forget about kraken is now green track with dark blue supports. That is variety if colors in SeaWorld isn't it?

As part of the agreement with the California Coastal Commission, the attractions that go above 45ft have to be that blue to help “blend in the skyline.” It’s definitely not SeaWorld’s choice to make them all the same color scheme.
@@NiceOneRoberts Tim is absolutely correct. As a matter of fact, San Diego owns the land. SWSD leased the land for 80yrs (expiring in 2048) and SD must approve any and all construction projects that take place on the land in excess of $500. AND for dozens of years SanDiego in fact wouldnt let them build anything that exceeded average adult tree height of indigenous local species.(one exception was the onaervation pod ride and the skyway rides because they offered panoramic views of the bay). Sw unsuccessfully tried for decades to build rides. For years and years this wad the only SW park which wasnt a park with rides. Then they eventually got to build the Rapids ride. Then Atlantis and at that point they renegotiated to I believe 165ft or so, and everything they build up to that height is required to be presented in that soft blue to blend in.

The water sections desperately need themeing.
It never matters which ride I ride on or watch, it's always the engineering, parts and construction that catches my interest and the hokey dialogue of the storyline slightly irritating.
The sad thing is that no theming would have been preferable to that little mess of talking. The ride is top notch, but that audio with nothing to back it up was sad. Ditch the voices and add a few columns to make it look old.
I’m not a huge fan of the theming in Orlando journey to Atlantis, but it is SO MUCH better than whatever the hell is happening here. The ride itself has so much potential but sadly the story and theming is just boring and bland.

Whoa! That's interesting. I haven't watched the whole video yet, but I really enjoyed the Sea World one down here where I live in Orlando better. And actually, the rollercoaster is short and inside the building.
This ride didn’t seem too exciting. do not touch the water or your hand will stink for the rest of the day, you need to wash your hands really good and then put some disinfectant on it because that water is dirty and nasty.

i remember skipping the entire line and going for the single riders, and going down the splash tower thingy, and i was like woohoo this is so much fun, now we'll drift back to the start, but then we go in a goddamn ELEVATOR and go on a rollercoaster. I was pleasantly surprised, and now call this one of my favorite rides that I recommend all to try, the BOATCOASTER!!
do agree that this boat needs more theming for sure, but execution wise, 10/10
2019 version right that they added single rider? Same thing so we cut the line without Quick Queue at All and not have to worry about its capacity since they don't always use the three boat platforms.
Got stuck on this ride as a kid at the top of the hill lol scariest day ever then after it was unstuck had to go through tht entire ride, which would have been great if I wasn't already traumatized 🙃

We waited an hour and 30 minutes for the Atlantis at Orlando Sea World. It was worth it.
Theming elements that makes that one special, a peak day, hot summer day, or lower capacity might be the cause of a long line to wait for.

You should rided the Jurassic World ride at Unversal Studios Hollywood. It’s a water ride.
Log ride and a coaster in one?? Wtf? That would be a shock of u got on it and just thought it was only a log ride only u were getting on and until u saw the tracks in it change while u were on it! Lol

30 years ago at Universal, they were testing the new version of the JAWS ride. We were chosen to be on the test ride. My husband had his knee ripped open by a screw on the back of the seat in front of us. It was bad. Bled like crazy, blood all over his shorts, socks and sneakers. When we got off he was taken to medical, they cleaned it and bandaged it. That was it, no apology, nothing. I thought he’d get a free pass to visit the park again, or at least a free lunch, or offer to pay for the cleaning of his clothes. Nothing.
I don't understand how this remodel concept got through approval, the only thing I could approve is the smoother tracks. This lady in ride audio is so annoying, especially if you ride multiple times for the sake of cooling off. Also the architecture's color scheme looks like a submarine instead of an ancient city. The other coasters in the background, I could get used to, that doesn't bother me too much.
In my defense for my feelings toward this remodel, I am used to riding story based attractions like Disney and Universal. I like big coasters too, mainly if it fits the right kind of theme park, like Six Flags for example.

First time I rode this, 20 years ago I was confused. It's just such a terrible ride overall. It feels out of pace with zero storyline. Like it was an attempt to copy Disney. And all these years later I still see it's maintained it's horrible-ness 🤣🤣

it be cool if when the ride went onto the water if there was a simulated fins swimming through the water- especially at sea world.with music change. could be an aquarium with a viewing port under the ground with the fluke on an enclosed hidden channel from the participants on the ride.

I feel like the Orlando,FL SeaWorld has the actual theme of Journeying to Atlantis even though they really need to up date and refurbish the characters in the themed story also not to skip major points and reasons for the antagonist

Its cool it goes from water ride to coaster but it is so slow and boring looking. Maybe if it had more scenery and music it would be better
they used to have dolphin visuals in the elevator that was EVERYTHING to me when i was a kid. i genuinely feel it’s because seaworld has tanked after blackfish that they decided to never bring the visuals back. i wish they would change them so the elevator made more sense instead of it being in darkness
Oh I remembered seeing these dolphin screens during its last year in 2012 before I get to film on it! Yeah with a valuable budget, they should give it another TLC after its Costal Commission one in 2019 with a New Set of screens or potentially a decorated gantry lift to spice a little more to retain its supposed theme especially with the similar or same story, just a wish.

I live in San Diego and am embarrassed that that’s the Sea World roller coaster! Please, Tell me what that had to do with Atlantis other than being in the water part of the time. I think they were dolls in the background singing “It’s a Small World.” I think I’d rather go see the penguins! But thanks so much for the ride along!
