The sheet of paper with Japanese inscriptions is upside down. The translation is: Hishi Tamahiko Okami then there is: Kami, temple of Tama Kushi Ohiko-jinja. Maybe it's some kind of prayer card or something that was supposed to bring good luck, some form of talisman. I'm just guessing. To be honest, I have some problems with translating this text accurately, but I'm working on it. I will try to confirm this text with a friend from Japan.
Slight correction,
This appears to be Omamori (protection amulet).
The writing on the right is the name of the kami (deity). 大 = Ō (honorific term) 神 = kami (Shinto term for deity).
I’m sorry, I don’t know the correct pronunciation of the previous characters (name of the deity).
On the left is the name of the shrine (jinja) (the kanji for the kami’s name are repeated). 神社 = jinja/shrine.
御守 = O mamori (O = honorific term. Mamori = to protect).
The red stamp would be the seal of the shrine.
I hope that I was able to be helpful in some way in translating this card. I contacted a friend and he basically confirmed what I wrote earlier. Some characters are difficult to translate.

@@grin1972 I think you are mostly correct! jinja means Shrine and I believe this is a prayer to a Female (Okami) who is enshrined at Tama-Kushi Ohiko Shrine. This falls inline with a Japanese fairytail that dates to 1905. This would be something given by a woman who was waiting for his return as they were to be married.
My Uncle was a veteran who fought on Okinawa. He never spoke much about his experience to anyone until I received orders to MCAS Futenma in the late 80's. Before I left, he asked me to come spend a day with him. I arrived at 10:00am, and he took me into his den, closed and locked the door. He had a wood box in the center of the room, he told me to pry it open for him, that he had not openned it since he nailed it in 1946 when he left Okinawa. The items inside each had a story, and the area where that story happened. Servicemen don't collect artifacts to prove we won the war, they collect artifacts because of a story connected to the artifact. Sometimes, those stories are are so extreme that it is hard to believe, the artifact is just a way to show that evil in this world exists, and men fought against that evil. I understood this much more after my own experiences after Desert Storm and 9/11. My Uncle asked me to return many items to Okinawa, which I can proudly say are mostly on display in the Museum at the former Japanese Navy Underground Headquarters where the majority of the artifacts were collected.
Thought about this channel today as I was walking through Abraham Lincoln’s Springfield Illinois home, and later paying my respects at his tomb. If you haven’t been to the Lincoln presidential library and museum in Springfield, I can very highly recommend it.

I always get that "Christmas Morning" feeing whenever I watch one of these Unboxing episodes.
I had not heard of Hawaiian bills as a contingency in case Hawaii was captured by the Japanese. Just one of those things that reminds you of the uncertainty of the outcome of the war felt by those living through it at the time. I see a number of sources insisting the Axis Powers were always destined to lose the war. Its little things like the Hawaiian bills that remind us that in 1941 the outcome was not at all certain to those experiencing that global conflict.
Great point, in 1941 there was so much going on in the war. Between Germany and Japan it must have been very scary, at that time victory for the Allies was definitely not a certainty.
I have purchased several Civil War items from the museum and have always been so pleased with how carefully they are handled.

Unboxing and opening stuff can be very 'interesting'.
Years ago, I was stewarding at an exhibition for RAF Hornchurch. A man approached me with a carrier bag and said 'is that right you like war stuff' and handed me the bag which was heavy. In it was a shell.
We evacuated the building, police and army arrived, the shell was examined and proved to have been made safe. It was a WW1 French 75mm, and the army explained that a live one would have ruined our weekend.
It wouldn't have ruined your weekend. You guys would have had a blast! 😁

I too am a civil war history buff.
Along with the Revolutionary War.
The Aotake blueish green metallic paint is clearly present and only used on Japanese aircraft. Their version of zinc chromate anticorrosive paint on the interior of their aircraft. The red piece being from the Hinomaru red sun on all Japanese aircraft. Amazing items from a Kamikaze aircraft that hit its target. Incredible!

I love the Navy stuff. My dad was a Navy Corpsman also present during Leyte. I have all his uniforms and a box of photos he took during Philippine liberation. There is one of a Japanese plane sticking nose down into a pile of rubble where it crashed. A whole shoebox full of pics of the destruction in Manila. I also have the Kodak camera he took the pics with. A real treasure. I just wish I could have talked to him about the photos. I have a Yard pic of his Navy unit in 1938 in San Diego. It was the Navy Brig Detention unit. He was a prison guard lol. He was the guidon bearer and is holding it in the pic. I also have the Guidon itself. Coolest thing I have by far.
Mr. Erik Dorr a wonderful treasure of goods. From WW2. Those things gathered from kamikaze planes. We’re just awesome. I had my grandfather’s 48 star flag he carried in WW1. Need to locate it. I also have His uniform. He was in the Corp. of Engineering in WW1 . At some point I’m considering donating to your Museum. JD does a great job on his channel. Promoting you and your work in preserving these Artifacts. Thank you for sharing!

As a Navy veteran, I can tell you that while underway in the Pacific it would be extremely rare for a sailor to wear his wool crackerjack's i.e. the uniform shown. Except for manning the rail on departure/arrival we generally wore our summer white crackerjacks. Thank you for representing our magnificent Naval history in addition to "ALL" your great work👍⚓️

I have sent images of war souvenirs my dad brought back to the museum but they weren't unique enough for him to take. Even though it yas a SS Dagger and Nazi flag. Thanks you two band of brothers!

I spent 2 years on the battleship Missouri as a 16 inch GMG back in the 1980's aft turret, center gun. Down on one of the projectile decks a GMG back in WW2 dropped his brass battleship Missouri lighter and it fell between the decks rings, still there to this day. One one of the spare parts we had was a metal tag that listed the ship it was for. It said U.S.S. Kentucky BB 66. Still have that tag somewhere in the house.

Thank you Erik & JD for an excellent episode. I always think of our soldier who handled the item/s unboxed. Did he or she manage to have a normal life, what did they do in life after repatriation. And of course you think of the individual that carried these items.

I was wondering if you are interested in the cold war history? Around Tucson, Arizona there was 17 Titan II Missile sites. There is only one left, it is now a Museum. If you find yourself in the Southwest check it out.

My Dad was on the USS DuPage APA-41. His ship was hit by a Kamikaze on 15 January, 1945, in Lingayen Gulf, Philippines.

Honestly, it depends on the document and the date. I’d check into the website regularly to see what’s available.
I fail to see the logic behind videos of merchandise that is no longer available, particularly since the video is often the notification that the item is available.
Ummmm, why hide the price tags?
Yesterday (may 4) was remembrance day in the Netherlands and today (may 5) is liberation day on which we celebrate our liberation from nazi tyranny.
Around this time it is always brought to our attention what the nazis did to our country and the world and how we must never again let that kind of hate prevail.
It will always seem wild to me how popular any items with a swastika are with collectors. Over here the most prevailing thought is that that stuff belongs in a museum where it can be put into historical context. Symbols of hate are not novelty items. But that is just my opinion I guess.
Love you guys and what you're doing, but your DAF and Arbeitsbuch are way overpriced. $25 tops for the arbeitsbuch and maybe $25 to $40 for the DAF books. Both of these types can be bought in Germany by the hundreds for about a buck each.

RUclips will kill it. That exact thing has happened to us before when reading a historic document. It's ridiculous, but it is what it is. Between the two, I'd prefer that more people be able to see the video and get exposed to the history.
