We LOVE Time Team, esp. the original decades -- wish it could have gone on forever as it was, but I'm glad that it's still with us, despite the loss of very much loved archaeologists -- so happy to get to see Helen Geake and Stewart Ainsworth, John Gater, Carenza Lewis and Matt, and other veterans of the first wonderful T T series. I am also happy to see new, updated technology, which surely must make life easier for all! Everyone worked very hard on that series. I hope they're pleased to know that they've been watched, and greatly enjoyed, by people around the world, Bravo to you all!

This one moved me at the end. I'm not from the UK and I came to these through RUclips but I have fallen in love with the whole team. This show really has been one of the best "reality" programs ever, imo. The reason is that, from what I can see, the whole team makes a genuine effort to show the real process. The thought, study, expertise and care that archaeologists practice in their daily jobs. It's kind of moving when I think about it. An honest picture of the lives of the peoples who lived there starts to emerge by the end. The whole team should take great pride in making exciting and genuinely educational content.

I have always loved how this show gave us real people doing their jobs. Various experts coming together with a common goal and any "drama" was usually by way of nature, context of the finds and professional discourse and the occasional struggle to reach consensus. American television could not handle this format...

Oh my god - so good to see Paul again!!! Please bring him back always. - So cool to focus on a previous find by Helen for a modern episode. Great subject matter.
It's too bad Time Team doesn't have the money to bring in top-fill that would give a buffer depth of soil to protect the rest of the area for future plowing. Certainly there are plenty of other areas in Britain with loads of good topsoil that could be brought over. it would broth preserve for future digs, and probably give the farmer better yields.

In regards to the difficulty of relocating the original excavation - I did archaeology in central California for almost 20 years, and it was our standard practice to put in some readily identifiable and relocatable “artifacts” before re-filling the excavation, for example, an aluminum soft-drink can at each corner of a unit. This would make it easier to determine later where our units had been, if we dug at the site later, and alert future archaeologists to the fact that this area had been previously disturbed.

I worked as a student on a dig in England in 2002 and they put cans in as well. Both the head guys were trained in America, so maybe they brought this practice with them. Could be that the global industry standard changed over time as well.

@@Wanda-v4b They also made the howling error of not taking the original GPS reading (GPS!) seriously. Even if a GPS reading has error bars on it, the recorded coordinates were at the centra of that uncertainty distribution so the best place to start! But the mistake was serendipitous; if they had concentrated on Our Lady's grave they wouldn't have found anything as interesting as the other trenches revealed.

With the holidays fast upon us I took a moment remembering of Christmas past. The importance of family and friends, and how time team has brought us together. A time when families would place a Victorian tree as the centrepiece in the middle of the room, carefully decorating it with small bags containing everything from popcorn balls to chocolates and candy fruits, etc. On Christmas Eve, we would gather with family and friends, and during the festivities, you would wear a blindfold, circle the tree, and pick your treats. Along with some gag gifts, nothing too bad, but someone always got a bag of coal-a couple of BBQ briquettes wrapped up. Which usually means you had to do the dishes afterwards. These are fun times filled with laughter as a way of bringing people together before the celebrations of Christmas. Have a wonderful Merry Christmas and Happy New year everyone.

If there is anyone here interested in Anglo Saxon Britain who has not seen Michael Wood's "In Search of the Dark Ages" series then I strongly advise you to seek it out (a few copies here on YT I believe). If you need persuading, then none other than Paul Blinkhorn (TT's original "pot-monkey", in this episode) cited that Michael Wood series as the thing that inspired him to become an archaeologist. Paul also worked with Wood on later (excellent) programmes. I would also unhesitatingly nominate Wood's "In Search of the Trojan War" as the greatest archaeology-inspired TV investigation ever - happy to see some alternatives suggested!

I love how they have a plushie of prof Mick Aston and they even feature it here in this video/episode!! This episode made me very emotional because I have been watching their episodes since I discover Time Team here in RUclips and watching the other OG staffs that are still in Time Team and now they aged makes me happy. I love you Time Team! May your program soar high and last forever. Thank you so much for all the insights that I have learned in each of your episodes. I miss the banter of Tony and Phil.

I have been a long time fan. I have enjoyed any research into Anglo -Saxon history. Dr. Helen Geeke will always be my favorite historian and expert on that subject. She is still very beautiful.

Just found this channel and I’m over the moon!! I used to love the old series and I can’t wait to watch all the new episodes and some of the old ones too. It’s good to see some of the original team members here too, especially Helen.

I have been such a fan of the original Time Team series... it plays in the background while I clean the house and work on my Phil Harding impression (I use it while digging in the dirt with my son). I love this new format where we get so much more from each day of the dig!

The jewellery of ancient times absolutely fascinates me (as a young goldsmith and designer). I just finished an intricate 9ct gold bangle that took about 4 days to make. I adapted the design specifically to avoid soldering wherever possible as even with precision blowtorches and gold and solder alloys that are precisely made up and relatively predictable in their behavior, I still prefer to avoid creating multiple solder joints (everyone has something in the trade that gives them more trouble than anything else and soldering is one of mine). How a craftsman could create something so precise and so delicate with such limited resources makes an already exquisite piece of jewelry absolutely awe inspiring

As time and funds allow, going back to revisit some older TT digs like this with the newer technology and information available is great! Plus please have Sam on every Anglo Saxon dig! His song reminded me of when I had to memorize and perform the first 14 lines of Chaucer's Canterbury Tales in front of my 10th grade english class in 1983. HAH!
