As someone who was an evangelical Christian for 20+ years, this movie is pretty standard. The amount of infantilizing Christian movies/ sermons do to Christians, is intentional. It’s not meant to be thought about or questioned. I still consider myself to be some form of Christian. But the amount of thought stopping techniques and childish ways of thinking is very hard to tear away from. This movie provides great examples of what Christians are actually taught. Christian movies are notoriously bad. This genre may have a lot for you to look into, that haven’t been over saturated with reviews. Some are better than others, but most of their “what world are they from ?!” doesn’t change.
That trial scene was severely uncomfortable. And like, neglect can be emotional abuse and an abused victim can still love their abuser so I dont see where the movie was going with that line of argument.
the children in this movie scare me on a level unreachable by traditional horror. sociopathic children are real and they walk among us, but only because they're so poorly supervised.
I consume a lot of bad-movie-commentary type media. I’m a huge fan of this format and also of Willie. The combination is just **muah** chef’s kiss. Eddie’s Million Dollar Cook-Off is one of my all-time fave bad movies.

I keep being surprised when your videos end up having overarching morals. The topics you choose tend to be niche, or seem like brains-off, shallow entertainment at first; and yet you continue to pull deep thoughts out of them! I love this series, and I hope it and you continue to thrive.
My parents got divorced, and during the whole process they *never* talked to each other as harshly as the parents do in this movie, at least not in front of us kids. Like, having your parents constantly belittle and insult each other whenever they're in the same room is really upsetting for kids, it's not something they just shrug off as a goof. Good review but the clips of this movie I find genuinely upsetting.
The one I found most upsetting is where the lawyer blames the wife's response to the husband's lack of attention and care for the failure of the marriage. You could just *tell* that's how the writer really feels about women. Like, sure, the husband should be better, but women are evil if they don't suck it up and submit.
@@vintagearisen the patriarchal religious stance seems to be that in that situation the wife has to try harder and provide a home her husband "wants to come home to". Same reason they blame the wife when the husband cheats - she must not be doing her job right if her husband doesn't want to spend every waking moment at home.
Could I make a suggestion? [ Assuming you thought *YES.* ] Here is single-handedly the worst B-Movie Horror I have ever seen. It clearly had budgetary issues where some scenes had CGI and the next being really bad SFX Makeup; weird storylines that have no purpose; and some of the most hilariously outlandish dialogue/monologues. The movie? Hyenas (2011). I haven’t seen anyone talk about this raunchy, so-bad-it-is-good movie and honestly- I am sick of it! I need at least one other person to have seen that insane movie! Thank you in advance.
I love your videos! Bad movie suggestion: thomas and the magic railroad. They cut the main villain out bc it was too scary for children and so made an already confusing film even more unfathomable. The girl from Matilda plays the main character. An old man is weirdly sexual about cleaning a train.
Wait. I just had war flashbacks and I think I've seen this movie. If I'm thinking of the same movie, I remember being completely confused by the final 1/3 of the movie, so your explanation checks out...
Nostalgia Critic did this. It IS a weird move since it's such a sweet TV show. The name of the old man escapes me right now but he's super accomplished, like a Robert Reford type, and he's bringing his ALL to a role that really doesn't need it, lol.
My favourite bad movie is Dracula 3000. The premise sounded good; vampire in space so there is no sunlight to kill it, the crew of the ship need to get to a star. Watched it and the vampire looked like a dad dressed up for Halloween. It was too weird to turn off so I just kept watching. I think there was some stuff about religion being outlawed and then one secretly religious guy having a crucifix and making some dramatic speeches about evil. I don't know how well known it is, I hadn't heard of it before I watched it, but I fully recommend.
hi i'm law student and the kids would have a "guardian ad litum" that represents the best interests of the kids. not to stop the divorce, but things like custody, splitting time, living situation, communication, etc. This person doesn't have to be a lawyer because they aren't part of the litigation of divorce itself. they are a neutral party who is there JUST for the kids in order to represent what is best for them after learning about them.
Im losing my mind at the editing in this movie. "down THAT hill?“ followed by ominous ambient sounds. And it's just. A regular little hill. No dramatic colour correction to go with the overly dramatic sound choice. Just. A green, happy, absolutely un-intimidating, hill.
On a personal level,as a child of multiple divorces, I hate this crap. Divorce is not an easy route. They’re hard and time consuming and expensive. But they are ultimately for good. Every one that happened when I was a kid were necessary. I would have had an awful time if my mother and father were still together. I had plenty of love and time with them, and I love my step mom. I hate when these movies just exist to vilify the family dynamic I grew up with. How many bad marriages will soldier on into abuse territory instead of just separating and coparenting?
I know it's 2 yrs ago, but also wanted to chime in here. I was a child of multiple divorces as well, and I can still remember the sheer relief I felt at 7 yrs old when my parents finally gave up on their ill-considered marriage and divorced. Both of them went thru other marriages and divorces, none unnecessary and at least one left far too long. My dad's 3rd marriage and mother's 4th were their last, and finally happy, marriages and I'm glad they did what it took to get to them.
The thing with the yarn is clearly supposed to be a family analogy, but I can't help get the feeling it's also a low-key reference to the fascist "bundle of sticks" metaphor XD
There's a Christian movie where some middle eastern guys build a time machine to assassinate Jesus to prevent the ressurection, it's fantastically awful.
🤣🤣🤣 You're kidding!?! Jesus was supposedly middle-eastern. lol Would've made more sense having Romans go back. Completely racist. 🤣🤣🤣 But, that's Christians for ya.
That idea sounds (from a mythology stand point) like a modern day retelling of Breer Rabbit. "Let's kill the guy that can come back from the dead" sounds a lot like "Let's throw him in the briar patch." And since they were able to add those heavily racist over tones (like Disney did with their telling of Uncle Remus), it is a perfect fit.
Totally agree with the sentiment of finding "imperfect" things, because they do have a lot of value. Some friends of mine and I have started this thing where every Friday, we watch two movies: one "main feature," which is typically something we're genuinely interested in (can range anywhere from the new King Kong vs. Godzilla movie to Shrek), picked by a variety of methods, and then the second movie is picked by a specific one of my friends who knows about some, very strange media. The "Mystery Movie," we call it. It can be anything from a terrible horror movie from the 60's to a surreal Korean animated film about fish living in a tank at a little sushi store/fish market. Some of them are things you'd never see in mainstream media, but still manage to be some of the most memorable and unironically good movies I've ever seen (Padak [the fish movie I described] and Wild Zero [an off-the-wall movie about a Japanese rock band], to name a few). Even the movies that are bad do create some very unique, memorable moments (and are often times just amusing to make fun of), much moreso than a lot of just, "good" movies of mainstream media that manage to be vaguely entertaining but will have completely left my mind within the week. The fact it's such a social thing also definitely helps, but I think it's a worthwhile exercise regardless.

There is a movie I just remembered from my childhood called “The Magic Gourd”. It was dubbed in English and had this orange CGI magical gourd that helped a little boy by granting his wishes? The boy was also on a swim team or did competitions. I can’t remember much else but I remember watching it every once in a while as a kid and one day just realizing that I didn’t like it any more because of the message? And I was the kind of kid who just liked everything for the most part (unless I’m was too scary or violent, etc.) and just kind of accepted things. So if I suddenly thought it had a bad message as a child it must have been wild. I’d love to see someone talk about it. So I offer it up, if this comment ever gets seen. EDIT: spelling

Oof. I so want to watch this! I love long videos. But I'm still (shamefully) traumatized from my own emotionally/psychologically/other abusive marriage. Luckily we had no children. He was a very cunning, manipulative, gaslighting man child. When I offered up marriage counseling, he **legitimately** used the following as an argument: "Jenn, you know if we go see a therapist I'm smart enough to make them think whatever I want and make you look crazy" 🤣 But maybe it won't be so bad. I love your other videos!! I was raised in a very, very low key Protestant (?) Congregational church. It was super chill. It was like "hey! Come on in! We're just gonna sit and talk about Jesus, being better people and sing a few hymns. After we'll catch up with coffee!" I went to Catholic high school. And. Like. Damn. 🤦♀️ 🤣
If I can make a suggestion that might not get read on a several-month-old video: my favorite method for finding terrible old movies is thrift stores. You don't have to, like, buy the movie or anything (if it's a VHS you might not have a player, if it's a DVD it'll probably be scratched), but the covers are usually indicative of the quality of the movie and at the very least you can grab a few titles. I found one of my favorite bad cartoons that way lol

Thankyou so much for this video. I needed this. You were intentionally and unintentionally hilarious. And I'm like...'ok...uuummm...I appear to have missed a vital part of this video. Go back.' But once I got the context it was also great but I'm so happy that I got to hear that line out of context. Also I got the best burns from mum and snd dad they are so bitter and icdont want to laugh at people's pain but also...perfect 🔥 . 'I remember when your dad used to remember little things' or 'what's that? Pouring your heart out? Oh sorry Hun...Susan the secretary just called and I don't have a moment to spare and also f u.' Or the grilling the poor mum got...I didn't know it was possible to laugh and also feel empathy for someone very different for me and Willie you make me feel strange and mixed emotions and I'm here for it.'
13:33 Rainer Maria Rilke has a poem positing that God is the son, not the father. He's something we create and nurture and who will live on after us. Sorry if that's random but I can't not talk about Rilke. 😂

Christian movies are notoriously bad. This genre may have a lot for you to look into, that haven’t been over saturated with reviews. Some are better than others, but most of their “what world are they from ?!” doesn’t change.
Pretty much the only ones I've seen covered are from the gods not dead franchise

Knitcholas is such a wretched soul he's literally what my depression voice sounds like I hate him lol but every good show needs a good villain

I love that movie unironically. Oh God. Why do you think it's bad?! 😰

VelociPaster - After losing his parents, a priest travels to China, where he inherits a mysterious ability that allows him to turn into a dinosaur. Although he is horrified by the new power, a hooker convinces him to use it to fight crime.
Bad movies, not fantastic B-movies
I keep being surprised when your videos end up having overarching morals. The topics you choose tend to be niche, or seem like brains-off, shallow entertainment at first; and yet you continue to pull deep thoughts out of them!
I love this series, and I hope it and you continue to thrive.
Yeah, I came to this channel just cause he was funny and then it got really philosophical; love it :D
Thank you!! I will check it out!
@@WillieMuse2 I apologize in advance and you are welcome. It sure is... something special.
I love your videos! Bad movie suggestion: thomas and the magic railroad. They cut the main villain out bc it was too scary for children and so made an already confusing film even more unfathomable. The girl from Matilda plays the main character. An old man is weirdly sexual about cleaning a train.
That sounds fascinating 😂
Omg that was one of my favorite movies as a kid lol
"I'm going to stop nitpicking because I feel like if I don't we'll be here all day" he says as if that isn't what I want to do all day.
Reas the room, Willie.
Knit-picking if you will
hi i'm law student and the kids would have a "guardian ad litum" that represents the best interests of the kids. not to stop the divorce, but things like custody, splitting time, living situation, communication, etc.
Clearly you've never ran/fallen full speed down a hill that steep... 😅 There are probably a LOT of rocks and such
@@tortillachips3911 i have mega adhd ofc I have. The editing is still funny
Goodness, the knit background has grown so much in the past 3 years.
When you finish the flag, are you gonna found your own micro-nation?
I hope so. I'll definitely join.

i cant even start with how bad that sounds and its amazing.
"Let's kill the guy that can come back from the dead" sounds a lot like "Let's throw him in the briar patch."
And since they were able to add those heavily racist over tones (like Disney did with their telling of Uncle Remus), it is a perfect fit.
Willie, you're a treasure (I hear you objecting, shuddup and accept it). Also hooray for catholic guilt. It'll stay with us to the grave.

I watched it when I was in middle school when I read the original prose, and looking back I understood absolutely nothing about either.
But I remember the movie being very bad, completely different from the prose version, and for some reason had a goofy farmer uncle and also zombies? Idk might be worth checking out.

But maybe it won't be so bad. I love your other videos!!
I was raised in a very, very low key Protestant (?) Congregational church.
It was super chill. It was like "hey! Come on in! We're just gonna sit and talk about Jesus, being better people and sing a few hymns. After we'll catch up with coffee!"
I went to Catholic high school. And. Like. Damn. 🤦♀️

The parents who would show this to their kids are the ones trying to justify staying in their failing marriage due to their religion to children who have figured out that everyone would be better off if the parents broke up.
The immediate change from Waiter Actor to emotionally rotting Scott Baio made me laugh so hard i had to go back and watch it three times
Thankyou so much for this video. I needed this. You were intentionally and unintentionally hilarious. For eg...I listened to this like a podcast while I was cleaning with my mum and dad so mum interuppted me to ask me something so I took my earphone out and listened to her...and I came back to hear 'so here we are watching unsupervised pre-teens talk to strangers on the internet.' And I'm like...'ok...uuummm...I appear to have missed a vital part of this video.
Thank you for starting the video with swearing me out. Needed that
13:33 Rainer Maria Rilke has a poem positing that God is the son, not the father. He's something we create and nurture and who will live on after us. Sorry if that's random but I can't not talk about Rilke. 😂
I just discovered this channel and I love them! You have quite a relaxing way of speaking and I love your growing knitted tapestry. That object lesson with the yarn threw me for a loop because it reminded me of a scene from the Kurosawa movie Ran, which I haven't watched since 1990, but I want to say he did it with 3 arrows or sticks as a lesson to his sons that they are stronger together. So yeah, I didn't see the throuple with Jesus coming either.
the string alegory feels like knock of czech legent about king svatopluk I. teling his three sons that if they rule over the kingdom together theyll be stronger than ever but he used sticks in the alegory
for those curious it didnt work they got into fight and hell ensued so I guess the lesson is dont tell your kids what to do by stupid props alegories
The actress who plays the young daughter is Scott Baio's daughter. Now I'm going down a strange rabbit hole. What an add assortment of acting credits.
Ah, she's probably the baby from his reality show. When he positioned himself as a womanizer. And said having a girl was "ironic." And now he makes evangelical Christian movies co-starring his baby girl. It's all saved on film, Scotty.
The Flop House, How Did This Get Made, Drew Gooden, and the other one (I’m guessing Danny) are some of my favorites!
