Is there a smaller printer you would recommend? I looked at the old video of when you first started to print the death korps, and the 3d printer you recommend in that video is now out of stock if you could recommend one that will be great if not then oh well
Maybe you could help me trouble shoot something. I had a failed print in my Sonic mighty 8k and it has been making noises at the start of the print on every print after it. Also, the early layers are all bunched up now. Do I need to replace my Z axis motor?
Right? I just imagine having a whole army of Blood Knights/Grave Gaurd from the older VC lists. Last I looked they were like 120 for 5 knights. FIVE! And you could not even make them all knights, it was 4 and 1 champion.
@@ClemiHW I am assuming the increase is from them shifting it to "finecast" aka, failcast (hey, I learned that term from one of their employees). Which is even more absurd because it does not cost that much to make 1 unit. I could understand if they redesigned the knights like they did the coach, but at the time they were the same model, just produced differently.
@@RoseKindred In France back in June they increased the price to 6% more, if that's because they're shifting to finecast then that's a huge loss I think most people are now switching to proxies and just use official merch for tournaments
I mean it took a lot of glue to assemble 3D-printed BFG9000 (yes I remember hearing that ID Software did in fact make a life sized copy of BFG9000 on a 3d printer), so I bet life sized Kriegsman would take a lot of effort to assemble and probably some steel rods as base.
Don't know about your idea with those little ones, but you could made a tremendously epic diorama, with 1 or 2 titans and hundreds of death soldiers by their feets
Even the very first 3d printers could print faster than 80% of painters can even paint. These new huge ones for personal use you would easily print way more than you could ever paint.
I would be afraid of overloading a plate that size. Just surprising how much can fit, but one shift or wobble... or cat, and so much wasted time/resin. At least the bad prints do make good scatter terrain when cleaned.
If you’ve got some 3D modeling skills you could make use of the vertical build volume and stack the miniatures on towers, you could probably print close to 500 or more in 1 print provided that you had enough resin.
It's amazing that, whether you go for a bottom-of-the-barrel 3d printer, or a top-of-the-line 8K XL printer, it's still far cheaper than buying the models from GW or Forge. It's just becomes a decision of how much money do you want to save.
Did you consider aligning the torso and arms before printing, and printing each model whole? You could have done 10-20 different poses and that might have saved you all the hassle of gluing.
These are Valor Korps and are IP neutral. The issue with Krieg is they are pretty much exact copies of historical WW1 uniforms. Only the helmet badge is GW IP.
Brother, I think you just sold me on joining your Patreon. I owe you anyway - your advice this last year has saved me tons. And my Grey Knights thank you for it.
For combatting the colder temperatures you mentioned, YMMV but I wouldn't recommend upping your exposure times across the board; I just increased the times on my initial burn-in layers (and upped the burn-inlayer count to 10, with 25 transitional layers). Thataway the machine and resin get headed up, but only the rafts are affected. I'd be too scared of affecting the quality of the miniatures if I messed with the print settings that actually affect them. I also have my printer in its own closed cabinet, that retains heat fairly well. Not sure if this affects anything all that much, but I also have an FDM printer at the base of the cabinet which I run a short job on first before any resin print, hoping it'll heat the space above a smidge. Perhaps it's just superstition! But I get it to print 10 small bases or something like that.
I think you should print the basis for every Tau horde army! 1830pts of 60 Kroot Carnivores, 30 Kroot Farstalkers, 60 Breachers, 60 Strikers, 30 Pathfinders. 3 Recon Drones, 30 Gun Drones, 12 Support Turrets, and then add Shadowrun and a rando character.
Hey! Is there any reason you prefer Chitubox over Lychee? I find the former really janky and full of odd little glitches. Plus Lychee's new auto-support features seem to work so well (though you do need to give models a manual check at the end). My current workflow is; manually orient the model, use "magic" auto-supports, then use the "generate supports only on islands" feature (detailed island scan), manually add/alter any supports and then use the magic "Optimize" function. It's yet to cause me any major failures, though I did have an incident with a couple of halberds where I hadn't properly checked the bottoms of the blades.
Worst part of chitubox I'm finding is the camera movement rotating around objects in the scene. It doesn't rotate around what you've got selected and makes traversing it absolute hell...
New to resin 3D printing, question might sound stupid; but wouldn't this print at a lower quality than a 8K mini due to the pixel density? If it's double the buildplate and prob lcd screen size at the same 8k resolution wouldn't this be more similar to printing in 4K on a mini?
Some slicers let you fuse model parts within the program itself before printing. Doing that could have saved you a good chunk of time gluing the parts together after printing.
Saves time building but opens up a whole new issue with orientation and snapping those thin gun barrels. For space marine models, definitely, for thinner figures better to stay safe and keep seperate
Next challenge: Imperator class titan....I know of like maybe 2 files that exist but they are pretty easy to find. However a Astraeus Super-heavy Tank may be a nice print.
Here is a big test for you… in keeping with the Krieg theme. The Gnom medium artillery carriage. It’s on myminifactory the creator is Nate Feyma. The tractor in the front is the size of Super heavy Baneblade as is the tractor at the back. The gun is massive. The model takes 6 to 8 litres. Try to come up with a print that uses the entire Z axis to print regular soldiers. You can do this using tiered support layers but its very tricky! You could potentially do 1,000 kriegsmen in a single print.

5:58 - Why are those prints so glossy? High quality prints should have more of a matt finish. Glossy prints can be caused by using low quality resin, having incorrect exposure settings, or too much anti aliasing.
Dirty IPA during cleanup or not enough washing can also cause glossy prints because the resin residue on the surface fills the microtexture that would result in a matte finish.
I would use it to print giant parts. I can see this as a way to mass produce, so now 3d Printers can make a lot more. Do you notice a quality loss at higher speeds?
