    Mean Green Mildew Destroyer works like magic to get rid of that black mold inside storage compartments and under the console. Also works well diluted 50/50 on vinyl cushions - diluting it and rinsing thoroughly after a few minutes helps to avoid damaging the cushion stitching.

    I recently sprayed my cushions with Duplicolor vinyl spray paint. Cleaned them really well beforehand and scuffed them lightly with 220. Cleaned again with acetone and then did multiple light coats. They look great and it has been probably 6 months so far and they're holding up well.

    Rust oleum vinyl spray paint works very well to make cushions look new again. I’m not sure on how long it will last with heavy use, but one of my boats, now my nephew’s boat, is going on 4 years and still looks good with light use.

    I've always used Spray-Nine. Black mold in compartments on boats is probably one of the most hated things about boat ownership. Then and oxidation on the gelcoat. :)

      Yeah, you always gotta wax after using the harsh chemicals on the boat :) rust remover, muriatic acid, toilet bowl cleaner, bleach. A lot of people forget how porous gel coat is and without wax it gets dirty quick! lol

    Hey guys , a brush with bleach works good in tight places . A good paint respirator will keep you from choking to death. Also I find that if you wet the threading before bleaching the upholstery it helps save them. Keep up the good work..

    If you have it looking like in the clip after cleaning. 1 Mask up the area to stop over spray. 2 use a can of vinyl spray. 3 apply your moisturiser & uv protector. Nb I’m in Australia and use a vinyl product called SEM from Veriety Paints and more in Wangara Western Australia. I’m sure you can buy it in the USA.

    The mildew ate through the vinal, that's why it's deteriorated so much, it's in the cushion itself. Unfortunately the mildew will continue to return as the roots are deep inside at this point. My 78 bowrider has the same issue, the seats aren't as bad but the cover unfortunately had to go. It would need to be deep cleaned twice if not 3 times a season just to look okay... just said screw it and bought a new bimini

    To get rid of mold like that I was told by an old boater, skipper, years ago, white vinegar and water more vinegar than water, about 25% water and the rest white Vinegar, don't use the other vinegar as it could cause staining, also try it on a concealed section and make sure it is a small area, I have not tried it my self and do not know what it may do to modern material's. Jim from Scotland.

    The areas on the cushions that are rough are due to the mold. Like a roof or any item, mold attacks a surface and destroys it. That’s why you do not allow mold to grow, clean regularly.

    Bleach-based products seem to work on the widest spectrum.
    Many of these take hours to work their magic so follow directions.

    Aaron, love your extremely helpful videos and podcasts. I would like your opinion on my 1987 Evinrude 88hp V4 crossflow (freshwater use). I was doing my annual maintenance and replacing my spark plugs. I am using champion QL77JC4. My manual states that the spark plug gap should be set at .040. I read on the web that Evinrude changed their recommended spark plug gap for my engine in the early 90s to .030 to make plugs last longer. That seems like a big difference to me. I am thinking I will split the difference and gap my new plugs to .035. What is your opinion? Thank you.

    • @BornAgainBoating
      @BornAgainBoating  5 месяцев назад

      I just looked at an Evinrude & Johnson Outboard Spark Plug Application Chart that was revised in 2009, it says: 88, 90, 100, 110, 112, 115HP 1979-1998 will use QL77JC4 or QL82C plugs with a gap of .030" so I'd gap them down to the .030. The plugs must have been losing spark because of the larger gap, or it was messing up the ignition coils because they would need to work harder to jump that larger gap, even more as the plugs wore out :/
