  • In this interview, Shelly opens up about her drug use. She's currently homeless on the streets of Kensington, PA. She often does dates with men for money, but actually got stabbed 7 times once by a date she knew. She's been in the hospital at least once a month since last November. She gets wound care all the time for infections and sores on her legs. The skin is actually falling off.

No teeth, slit throat, raw legs, stabbed 7 times , scarred faced, excruciating pain, heart attack and only 32. Homeless and a drug addict, yet you can still see she is a beautiful young woman under it all. Can’t help but to wonder how different her life could have been. Intelligence and three little girls she obviously loves. What a shame. Prayers 🙏

Yes indeed- but on the other side I have to say as an (ex)-addict too:
the craving to drugs and to use again is really immensely heavy (especially at the first days!),
but YOU HAVE TO PUSH TROUGH THAT if you ever want to be clean (and in case of this poisoning tranq-dope and the life threatening wounds that it causes- just to life!)!
That’s the strength that is needed from your own,
      that’s the real hard part,
      - and no one and no medicine can really take this hard part away from you!!
All you can do is talk about it a lot to people who understand,
try to bring your mind and thoughts into other activities (very helpful is going into the nature,
      or be with animals),
find a hobby like sports or some handwork, arts, ect…
Helping others in anyways is also very helpful - it brings joy and a purpose!
But it stays really hard for a long time and then always again if bad things/times happen to you…
But it gets also better, as more time goes by!
Humans are always poled on routines very much,
and everyone would get in trouble first, if a such strong and personal important routine
like take drugs mostly plenty times a day and for a long time - maybe years would disappear!
Because every high is a powerful experience to the brain!!
And yes- this is a strong psychological withdrawal also- very logical!
But again- without a strong will for chancing you can’t do it…
But it’s makeable and it’s so worth it it!!✨

The biggest thing she taught me was the spiritual part of the program. The rest I learned at meetings, service work up to the state level. I went to far more meetings than my friends because I was hanging onto every word. I made at least a step meeting and also a tradition meeting once a week or more. Today I’m the elder states”man” with 36 years clean and sober. I still sponsor people and a few for 25 years. I owe everything to God and AA. My life has been beyond my wildest dreams.
