This album is literally all over the place, even Tyler himself admitted it in an interview, but it's still a good experience.

Its good tho not every album has to a deep meaning even this album had a deep meaning which was him finding him self fr fr aka finding his wings

OKAGA, CA is Tyler’s most underrated track. It always sounded like the end of the world to me. In a beautiful chaotic way.

Cherry Bomb and Flower Boy are actually directly connected, where he gets in the car and turns on the radio in Cherry Bomb, and the songs are playing off of the radio. Then at the end of Flower Boy he gets out of the car

A few fun facts about some of the songs:
Buffalo is one of the few songs Tyler’s made that he hates.
Cherry Bomb and Smuckers were performed on Jimmy Kimmel. Smuckers had an alternate jazz version performed
The strings in 2Seater were recorded and made live by a famous composer for Tyler (forgot his name)
The Brown Stains got its name from Tyler and Schoolboy trying to make the name as long as possible. There is also a secret song at the end called “Special” which is on the physical versions of the album and is on Cherry Bomb + Instrumentals
Perfect has an alternate ending that in my opinion, is better than the one on the album. (This one is well known but just for the people that don’t know)
On Smuckers, Kanye had to redo his verse because he thought Tyler and Wayne killed theirs (which they did).
Okaga, CA Is Tyler’s second favorite song he’s ever made behind New Magic Wand.
Buffalo is so good tho😩

It is probably his most important album for his progression, you can hear the seeds for his future albums in some of the songs in cherry bomb

I loved your open mind towards the project. Most people don’t handle the different styles well and leave after the first listen thinking it’s trash and just focus on the bad stuff. But while yes the mixing could do some work I still have some admiration for the project, I’d best describe it as a beautiful mess.

Cherry Bomb is Tyler The Creator's most important album for his evolution as an artist. Its when he really started experimenting and breaking his own formula that he set with Bastard, Goblin, and Wolf.
As a huge Tyler fan, I remember not liking the album when it first came out. But now I love it. It fits perfectly between Wolf and Flower Boy.
This album was so ahead of its time, but I remember it getting so much hate when it came out! My favourite Tyler album.
Well it looks like he finally has the whole discography wrapped up, awesome

If you haven't checked out the CD version of this album, you absolutely should. There are many differences between the tracklisting with alternate versions of songs and extra tracks. Totally worth it in my opinion, as it's got the underated song "Yellow" as the true album finisher
Jon, love your show except for one gripe: how have you never done a single Bone Thugs reaction? One of the biggest rap groups ever and probably one of the most influential styles ever seeing as so many current artists have adopted their flows and style.

i didnt care for this album the first couple listens but its slowly becoming one of the favorite tyler records. it gets better with every listen.
Not sure which Death Grips you havent heard but a great place to start would be Bottomless Pit - i'd say it's their most refined sound and combines pretty much all sounds from their albums. After that Powers that B and Year of the Snitch would be awesome reactions.

Jon you need to watch the Cherry Bomb Documentary, the 2 Seater part is so damn cool. He is recording in Hans Zimmer's Studio
I didn’t get this at all when it came out, but in retrospect it feels foundational to so many great albums
The one word I can use to describe this album is cinematic. You just get so lost in so many tracks like pilot and Okaga, CA, and the whole story is that it’s the soundtrack for a fictional movie.
This song really shaped Tyler’s style. If it weren’t for songs like Okaga and Fucking Young/Perfect, I guarantee we would have never gotten songs like Earfquake, Gone, Gone/Thank You, and Sweet/ITYWTD. And Pilot reminds me a lot of I Think only old Tyler made it. And also not to mention how smuckers is not only one or Tyler’s best songs, but in my opinion one of the best hip hop collars to ever be made.
I love this album, super underrated. has this crazy manic energy but it also knows how to strip back and be beautiful

No no no, it wasn't like that. The album was interesting to me and I liked the ideas and vibes, which led me to getting used to the actual sounds themselves.
The second half of this album shines
A lot of people call this a necessary transition point in Tyler’s music, but in my opinion this is not only better than Flower Boy but sonically probably his most interesting album and yes a messy masterpiece. Igor is still better thematically but this album is incredibly good apart from maybe run and keep da Os

i will never understand the hate towards this album. to me, it feels as though one person said they hated it and others agreed without thoroughly listening to the album front to back. cherry bomb is one of my favorites; simply for the storytelling and transitions of Tyler being reckless (deathcamp, buffalo), then deciding he doesn’t want to “crash anymore” (pilot, find your wings), to him falling in love (blow my load, fucking /young perfect) and finally being set free and escaping earth (OKAGA, CA). it’s too good.
Nah I’m pretty sure the main thing about this album is that there’s no storyline
