@@amsyarsworld8472 Japan is far from being a Christian country. Shogunate actually destroyed it almost fully in Japan Hmm yes, it's so bad that the oligarchy was abolished and all citizens could become equal, while Imperial authority was strengthened. In feudal Japan, the real power in politics was held by the shogunate, not the emperor. This was based on the construction and authorisation that "the Emperor approves the Shogunate". Thanks to this precept, the Japanese clans also followed the Shogunate. (This is the same as the Pope's recognition of the king in medieval Europe. However, it is accurate to say that under pressure from the shogunate, the emperor reluctantly recognised his real power.) The fact that the Japanese Emperor's banner was raised by anti-Shogunate forces meant that the Imperial Court entrusted the next political management to the anti-Shogunate side. At the same time, it was also the moment when the Shogunate collapsed in its construction and authorisation that it was conducting politics with the approval of the Emperor. The clans no longer had to obey the Shogunate, which was already weakened and had lost its authority. The Japanese people also felt threatened by the British, Dutch, Spanish and American powers, and there was growing momentum to overthrow the old regime of the shogunate. This momentum also sided with the anti-Shogunate side.
The Pope did not recognise the kings in Europe, that is a huge exaggeration, and a great lack of knowledge of what Europe is. In many countries the authority of the Pope was not really as great as non-Europeans think, although the Pope did crown the emperors of the Holy Roman Empire, since Charlemagne, it was not unusual for supporters of a monarch opposed to the one appointed by the Pope to appear and oppose him and the Pope himself, as in the war of the Lombard League. The Pope was more of a religious entity, necessary for the different European states than a political legitimising element.
After a thousand years plus of samurai oppression the poor (and yes I do know it's FAR more complex than just this) finally, for a few years, got just revenge. Proving it didn't matter who your great-great-great-great grandfather was to be a soldier. After Sekigahara a disarming program(which I think in modern first world nations is sensible)made many Ashiguru poor, finding their land had been collectivised by one of a handful of huge landowners in many cases. The Ashiguru did most of the fighting for nearly a century and got nothing for it in many cases. As I have noted the above is oversimplified ,of course it is,I would need to go to the few decent(though must-thank you helion and verlag books- gladly saw more are coming out) for references,it would take hours, and really,as a proletariat,it's just a self satisfied smugness I would be ranting about so I'm happy with a "shoot the rich" whine. Even though MANY samurai were dirt poor, though they did have special birth rights. Btw....what film is footage from
Plus most officers of the new army units(which were a much mash, the best being a French trained brigade I believe)were also samurai soooo......sometimes we poor can't win. Poo in one hand, poo in the other.
It is a pity that the mass of films shows the shogunate as a backward military, although in reality they also used modern weapons, only they had less of it.
Even the last shogun, Tokugawa Yoshinobu gets that treatment as well, when in reality he was the most reform minded individual of the pro-shogunate and especially started modernizing Japan's army and navy after the French model.
