Choshu suspected of trying to use the emperor to raise themselves into powers so Aizu or someone secretly headed to see the emperor at night to warn him and tell him to kick Choshu out from being guard of one of imperial palace 9 gates. Aizu and Satsuma were issued by the shogun to send around 10k men or 5k i cant remeber to Kyoto for peace-keeping duty When they arrived they quickly set things up before the morning as Choshu will come to guard the gate every morning and then when they arrived Choshu was furious and outrages but Matsudaira Katamori lord of Aizu warned them and tell them to go back so theres no need of bloodshed infront of the emperor. Choshu eventually retreated but came back another day and decided to pick a fight, Yet Choshu got defeated badly and had to head back to their mainland in rain and rages, This is called Kimmon incident also known as Hamaguri Gomon or Hamaguri Gate Rebellion. For the excellent deed emperor awarded Aizu with a special scroll showing that Aizu is now highly trusted by the emperor(one of the greatest honor). But then emperor komei dies, Katamori drown in tears now the previously dead emperor cannot protect them anymore so Choshu and Satsuma secretly formed Satcho Alliance(convinced by infamous guy from Tosa, Sakamoto Ryoma as before this Choshu and Satsuma still hated each others) Shogunate Government is quick on this so they planned to deliver the letter to the new emperor(meiji) once again with some 15k troops accompanied by the same kyto police force from earlier, modernized shogunate troops(they have cavalry but was absent that day somehow) Aizu domain troops and their shinsengumi, kuwana clan, ogaki clan and some others Their forces was blockaded by Satsuma Choshu and Tosa force on another side of Koeda bridge at Toba-Fushimi. after sometimes of negotiation for passage Satsuma denied loud and clear then immediatly open fire with musket and artillery on shogunate forces. battle were taken place at the city , bridges and outside of it in large field. imperial forces have only 5k but heavily fortified, shogunate force however, didnt load their guns because they didnt expect a fight then the battle was going good for shogunate side at first until they got flanked and shocked upon seeing imperial force reinforcement with imperial seal banner on the second day. They was all shocked by this because they was the one that used to protect the imperial court but now the new emperor turned against them. leading shogunate force into confusion and loss of morale as nobody dared to open fire because they got warned that anybody who fire at their troops will become traitor, rebel, an enemy of imperial court While the situation is very chaotic the generals began to worries so they rushed to see shogun but he was nowhere to be found then later find out that the shogun was sailing back to Osaka(convinced by a guy name Shunai or something that convinced katamori to convince shogun) and thats the begining of downfall Sometimes later shogun himself decided to resign and shogunate force most likely to give up bc nobody have anything against the emperor in the first place Yet again however, Satsuma and Choshu force was having none of it and continued pushing up north. It was approached several times by the nascent imperial government with requests to assist in subduing Aizu. Sendai did provide some cooperation to the new government, and accepted its envoys, under Kujō Michitaka, that spring. However, Date Yoshikuni, the daimyō of Sendai, opposed the harshness shown against Aizu, saying that it was like "a sentence being passed on one who never had a trial". Despite its efforts at negotiating on behalf of Aizu, Sendai was largely cooperative with the Kyoto government for much of the spring of 1868. This came to an end in May 1868, when Sendai men discovered that the Chōshū officer Sera Shūzō (who had accompanied the imperial delegation) had written a slanderous letter indicating a desire to describe "all in the north to be enemies," and to ask for reinforcements to subdue the entire region by armed force. Naturally, the Sendai men were outraged that they too were to be punished despite their cooperation. A group of these men killed Sera, and pushed ahead with Sendai sponsorship of a northern coalition of domains. This became the Ōuetsu Reppan Dōmei.

@@SobaYatai bro stop copy and pasting this everywhere lmfao. Anyways I made a grammatically better version of this lol (I gave up btw) Boshin Wars is actually pretty much underrated if you actually looked into it. Over 50 clans have their own style of westernized army. However, many sources can’t be found on English However the sad truth behind the actual Boshin wars is quite frustrating as the shogunate government, factions and the last shogun Tokugawa Yoshinobu himself, actually have done nothing wrong so don't take simplified videos of youtube historians on late Edo Japan lore The common myth were: Shogunate government and it armed force is backward and are against the emperor to hold the power for themselves However, this is nowhere near the genuine truth. The truth is that absolutely no one was actually against the emperor. The history truly plays out this way. Choshu suspected them of trying to use the emperor to raise themselves into powers so Aizu or someone secretly headed to see the emperor at night to warn him and tell him to remove Choshu from being the guard garrisoned at the 9th palace gate. Aizu and Satsuma were issued by the shogun to send around 10,000 men to 5,000 to Kyoto for peace-keeping duty. @@SobaYataiNo one against Emperor? I hope so. But if it so, then why Aizu and Kuwana still don't give up after the court released the punishment edict? And why they were keeping anti the court army after Yoshinobu showed the submissive gesture? Why after the Edo surrounded peacefully, the battle of Ueno still broke out? Do you know how many ishin shishi were killed by Shogunate Aizu and Shinsengumi? From the accident of Black ship arriving, to coup of 18th, August, and then Anzheng suppression? And the first and the second time Choshu punishment war, and some revolt leaded by Ronin or Hanshi. Losing them were huge lost of Japan, especially in such those urge situation. Seems Shogunate and their minions can't defending the invasion from westerns but really good at how to suppress and kill their compatriots. It is from "When The Last Sword Is Drawn", a beautiful japanese movie that tells the story of two samurais of the Shinsengumi, the special police unit of the Tokugawa Shogunate at the time of the Boshin War. SPOILER ALERT IF YOU WANT TO WATCH THE MOVIE: This clip in particular is a small segment from a battle scene in the movie, where the shogunal army ambushes the Satchō army, causing the Satchō troops to retreat. The Satchō army, however, comes back with Imperial brocade banners (Nishiki no mihata), that officially made the Satchō army an Imperial army (kangun), causing the retreat of the majority of the shogunal troops, that in that moment thought were the actual rebels (the Satchō alliance was the rebel in this case, not the Tokugawa Shogunate). Almost every shogunal soldiers retreats, except some of the Shinsengumi members. Ill let you watch the rest, because what follows is a beautiful scene. This clip can be found on RUclips, and it has plenty of views, so if you want to watch it you don't have to see the full movie!

But then emperor komei dies, Katamori drown in tears
now the previously dead emperor cannot protect them anymore so Choshu and Satsuma secretly formed Satcho Alliance(convinced by infamous guy from Tosa, Sakamoto Ryoma as before this Choshu and Satsuma still hated each others)
Shogunate Government is quick on this so they planned to deliver the letter to the new emperor(meiji) once again with some 15k troops accompanied by the same kyto police force from earlier, modernized shogunate troops(they have cavalry but was absent that day somehow) Aizu domain troops and their shinsengumi, kuwana clan, ogaki clan and some others
Their forces was blockaded by Satsuma Choshu and Tosa force on another side of Koeda bridge at Toba-Fushimi. after sometimes of negotiation for passage Satsuma denied loud and clear then immediatly open fire with musket and artillery on shogunate forces. battle were taken place at the city , bridges and outside of it in large field. imperial forces have only 5k but heavily fortified, shogunate force however, didnt load their guns because they didnt expect a fight then the battle was going good for shogunate side at first until they got flanked and shocked upon seeing imperial force reinforcement with imperial seal banner on the second day. They was all shocked by this because they was the one that used to protect the imperial court but now the new emperor turned against them. leading shogunate force into confusion and loss of morale as nobody dared to open fire because they got warned that anybody who fire at their troops will become traitor, rebel, an enemy of imperial court
While the situation is very chaotic the generals began to worries so they rushed to see shogun but he was nowhere to be found then later find out that the shogun was sailing back to Osaka(convinced by a guy name Shunai or something that convinced katamori to convince shogun) and thats the begining of downfall
Sometimes later shogun himself decided to resign and shogunate force most likely to give up bc nobody have anything against the emperor in the first place
Yet again however, Satsuma and Choshu force was having none of it and continued pushing up north. Tokugawa caught sick and spend almost all his times in futon no fighting spirit and when they captured edo and Osaka the french officers sees him seem to be, quite sad
From a proud man who used to rule the world to a person thats about to be put on house arrest, the officers was pity and gave him last salute
on another side as i have said people actually did gave up long time ago. Katamori even personally wrote letters and apologized twice but it was never reach the emperor(satsuma again)
Satsuma accused him as an enemy of the court and began sieging but Aizu castle was very well fortified so they got mad and decided to bombard the shit out of Aizu instead but then Aizu finally surrendered, alots of clans was punished badly
In 1868, the Sendai Domain did not have forces active in the Battle of Toba-Fushimi; however, it did have a liaison office in Kyoto which kept track of the developing situation.

Boshin Wars is actually pretty much underrated if you actually looked into it. Over 50 clans have their own style of westernized army. However, many sources can’t be found on English
However the sad truth behind the actual Boshin wars is quite frustrating as the shogunate government, factions and the last shogun Tokugawa Yoshinobu himself, actually have done nothing wrong so don't take simplified videos of youtube historians on late Edo Japan lore
The common myth were: Shogunate government and it armed force is backward and are against the emperor to hold the power for themselves
However, this is nowhere near the genuine truth.
When they arrived they quickly set things up before the morning as Choshu would've come to guard the palace gate every morning. However, when they arrived Choshu was outrage, along with Matsudaira Katamori lord of Aizu warning them to go back so there's no need of bloodshed in front of the emperor. Choshu eventually retreated but came back another day and decided to pick a fight, Yet Choshu got defeated badly and had to head back to their mainland in rain and rages. This is called the Kimmon incident also known as Hamaguri Gomon or Hamaguri Gate Rebellion.

SPOILER ALERT IF YOU WANT TO WATCH THE MOVIE:
This clip in particular is a small segment from a battle scene in the movie, where the shogunal army ambushes the Satchō army, causing the Satchō troops to retreat.
