  • I venture off-road for an ATV Camping trip into the Cibola National Forest for an overnight in a One Tigris hot tent in the snow. I ride through some beautiful country of canyons and dense high desert terrain to a spot deep in the backcountry.

    Thanks for watching guys! I want to apologize for the heavy breathing in sections of the video. I was running up and down the hills for camera placement not giving myself a minute to catch my breath. Running near 7,000ft sure gets your breathing going quick.

    I'm from the upper pensula of Michigan, I'm retired,,so I have time to ride my old artic cat 2013 500. I enjoy your videos and ectics. I even watch your older ones , over several times .Close to the Canadian border , been up there several times. Fishing is excellent. Keep up the good work , and I'll watch for you again. Hi Charlie. That was a surprise to see how fast the trail changed into more of a trail with obstacles. I was more weary of the big ruts that might have been hidden by the snow. Some of them can swallow half a ATV lol. I am glad you enjoyed the steak dinner.

    Nice trip! You are brave to weather those temps. I saw some advice on winching up that steep area with steps. I agree with it and add this tip for anyone else reading. Standing on your quad on steep inclines is advisable as it lowers your center of gravity to where your feet are instead of the seat. Much less likely to wheelie on a steep grade, especially with large bumps/steps. I am sure the camera doesn't do it justice, so I am not judging. Thanks for sharing these great trips!

      Hey buddy, thanks for the tip on what you have saw. Being by myself I was overly cautious just because of the risk I put myself in. So any tips are appreciated. Cool new intro! - - -
    Best way to do that winch climb at the 11:30 mark is to get on the machine and feed the throttle ever-so-slightly while pulling in the winch line. The winch line will stop the quad from flipping backwards and you're not exposed to injury from the machine possibly jumping sideways on you. It would be a painful ride out with a broken tibia ;>) - - -
    15:20 - DANG, those are big jalapeno peppers! We get the tiny little ones up here. I'd love to get my hands on some of those! - - -
    21:00 - I hear ya brother! Absolutely agree! - - -
    23:35 - scary! - - -
    Looked like an awesome adventure buddy! Thanx for taking us along!

    • @ManzanoManATVAdventures
      @ManzanoManATVAdventures  2 года назад +1

      I agree buddy. If you are going to winch, do it right to keep things from happening. A little throttle and winching takes longer, but you can prevent injury also. That would have been a super long walk out and impossible having to go up and down through the canyon.
      These jalapenos come from Texas, I guess that's why the have the name everything is bigger in TX lol. They were huge! But I love the way everything taste when your outdoors. I can't explain it, it's just better. Man that stall freaked me out lol. Since I run solo, I hope I never have to walk out. I am usually a half days walk or more from help. But a detail plan and coordinates to my wife and an expected time of when she can hear from me should help if that ever happens.
      Thanks for watching buddy. I hope all is well. Enjoy the weekend!

      Nice job on the video work, looks like you had a great time. Yes everything tastes better in the outdoors!
      If I can offer you 1 important tip.....always let your atv warm up for 3-5 mins after starting because you never know if you'll get a second chance!
      It gets the lubrication going and can offer the battery a little charge even at low rpm.
      If it's really cold use some heated rocks or coals under the skid plates for 10-15 mins before trying to start. I ride solo sometimes 40 miles from the nearest pavement so no chance for errors. Be safe!
      Cheers

      I was playing it over cautious in those areas. Funny thing is it hardly looked like anything on the camera haha, which I am sure you know what I mean since you film also. But being by myself I rather take it slow than have a costly mistake. Oh man, it was super cold once I packed up the tent! On my way home the mountain area did get more snow, I happened to be there as it was moving in which is why I felt a big temp change. The burrito is a premade burrito that come frozen. I just let it unthaw wrapped it in foil and bam, hot food lol. Thanks for watching bud. Enjoy the upcoming weekend.

    I’ve been meaning to ask that aren’t you ever nervous on going alone on a such a long trips off road. But yeah, be carefull, don’t take extra changes, if in doubt park and check the terrain by foot, winch to control climbing to nasty hills. And obviously keep you machine serviced. Greetings from Finland to ManzanoMan - I’m also Can-Am 570 owner.

    • @ManzanoManATVAdventures

      I do wonder from time to time if something will ever happen mechanically when I am offroad. It is something that I hope will never happen. But I try to catch and avoid this by servicing my ATV. You are right that by checking the terrain by foot helps you out by looking for the easiest path to take. The Can-Am is a nice machine. I am looking forward to getting mine back from the shop. Take care and thanks for watching.

    Very nice ride out to the camping spot , some sketchy areas, but you planned it out and made out well…need to do that when a fella is alone . Love the snow in the low country still amazes this Canadian ! But that’s the type of cold we get.
    Did you get the can am all back and running ? Is the Polaris carb set up or just really didn’t like the cold?
    As always enjoy your videos.

    • @ManzanoManATVAdventures
      @ManzanoManATVAdventures  2 года назад +1

      I may have over exaggerated the trail where I planned it out, but in this section I was highly concerned for unseen washed out trenches like the one I drove by. Not seeing one of those due to snow covering it and driving into it would dang near swallow half your machine. But when alone, play it wise and that would be my advice to anyone.
      The snow in this neck of the woods is super awesome against the varied terrain. It does happen in New Mexico where artic cold hits and it all has to do with the average elevation we are at. I was at 6800ft, so can you imagine how cold it is in some of our 10000ft mountains? Brutal cold! Some of those high peaks will have snow in July on it still.
      I should get the Can-Am this week. The shop was down a tech so it took longer to get to my machine. The Polaris just didn't like the cold for some reason. But once she was warmed up she ran good. Thanks for watching buddy!

    Hey buddy! Nice job getting around those washouts!
    Man, what a meal! That's a big T bone!
    How often do you have to feed your stove to keep it going in your tent sir?
    Yeah, when it's cold it's always a good idea to let the machine idle for a bit and get up to temp.
    Great riding sir!

    • @ManzanoManATVAdventures
      @ManzanoManATVAdventures  2 года назад +1

      Those washouts had me concerned more than anything else. All I needed was to not see one and fall right into one lol. So I treaded with extra caution through this section of trail. I added wood every 45 minutes or so while it is going. But in the peak part of the night I let it burn out and rely on my sleeping gear for the cold. The funny thing is I had warmed it up once that morning off camera. I didn't think it was going to do that again lol. But it was pretty cold so it ended up happening again haha.

    Have to love that New Mexico winter scenery. I almost feel bad for the people who think we're brown year round. I bet that was the warmest 59 degrees you've ever felt! Also, I agree, there's not much better than a fresh-brewed cup of REAL coffee (not the freeze-dried stuff, though it has its place) on the morning of a camping trip.

      New Mexico scenery in the snow is seriously beautiful! I think the combination of distant views, canyons, mountains, and in certain locations the desert landscape make this state some of the most photo worthy in all the lower 48 states. Looks like an amazing trip!! Good idea using the wench to get your atv up those stairs. That was much safer. Using good judgment when you're are in the backcountry solo is a must. That dinner sure looked delicious. You make some tasty looking food out in the backcountry. Snow camping is sooooo much fun. You got me really wanting to give hot tent camping a try. Great camera work buddy. Your videos just keep getting better and better! I watched this one twice already 🤙

      I do enjoy a challenge on trail, I try to avoid some of the more challenging areas of NM since I am a soloist. All I need is an accident to happen. Even this trail threw a surprise at me due to the washout areas from monsoon season. I so enjoyed that dinner lol. It's been over a year since I have had a T-Bone steak. Hot Tent camping is fun. You can sure use it in AZ in the higher elevations or even lower elevations. A lot of people don't know, but the desert can get cold in winter.
      Man, since we are state neighbors, one of these years we will have to meet and ride bud. I've been wanting to explore AZ because its so much like NM. I appreciate you watching. Have a great weekend! Take care.

    Thanks for another great video! What a beautiful area. Tough little cactus up there! That's a nice setup you have with the stove in the tent. At over 7,000 feet in the winter, you are pretty amazing! Do you feel the quads perform differently at higher elevations?

    • @ManzanoManATVAdventures
      @ManzanoManATVAdventures  2 года назад

      It always amazes me to see cactus at this elevation, especially in the snow since cactus is associated with warm/hot weather. Where I was camped at is right on the edge of the Chihuahuan Desert. But the elevation is what makes it cold through winter, but then it's hot in summer. I can't say that I feel a difference riding in higher altitude and the highest I have rode is above 11,000ft. But my breathing on the other hand is impacted. I tend to breath heavy at times and primarily when I am moving around a lot. Thanks for watching buddy. Take care and have a great weekend!

    Hey Ruben. Just got my Can Am 650 the end of January. I do a lot of riding in Rio Rancho westside. Trails for miles. We should meet up and ride out there. When it gets warmer, I'll be exploring 103 up by Tea Kettle rock.

      Nice man, I was looking at the Can Am 650 before I went with the 570. Now I look back and kinda wish I went with the 650. The trails are sweet out there by Rio Rancho. I think that would be cool to pair up and ride. I’ve never explored that northwestern side of Jemez up by 103. It’s been in my plans to do it and to stop by Tea Kettle rock. We should do it when it gets warmer.

    Sweet video as always, im looking for a new tent and I like the floorless designs but would you substitute that for the marmot in the summer/fall as you had the bug screens in the tigris? Or strictly used it because it has the stove inside….any insight would be cool……i would be mostly summer fall use

    • @ManzanoManATVAdventures
      @ManzanoManATVAdventures  2 года назад

      I use this tent primarily in the wintertime because of the woodstove. Although it is designed to be used year-round because the stove opening in the tent can close up with a flap built into the tent. I would most likely use the inner floor if I took this camping in the summer or fall just for the critters that crawl around. That would be my thought. But I think it depends on how comfortable you are sleeping on the ground with no inner mesh/bug screen. Thanks for watching!

    These quads are based on Toyota 1500cc petrol tyres are typically 1250cm x 6-700cm wide. An you sit about 6 ft off the ground, they also paddle across rivers an lakes, carry upto 1000lbs of gear 30 let fuel tanks.

      Hey there! It really is some beautiful country! I hope it does show a process on how I think things out when navigating a changing trail system. Taking a minute to look around can save you a repair or getting hurt.
      I do remember you talking about the machine you just mentioned. That sounds like a beast of a quad. 6ft tall and the ability to paddle across rivers sounds very cool. I'd love to ride in that!
