The year I moved to Oregon was the year that the SF Bay area family got stranded after they took a shortcut over the mountain. He died of hypothermia trying to walk out to get help. Later that year, a family in a class A motorhome got stranded for a month when they set out to winter camp. An elderly couple died in a storm when they accidentally drove onto a seasonal road, hit a drift and couldn't open their doors to get out. Freezing to death is hella painful. The stories are endless of people who don't respect winter in Oregon and go up the mountain unprepared. Never use hot water to unfreeze your door locks. Two days worth of food and water? Wasting propane for a camp fire? You are lucky you made it out at all. Please know what you're doing next time. And thank God for your sensible mom, the hero of this story.
@@isaacturnerit when you go camping in the wilderness in a snowstorm overnight, you should have FIVE days of food and water with you! Also, Don't waste your drinking water on washing the dishes. Melt snow and use that. Oh, and when you step outside, Shut the door!!!! Spare keys,..........you should have an inside pocket sewn into the inside of your underwear, and keep your spare keys in there. That way if they fall out, (which they shouldn't if you make the pocket right), they'll be in your pants or your boots. @akroll008 is correct. You should NEVER use hot water to thaw your doors! Your windows could have shattered! I'm actually surprised they didn't. There are many things on the market you can buy at any camping store, that will do the trick better, that you should keep INside your camper, along with your hand-warmers, and your truck snowbrush. I don't understand why you used your hands and a putty knife to wipe off the truck when you should have simply used your snowbrush? EVERYone has a snowbrush for their vehicles, where it snows. Winter survival is a must. I live in the north east. I learned at a very young age on seasonal survival. Now I am teaching my son. Power failures, stuck in any kind of storm, cooking survival, starting a fire in an emergency situation. Ther are many RUclips videos on it. Please becareful and for future bad weather issues, stock up on propane, batteries just in case, watch the weather carefully and charge up all that needs charging. And stick up on non perishable foods for power failures. Also be sure to have extra heavy blankets for weather like this both in the camper and at home. Glad the family is safe. Take care.
Shaking my head! What did we learn? Don’t leave the family during a winter storm warning, what if your water pipes froze and burst? Don’t go where you can’t leave to get back home because that heater is not reliable! Lay a tarp over the cab to prevent frozen doors! Letting snow pile up with the top up is just asking for several problems. Find a way to clear the snow off the top as to not fall on cars behind you and endanger families traveling behind you and risk snow sliding onto your windshield! I was waiting for your truck not to start! So many things could have gone really wrong here, just for a video. Great teaching video for your audience on what not to do try. Try and stay a little safer!
He wants extreme content for views lol. Same as him saying " can't hardly see @ 4:13 " and it's clear in front of him. He heightened situations for gain.
A few tips: when starting out with new equipment it’s always worth it to try it all out close to home. Spend the night in your own driveway or backyard, or within a few minutes travel. That way if something catastrophic fails with your gear you can get home safely. It lets you catalogue things you may need to plan in future travels (like a shovel to get snow off the roof & dig out tires, a can opener, tarp to cover the door/windshield to keep it from freezing shut, knowing not to keep vital items in a cab you may not be able to get to easily , access doors for propane and gear may freeze shut, etc.). I’d suggest whenever you get out of your rig and the heater is on, close the door! Don’t leave the cabin door open while you’re gathering gear or taking pictures. It’s making your heater work even harder, burning through propane faster, and losing all the heat you could’ve retained inside. It looks like you were opening that can with some kind of utility folding knife, such as a Swiss army knife. I can almost guarantee there is a can opener on that knife. Before your next trip look up how to use a SAK to open a can . I admire you for trying new things but please please do a little more to prepare in order to make you safe out there!

Ive watched this three times .its was intense i sat watching it like a life time movie eating popcorn. It reminded me of a life time movie id seen once . A family got stranded in a snow storm , and the father took off walkng for help and the mother ate snow to stay hydrated enough to nurse her baby. Boy you cant be scaring folks like that. Was a great video though teaches some great life lessons . Lol see what ya did there your problems helped educate others .
Think I saw that film you're talking about a long time ago. Was he a young soldier? He left her in a cave to go get help. They did det rescued with frost bite.
I enjoyed this episode cause everything kept going wrong! When you called your friend and he couldn’t get to you my heart sank and your face said it all. Thanks for sharing your journey even the bad parts!
I watched a video with the same camper. the woman kept the tent part down when she went to bed. It was a smaller space to heat up and not as much heat loss throught the tent area.
Funny story when you ask Google how to open a frozen door mind answered you and the last thing they said do not put boiling water on door LOL but once again you achieved it and you got home to your girls And the drone shots were amazing😊
why would you leave your family knowing a snow storm might come and what camper doesnt have a can opener and spare keys just show up not buying any of this
If I were you, I would have a dustpan and brush by the door open the door to get in and only sweep the sill, close the door quickly and then sweep the rest of the snow with the door shut so that the heat stays in and the heater doesn't have to work so hard. You can crack it open to throw the rest of the snow outside.
Isaac.. when ever we'd use our camper I d turn the propane on then go to the stove and turn a burner on and then lite it. That would "load" your lines.
A quicker way to purge your LP lines of air is to run your stove for a bit. Maybe make some water for a coffee/cocoa, that will give the lines plenty of time to properly pressurize.
Whoaaaaa!!! Beautiful scenery, but way scary situation. Great trial run on the camper. They make a spray that you can spray on the locks, so they won't freeze. I would get a quilted cover for the windshield and drivers side door. Put an old hand crank opener in there and leave it in there. Maybe you need a survival kit in case you really do get stuck. Oh and you owe your Mom and Pop a dinner out for being awesome! Y'all are sure on a discovery mission this year with a new house and new camper. You will get it, experience is the best teacher there is.
Make sure to put the hide a key back for the next time you need it. Lesson learned.. put hide a key on Embers car so when she calls you someday you can help her. Lol. Hope you all got you electric back on and are staying safe.
Bro that was just a crazy video....lol...glad you got home.. Maybe in future videos you can go over your wheels and tires ..tire size wheel size. Maybe suspension..
Young man, I am glad that you are safe. I was just wondering why you would go out into a snowstorm, knowing that you had prior issues with the heating system in your truck camper? Lesson learned for the future.
My doors freeze every time I get my truck washed. I just use brute strength..if that don’t work I give it a good shoulder slam! Probably be good if I dry the doors good, lol!
Thanks much Isaac. Early morning here and necessary vanlifer chores for me, so only just watched. Painful to watch! ❄🥶❄😱 Brave you! Maybe you need a mini blowtorch on hand for future frozen doors and locks and windscreens. PS, I learned that pushing on doors like that can leave indentations, so when I have slider issues now, I am extra gentle! Dent sorted 😊 Awesome videography and drone footage you got was really great Isaac. You definitely deserved a hot spring, or soak in a nice warm bath after that little content adventure!! What you go through!! ⛏🧣🧤🔥 🤞No future heating issues🤞AND remember, add not only one, but TWO can openers to your camper stash. ⚠️ And, hide another truck key in magnetic holder on underside. That, had to have been scary. Plus, a collapsible large bowl or two will always come in handy, for washing or whatever. Store so easily.💜💜💜

I'm curious, lol, who's flying the drone while you drive, those are some awesome views you are sharing with us, thank you! So I wrote this before I watched the whole video, wow, you had a rough time of it and now going home to more issues. I'm so glad you made it home safe and that you are there for the girls.
Magnet, Buddy Heater, metal detector, chains, shovel, tow strap, Garmin inReach, enough warm gear to survive without heat. Just saying. Oh! And a pillow.
I have dyscalculia. It is a neurological issue that causes me to get lost going around the block. I can't be in these situations because I know it can be fatal for me. I got lost at a national park, at night. I really believed I was in dire trouble without cell service. Luckily I was not alone. They had offline GPS and came back for me. Some of us don't belong out there. Please entertain the idea that this may also apply to you.
Nice that you are doing RUclipss and you have the filming down. The camping part as far as being prepared needs a lot of work. You are learning the hard way but you will get there.

Learned a lot on this trip! Also why I was solo!
You are fkin annoying, seriously
I have a new 2023 Sanctuary Transit with the Truma heater. 3 nights... not in a row, the heater tripped off and I woke up to 30 something degrees inside. For context, I am new to this and am 55 in Alabama and am not used to this kind of cold. Needless to say, I am staying in the house while we are in the single digits tonight. I am grateful for your channel and Jaylena's! Y'all have helped me learn many things I needed to know to begin to spend time on the road as a part-timer. So proud of you and your little family!
Dang! Thanks for watching and commenting
Excellent content Isaac!!!
Thanks yo
🫣 glad you made it out safely, the footage was beautiful! 🌬️🌨️🥶
Mom and dad are awesome 😇😇 always looking out for their babies.
Hopefully you got power back today; lots of projects for the spring.
🙏🏻 💜💙💜
Thanks for watching
Great video! Loved the drone footage! ❤
Thanks for watching
Life is a adventurer .live it .
Def!
Wow what a trip 🥶.!! Thank God for Low 4 wheel ! Glad you made it home !! ❤
Thank you for watching
Ive watched this three times .its was intense i sat watching it like a life time movie eating popcorn. It reminded me of a life time movie id seen once . A family got stranded in a snow storm , and the father took off walkng for help and the mother ate snow to stay hydrated enough to nurse her baby. Boy you cant be scaring folks like that. Was a great video though teaches some great life lessons . Lol see what ya did there your problems helped educate others .
I watched that movie too. It was a real story. Can’t remember the name though. Found it it was called Stranded.
Slides like a scary movie! Thank you for watching
@@isaacturnerit it wasn't scary . It was based on a real life story. I'm just so happy you made it home to your ladies, safely.
Think I saw that film you're talking about a long time ago. Was he a young soldier? He left her in a cave to go get help. They did det rescued with frost bite.
So good❤
Thank you
Lol @ leaving your baby+mama at home during a snow storm
Booo
Totally unprepared.Good video on what not to do when venturing out on a winter camping trip.
Glad you found a key i hope you put a spare back so you don't get yourself stuck again, check for keys when parking up.
One Hundo
I enjoyed this episode cause everything kept going wrong! When you called your friend and he couldn’t get to you my heart sank and your face said it all. Thanks for sharing your journey even the bad parts!
Thank you so much for watching
OMG!! Isaac!! What an Adventure!! 😮🤦♀️👍
Thanks for watching!
Bottom line I’m glad you made it home safely..
What a video 🙏🏻💓
~🤍
Thank you!
Beautiful views and happy you are home.
Thanks for watching
I watched a video with the same camper. the woman kept the tent part down when she went to bed. It was a smaller space to heat up and not as much heat loss throught the tent area.
Really!! What channel? I’d like to watch it
Funny story when you ask Google how to open a frozen door mind answered you and the last thing they said do not put boiling water on door LOL but once again you achieved it and you got home to your girls And the drone shots were amazing😊
Used warm water!! Thanks for watching!
I believe you did the right thing by bringing a cold 🍕,I don't care who anyone is cold 🍕 and cold fried chicken is the way to go(live 😊)
Ha ha always
Glad you got the truck started and you got home safe
Def!
Thought I was watching a spoof video. I don’t know how you’ve survived this long.
I feel you
why would you leave your family knowing a snow storm might come and what camper doesnt have a can opener and spare keys just show up not buying any of this
lol didn’t know till it happened
If I were you, I would have a dustpan and brush by the door open the door to get in and only sweep the sill, close the door quickly and then sweep the rest of the snow with the door shut so that the heat stays in and the heater doesn't have to work so hard. You can crack it open to throw the rest of the snow outside.
I agree on all this!
Wow!!! It’s too much for me!!! Cold!!!❤
Cold!
@@isaacturnerit , yes!! Too cold for my blood. lol!!
I am amazed that you are alive. Being a shovel!
Fosho
Ooh my…don’t think I like winter ❄️ 🥶 camping!! Thank God JD & Mom put hide a key 🔑 🙏👏🤣 get home to your girls 😉🫶✌️
Ha ha ha I feel it
Toyota's are great in the snow!!! The only vehicle I will ever own! Great all the way around.
Honestly it was surprising how good it was!
Dude, what a rough time. I'm glad you're ok.
Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for watching
Isaac,Isaac Isaac. Thank goodness you made it home.
Thank you for watching
Isaac.. when ever we'd use our camper I d turn the propane on then go to the stove and turn a burner on and then lite it. That would "load" your lines.
Got ya
Mate, the first tool I was given as a camper was a FREAKEN CAN OPENER!!!
Enjoyed your video, learned a lot to repair yourself for the worst .
Fosho
Stay safe and your truck does amazing in this depth of snow. Thank for the share...🤗 Your camper is nice.
The truck slaaayyyeed
A quicker way to purge your LP lines of air is to run your stove for a bit. Maybe make some water for a coffee/cocoa, that will give the lines plenty of time to properly pressurize.
Got ya!!! Thanks for the tip!!!!
Wow what an experience son, your a real survivor!!!
Thanks dad!
Def need that spray! Thanks so much for watching and the tips!
There's a house behind you can't be that bad!
True
Outstanding !!! The video intro was on fire.
Thanks yoooo
Omg! Someone send that man a can opener!!🤣😂
I agree!!
Make sure to put the hide a key back for the next time you need it. Lesson learned.. put hide a key on Embers car so when she calls you someday you can help her. Lol. Hope you all got you electric back on and are staying safe.
Def doing that!
Bro that was just a crazy video....lol...glad you got home.. Maybe in future videos you can go over your wheels and tires ..tire size wheel size. Maybe suspension..
Thanks homie! Yeah I will
I learned so much from this vid good job!
Ha ha thanks for watching
Young man, I am glad that you are safe. I was just wondering why you would go out into a snowstorm, knowing that you had prior issues with the heating system in your truck camper? Lesson learned for the future.
I thought it was fixed
Looks very dangerous to me
It was
Dang! It's pretty incredible. 😊 sure is beautiful. The snow on the trees is just georgous. I'm glad u were able to get out.
Thanks yo. Appreciate you watching
Please stay safe and be careful getting out and going back home.
Back home now
My doors freeze every time I get my truck washed. I just use brute strength..if that don’t work I give it a good shoulder slam! Probably be good if I dry the doors good, lol!
Very nice and capable rig combination. You did good.
Thanks for watching
Putt W40 all around the doors windows 🔒 locks on your truck and camper😊 so they won't freeze 😊
Great tip!
Maybe the 1 of 2 things WD40 is good for.
Isaac!!!! THIS IS STRESSING ME OUT!!!! Please be safe. What is the desire to go out in a heavy storm in the middle of nowhere?!!! 😮😮😮😮😮
Thanks for watching. I am home now
Thanks much Isaac. ⛏🧣🧤🔥
🤞No future heating issues🤞AND remember, add not only one, but TWO can openers to your camper stash. ⚠️ And, hide another truck key in magnetic holder on underside. That, had to have been scary.
Plus, a collapsible large bowl or two will always come in handy, for washing or whatever. Store so easily.💜💜💜
Def need a magic stash! Thanks so much for watching!
@@isaacturnerit excuse my little list of future possible necessities. The concerned Mum in me, popping it's head out 😃💌🤗
@@lesleyhughes3174 oh def gonna get some gear
Omg Isaac that was stressful to watch 😮
My bad 💗
You may be slightly out of your mind, Mr Turner. 😂 But …. Fun video, beautiful scenery, and interesting learning…. since it had a happy ending. Also glad the girls were so resourceful there at the homestead. ✌️❤️☃️
Thanks for watching yo!
Oh dang! Well, I'm glad you got out of there without anyone having to come up there. 👍
💗💗thanks for watching
I spent December in Troutdale, Oregon. The cold is no joke. I now know how to keep myself and my pupper warm, but it is not easy. I totally admire your sense of adventure and that you film all of it, so that I can live vicariously through your trips. Be safe, amigo! ❤❤❤
Ha ha hello! How did you stay warm in the element?
@@isaacturnerit I left before it got totally unbearable & I stayed at my sister's house. The wind that whips off that Columbia River is no joke!
@@heatherthenomad3 ahhh got ya I always wondered how the heater less make it in this cold
So glad h made it home to your family.
Thanks yo
I'm curious, lol, who's flying the drone while you drive, those are some awesome views you are sharing with us, thank you! So I wrote this before I watched the whole video, wow, you had a rough time of it and now going home to more issues. I'm so glad you made it home safe and that you are there for the girls.
lol I’m a one man crew
I'm just guessing that there's a setting for focusing onto a moving object or person so that it kind of focuses on that!
A little metal shavings in the beans ain't gonna hurt nobody..lol..nice work mate !!
Ha ha aha ha thanks for watching
If it gets too cold to withstand, do you suppose the people in the cabin next door will invite you inside to get warm? 😉😁
Ha ha prolly
Fragrant free baby Wipes are great to great to do dishes.
Wow! Noted
Magnet, Buddy Heater, metal detector, chains, shovel, tow strap, Garmin inReach, enough warm gear to survive without heat. Just saying. Oh! And a pillow.
Fosho
A tip my friend next time cooking, you cook in the pan eat out of the pan(no plates)
Fosho great tip
I can't believe you went winter camping and didn't take cans of deicer with you to spray your locks, etc.
Fosho
Need to send this boy back to camping school 101.
So true!
So glad there was a spare key!!
🔑😆❤️🙏
Your honesty is one of your very best qualities!! Beautiful footage!
Ha ha ha ha thanks for watching
I have dyscalculia. It is a neurological issue that causes me to get lost going around the block. I can't be in these situations because I know it can be fatal for me. I got lost at a national park, at night. I really believed I was in dire trouble without cell service. Luckily I was not alone. They had offline GPS and came back for me. Some of us don't belong out there. Please entertain the idea that this may also apply to you.
Got you. Thank you for input on this.
Why are you out there and you crazy man what drove you to do this?
Have to pay the bills
Earned my sub. People make mistakes. Going to be great watching your progress and how much you learn over the next few winters! Awesome!
Hey thanks man! Appreciate that
Nice that you are doing RUclipss and you have the filming down. The camping part as far as being prepared needs a lot of work. You are learning the hard way but you will get there.
