I own a D2. The battery life is amazing. I charge it maybe once a week and I am a very heavy user of it. The interface is good. The screen is very nice and bright. I built a case for it out of a mint tin. It fit in there perfectly after a couple adjustments. No screen is 100% scratch proof. If it is in your price range I don't think you will regret buying one.
The reviewer didn't even mention the sound quaility, which in my opinion is the best thing about the D2. This has a greater power output than any other mp3 player I've ever tried. This should be the chief selling point for a portable media player IMO.
This video was amazing ! wanted to thank you for making it - I bought this player partly on this recommendation and it lived up to your billing. it still compares pretty favorably a year and a half later, another plus, the price of an 8gb SD card is now 10 dollars, down from 80 at the time of this video's post. cheers
Thanks a ton for your video. I bought my D2 a few days ago and it is indeed amazing. The thing I like best about it is probably the total customizability of the buttons, background, everything on the screen. I can change up how my player looks as often as I want and however I want to. I'm also pretty addicted to flicking around on the touchscreen... I weave through my folders aimlessly a lot while listening to music, hehe.
I have one of these. I have had it for almost 2 years. I did steady research for 4 days. Looked at Ipods etc. This did everything I want with easy software updates (the software can be buggy). But overall works great. It sounds AWESOME and has tons of features to maximize audio/video. I bought a screen protector and a rubberized jacket for it. Its very small, rugged and feels of quality. Battery life is incredible. This is for the gadget guy. Lots of features with a lot of potential.BUY ONE
I"m getting the D2+ in a month. All i want is excellent audio quality & this certainly qualifies as one of the BEST if not THE best out there right now. I also have all my music encoded in flac & this is one of the very few players that support flac. If you're looking for mainly audio quality then this is your best bet from your choices? Either the D2 or the D2+ will do the job.
1. it can 2. only if you add them to DPL (dynamic playlist) which is limited to 255 tracks :-( 3. yes. the eq is very customisable. you can even set the bandwith of the individual eq bands. i recommend it to you. it's one of the best mp3 players you can get.
That's what the SD memory cards are for. You can add an additional 2 to 8 GB to it. This unit is vastly superior in every way to other mp3 players I've owned, including the ipod nano.
Didn't even mention the custom firmware support and the OUTSTANDING audio quality the cowon has. Still a good review, but i feel the audio part is essential.
Very good review! Your voice was not annoying and you answered my questions and showed how the interface works very nicley. Does it come with a screen protector? Is there anywhere to store the stylus thats not a kickstand position? Can you make playlists similar to creative's "currently selected" list, or is it more like the iPod's On the go playlists?
This video is very helpful. I just got one of these yesterday. A lot of what is covered here is NOT in the manual or included PDF file. One of the things not mentioned in this video is the difficulty using playlist. Definitely NOT intuitive. Maybe there's other features related to this not covered in the manual. If you feel like making another video on this product please cover that.
I just spoke to Cowon and they say it will support 32 GB sd card, however it will only support 500 folders and 5000 files, so as long as files are large i.e Flac or movies it will work great.
Excellent review. I have been a fan of Cowon MP3 products for a long time. Now I'm looking for a player with larger screen for video. This looks like my next purchase. I was toying with the idea of getting that black Friday $99 special on that 30 gig turd brown Zune. They were sold out everywhere. Glad in a way that I couldn't get one. Think I will like the D2 better. Cowon sound quality is a given.
Thank you very much for the revew!! You nearly convinced me to get it! I'm between the Meizu M6 ( much simpler) or this supertronic machine!! Good Work and thanx again!
im planning to get the d2 whn i have enuff cash......this review kinda made me even more motivated 2 get this player.....i kno it is THE bomb rite now, blows all the competiton away.....nice review.....but i thnk u missed one the d2's main feature...it video prowess on its 16 million colour screen and its compatability with many vid formats.
A GREAT VIDEO!!!! answers many of my burning questions and the like. I do wish that cowon issues a free case, like Apple and several other players do. I love the Cowon D2, and i can't wait to get mine!
one more note on the archos 7 you can get it with different sizes of hard drives as well i have the 320GB hard drive. it also has i GB of internal memory. the one i have won't fit in your pocket but for what it does and the high def it is worth it to me. the smaller version of the archos will fit in your pocket and they have a bigger version thatn the archos 7.
you did not mention the d2's flash player. nice review, just right. except for the boot up time. mine took 5 secs on start up with 16% of flash memory usage... not bad anyway. thanks. got 1 this afternoon. very nice UI. sounds awesome m8
Your good man you should be reviewing other products too, I just have two questions wich video formats does it support, and does it have an auto-fit option ( so the video get's adjusted to the screen resolution)
if you want to up the stakes then try the archos 7 internet media device. it does all this and much much more including high def and ripping and recording from tv or other devices, plays games and uses any flash type games and many plugins. it has wifi and works great on the internet and offer regular radio but also offer internet radio and internet tv. it is awesome! so if you want to move on up to a more functional device try the archos 7
btw: I hope Cowon will come up with a new firmware, that will allow you to use notepad without having to turn off the music..that really SUCKS, perhaps the only thing that sucks about this device
I found your video very helpful. I see you posted this video about 17 months ago. Do you still stand by your comments today that this is the best flash player on the market. Was thinking of getting one, but wanted to make sure there are not any changes in your view over time with newer models out today.
dom ive been using Cowon players....since past 2.5 years...XL5 first then... 2nd player which i switched to is again a cowon one...iAudio 7 and trust me it beats any player hands down....as far as ease of use and quality is concerned. wish it cud luk like an iPOD
The cheapest and the safest place to buy a Cowon D2 and many other electronics is Newegg(search on google) That is where i got my cowon d2 I got my white 4gb for around $185 + $6 3day shipping.
Some questions: 1. Can it play playlists? 2. Can it play the content of the internal memory together with the content on the SD card? (one time I had a creative Zen player, it could only play content from one place) 3. Does it have a user custom EQ? thanks to anyone who answers
this is actually not a good mp3 player, it has alot of great features, one of my favorite is the radio recording. but it a pain sometimes, the screen is way to small, and if you have big fingers it can be hard to touch one button at a time. i returned my d2 and preordered a ipod touch, i will have a review up for that soon.
WOW! This player rocks! I own an iAudio a7 but I want to watch movies, which is kind of a drag on the a7's small screen :(. BUT THIS IS MADNESS!!! I'm gonna buy this little wonder in no time. WOAHAAHhaaaaaa!!
I use it while going out running 6 days a week. Is that lock function and custom button setting too hard to figure out? Or is it the 30 seconds you may have to spend scanning through the manual the main problem? I take it the review...............if you watched it..................didn't help at all? Contact me and I'll try to respond to any questions I can answer that you may need help with. Cowon MP3 units seem to have more features then your average Ipod.
Brilliant review! Told me everything that I wanted to know, even to the simplest thing of being able to change tracks without looking. I've been looking around for a new mp3/pmp and i think, if my money's long enough, I've found the one for me. None of the problems (Ie: short battery life, little memory) that the samsung p2 or the archos equivalent. Thanks. One question though, to anyone with experience with it, can you make a playlist on the go? cheers.
Hey, thanks for the great review, well done w/ loads of info, i went an bought myself a D2 and am very happy w/ it, but i have a couple of questions, mine does not have the NOTEPAD feature, where do i find this? do i have to download this from the cowon website? Please help. Thanks
sounds great with my pioneer se-mj2 & sennheizer hd 202. but do not exceed the volume to 40. argh! btw, 5***** for battery life! i recharge it once a week.
Great rewiev, but you have not mentioned one importatnt thing about D2, it has built-in Flash Player, and you can actually play Flash games on it. Yes, not all of them work properly, but there are hunderts of them, that work just great, South C. websites give many of them for download...And I think that is just really sweet, for a PMP player to be able to process all Flash games...chess, and minesweeper, tetris....just whatever you want
IF it is touchscreen then it should be able to support a lot more video formats than just one..If it's touch screen then it's supposed to be top notch, up to date and yet it only supports one video format? come on!
Awk ffs, I was clicking random on Wikipedia came across this and thought I had found myself a wee hidden gem lol it definitely reads better than it is I'm real life lol
Wouldn't it be cheaper to buy the D2 on the Dell Canada website for Canadians? (because less shipping charges, i guess?) Anyway. Thanks for that review! I was sure that I was going to buy an iRiver clix 2, and now I'm thinking about buying a D2! XD
lol. I miss these earlier YT videos. Happy to see this one is still here.

8gb sd card for 80 dollars.... times have changed
The reviewer didn't even mention the sound quaility, which in my opinion is the best thing about the D2. This has a greater power output than any other mp3 player I've ever tried. This should be the chief selling point for a portable media player IMO.

Been 16 years, but my D2 is still holding strong. 😍

Me too. I'm getting the D2+ since all my music is encoded in flac like you & all i want is excellent audio quality. This certainly fits the bill.

Thanks for the informative review. You resolved a lot of questions I had which were stopping me from buying this interesting little player.
Great review! I got a couple questions.
1) Can you create playlists? (Either on the D2 or through computer)
2) Can you play games on it?
Nice review. Been looking for a digital music play for my car, but I use mostly FLAC files. This player looks like the best in the market. Great job.

no. even the tv out cable is optional. this thing sounds awesome. and the battery life is great. i used it daily & recharge it once in a week.
Same, just wait a couple weeks and the price should drop. The D3 is coming out in 6-12 months.
Playlists are a nightmare to make and you can only have one "on the go" playlist
Yeah, I was set on this before but thanks for the review, 'twas really great.
Thank you for making a well put together informative review. I'm ordering mine Monday :) Can't wait

Fantastic Job. Would love to see you demonstrate listening to audio books with variable speed options.
I used to own a D2 and an A2. They were amazing gadgets!
I just ordered my D2 yesterday (my Zune broke... :
I just spoke to Cowon and they say it will support 32 GB sd card, however it will only support 500 folders and 5000 files, so as long as files are large i.e Flac or movies it will work great.
This was the feature that impressed me most too. I'm really lookking forward to playing some flash game favorites on the go.
I really don't care that this is an obvious commercial.. I'm sick and tired of my old ragged iPod Nano and I think this will make a great purchase
Excellent review. I have been a fan of Cowon MP3 products for a long time. Now I'm looking for a player with larger screen for video. This looks like my next purchase. Thank you very much for the revew!! You nearly convinced me to get it! I'm between the Meizu M6 ( much simpler) or this supertronic machine!!
Good Work and thanx again!
Great review. I've been considering a D2 and I just love what I'm seeing.
im planning to get the d2 whn i have enuff cash......this review kinda made me even more motivated 2 get this player.....i kno it is THE bomb rite now, blows all the competiton away.....nice review.....but i thnk u missed one the d2's main feature...it video prowess on its 16 million colour screen and its compatability with many vid formats.
SDHC cards will eventually reach up to 32GB in the future. Right now the Max is 8GB. This player should accept any capacity SDHC in the future.
The D2 has one of the strongest internal amps compared to other mp3 players. You won't get better SQ out of any other player without a headphone amp.
A GREAT VIDEO!!!!
answers many of my burning questions and the like. I do wish that cowon issues a free case, like Apple and several other players do. I love the Cowon D2, and i can't wait to get mine!
This thing was so ahead of its time.
one more note on the archos 7 you can get it with different sizes of hard drives as well i have the 320GB hard drive. it also has i GB of internal memory. the one i have won't fit in your pocket but for what it does and the high def it is worth it to me. the smaller version of the archos will fit in your pocket and they have a bigger version thatn the archos 7.
Great review. I'm currently searching for a new player and this one looks awesome.
Generally, a review that starts with "what I think is the best flash-based MP3 player on the market" might not be very objective.
no the ipod touch has a full screen touchscreen i think its about two times the d2, but sound quality is about half of the d2.
2023: still using mine just fine, great battery life
Excellent video, Pierre! Very professional.
Thanks for this great indepth review. I think I am sold!
Personally, Its a bit older mp3 player, but its sound quality is just unrivaled to this day, especially for the price, it beats a ipod any day.
Wow the memories...
I just ordered a Cowon D2+ 8 GB. I can't wait. How's the sound quality? I am using an audio technica ck7 canalphone.
you did not mention the d2's flash player. nice review, just right. except for the boot up time. mine took 5 secs on start up with 16% of flash memory usage... not bad anyway. thanks. got 1 this afternoon. very nice UI. sounds awesome m8
hey, I see you're from Canada as well. Hopefully when the S9 finally comes out, you can make a nice in depth review like this!
& i like the smoothness of video. as long as its 320x240.. works well.
Your good man you should be reviewing other products too, I just have two questions wich video formats does it support, and does it have an auto-fit option ( so the video get's adjusted to the screen resolution)

one of the best video reviews i ever seen :) and nice player, lots of features, but it will not replace my 4GB CLIX 2 :)
Your review was as great as the product!
Kudos!
I found your video very helpful. I see you posted this video about 17 months ago. Do you still stand by your comments today that this is the best flash player on the market. Wow that's an awesome and very professional review.

hi, excellent review video!!!! I have a quick question: can you put youtube videos on cowon d2?
Great video!
Made me buy the D2. =D Just hope it's as good you make it look!
so it's not a review, but a reccomendation?
A review would cover the negatives of it too, and don't say there are none. There are always negatives.
@lechatmaurice The new J3 has both touchscreen and physical buttons.
Nice review very professional and detailed!!
good review..but i still consider the yp-p3 the better alternative...
thanks so much for the review. it helped me so much
Thank you so much, this is a very helpfull review for me ! i don't know actually if i'll buy a cowon D2 or a iriver clix 2... ;-)
this is actually not a good mp3 player, it has alot of great features, one of my favorite is the radio recording. but it a pain sometimes, the screen is way to small, and if you have big fingers it can be hard to touch one button at a time. i returned my d2 and preordered a ipod touch, i will have a review up for that soon.
great review! more organized than most others!
Now the Cowon D2 costs more then 80$ on eBay
brilliant review! very very well done
heck yeah. more sturdy than ipod by far.
Thanks for a a great review!
WOW this looks great!

I had one till the solder that holds the buttons broke ... except that it was the best ever media player
Nice Review!
Can you tell me if the D2 or D2+ are able to move files to & from the SD card from the player interface??
Thanks

I Think i am gonna buy it! Amazing thing you know.
It's great. It's the best review I've ever seen before. Cool~~
Creative Zen, Creative Zen X-Fi or Cowon D/D2+ Which to choose?!
It has the microphone already built in to record.
The Zen X-Fi is pretty expensive, and kinda big. I don't think it has an SD card slot either.
Ecellent and enjoyable. Thank you.
Is this a unit that I would be able to take on a run? It doesn't seem exercise-friendly. Any response would be appreciated. Thanks!!
Thanks for doing this video!
Did the Cowan D2 come with the cable for the line -in - recording?
Great review!
wow that sd card was only 80 bucks what a steal *checks amazon price* WHAT THE HAILL!!!

Wouldn't it be cheaper to buy the D2 on the Dell Canada website for Canadians? (because less shipping charges, i guess?) Anyway. Thanks for that review! I was sure that I was going to buy an iRiver clix 2, and now I'm thinking about buying a D2! XD
