Do you have to overfill the tires first? might help if you would explain. if you start with 35 psi , at what point do you get the beep and then you have to refill them again I assume. little vague on the procedure.
You start at around normal pressure 36psi and you let air out of each tire until it beeps. And then add air back up to 36psi or where you keep proper tire pressure for your vehicle. If it never beeps and tire is almost flat then you have a bad sensor.
sweet. worked perfectly on my 2014 f150. thank you!
Glad it helped
What did u pressure the tires up to before you dropped them down for the horn
I have a 2009 Ford F-250 and I was able to get it into training but when letting air out of the first tire the truck would not honk. I tried twice and now I need to get air in my tire. I suspect that means that the left front tire has a bad sensor?
Yes, it’s probably a dead battery, bad sensor
Thank you! I echo what everyone says! One question on something I ran into. I got this process started but once it got me to right front tire I let air out of it and it never honked to move onto the rear passenger tire. I got down to 30 psi on the right front tire (max 51psi). Any idea what may cause that? Do I have possibly a bad sensor on that tire?
Thank you too!
Yes it does sound like a bad sensor
Thanks.
No problem
So if it horn twice means that I have a bad sensor? Do I need a whole new tire? Thanks
Yes or you didn’t complete the cycle properly. Not a whole tire just the sensor
So I have question. I just had three sensors replaced. Mechanic said to drive 20 + miles and the light would reset ( it hasn’t yet) !
Were they supposed to do this re- learn or do it with a scan tool?
New sensors have to be reprogrammed into the vehicle’s computer, THEN relearned with scan tool.
Hi do you have to refill the air to operating Preasure after the reset?
Yes, never drive without the proper tire pressure.
It worked on my 2014 F-150. Horn doesn't work so I just listened for the chime when the horn would have come on.
Awesome! Thanks for the feedback
Awesome
Thank you!
Does this work on Ford Expedition 2014? Or do I need a scanner device.
It should, basically the same vehicle.
Will that procedure work for a 08 f 150 limited?
It should, give it a try.
I just had all 4 tires replaced (rims and tires) last week on my 2009 Mercury Milan. Drove the car a little here and there, and today I get this tire sensor fault message. Do I have to go back to the tire dealership and have them reprogram the tires? Thanks for the video, very helpful. 🙂
Thank you!, Yes you do.
Will this work if I install NEW take offs on my 2013 from a 2021 F150. If not, is there a procedure?
Not sure if the sensors are the same, you would have to research that. If they are different just install your old sensors in the new wheels
@@Motorcarnut Yes, I could do that, but the last time I broke down a car tire was in the 50's and we drove over the tire to break it down. Tubes back then, too. I have done many motorcycles, but not cars. I planned to sell my old set. thanks for the reply!!!
No problem
Did you ever figure out if they would work?
2021 sensor are different from 2013
But, no mention as to the starting tire pressure. Do you inflate to the proper tire pressure then deflate to train?
Starting pressure should always be the proper inflation then deflate to train then inflate to proper pressure when done.
Question when you get out of your truck did you turn off the key?
While your doing the test?, No
I took my new sensors to discount tires and they programmed and relearned them to my f150 for FREE!
Sounds like a great deal to me
@@Motorcarnut yeah right. I was surprised. Nobody does anything for free these days
So im assuming the tire that wont train is the tire sensor thats out?
Yes, most likely the battery inside the sensor. They last for 5 to 10 years, some sooner some later.
@@Motorcarnut thanks
Both front tires had a beep right away. My left rear had a lot more air released and then I heard 2 beeps of the horn. left rear almost all air out but no beep. It said low air pressure on dash.
Sounds like you may have a bad sensor. The 2 beeps probably made the system end before learning.
@@Motorcarnut
Then is this the right pressure or need to top up afterwards?
Need to inflate to proper pressure again
Have 2013 f150 to reset light all I did was fill tires to correct pressure (35) unhook negative battery turn lights on..reconnect battery, started truck and yes the light was still so I drove it 1/2 mile and the low tire light turned off...all on its own.
There was probably nothing wrong with yours.
I tried this and I released so much air and the horn never went off..I purchased newer tires and rims off road and had new sensors put in and the warning came up,they tried to recalibrate it and nothing..I took it to ford and they said the rear ones are bad..I took it back and they decided to put my original tpms on the new rims and tires same issue which worked with my original factory tires andrims..Can someone tell what's the problem, before I go back to ford...Thanks
The sensors probably have to be reprogrammed then relearned.
@@Motorcarnut TY
.
Is there a way to find out if you have a bad sensor besides this?
Yes, with a scan tool.
@@Motorcarnut ok I used it and got the code. So I did the relearn and I will see it that fixes it because they all beeped
If you got a code that should be taken care of first.
Are you letting all air out or just some?
As much as needed until it beeps. After you finish all 4 wheels you have to add air to proper specs for your vehicle
So, it worked BUT, I had to let out a lot of air on LF. Then after the error cleared when I completed the process, the error came back after a few minutes. Likely because my LF is low after letting so much air out. LESSON, don't do this unless you have an air compressor nearby to refill your tires.
Good point!
I was doing this and from 40psi and to 30 psi . And still no horn sound I was like let me do this later when I get to the gas station first
Do you have to add the air back afterwards?
Yes you do and sensors are different and have to be replaced
My brain just locked up reading that..... Seriously?
@@djwilson48625 mine did also .
Does the horn go off on every tier
Yes on every learned wheel
Does this work for new sensors?
No you have to reprogram them first with a scan tool.
Do you have a video for a 2008
Sorry I don’t
@@Motorcarnut thank you, I found a video don’t a small tool. I will order it from Amazon and try it out
Great hopefully it will work!
I didn’t know rotates now i cant get it to relearn with the scan tool so im trying this
It worked light is off hell yeah
Lol, great it helped!
So do I put extra air then let out??
Fill to proper inflation then let it out as stated in video. Once it’s complete refill to proper inflation again
What do you do if one of them actually does not work?
Either that one has to be reprogramed then relearned or replaced.
@@Motorcarnut how does one reprogram it???
It requires a tpms scan tool
I tried and i did
All the steps first tire 👌 put the passenger side didn't work
Probably that passenger side sensor is bad
May be a stupid question but with all the air you let out of those tires I would think the light should be on until you air them up to correct psi.
I installed new ones for my 2014 f150but can’t get it to relearn
You have to reprogram them first before the relearn and need a scan tool to do it.
@@Motorcarnut k thx
I tried this. Driver honked once. Got to my passenger side the horn honked twice. And it said to repeat test. inflated all back to proper psi. And ran test again and passenger side honked twice, that tells me that my battery is DEAD. Just logic here folks
Dead battery means failed sensor as i stated. Battery is not replaceable. But to be 100% sure you need to "look" at the sensor data with a scan tool which is not what this video is about.
how do you hit "OK"?
On the left side of the steering wheel there’s a square button with the “ok” in the middle you press.
@@Motorcarnut Thanks
Had this notification for a while on my truck, and recently my husband had the four wheels replaced (new rims also, everything bigger than the original) by a small local shop nearby. How is the truck able to to detect new, bigger tires installed?
It won’t unless they installed the original sensors in their original locations. Plus larger diameter tires will throw the mph off a little.
This didn’t work on my 2009 Ford F-150 :((
If it didn’t work you probably have a bad sensor in one of the wheels.
What are you pushing to make it okay
Ok on steering wheel
@@Motorcarnut the only okay is next to the phone symbol on the steering wheel
Correct or the hazard button depending on what year you have.
Thank you very much
@larryrockett8707 no problem
2011 F150 Lariat doesn't work. All new sensors and it doesn't notice when removing air
Then you need to reprogram them to the vehicle first then relearn them to each wheel
@@Motorcarnut I'll give it a try
@@Motorcarnut And how do you do that?
With a scan tool or tpms tool
It was my dad's truck and he passed away and mom didn't know how to fix it and dad did have the tires rotated
Sorry for your loss. I’m glad this helped you!
I guess I’m the bad Apple of the bunch because this didn’t work for me. I went to train the front tire and let the air out two times and both times the horn blew, but it said retrain. 🤷🏼
Can be a bad sensor itself.
Sir... I have flown halfway across the world just to attend a church in England and while I was there I had a conversation with a church-mouse who spoke louder than you. Please speak up or clear your microphone.
If you're having conversations with church mice you have bigger problems than the volume in my video.
@@Motorcarnut I'm kidding lol.
Me too, lol
To slow
That’s the procedure without any tools. And most people don’t have tpms tools or a scan tool.
