      Thank you. Though I hate going political, Jimmy Carter tried to get the 2 State solution passed. His efforts to bring peace in the region, should not be diminished, or forgotten. What will always be required from all players, is the right, of "the other" to exist ! As long as two peoples refuse to accept the right for the other to exist, no peace can be had, or forthcoming. Sadly, and tragically, for our entire Planet !
      Back to the music and artist, I feel the same about this artist, and the late, great, Amy Winehouse, and her song relating to strife in Ireland. I love spiritually, both women, and highly value their contributions to music, and the struggle against violence, period.

What started as a modern Sean Nós Punk fusion of a protest song and a reaction to 8 children passing in a bombing during the Troubles turned into the Anthem of frustration of War. I hope we can get past this division among Americans. Too many just going along for the ride, without realizing you can't necessarily trust the one driving! We don't need a civil war here, nor an economic collapse, nor censorship/book bans. We just need to see each other as "our countrymen" again, treat one another with basic respect, abide by our laws and WORK to change the things we don't agree with.
      Ireland's war ended eventually and thank God! I remember seeing those violent attacks on TV, routinely. It was heartbreaking!

      I just recently heard this song on the radio. I liked the melody but paid little attention to the lyrics other than the word "Zombie", that of which was kind of a turn-off. However, I wanted to hear it again and looked it up on RUclips, giving myself the opportunity to, not just hear the lyrics but to listen to the message. I regret not giving this band more credit while this beautiful person was still alive, because I would have taken the time to attend a concert when in Los Angeles. I would have made every effort to get an opportunity to sit with her and listen to her talk about her experience(s), and her perspective on the current status and view of the world at that particular time and place.
      I think this video captures an emotional look into the everlasting left-over, pieces of war but as well, the toll it takes not just on the environment but also the generations that are to follow, that will learn and continue to carry throughout history the knowledge of mankind and his quest for power and the reason there will never be a world of true happiness free from the destruction created from the curiosity of man.
      What, WTF does that mean?

    When I heard this song the first time I was in an Irish pub in Florence, I didn’t see it coming. I knew not who were the Cranberries. They were close to nobody in my country. Dolores was among the first singers using the falsetto in the way she did, to hit right inside your soul. The painful suffering of families destroyed and young people trying to save their own lives was all there, in their songs, in her voice. So I was drinking my Guinness both excited for this amazing sound and with my heart crumbling, my eyes becoming more watery by the second. It has been a powerful emotion that I still feel when I hear this song. We have been lucky to have Dolores among us

    • @hotchkissrecords
      @hotchkissrecords 4 года назад +37

      @Paige Arbogast Well, it's up to you how you'd like to interpret it, as there's an "official" purpose for the song dealing w/violence in Ireland. But if you don't put it in that context, it's applicable to all war. Basically, the average person views war as this vicarious "oh, they're over there fighting" kinda thing. Average folks don't talk about it & when they do it's dismissive of reality. The "zombie" is the fact that, in your head, you think of these humans fighting in a war when reality is you should consider them likely dead as that's how serious you should treat war. These dead soldiers are no longer with us, but in your head, they are still fighting. It's sick that we all think of war so dismissively. It's heartless & I'm ashamed of myself for not noticing this about myself sooner. I will NEVER allow my children to sign up to be in the military
