The reason of having a Steam, is to be able to play via Steam without any strings attached. This is the reason I'm not playing EA or Ubisoft games on Steam, even when a fun game like Dead Island 2 releases with requirement of linking via Epic Games Store. This is bullshit and I doubt the community will stand for it.
What surprises me the most is that Steam is very close to being almost a "console experience" where you just download and launch a game and just play but Valve just wouldn't press other publisher to shove their crap where it belongs.

I bought the game on steam, I play it on steam, I don't even own PS5 so I don't need PSN account, period. But what are the actual negatives of signing up? yeah they have been hacked in the past but steam gets hacked a lot too. Over 77,000 Steam accounts are hacked and raided every month. Steam also sells user data to Google. It doesn't really feel like any positives or negatives are going to come out of this.
@@christopherclough559 Biggest data breach that PSN had was over 70m accounts leaked, including logins, emails, passwords, personal information, linked payments methods like credit cards information and stuff. They are clueless when it comes to protecting their customers data. Another thing is, why they feel the need of having me registering and linking PSN account to play the game if they already have my information provided by steam? It's just pure greed from Sony to increase their numbers for their shareholders.

Just a reminded, PSN is being known for the biggest gaming data leak in the gaming history. 70 millions accounts leaked with passwords, emails, personal data as well as payment methods like credit cards information. Correct me if I'm wrong but I couldn't find the rules where they stated they will ban the user if the user use psn account from another country. My country is not in the list to create the psn account, so I created an account by using the closest country in the list. Been using in for 10 years now, so far no issue. Had an issue once regarding refunding a game, I told them I'm from another country and using a different county's psn, it wasn't an issue for them. Just exta info, I even created 3 different PSN accounts from 3 different countries. Never had an issue.

At the end of the day, this wasn’t an Arrowhead decision. Sony saw the success of Helldivers as a way to double back on money by selling account info. But in order to do this, they need people’s emails from Steam, so they change the policy on their website after the backlash hit the fan to go from “optional” to “required”. Sony is to blame, not Arrowhead.
In some countries, there is something called "dead law". It's a term for when something is legally valid but literally no one is enforcing it because it makes no sense. Even if you read TOS, you would assume it was an example of such "dead law" because you were NOT forced to do this for months now. It is a malicious practice, even if legally correct and well within their right.
It is actually NOT in the terms of service. I read the User Agreement and the EULA, and nothing in there indicates that linking Steam and PSN account is mandatory. The only indication a PSN account is required is a tiny box on the steam store page, which DOES NOT state that steam and PSN account need to be linked, only you need to have one. This announcement is changing the contract I entered when I bought the game, it also represents _optional_ (as it is obviously not technically required) personal data collection that I do not and never did consent to, which under GDPR is a big no-no.

It’s always been there in description the thing is they are fixing it cause should’ve had to link a psn account to play since day if it was working like it was supposed to from day one we wouldn’t be making these videos or having these complaints so that’s on arrowhead not PlayStation

While this is undoubtedly Sony's decision manifest by lack of pushback from Arrowhead, it's not like Arrowhead is innocent or even necessarily good guys in the first place. They've literally been stealth buffing how annoying the slow debuff is, and now they're about to release a pseudo-paywalled fix that costs your squad a booster slot to be used. Honestly don't think this is a big deal. To play any game lately you have to sign up for any of these. Cyberpunk 2077, Baldur's Gate 3, any of the epic games, Valorant, League of Legends, Fortnite, etc...I guess I am not seeing the outrage about this. I don’t think Arrowhead had much a choice in this “decision”, it might mostly be Sony seeing the success of Helldivers 2 and greedily capitalising on it. Arrowhead has been so friendly, interactive, and kind to their community, so it would be very unlikely for them to willingly do this, as they even made it optional at the launch of Helldivers 2. I could be wrong, however, maybe Arrowhead did deliberately give a metaphorical middle finger to its community, but I would mostly blame Sony for this abhorrent turn of events… Edit: Sources (Bing Chat) said it was a decision by Arrowhead Studios, but it seems awfully strange for them to pull this complete 180…

200 hours in and I had to uninstall, enough is enough. Just too many things are ruining the fun. The devs need a head patch. ( if you still enjoy it, good for you and have a blast, not saying you should quit or that it is bad for most people)
I've seen speculation that this was a move by Sony and/or a move towards cross-save, but either way I agree that this is a bad move and wasn't well thought out from a PR standpoint. In my opinion they should have instead just offered rewards (for example maybe 1000 Super Credits and/or a new cape) for linking their PSN account while they came up with a better solution. This way they could resolve the issue for many of their accounts with a "carrot" instead of a "stick" while trying to better accommodate other accounts later.
I’ve said it before and I will again Sony is horrible for games. They do this, they were the sole hold out for cross play, and they cry about exclusives with xbox when sony themselves are the WORST for it. There is no reason for this other then them pulling more of there BS. Everyone should change there review to neg and we should have a day/s of boycott over this.

It needs to be said that this is Sony pushing this on Arrowhead. Sony published the game and so they are pressing Arrowhead to get more out of their big cash cow, so don't blame Arrowhead as their hands are tied. Something I could see happening is that Sony and Arrowhead come up with a work around for people that don't have PSN in their country, and that should solve the issue everyone has.

PSN is not available in every country. People who live in these countries where there is no PSN who are playing the game right now, will no longer be able to play.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I couldn't find the rules where they stated they will ban the user if the user use psn account from another country. My country is not in the list to create the psn account, so I created an account by using the closest country in the list. Been using in for 10 years now, so far no issue. Had an issue once regarding refunding a game, I told them I'm from another country and using a different county's psn, it wasn't an issue for them. Just exta info, I even created 3 different PSN accounts from 3 different countries. Never had an issue.
While I don't like that they are forcing their players to link a PSN account, I think it's disingenuous on your part to add a fake tweet in your thumbnail saying that "Link your PSN Account now or be banned". It's not helping and causing more outrage.

At the end of the day, this wasn’t an Arrowhead decision. Sony saw the success of Helldivers as a way to double back on money by selling account info. But in order to do this, they need people’s emails from Steam, so they change the policy on their website after the backlash hit the fan to go from “optional” to “required”. Sony is to blame, not Arrowhead.

In some countries, there is something called "dead law". It's a term for when something is legally valid but literally no one is enforcing it because it makes no sense.
Even if you read TOS, you would assume it was an example of such "dead law" because you were NOT forced to do this for months now. It is a malicious practice, even if legally correct and well within their right.
It is actually NOT in the terms of service. I read the User Agreement and the EULA, and nothing in there indicates that linking Steam and PSN account is mandatory. The only indication a PSN account is required is a tiny box on the steam store page, which DOES NOT state that steam and PSN account need to be linked, only you need to have one.
This announcement is changing the contract I entered when I bought the game, it also represents _optional_ (as it is obviously not technically required) personal data collection that I do not and never did consent to, which under GDPR is a big no-no.

Honestly don't think this is a big deal. To play any game lately you have to sign up for any of these. Cyberpunk 2077, Baldur's Gate 3, any of the epic games, Valorant, League of Legends, Fortnite, etc...I guess I am not seeing the outrage about this. Oddly it seems like Arrowhead actually want people to review bomb tf out of Helldivers 2. They've said as much and aren't even trying to put water on the fires around this situation. I don’t think Arrowhead had much a choice in this “decision”, it might mostly be Sony seeing the success of Helldivers 2 and greedily capitalising on it. Arrowhead has been so friendly, interactive, and kind to their community, so it would be very unlikely for them to willingly do this, as they even made it optional at the launch of Helldivers 2. I could be wrong, however, maybe Arrowhead did deliberately give a metaphorical middle finger to its community, but I would mostly blame Sony for this abhorrent turn of events…

I've seen speculation that this was a move by Sony and/or a move towards cross-save, but either way I agree that this is a bad move and wasn't well thought out from a PR standpoint.
In my opinion they should have instead just offered rewards (for example maybe 1000 Super Credits and/or a new cape) for linking their PSN account while they came up with a better solution.
This way they could resolve the issue for many of their accounts with a "carrot" instead of a "stick" while trying to better accommodate other accounts later.

It needs to be said that this is Sony pushing this on Arrowhead. Sony published the game and so they are pressing Arrowhead to get more out of their big cash cow, so don't blame Arrowhead as their hands are tied. Something I could see happening is that Sony and Arrowhead come up with a work around for people that don't have PSN in their country, and that should solve the issue everyone has.

Look, let’s be honest, there’s NO way AH didn’t know about this in some capacity. These things aren’t last minute as you still need the game to function with that extra layer in the server side. AH didn’t probably know when it would happen, but not all of the blame is squarely on Sony in this case.
