3 men in plaid and jeans talk about jigsaw puzzles, why do I love this
😮post 0
😂🤣😂
That Tangents-worthy puzzle digression had me cracking up less than 5 minutes in. You guys really do have the best chemistry on RUclips.
Let's just hope they don't summon any Cenobites!
i li said oooo
2:50 the tragic moment that led to the Comic Pop Civil War
it "puzzles" me this argument even happend
19:35
Funny enough, in Spider-Man PS4, on the JJJ podcast, he is constantly trying to say that it wasn’t his fault that the experiment made Scorpion crazy, and that the idea was to create a not threatening anti Spider-Man. But it was totally his fault.
42:07 i love the image of electro sitting in the audience and slowly getting more and more pissed. he goes outside and just starts blasting away while shouting 'what the hell did i just watch? there's no plot to any of it!'
“You know, the maitre d’? I don’t know. The guy who works there. I don’t know what you Call the guy who works there...”
*Tiffany (steps out from the darkness):* “Why, it’s the host, of course.” *steps back into the shadows*
“Ah yes.”
I definitely would be interested in the Beniverse. Callous meeting the Jizzler or Baristo would be a sight to behold.
And dont forget The Bear!
"Hey Uncle Ben check out this piece!" 🤣 omg that was too much. 58:31
Coincidentally, saw this on Peter David's Facebook page a few hours ago:
A question for the hive mind:
We are going to be doing another Symbiote Spider-Man limited series. I was contemplating doing a story set during the Joe Fixit era, bringing Symbiote Spider-Man to Vegas.
But then I realized that the times don't match up; that Spidey was no longer wearing the Symbiote suit when the Hulk reigned as Joe Fixit. So the continuity wouldn't match up.
On the other hand, it was forty years ago.
Do you think we should adhere strictly to continuity or just say "Screw it" and go ahead with it.
PAD
Oh my god, shut up and take my money. Joe Fixit is the best hulk.
Peter David is indeed a great writer. For those who may not know he not only wrote comic books like The Incredible Hulk,X-Factor,Young Justice, etc but also quite a few Star Trek novels.
Before becoming The Undertaker in the -then WWF, he was known as "Mean" Mark Callous in WCW.
This got me thinking, Peter David may be the only person on earth who may be able to create a coherent story using all the peices of Undertaker and Kane lore (including all the Journey Into Darkness and 90's comic stuff) if given a chance.
Tons of fantastic conversations in this episode! I especially loved the Ben-i-verse, the opening with Ethan, and the whole "pity sex" convo.
Mysterio is honestly one of the more interesting villains in Spider-Man's rogues gallery to me; conceptually, the master of illusion and subterfuge guys are just my favorite archetype. It's too bad he doesn't seem to get many good stories to shine in. I guess like my favorite Batman villain, Riddler, they're just more difficult to write for.
The most interesting Mysterio story they've done on Back Issues was a Daredevil book for crying out loud....
@Christopher Zubin I wholeheartedly agree. I’m also glad someone else kinda drew the parallels of Riddler and Mysterio be cool and having so much potential as villains. Also what Daredevil story was Mysterio in again?
@@lexofpower2822 Daredevil: Guardian Devil
Like Sal says whenever the Riddler comes up, you need to either, be a genius, or you need enough time to write as one, and neither are common in comics.
@@ChristopherZubin personally if I were doing a Batman story where he fights the Riddler, I would make Batman have to fight his way out of a Saw like escape room scenario. That was an idea for a Batman movie I had a couple years back.
Fun fact, the guy who drew this series is notorious for tracing pornographic images for his characters expressions. Also the series has to take place sometime in the late 80’s because Spider-Man fights at Shea Stadium, and based on how it was drawn it had to have been the late 80’s.
It's really obvious sometimes which faces or poses come from porn too
Felicia's face at 23:40 is classic Greg Land
The amount of math going on in Sal's head deducing Peters first bang, Sherlockian mental palaces fall short
Weird how they put that story or Symbiote Spider-Man into this episode about puzzles...
To be fair Spiderman 30 years ago is better than he was 5 years ago.
Agreed 100%. I miss the 80’s Spider-Man.
Tony Stark The Spencer, And Zsadarsky are good but the development is gone.
2020-30=1990......I think you’re lying
DigitalRag3X As a Character Peter was better developed then than he is now
adam quenano hell no, 90s Peter was far from being a developed character, dude kept going nuts and history was constantly getting erased, things are far better with Zdarsky or Taylor than it was with most writers in the 90s
"Hey Uncle Ben, check out this piece".
Had to pause this video at 0:16 because I heard the name "Greg Land."
This is sure to be another home run of an episode.
Damn Aunt May sounds as harsh as my mom in this story
So DC movies came out in the Marvel universe...? Batman is just a media character to Mysterio?? Don't tell Grant Morrison!
Grant Morrion: How deep can I make this rabbit hole go further?
Fun story from my pov: I watched the Back Issues episode of the 90s' Symbiote Spider-Man, then I saw this book at the local game and nerdy stuff shop. First comic book I ever bought. Looking forward to what you say in this episode.
Sal mentioning Kratos made my day. I love those games. Peter David is also awesome!
I'm all in on the Beniverse...with Ethan as "The Puzzler"
Should've called it Spiderman: Eurotrip. That would've been funny to see the reaction to
🎶Spidey doesn't know, that I'm not a hero, from another universe.
I tell him I'm saving this world, except I'm destroying Starks legacy, still it doubles the damage.
Spidey doesn't know.
Ohhh, Spidey doesn't knooooow.
So don't tell Spidey.
Spidey doesn't know.
Spidey doesn't know.
So don't tell Spidey!🎶
-Mysterio
Now I can’t get “Spidy doesn’t know, that Fiona and me, do it in my van every Sunday” out of my head 😂
🎶Cause Spidey doesn't know.
Spidey doesn't know.
Spidey doesn't know.
Spidey doesn't know.
So don't tell Spidey.
Spidey doesn’t knooooooow....
So don’t tell Spidey!🎶
I think this story would be placed sometime during August or September of 1984 (though no clue where in the Marvel sliding timeline). The symbiote suit debuted in ASM #252 in May '84, as did Felicia's bad luck powers (PPSSM #90), and Reed Richards determined the suit was a living symbiote trying to bond with Peter in ASM#258 (Nov '84), so it's definitely somewhere in that interval. I say August or September because PPSSM #93 (Aug '84) is where Spidey and Cat argue over her disinterest in his Peter Parker identity and her almost revealing his secret to his landlady by going in and out of the apartment window. I doubt it would be October because visually nothing in this book looks like October in NYC--which again, the sliding timeline kind of makes irrelevant anyway--but it is Greg Land so ya never know haha. Also, it might be a fun little nod if David was pegging the canonical date of Uncle Ben's death to August 10th, the date that Amazing Fantasy #15 was published in 1962. In any event, it definitely takes place before PPSSM #98 (Jan '85), when Jonathan "Johnny" Ohnn becomes Spider-Man's greatest foe, the Spot! :P
The first name that comes to mind for a Venom Mysterio Mash-up is Ven-terio, but that just sounds like an STI.
the Cats non sequitur at 41:45 is insanely funny! I've re-watched it 5 times!
Puzzle talk is singlehandedly my favorite tangent ever thanks guys this video was part of my morning routine appreciate y'all starting my day with laughter that made my family ask if I was okay mentally
REALLY? Nobody on that couch thought to joke about flipping Hard Rock's name? Where are you at Ben!?
The first five minutes of this episode are glorious.
I've been watching these to help me fall asleep for years now. Thanks for the new episode.
Such an underrated channel, you guys should be the most followed comic book channel
"Hey uncle Ben, check out this piece!" 😭
I stopped watching Back Issues to come watch Back Issues.
Same
I used the stones to destroy the stones
Favorite Back Issues to rewatch while waiting for a new ep? Mine:
Court of Owls
Mask in the Iron Man
The one where Ben says "For England, Frankenstein?"
@@captainvimes6079
I GOTTA know when does Ben say "For England, Frankenstein"
Captain Vimes
In no particular order:
Young Justice
This episode
All of the Star Wars episodes
Batman: Universe
Illuminati
Most of the Bat Issues
The Ultimate Spider-Man series
The Crisis series
It’s hard to remember all of them, because they’re constantly being replaced by more favorites.
If only HardRock was in a different film industry his name would’ve changed by one letter
Will we see a Blue Marvel Back Issues similar to the Spawn Back Issues last year?
the puzzle bit was so fucking funny
yo, i ain't even halfway thru and the punchlines in this episode are a plenty and hitting like TRAINS 💀
legitimately on track to being my favorite back issues, can't even exaggerate that lol
edit: is for a fact my favorite episode
took me about 2 hours to watch this hour 15 from the constant rewinding lmao amazing job, y'all 🤞
also my new rap name is "the callous"
I also like the idea of Mysterio's plan was just to outright kill Mr. Mistoffelees.
10:56
There's a dirty joke here but I'm not smart enough to think of one
This book was a lot better than I expected and was reading it at the same time as I was reading the Alien Costume Saga and he really knew his continuity, still gotta check out the sequel though, but yeah sucks that Land is in this, the colorist is pretty good though and helps me stomach the art
I’m excited to see you guys tear into Absolute Carnage and react to all the crazy moments 😂
ComicPop puts out a 74 minute Back Issues right before bed.. screw it! I don't need sleep
Less than 3 minutes into the episode, and it's already hilarious
Shoutout to Noobmaster69 lol
Comicpop consistently puts out content! Very addicting and I am always very excited
This episode was quintessential back issues ,love it !
Symberio? Mysteriote? Mysymberiote?
Whatever it's rad!
Very quip heavy episode fitting for a Spiderman comic
“Fuck you” *disappears into the ether* hahahaha.
Now I have a New Favourite episode. Great work Everyone
I've listened to the Puzzle part so many times now. Comedy gold!
i remember human fly being a villain in the flash thompson venom run
Mysterio: Don't try to eat it.
Kingpin: I don't want it.
I’ve been sitting on this video waiting for when I had to work late... and alas, that day has come.
this feels like a story sal enjoyed, which is always a treat!!!
Black Cat's surgery for bad luck powers have to be done underneath a ladder while Doctor opened an umbrella indoors.
“I was a big deal in the twenties” @comicpop that had me crying at work! 😂
These videos are always a blast, can't wait for the next one!
Alternate title, the one where the guys talk about puzzles😂
Just finished reading it and unlocked this video as a reward for completion. Nice
I actually really like Callus/Callous as a comic-book character name.
I liked puzzles when I was younger. I guess I became less patient when I grew up.
Sal- He Zaps him
Ethan with obvious disdain- With what? 😅 something about that made him look like he was judging someone through gossip he heard second hand
I had to double back for Ethans Fuck Yooooouuuu 🤣 so God damn funny. Love you guys
47:33 lol I was bummed Sal forgot the puking in helmet scene from earlier. Nice save!
Ethan, the puzzle expert over here.
I am watching this video from the past...so the time of when this happened in Marvel comics....oh no, I have gone cross-eyed.
Loved the Hilarious tangents this episode!
Black Cat got her bad luck abilities from the dollar store brand Unlucky Harms vaguely not card board sort of cereal with hints of gluten.
3:27 "FOK UUU"
Glad we got some puzzle talk from Ethan this episode 💀
2:04 Best of ComicPop puzzle
Watching a random back issues episode during the election because I’m so anxious of the results and this is my comfort show
Spider-man gets into too many altercations because of graveyard interaction
thanks for making fun content for this international student away from home during these times
Gotta have my Wednesday morning ComicPop. Ok now that's done I have to watch like 5 other episodes of Back Issues
Omg a Back Issues on my birthday? This is the best present ever!!
The Population demands a Beniverse Tee
53:35 I think this is the explanation of the symbiote being in the MCU, even tho not really explained here I feel like they used this as reference
Despite how played out I find the symbiote I've always been curious what Black Cat would have done with the symbiote given her grey morality seems between Peter a d Eddie's. Plus being a thief the chameleon clothes changes seem more practical to her like shifting into a guard uniform to rob a major diamond and what not?
Great Ep! I wasn't expecting the puzzle talk but I definitely needed it!
Love these episodes with 15 minutes of casual riffing at the start 👌 such a great way to start the discussion 😂
4:28
"Here's a puzzle. Try putting it back together. It's your horse."
20:19
Fun fact: Bluebird _is_ a Spider-Man character that coincidentally also first appeared in a retconned story that took place in Peter's highschool days. She was the alter-ego of one of Peter's friends. He got her killed.
It'd've been cool if symbiote Mysterio had white wigglers flowing up from his head, evocative of flames, implying that's where the idea for Ultimate Mysterio originated.
what an awesome idea
So from what I found Hardrock is a mutant on the wiki page. Does that mean he's back because of House of X???
Shots fired and an endgame reference this is going be an episode
Some spicy Comicpop puzzle takes on this episode
I think the longest running Broadway show at the time this book is set was A Chorus Line which is basically Cats but about human dancers
“Now be PJs” 😭🤣😭
Hard rock 🤣😂🤣 bro this episode got me dying!
Hmm...Mysterio+Venom...could it bee Venere- Nope!
You guys are so great! Thanks for the great content as always 👍🏾 👍🏾
love the opening
4 minutes in and you all are cracking me up 😂😂😂
Another Back Issues Classic! Thanks all!
One pet peeve I have whenever Venom comes up, is how is he stronger than Spider-Man? I get that Eddie Brock is a bodybuilder and is physically larger than Peter Parker. But if Regular Human Man Eddie Brock were to arm-wrestle Radioactive Spider Guy Peter Parker (nebbish bookworm notwithstanding), Peter is way, way stronger than baseline Eddie.
So when the symbiote enhances Brock’s “peak human conditioning” or whatever, how is Venom stronger than Spider-Man, who was already superhumanly strong? Is the symbiote just that big of a multiplier? Or should I just accept that it’s comic logic and Venom is stronger because he’s bigger?
I just started college again I needed this 👍🏽
The Puzzler origin story: Burned a car and solved a puzzle. Good Tangent
1:09:26 Subbed just for that
Venomized Mysterio, there are Funko Pops of basically everyone, Venomized.
