I really appreciate you still display the Funko Pops I made for you all. I thought they'd have a short lifespan but that's really cool, I appreciate it a ton!
Man this episode had everything: Gunthar, Ben in "Timeout", hilariously timed Simpsons references and who could forget the mentioning of "salad tossing". Jiminy Jillikers!!!!
Part of of this book was made into a pretty good 6-episode miniseries. The show was supposed to be longer, but unfortunately was cancelled for reasons I don't remember.
I'm only halfway through this episode and I've see the first ever Back Issues time out and the return of Gunthar! I love this episode already PS - 59:23, OMG. I laughed so hard
I kinda dug this story, based solely on the Back Issues telling but still.. By the way transferring digital information via sound is a real thing, however everything else in that moment of the story about Klau being digitized is pure comic "goodness".
SimplySam Can you imagine the rest of cast for the movie?? Ryan Reynolds as Ben, Zooey Deschanel as Tiffany and Mark Ruffalo as Sal. Also, Hulk Hogan will play Santa. Directed by Darren Aronofsky
I've never read a comic with Black Panther, but the trailer for the movie looks bad-ass and I really liked his chase scene in Civil War, so I appreciate the recommendation! Thanks!
Not exactly the same. They changed the Rhino into the Juggernaut for the animation and added Storm, who was not in the 6 issue initial series for instance
The Juggernaut change makes more sense for the dialogue and actions in the series, since the original comic has Rhino talking like an American and killing a rhino with a headbutt... despite him being a Russian who was shown to love animals in a Silver Surfer issue. Not to mention, running through a gauntlet of defenses and shrugging them off was how Juggernaut debuted.
So right after this episode, I read this entire volume digital. Alright story, perhaps it's just not my taste. But I do want to be a continuity Nazi. You see, Radioactive Man DID die. THAT Radioactive Man. This was Igor Stancheck, a character created specifically for this story arc with no explanation to his backstory or who he is. The original Radioactive Man is still alive and kicking. I'm sure that everyone was worried about the fate of everybody's favorite super-villain. You're welcome.
Me too. You know the show first aired in Australia and not the United States? When it was initially shown in America it was on 3am on BET. Hudlin said someone was trying there best to make sure people didn't see it. you could get a Bluray version of the show which made the colors look so much better, form Australia but not in the U.S.A.
My favorite series of Black Panther! This is the series to buy! The current run by Coates sucks! Coates actually said he won't be writing a male power fantasy. I'm like, What the fuck are you writing a superhero comic for especially Black Panther??!!
I only know the “animated” series from BET that they adapted from this, but didn’t Storm appear (introducing the retconned relationship she and T’challa had as kids)?
Thanks for the clarification guys. That explains why her appearance didn’t really amount to anything in the series (that I can remember, it’s been a while since I watched it).
in Civil War, black panther uses the ebony blade against iron man when he tried to make Storm register her powers before meeting the president. Brian Bradock asked t'Challa for the blade back, he said, oh, the one you trued to assassinate me with? No. lol
As one of the three Black knight fans seriously when did he become a member often roman catholic church? He is a Protestant. and is a British superhero with Captian Britain, squire, spitfire, Megan, John the skull and Pete Wisdom. O my god I cant believe i know that
Isn't the panther god just Bast of the Egyptian pantheon? I know Moon Knight has done favors for Black Panther by means of doing a favor for Bast at the word of Khonshu (who is also from the Egyptian pantheon)
Thanks Sal for teaching me the proper use of the word "buttchugging" in everyday conversation. I just wasn't sure how I was supposed to use it! Now I know :)
No Mags can't control vibranium. In fact there was an issue where Black Panther fights Magneto and Magneto says BP suit prevent Mags from simply ripping the iron out of T'challa's blood but he could still use other stuff in the room to kill T'Challa. Of course Tech and prep genius that T'Challa is, BP beats mags.
Are we sure Reginald Hudlin didn't hire a ghost writer for this? I started feeling a strong Garth Ennis vibe outta the story from "sexy Cannibal" onward
Nah. I read Priest run. There was a reason it didn't sell, it was passive aggressive non-sense trying to be cute. I like my Black Panther and his world like Hudlin wrote him and Wakanda. For instance, while Priest invented the Dora Milaje it was Hudlin that aged them up, made them bald and erased any hint of romance between them and the king. It was Hudlin who invented Shuri. It was Hudlin that made Wakanda advanced and unconquered for 10,000 years. It was Hudlin who just wrote stories that were a pleasure to read. To each there own and if you like like Priest well you could say he helped transition the character thematically in Marvel Comic publishing. But for stories, give Hudlin every time.
I liked priest for it showed how an isolated nation like wakanda was with old families and new families powers and how wakandans act by cutting themselves from Africa. Hudlin felt weird especially Storm and black panther then making cap fight too one-sided when originally they were equals. I'm not saying it was bad just some retcons were too much like wakanda not apart of the U.N. Priest just made Wakanda more real to me.
citronm1 Priest run sold quite well actually brought BP back in the limelight. It was the later issues that sales started to go down. Hudlin is way too fantasy in the way he depicted Wakanda. Priest actually showed some turmoil in Wakanda also the implications good and bad of country that is technological advanced but still full culture and farmland tradition.
angel7661 Fair enough Hudlin was decent though, incorporated other marvel characters better. I never forget the part with Apocalypse trying run amuck in Wakanda only to get surprised and wrecked by Black Bolt lol
This story's present is before his first appearance, indicated by Klaw not being that red sound thing person, tho Wolverine and Storm are already X-Men in this, so fuck continuity still
"Who is the Black Panther" was conceived as an out of continuity miniseries. It sold so well that Marvel asked the author, Reginald Hudlin, if he wanted to continue the series and the rest is history.
After it was decided to make it an ongoing series it became part of the regular 616 Marvel Comic Universe. So starting with issue 7, storylines going forward were intended to be part of the normal Marvel universe.
Well, idk, I mean, I just saw some ad treating this story as in continuity, maybe while the author meant one thing, Marvel meant to treat this as a retcon.
I really appreciate you still display the Funko Pops I made for you all. I thought they'd have a short lifespan but that's really cool, I appreciate it a ton!
+I Am Your Target Demographic They're awesome, man. Thank you so much again!
"....I'd like to impose, for the first time ever on Back Issues, a time out...". You guys are great as always; I love it.
59:24 “WATCH OUT, RADIOACTIVE MAN!!!”
youngchief31 UP AND ATOM!!!
Kid Coheed Up and at THEM!!!!
ComicPOP is finally doing my favorite superhero of all time and a whole movie based on him is coming out tomorrow what a time to be alive
"It's like butt chugging, but for possession."
- Sal, 2018
24:30
I can imagine radioactiveman and rhino sharing the pathos of being unable to use the bathroom.
I laughed my ass off when Ben got out on time out. Holy damn, you guys are the best of the best.
Man this episode had everything: Gunthar, Ben in "Timeout", hilariously timed Simpsons references and who could forget the mentioning of "salad tossing". Jiminy Jillikers!!!!
25:21 "Aren't you on time-out?" So much sass from Ethan, lol
Sal's sweater game is on point
"It's a really fast plane
and they say that in the comic
so you can't complain"
Nice rhyme
I f#@king loved this. You're knowledge of this super hero has inspired me to buy my first Black Panther comic book asap.
Ethan is a JRjr drawing confirmed
"The goggles, they do nothing!"
-Radioactive Man
Part of of this book was made into a pretty good 6-episode miniseries. The show was supposed to be longer, but unfortunately was cancelled for reasons I don't remember.
People never start with the superior Christopher Priest.
I'm only halfway through this episode and I've see the first ever Back Issues time out and the return of Gunthar! I love this episode already
PS - 59:23, OMG. I laughed so hard
YES!! Gunthar! I missed you buddy.
Just got back from the movie, crazy good! I've been so excited for this episode!
That laugh at 59:25 lol, love these guys
Can you please upload the "Move the Car, George!" moment from that old Back Issues as a separate video?
I kinda dug this story, based solely on the Back Issues telling but still.. By the way transferring digital information via sound is a real thing, however everything else in that moment of the story about Klau being digitized is pure comic "goodness".
There's a reason I left Radioactive Man and Cannibal out of that sketch I did last week, Sal :) lol Great Back issues guys! #HaveANiceDay
From Ben´s comment, i´ve decide now that Martin Freeman should play Ethan when ComicPOP! The Movie comes out.
Matias Mendoza I have a trilogy's worth of scripts ready for that day and I will write many many more
SimplySam Can you imagine the rest of cast for the movie?? Ryan Reynolds as Ben, Zooey Deschanel as Tiffany and Mark Ruffalo as Sal. Also, Hulk Hogan will play Santa.
Directed by Darren Aronofsky
This episode helped me get through a PAINFULLY boring shift at work. Thanks guys!
`*IN TEARS* WATCH OUT RADIOACTIVE MAN!
I really enjoyed this episode thank you for what you do. Stay classy, Stay Real & Original😁
I've never read a comic with Black Panther, but the trailer for the movie looks bad-ass and I really liked his chase scene in Civil War, so I appreciate the recommendation! Thanks!
Finally I’m surprised and freaking happy to see this
im so glad to see Gunther
This story reminds me of the Black Panther BET mini-series.
John Delorenzo Perfect, so I'm not going crazy, lol
Not exactly the same.
They changed the Rhino into the Juggernaut for the animation and added Storm, who was not in the 6 issue initial series for instance
citronm1 oh okay, that's why I don't remember Rhino from the motion comic.
Reginald Hutton ran bet for a time
The Juggernaut change makes more sense for the dialogue and actions in the series, since the original comic has Rhino talking like an American and killing a rhino with a headbutt... despite him being a Russian who was shown to love animals in a Silver Surfer issue.
Not to mention, running through a gauntlet of defenses and shrugging them off was how Juggernaut debuted.

The original Radioactive Man is still alive and kicking. I'm sure that everyone was worried about the fate of everybody's favorite super-villain. You're welcome.
59:25 best moment in the episode
I knew someone was going to make that reference
This was enjoyable as always, love the jokes and references you guys come up with. Hope everything is going well with you all :)
I really enjoyed the animated/motion-comic adaptation of this. Its OP was super good.
Me too. You know the show first aired in Australia and not the United States?
When it was initially shown in America it was on 3am on BET.
Hudlin said someone was trying there best to make sure people didn't see it.
you could get a Bluray version of the show which made the colors look so much better, form Australia but not in the U.S.A.
I liked the overall story. Some of the dialogue was pretty bad, but I thought the overarching story was decent.
Butt chugging ... sal I love you man
Do you think Klaw was ever like "I'LL GET YOU GADGET-- I MEAN, BLACK PANTHER!!"
NEXT TIME, PANTHER! NEXT TIME!
Ah, Black Panther. One of the few comic book superheroes who can probably make Batman admit he'll lose to him.
Yeah probably.
He's an amazing hero
Not the fans.
My favorite series of Black Panther!
This is the series to buy!
The current run by Coates sucks! Coates actually said he won't be writing a male power fantasy. I'm like, What the fuck are you writing a superhero comic for especially Black Panther??!!
Hey, BP really gave Doom a stern talking too. I'm sure Doom learned his lesson will never kill a member of T'Challa's family again! LOL!
citronm1 Marvel right now going down to toilet
Priest > Any BP writer ever > Coates
I think it's time we get that next volume of Ultimate Spider-Man for Back Issues. At the very least get started on the Superior Spider-Man arcs
John Delorenzo Oh shit, didn't even notice that thanks
RedLightning17 He says it'll come out in April, soooo...
Nah, what we REALLY need is another SAGA episode!
Jovana Samuelsa No thanks. I prefer to support the arts. Then again, I am replying to a robot, so maybe there's something wrong with me.
PriceyYeti40 sometimes it's not about our sanity but about the bots we encounter along the way 😂
I really appreciate you guys doing a Black Panther book. BTW Static is the coolest black comic book character
I only know the “animated” series from BET that they adapted from this, but didn’t Storm appear (introducing the retconned relationship she and T’challa had as kids)?
+BBmetalhead04 They changed it so she could be on the show. No kids in the comics, though.
Well said Kevin.
Thanks for the clarification guys. That explains why her appearance didn’t really amount to anything in the series (that I can remember, it’s been a while since I watched it).
53:20 "I haven't seen my kid in 2 years" Wow what the fuck just happened lol
7th graders Sal? I am a senior in highschool and people still can't learn to shut up
@24:41 First Official Back Issues Timeout
in Civil War, black panther uses the ebony blade against iron man when he tried to make Storm register her powers before meeting the president. Brian Bradock asked t'Challa for the blade back, he said, oh, the one you trued to assassinate me with? No. lol
Black panther had a teleporter also lol..
Got my tickets for Friday
shadow6743 what, no Thursday tickets available?
It's about time, took tall long enough to do this character who's been around since the 60s
Good morning everyone at comic pop and the population at large. Hope all of you are well and safe.
Christopher priest run is still the best.
Big Durk Agree Monica Lynne for the win😁
Supo A yup
It’s a shame Hudlin’s overrated run and Coates garbage run are the only ones anyone knows. These poor kids have no idea what they missed out on.
Always nice to see a Gunthar appearance lol
I loved reading this book happy you covered it
As one of the three Black knight fans seriously when did he become a member often roman catholic church? He is a Protestant. and is a British superhero with Captian Britain, squire, spitfire, Megan, John the skull and Pete Wisdom. O my god I cant believe i know that
Already pre-ordered my tickets. Hyped for the movie and for infinity war.
Oh shit I just realized the Klaw hand congo reference, that’s deep reference by Stan👏🏾👏🏾
When you were talking about the gov sending people into wakanda I was so excited because I thought you were gonna say nuke
Isn't the panther god just Bast of the Egyptian pantheon? I know Moon Knight has done favors for Black Panther by means of doing a favor for Bast at the word of Khonshu (who is also from the Egyptian pantheon)
"There are panthers in the system"
I hope I hear this in the MCU one day. :D
They made a show out of this story, but they switched Rhino for Juggernaut. The theme song was badass.
Jean Claude Van Damme’s nickname is literally “The muscles from Brussels”
Batman + Aquaman = Black Panther
Black Panther, Man Without Fear was my favorite Black Panther run
Thanks Sal for teaching me the proper use of the word "buttchugging" in everyday conversation. I just wasn't sure how I was supposed to use it! Now I know :)
We're changing the world.
Hudlin: Black Panther's my Superman
Me: Static is my Spider-Man, I want to write for him.
DC: Forget about it.
Love this comic
Im stoked it looks boss i can wait
hey sal is sal short for anything
I feel there was a motion comic on Netflix on this comic.
Can magneto manipulate vibranium?
No Mags can't control vibranium.
In fact there was an issue where Black Panther fights Magneto and Magneto says BP suit prevent Mags from simply ripping the iron out of T'challa's blood but he could still use other stuff in the room to kill T'Challa. Of course Tech and prep genius that T'Challa is, BP beats mags.
citronm1 can magic have any effect on vibranium?
Yes. BP relies on things like his "Thrice Blessed Armor" and the Panther God to protect him from mystical threats.
I would pay good money to see Paul Giamatti as Rhino in the Black Panther movie.
Where's the two thumbs up button? Love you comic pop crew.
@comicpop can you please cover when t'challa becomes king of the dead on back issues
Are we sure Reginald Hudlin didn't hire a ghost writer for this?
I started feeling a strong Garth Ennis vibe outta the story from "sexy Cannibal" onward
GUNTHAR! TIME OUTS! SALAD TOSSING! All this and more on the next Back Issues!
I think I like the animated version of this better
Did they do the doom invading wacanda back issues?
the origin seem alot like aquaman and black manta
So Batrok the Leaper learned to Jump Good...
I think BET did a motion animation on this.
Question: does the Rhino have a character?
It took awhile but he really does. He's more sad now.
YAY! GUNTHAR'S BACK!
omg ben your amazing!
As an African American i just have to say...great back issues to do on black history month!
That bein said yall my wiggas lol

citronm1 This want annoys me about Marvel and thier bullshit should've kept it as a standalone
Well, idk, I mean, I just saw some ad treating this story as in continuity, maybe while the author meant one thing, Marvel meant to treat this as a retcon.
"The pope is also the king" - funny story, the pope is actually also the king of vatican! Watch cgp grey's video on vatican... its super interesting!
The panther god Bast is literally just Bast from Egyptian mythology.
Movie?
1:40 I think Blade is cooler.
Isn't Batrock (?) Algerian and not French ? I believe he is. But my comic book memory is not that great
Nah, he's from Marseille.
Ok, we need more characters in this Black Panther book...how about...Black Knight? Sure why not?
There is a surprising large amount of pooping and other butt stuff in this episode, haha
I want for you guys to discuss your pitches for the 💚"Spawn" Cinematic Universe on Comicline
💚For the love of Todd💚
yay black panther
For African american superheroes, Storm, Black Panther, John Stewart GL are my top 3
YAY! Guthar!!!
I dont know if this is in continuity cause Klaw in this is nothing like Klaw anywhere else in comics. :/
I think time out needs to be used more often on Ben! Jks love Ben XD
