I am one of the few defenders of FF13. Yes the combat system was sorely lacking, but it's story is really good. The characters all felt like they were important. Like they needed to be there. They all had good arcs. I also had a lot of fun with 13-2 and Lighting Returns

I think FF13 would have been received much better if it wasn't released as an FF game. If it was a new Title it could be a hidden gem or whatever. But not a bad game overall

Lightning was an awful character, everyone else was pretty good. In fact I'd argue Lightning was a better character in Dissidia 012 then in FF13.
Her range of emotions is pretty good. I also enjoyed the music in FF13 though.

Well, FF13 is not bad game its just not for everyone - and not only because of battle mechanics (which is OK, in my opinion). Me personally didnt like this game too, but its just because its didnt hook me, not because its awful or something.

As far as I know it's a myth that Balthier was supposed to be the main character of FFXII. I think Vaan was chosen from the beginning (by executives, yes). And I do think it would feel less like a FF without Vaan and Penello.

Also, I treat my JRPGS like interactive books. So you could say that writing is literally everything to me. That being said, I can enjoy something ironically if it's badly written. But only if it reaches a certain threshold of "bad". On the other hand, a plot that could otherwise be intriguing to me, could be completely undercut by a few poorly written elements.

People hate fates, through principle. People voted with their money to let nintendo know it wasn't a good idea because, it was a scummy practice to separate the game into three games. They are so similar that they could have made one game. I think people never really got over how cheated they felt when the games were separated. I was able to snag the collectors edition and have all the games on one cartridge but having to buy each separate would have definitely put a sour taste in my mouth as well.

Many of the complaints against FF8 are pretty petty. The fact is that the premise of most Final Fantasy games are odd, but that does not prevent people from liking them. The real problem with FF8 was more likely its draw system and the button mashing with the GF, but I still enjoyed the game over all, and Laguna and friends makes up for pretty much everything anyways.

I don't hate on FF8, I think it's easily got one of the best stories in the Final Fantasy franchise, but I think the junction system needed more work to make it more balanced. I remember finding the Triple - Speed junction, and after that most enemies never got a turn in.

Oooh that Tales of Symphonia 2 take was something, and whereas I don’t hate the game I have a lot of issues that add up, 1: The story was alright but nothing crazy, the new characters were only okay, but how they treated the original cast was really what did it for me, as someone who would still say the original Symphonia is an absolute masterpiece it just felt meh. I wish it was better and something that I really enjoyed. I’ve thought of some interesting fan fiction writing idea with the Tales series and I’d love to write how I would have told the story.

I can certainly understand why people hate it, and maybe I'm biased since it was my first ever Final Fantasy game, but I have quite fond memories of it. Even find myself going back and playing it every now and again, though not too much these days with how much of a back log I have.

I didn't hate Tales of Zestiria, but I was disappointed by it. Firstly, it struck me as rather short - I reached the end and thought "is that it?" Secondly, because the pseudo open world places some fairly tight restrictions on travel at times, so I wound up finishing the game with several side quests unfinished - not because my party was incapable, but because the game wouldn't let me go where I needed to go to finish. Finally, because while I started off enjoying the battle system, they kept layering on additional systems to the point where I gave up and just switched all my characters to auto. Since the combat was always the main plus point for the series for me, that was very disappointing.
Of the other games you mention, the ones I've played I've mostly enjoyed. There are MUCH worse JRPGs out there.

Symphonia 2 is just a huge dungheap smeared over the legacy of 1. It even taunts you and spits you in the face by showing you actual characters that you love but cant play as npcs every now and then. Theres 2 things that are better, Animations of characters and the battle system itself flows better. Everything else is horrible or plagued by obvious budget issues because Vesperia got all the development moneys, especially the male main character. This game is legitimately the first game ever and since that made me ragequit because of a character in it and i played several thousands. I did ragequit after like 2 hours and didnt play the game for 3 years because of that braindead whiny bastard. I picked it up again on the PS3 because im a Trophy/Achievemnt whore and i admit that the last few (2~3) hours or so in the game get a lot better but the whole experience is just a cruel joke for most people that played 1. It was basically the same EA does with all their Sports franchises, rerelease older games with cut out features but slightly better graphics and see the peasants squirm after they wasted their money for a shitty low budget product.

Honestly, Zestiria is easily one of the most overhated Tales games. Sure, it had its flaws, but it was still a lot of fun, and the cast was some of the most endearing Tales casts I've come across. Also people call this the worst while forgetting about the atrocity that was Tempest or the trainwreck that was Graces F's story (even if its gameplay was awesome.).

I got Zestiria in Japanese when it first came out, I was dissapointed because of 4 simple reasons(from weakest to strongest):
1- Graphic was pixelated, yes, a PS3 with PIXELATED graphic, are you kidding me?
2- Awful camera during combat, often the camera get obscured by objects and you can't control it at all so basically you'll be fighting in the blind. The idea of "on the spot battle" is cool, but at least think about the walls
3- Sorey has ZERO to NONE personality, he might as well stay mute and nobody would notice any difference
4- Absolutely force story change/twist, yes I'm talking about Alisha being kicked permanently from the party and you can still buy her gears later in the game which shows how the change was an unexpected rush job. Even voice actress of Rose apologized and thanked fans for not hating her because how all of sudden the entire game warps around Rose.
Most Tales fans play TO series for the characters interactions and TOZ totally ruined it.

Fates is one of my favorite FE games....and I know a lot of "hardcore" fans hate me for saying this but it's in part due to the Phoenix Mode. I care more about story & characters than the intense challenge, so I had a lot of fun playing through Fates. I even enjoyed the story ( I have the physical copy of Birthright, but I have yet to get Conquest & Revelations ).
It's actually Ashe was meant to be FFXII's protagonist not Basch....and I'm actually one of the fans who loved X-2 ( the music, classic ATB battle system and Dress sphere job system were amazing IMO ). I enjoy XII as well, but man that license grid was taken a few steps too far IMO.
I had trouble getting that into Zesteria, but I don't hate it. Frankly IMO the worst Tales of games are Dawn of the New World, Xillia 2 and the Tales of the World spin-offs. Main reason I didn't like Dawn of the New World was that I just didn't care for the monster catching system ( I didn't mind Emille himself, and I love that he's voiced by Johnny Bosch ) but the Wii controls were terrible ( I bought the PS3 HD ports but haven't gotten around to downloading/installing them yet )
Suikoden IV is a fun game....III on the other hand, has the WORST army battles in the series ( though I can't speak for V or Tierkreis ) which makes me hate it slightly....
a few I love but a lot of people seem to hate:
Pokemon gens 6 & 7 ( seriously, hating the games for being "too easy" is just a stupid reason especially for a Pokemon game )
Final Fantasy XIII-2 ( it made all the right improvements on XIII's gameplay and it was fun....still has problems but not bad )
Valkyrie Profile 2: Silmeria ( at least I think it's hated, given that people only ever seem to talk about the original... )
Grandia III ( I just enjoyed it, never understood the hate it gets )

re chain is so addictive once you begin to understand the card system. most people want games to be simple and hold your hand so when a game like that comes along and requires some thought and patience to learn, they give up on it before really giving it a chance. of course everyone loves kh3 and imo kh3 is complete garbage compared to re chain, the story, combat, and even the voice acting in re chain are far superior to kh3, but 3 is easy and simple so it's loved by the majority.

  • @RyeAkai

    My experience with these games:
Star Ocean 4: Played like 6 hours or something like that back in the PS3. I remember a lot of hate in the dub, and I felt it was very well deserved, but PS3 had japanese so no biggie for me. I do remember not liking the camera angles while exploring. Other than that, I really had no problem with the characters so far and I always loved SO battle system. I've been meaning to play this again in the PS4 remaster version. It would have to be incredibly great to surpass SO3 in my eyes though, but I'm confident I'll enjoy playing it again.
Shadow Hearts 3: I have a confession: I've never played the Shadow Hearts franchise.
Tales of Legendia: This game is amazing! Still the best OST of all the Tales franchise, an overall great cast of character and a very enjoyable story. Graphics were mediocre for its time, sure, and dungeon design was pretty much awful (I remember finishing a battle and always wondering in which direction was I going). Fuck Shirley though. Seriously, fuck Shirley. Still a beloved Tales for me.
Stella Deus: Never played this one. Looks like a game I would enjoy.
Mimana: Sorry, I have to count myself among people who didn't really enjoy it that much. Can't say it was really good. I don't "hate" it and I actually did have a degree of fun with its cliché story and its characters, but the gameplay was pretty damn bad. I remember the battle system was really flawed.
Suikoden 4: This game is great. It's still a Suikoden and I love it. Boat travelling was kinda bad but the story was really good even if short and the Suikoden system is always a joy. It was also a problem having just 3 fighters in a game with so many playable characters. True, I'd rather play 1, 2, 3 or 5, but that does not make Suikoden IV bad, the others are just incredibly good. And yes, Suikoden V is arguably the best Suikoden for me too, though I admit the most famous Suikoden II is also freaking amazing, so it's a bit of a toss-up for me.
Final Fantasy XII: It's not among my favorite FF games, but I don't consider it the killer of the franchise either. That goes to FFXIII. I never really liked the main characters too much, except Balthier maybe, and that in itself is a huge hit. The gambit system quickly became a bit too abusable for me, but it was very creative and I could still applaud it. While I didn't really like the characters, I did love the Ivalice setting and the story of the game. And even to this day, I think this game is looks beautiful. Music is on point too, but that's a given even today with FF.
Tales of Zestiria: I admit I was convinced against playing the game here. Lots of people that enjoy the franchise talked me really bad about Zestiria, so I never gave it any priority. I did watch the anime as a follow-up after playing Berseria. I actually have the game, but like I said, never been a priority to play so far.
Tales of Symphonia 2: I will start by saying I like Symphonia 1, but it's probably not on my top 5 Tales game. Maybe because of this, I actually still haven't played the sequel.
Fire Emblem Corrin: I can agree with this opinion. I consider it the worst in the franchise because I didn't like characters, world or story really. But the game is still a Fire Emblem and the gameplay is still a Fire Emblem, which is something I will always enjoy. Also, I think Fire Emblem has never been the epitome of storytelling really, the problem is that we didn't have the likeable characters here.

Good list! I agree with you on Tales of Legendia. It is an underrated masterpiece! The character development is some of the best I've ever seen. Every character you play as fights differently, which allows the player to keep the battles fresh. The music is sensational! You'll find yourself humming the tunes when you're not playing the game. There is so much depth to the story and it's characters, giving the player such an emotional connection to it all.
To add a game that I liked and everyone else hated, it is The Last Remnant. I know you gave up on this game Eric, but if you level up your party early in the game and balance the teams with effective healers and brawlers, you'll breeze through most of the game. There are also characters you can recruit later in the game that contribute substantially in battles.

Hi, Eric. First of all, I really like your videos. Keep up the good work that you already been doing.
I'm from Brazil and if my english fails at one point of this comment, please forgive me. hahahahah
I haven't played all of the games that are on this list, but I will comment on those that I didn't like that much. (hate is a really strong word hahahah)
Shadow Hearts FTNW: This is really the weakest game of the franchise, but I agree with you. It's not that bad and I didn't knew that this game is hated so much. The only reason I can think of is the main protagonist. Yuri has a really strong presence and charisma and the protagonist of this game is not that badass.
Tales of Legendia: MAN, I really didn't like this game. For me, it's the worst of all series. The story is good until the middle of the game, afterwards it's annoying and tedious. The characters are good and really have personality. I think that this is the only thing that kept me in the game until the end. The battle system it's the worst. Really repetitive and that "special bar" it's not really helpfull. This game doesn't have mystical artes and for a Tales games it's important, IMO.
Suikoden IV: The only suikoden that I didn't like. This game it's really terrible. The protagonist isn't charismatic at all. When he walks it's like he's pooped and forget to clean himself. The story is shit and doesn't even compare do suikoden 2, 3 or 5. Everything in this game is bad hahahahahhaha
Final Fantasy XII: I don't hate or dislike this game. I think that the game is very fun and really good. The reason people hate this game, I think it's because of some factors. First, some characters are really annoying, like Vaan or Penelo... The villain is the worst villain in all series. Seriously, all the judges are more villain than him. The story is not that good too, for a final fantasy game. So I think these are the things that people dislike in this game.
P.S. Final Fantasy XIII it's soooo good, I will watch your video to try to understand why you hate it so much.
Tales of Zestiria: The second worst tales for me. Berseria is SO superior in ALL WAYS. First of all, for me, the story in this game it's really not impressive. The plot it's too much linear, I've waited for things that blew me away, but didn't happen. I've missed character development too. Berseria has a lot of that, the characters there are way more interesting than in this game. So, for me, zestiria was a fun game to play, but in the end, it's only the second worst game of series for me.
And that's it. Hope you can understand what I tried to say on every game.
    Have a nice day. o/

I discovered your channel recently. Very nice show! I love jrpg as you do and I think it is always good to have someone remembering the new generations about real good games. As for this video, I agree with you especially with star ocean 4. Solid game, maybe the story is simplistic, but I had hella fun with it. Final fantasy XII on the other hand, I feel like the hate is legit. I have fun with ff xii, a lot of fun, the gamplay is solid. Probably one of the best gamplay system in the entire series, but I really hated the writing. The plot was very promising and interesting, but the lack of dialogues and direction ruined it.

I am two years late, but who cares? I'm happy you put Tales of Zestiria on here, because that game was actually my entry into the Tales series, and I love it. I really don't understand the hate for this game. It's amazing - I'll admit the cutscenes are a bit slow and awkward, and while it does feel like you move very slowly at first, you're actually moving faster than you think if you look at the map and follow your icon. I also know Eizen is in Berseria, which I plan to play once I finish Zestiria (which I haven't gotten around to cause I didn't have a computer for a while - I got the Steam versions), and I'm definitely excited for that.
As a side note, I also grabbed Tales of Symphonia while it was listed at $4.99 during the Steam Summer Sale, and I'm loving that game too. I definitely want Tales of Vesperia, as well as the two Tales of Xillia games (if I can ever find a way to get them without having to buy a PS3, I might have to settle for watching playthroughs unfortunately). I actually even pre-registered for Tales of Crestoria on mobile, and it just got installed today so I'm absolutely gonna play that when it officially launches - the beta gameplay I watched has already made me invested in the story.

I actually *really* like the Zestiria combat. It's other elements that compare poorly against other Tales games for me. The story constantly rehashes the same simple themes without much plot development, the towns feel hollow with no real NPC characters and no buildings to enter, and the dungeons barely have enough design to count as dungeons. Berseria very clearly recognized these issues and went at least some ways in righting them, although I still prefer Zestiria's combat.

Okay so for me... A game that is mediocre in every category... Is actually LESS enjoyable then a game that is "bad" in every category.
Zesteria could have been great, but did not take enough risk with its plot. Especially during the ending, holy cow. Everybody gets a happy ending? Nobody dies? And what was with the lack of philosophical/idealogical themes throughout the story? They could have easily pushed an idealogical battle between hope and existentialism. It's like the story writer didn't have a goal to work towards.

I didn't enjoy Zestiria because they frames in combat fluctuated way too frequently on top of the camera angles it gives you, sometimes clips into walls so you have no idea what you're doing. Also the armortize feature you could whip that out like every fight and spam so there wasn't too much point in learning combos outside of it, like not fused with seraphim even if you got the hang of making a combo you did a considerable less amount compared to being combined with seraphim. Armortize was fairly strong and easy to utilize so you kinda get pranked it you try playing 4 player. The characters for me personally weren't anything too insane what really did it for me is the one character i kinda liked for combat leaves part way through game Alisha so i didn't have the urge to keep playing as much. Sorey and Mikleo have like the same personality and i find them both annoying ''let's explore this dungeon or we needa help cause we're the heros and we can't fail attitude. Alisha wasn't too much different in hey we needa help everyone.
Story is pretty predictable defeat the malevolence because it's evil wow insane lore. ik Sorey picks up like late late game on how he acts, but he was bland as a character for a large majority of the game. I could probably keep going, but i adore Tales of Series and personally this game was my least favorite entry. Berseria though they amped up that game it was grand in comparison as a prequel.

Didn't a lot of the negativity for Tales of Zestiria come because the advertising propped up Alicia, a character who left part way through the game and was replaced by someone who wasn't really advertised?

    • @FM-fi4uy
      @FM-fi4uy 4 года назад

yes. alishia meant to be the game’s heroine and is one of the earliest characters to join your group, but is abruptly removed from the party for no justifiable reason. She doesn’t die, she isn’t just injured in the line of duty. She just… leaves. Then there’s the fact that her replacement-a character that is introduced several hours into the game-is somehow more important and valuable to the party in the grand scheme of things.

    • @andronikoswendsofchange1151
      @andronikoswendsofchange1151 4 года назад

@@FM-fi4uy Yeah, I've played and beaten the game. It was a reason that could have either been written out or turned into a situation that needed to be resolved (like finding an item, getting a blessing, or seeking out a trainer to help her handle the strain of being connected with the spirits). Alicia was a more interesting character than the girl who replaced her.

My favorite JRPG game that everyone hates is Wild Arms 2. My biggest issue with the game is a large lack of heal berries (Mystic FP is basically moot without healing items) which make the Diablo Pillars extra unforgiving. Otherwise, I absolutely love the story, characters, world, and especially Michiko Naruke's music. Wild Arms 2 is her best work, in my opinion.

Comparing your two videos; this one and the one where you hate 10 games others love - your metric is extremely arbitrary to the point where it doesn't make much sense. On this list you "like" a game because it's playable at all, on the other list you say you like almost everything about some game but not as much as others and therefore you dislike it (?). My point is that the format make little sense for these videos.

  • @glorkbork776

I like Legendia, it went back to the linear battle system that I personally prefer from the older Tales games, having the grappler be the main character was an odd choice, but as you say, about half an hour into the game you get a standard sword user anyway, and the fact that the typical JRPG defeat God and avert the apocalypse plot is basically over at the halfway point of the game is refreshing.

People hate a certain game either because of mob mentality rather than trying to see it on their own before or those who perfectionist wherein one flaw for them immediately makes the game terrible.
I think games are great. Even if people hate them, it is just a matter if one can accept the flaw and appreciate the wholeness of the game. Even a flaw can be a charm in itself to certain people.
By the way, awesome video again, it was a pleasure to watch. I like how you say bullshit about characters you hate =).

On the topic of the child characters, in awakening it did make sense for the child characters as we did see the beginning of the end of Lucina's timeline at the very beginning of the game, and if your world is so far gone to the point of no return, then it would make sense to change the past to save the future. The children characters made sense in Awakening from a narrative stand point, even if time travel plots rarely make sense to begin with. Fates only brought in the Children characters to appeal to Awakening fans, and failed horribly. They literally had no reason to be there and their reason why they can be recruited made no sense at all. In the end hardly anybody liked their inclusion as a result and made me wonder if Owain and Inigo's daughters could have replaced them and nothing would have changed. In the end, I do agree that while it is one of the weaker titles in Fire Emblem, as a game in it's own right, is still a somewhat decent title.

I think a lot of these games are less that people "hate" them but that they didn't live up to expectations. They were followups to genre classics that just didn't do well such as Shadow Hearts FTNW and Legendia. Games that are great in their own right, but I think people played them and were like "what? this is the next in the series?" and were taken aback. I think if people went back and played them again they'd enjoy them. As for Legendia, I have some issues with it but think it's a good game overall. I wish there were more towns, but I understand that to accomplish what they wanted to do that wouldn't play with the story well.

Everybody hates Quest 64 but I don't. It was just a very basic RPG for kids. Walking out of your house and into an open world blew my mind back then.
For the most part I loved FF 12, the music is wonderful, the world is beautiful, loved the gambit system, loved seeing the enemies and the feel of it being like single player mmorpg, but I never finished it. The grinding tired me out but what did me was that I got what was apparently a rare drop and then I died without saving it and I wasn't able to get it again. Didn't rage quit, just sort of lost my spirit and never picked it up again. I can't comment on the characters, but I was liking Balthier but kinda hated Vaan. I agree with you on a few of these, as most I haven’t played yet, but this video makes me want to give them a shot. Tales of Zestiria was my first tales game so maybe that’s why I liked it because I didn’t have anything to compare it to, but it had a nice story, and good characters, nothing I’ve never seen before but a charming game for sure. I actually loved fire emblem conquest and birthright and thought they were great games. I understand the criticisms as conquest and birthright have very similar stories and end goals, and you have to pay extra for revelations to get the “true ending” but the characters, more specifically your siblings in each games are fantastic, and of course the game play was great like in any other fire emblem game. Great video Erick and I’m looking forward to the next list!

A big part of why Zestiria has such a bad reputation, aside from being pretty unpolished in a lot of ways presumably due to too much dev happening in too short a timeframe (they wanted to get it out as a 20th anniversary thing for the Tales series, and they brought in a LOT of new ideas / engine overhaul stuff at the same time, so they didn't have time to REALLY make it all work as well as it could have), is that the marketing for it made people assume Alisha would be a main character & in reality we got Rose for most of the game instead!
This was more of an issue in the JPN market (this is easiest to see in the amazon reviews for this game, of all things, lol), but I've definitely seen places where it kinda bled over into the western audience's perception. People calling it a bait-and-switch or sometimes DLC bait (since Alisha did get a DLC), stuff like that.
I do think it being so rough around the edges is probably a bigger culprit, especially for the western audience, but I thought it was fascinating that people had so much of a problem with Rose! She's one of my favorite characters in any media at all, tbh--although at least PART of that is definitely thanks to the awesome localization & voice direction she got in English.

I've always loved Suikoden IV and never understood the massive hate for it. For sure, it's not the best in the series, but it's still a good game. The main character is a little bland, and the world map encounter rate is too high - but other than that it's just classic Suikoden goodness.
As for Tales of Zestiria, I was a little disappointed with this game when it came out, but I agree that it's by no means bad. I think it's only real flaw is being a "decent" entry in the series, coming out after 3 - 4 BRILLIANT games (Vesperia, Abyss, Symphonia, Xillia) and this makes it seem worse than it is in comparison.

In further defense of FF12, it's indeed super long (beat it after 112 hrs), but the macros/gambits are meant to shorten battle time so it's a good trade off. On the protagonist choice, people are getting tired of heroes with superman-like qualities that Hollywood so often portrays, so a low-key main character who allows the supporting cast to shine is actually a breath of fresh air. But that's just my opinion.

This is more of an issue that I have with other older games as well, to be fair. Anyways, I think Legendia is great. I'd like it a lot more if we got an enhanced port with some streamlining and better cutscenes, if possible. Edge Maverick - Just the Name is enough to hate this Game XD Also i am Happy People hates Zestiria, the Story was unbelievable Generic, the Travel System was abysmal (cost Money!) and the Direction was really weak. Berseria makes ALMOST EVERYTHING better :D But i Agree by Symphonia 1 and 2 - 1 is overrated, and 2 is for me clear better

I'm playing Tales of Zestiria at the moment as my first Tales game. What's different about it that's controversial amongst fans? My view coming into it completely uninitiated is that it's ok, I'm having fun, but it feels a bit low budget, a bit cliched in terms of story and the battle system is really poorly explained (it bombards you with text about the mechanics early on rather than easing you in or demonstrating them). Are those things particular to this game or are they fair criticisms of the series as a whole?

Have you ever played Dragon Quest Builders, White Knight Chronicles, or Ni No Kuni? I haven't tried those yet, so I was wondering if you ever mentioned them in any of your videos.

I haven't played DQ Builders. The other 2, I have. For Ni No Kuni, there's a counterpart video to this one, called the opposite: Top 10 JRPGs everybody loves but I don't. You'll see it there. As for WKC, I've played it and it's amazing, very good, but also very short, that is its only downfall, other than that, it's great.

Any Star Ocean game after Star Ocean 3 can't be good because Star Ocean 3 jumped the shark and revealed that the entire Star Ocean universe is just a simulated TV show for the real universe. Impossible for me to care about the series after that.

Tales of Legendia: In which a 36 year old man is called old, everyone else is an angsty teenager, and a body builder stinks at physical damage. Three of the worst things about JRPGs in one game. Oh, and the femme fetale is a glass cannon.
FF XII: Well, at least its "T-Rexaur!!!" is actually threatening.

Tales of zestiria wasn't really a bad game. the story was pretty good from what it was. Most hatefull issue I had with zestiria was that literally most of the time during battles attacks were literally NULLIFIED especially during key moments (Final boss which always resulted me in instant KO so that's what made it terribly frustrating). also during the story it didn't properly show which way you had to go to proceed with the main storyline.

Suikoden IV was the first, and only game in the franchise that I've every played and I absolutely loved it. Never finished it, as I was only able to rent it way back when. Also, I'll argue that Breath of Fire Dragon Quarter might have ACTUALLY killed the franchise

I love the Tales series and like Legendia a lot. Without a doubt it has the best soundtrack out of any other game in the entire series. I loved how the MC didn't use a sword and how the second arc of the story was back story for everybody; I really appreciate that. Only annoying bit was the random battles

    Hi Erick.
First off, I absolutely agree about FF12, Tales of Zestiria, and Star Ocean 4, people are far too harsh on those games for being departures from the norm.
In Suikoden 4 I actually enjoyed the navel battles more than the standard combat, which is a big reason why I dislike that game, but the biggest reason is I just plain hate the protagonist's shorts lol
That's honestly my reason, had they just gone below the knee it would have made exploration more palatable for me lol
As for Tales of Legendia, the relationship between the main character and his sister made me incredibly uncomfortable, so I just couldn't get into the story with that looming overhead.
And Shadow Hearts: From the New World was just boring.
They interspersed wackiness to break up the monotony a bit, but they clearly made the wrong assumptions about what people liked in the first two games and took From the New World in a strange direction that was very difficult to acclimate to.
The other games I haven't played, so I have no opinion either way.
    Keep up the good work!

That's how I played Legendia too! I realized I couldn't use Senel well, switched to Chloe, and had few problems! Namely, every time she wasn't in the party!
I honestly want Legendia to get a Remake. It would smooth out the battle system a bit, and maybe balance the Eres drops a bit more (which was my only real big problem...though knowing me I was just getting super unlucky and other people didn't have to wail on enemies for hours to learn their spells). I'd scream with delight and preorder it as soon as possible.

My hate for Tales of zestiria comes from the stupid weapon-skill system.
Find a weapon/armor/accessory that has great skills? luck finding that same skill(s) in the same slots in the same weapon/armor/accessory over and over and over again to upgrade it several times.

Sure that part was annoying, but it’s not enough to ruin the game.

Ff12 is kinda ahead of its time. Upon release, not a whole lot of games play like it outside of the mmorpg. Although I don't recall anyone hating the game then, maybe dislike, but hating is a little much.
