Hello from Perth. May I suggest trying this as fries food: a boiled egg, separate the yolk and tehn freeze it up. You will only need to take it out of freezer and than is enogh the tiny amount on yolk left on your fingers. Dip teh fingers and you will see a small cloud. The fries will enjoy eating the tiny bits of yolk. You need to use VERY little as it cotaminates the water. I hope this helps, Razvan

Yes I think so too, I lost my Amber marmalade cat a couple of years ago she was 16, thanks to you I now have the courage to get some fry in my patio pond 😊

rice fishes are easy to take care, I had mine in big wash basin, and gradually change the water for once per 2 days (I had water plant inside the water). actually you can just leave the babies/fry and they would grow by themselves, if you disturb them it will cause stress for other fishes too. Don't worry abt the adults one, if you give enough food, they won't eat the fry.
When I change water in my fry tank, I use a baster and squeeze the water into another bowl. Once I’m done, I take a couple of minutes to examine the bowl and make sure I didn’t accidentally pick any fry up. Then I dispose of the old water. I hope this tip helps!
Thanks for sharing your tip! I squeezed the water into a plastic ice cream container (clean & washed), and checked if I accidentally picked up any fry. But the container was dark colour, so I might have missed them, also I probably didn't wait long enough time for the water in the container to settle. Thank you! I appreciate your tip!
I watched your original video how you created this it's so pretty and beautiful I want to put some pond plants on my tiny deck but afraid it will leak. Good idea to put the fry in another bowl to keep them from being eaten. I love how you call them your babies this makes me happy that you care so much. ❤🌱I have subscribed to watch more! You should definitely use sponger filters with fry when you're switching them to those smaller containers like the vase you used. The sponge filter will provide water filtration, movement, and aeration. This will increase the amount of fry that live to adulthood.
I did most of the things that you did with my very first batch of fry. I was fully prepared to lose a lot of them in the first two weeks since I am very inexperienced. Somehow I ended up with 80-90 fry and three weeks later they all seem to be doing great even though my water looked murky and smelled concerning at times because I fed them a lot - sometimes it’s just bad luck - or dumb luck in my case 😅

I think my comment jinxed it! 😭 I was past the 3 week mark so I felt pretty confident but after putting them outside in their own mini pond my numbers are dwindling…within a week and a half I’ve gone from 85 to maybe 15!!😦 And I have no idea what’s causing it…I don’t see any dead fish either. Birds or maybe dragonfly larvae eating them? Do they just dissolve? so confused and dismayed right now 😞
How old or how big are your fry? Tiny fry quite often can’t handle sudden environmental changes. The fry are very delicate. Is your outside pond well established? Is the water too hot outside? If the water is too clean, there maybe not enough food in the pond. For them, microbes are easier to eat than powder food. As you mentioned, it could be dragonfly nymphs causing the problem. They eat rice fish. If your fish are small, it’s hard to see the dead fish as they are easy to dissolve in the water. Sorry, I can’t tell what’s causing the problem, there can be so many different reasons. Hope you can save some of your fry… 🙏

You can keep them with gentle fish and creatures such as snails and shrimps. In addition, you need to plant more wild aquatic plants in the wild such as horn wort, water clover,... Add a few dry leaves to create a habitat similar to the natural environment and it will decompose decompose into humus and combine with fish excrement as a source of nutrients for plants even though they do not need soil.

I am thinking about making a video about this Japanese garden as my next video. Thank you for your compliment of the bamboo fountain. Actually, I struggled to make it. I was planning to make one with a traditional way, but my husband (he used to be a industrial design technology teacher) said the traditional way is not so durable and suggested to use some metal plumbing pipes inside of the bamboo. It became too complicated in the end, so he ended up using his power tools to make it...😅😅😅 Hope to see you in my next video. xxx
I was just going to suggest egg yolk and your video then showed you were already on it hahaha. Just so you know, you can smash the egg yolk into water to dilute for fry food after next spawning. The fry can get their nutrients from this diluted mixture. Obviously very small amounts. Looks like your fish journey is going well.

They may still have ricefish. I give you their website. madaquariums.com.au/ My friend recommended to ring them before you go to make sure they have the fish because rice fish are popular and sold quickly. I found my ones from Gumtree. You can check Gumtree as well. Hope you can get your fish 🐟

My pond is fishless and mostly water lilies and micro lotuses but there are dozens of baby snails eating algae and filtering the water. Maybe am I doing mistakes too? 😀

I just have some rice fish hatched and found your video! what's your suggestion on fry food? and when I should start feeding them? I didn't have time to prepare green water, and they're already hatched to my surprised! (they're only 1 day old!)
Congratulations on your new fry! Rice fish fry is born with yolk sack which provides the fish nutrition to survive for about 2 days. After that they start eating food. In the nature, they can find some plant/animal plankton but if you have them in clear water, they need some food. I've just received a comment from this video viewer yesterday to suggest me what to feel the fry. I haven't tried it yet, but it said that feeding boiled egg yolk is good. But very small amount that it sticks on your fingers. Apparently you can store the could egg’s yolk in the freezer as well. But if you feed them too much, it contaminate water, so very small amount. In Japan, there are so many products for rice fish, like powder to make green water, fry food (plankton) etc, but I can't get them here.😞 Good luck with your fry💕
Don't try to catch paramecium because they are very small, instead cut a few slices of cucumber and lettuce into a container of water and leave for 3-4 days, at this time the cucumber and lettuce will hydrolyzed and produce paramcium and some other species, in the process you should check often in the evening with a flashlight to make sure they are there.

Make sure all the cucumber and lettuce slices have sunk, then go to a dark enough place and shine a flashlight in the container and the creature will be attracted to the light. you just pipette and suck them to make food for the fry (I'm really sorry I use google translate so there will be some typos).

I think my comment jinxed it! 😭 I was past the 3 week mark so I felt pretty confident but after putting them outside in their own mini pond my numbers are dwindling…within a week and a half I’ve gone from 85 to maybe 15!!😦 And I have no idea what’s causing it…I don’t see any dead fish either. Birds or maybe dragonfly larvae eating them? Do they just dissolve? so confused and dismayed right now 😞
How old or how big are your fry? Tiny fry quite often can’t handle sudden environmental changes. The fry are very delicate. Is your outside pond well established? Is the water too hot outside? If the water is too clean, there maybe not enough food in the pond. For them, microbes are easier to eat than powder food.
As you mentioned, it could be dragonfly nymphs causing the problem. They eat rice fish.
If your fish are small, it’s hard to see the dead fish as they are easy to dissolve in the water. Sorry, I can’t tell what’s causing the problem, there can be so many different reasons. Hope you can save some of your fry… 🙏

I am thinking about making a video about this Japanese garden as my next video. Thank you for your compliment of the bamboo fountain. Actually, I struggled to make it. I was planning to make one with a traditional way, but my husband (he used to be a industrial design technology teacher) said the traditional way is not so durable and suggested to use some metal plumbing pipes inside of the bamboo. It became too complicated in the end, so he ended up using his power tools to make it...😅😅😅 Hope to see you in my next video. xxx

I was just going to suggest egg yolk and your video then showed you were already on it hahaha. Just so you know, you can smash the egg yolk into water to dilute for fry food after next spawning. The fry can get their nutrients from this diluted mixture. Obviously very small amounts. Looks like your fish journey is going well.

Just found your channel and subscribed, nice stuff! I am currently working on my pond so this helped lots :-) Why do you want to keep the snails away? My pond is fishless and mostly water lilies and micro lotuses but there are dozens of baby snails eating algae and filtering the water. Maybe am I doing mistakes too? 😀

I just have some rice fish hatched and found your video! what's your suggestion on fry food? and when I should start feeding them? I didn't have time to prepare green water, and they're already hatched to my surprised! (they're only 1 day old!)
Congratulations on your new fry! Rice fish fry is born with yolk sack which provides the fish nutrition to survive for about 2 days. After that they start eating food. In the nature, they can find some plant/animal plankton but if you have them in clear water, they need some food. I've just received a comment from this video viewer yesterday to suggest me what to feel the fry. I haven't tried it yet, but it said that feeding boiled egg yolk is good. But very small amount that it sticks on your fingers. Apparently you can store the could egg’s yolk in the freezer as well. But if you feed them too much, it contaminate water, so very small amount. In Japan, there are so many products for rice fish, like powder to make green water, fry food (plankton) etc, but I can't get them here.😞 Good luck with your fry💕

Make sure all the cucumber and lettuce slices have sunk, then go to a dark enough place and shine a flashlight in the container and the creature will be attracted to the light. you just pipette and suck them to make food for the fry (I'm really sorry I use google translate so there will be some typos).
