Good stuff, Ryo! I think Japanese Rice Fish is a market that people are very interested in but there's not a lot of information about outside of Japan. Educate us more on medaka!
Hello, wishing you well. I’m in USA and have been looking at rice fish for awhile. They are so cute 🥰 I’m so in love. I’m having a hard time finding breeders out here. Do you sell them ?… or even better ship to USA? I’m remodeling my home and think they would be an awesome addition. Please let me know 🙏🏽
@@elizabethgrant5194 there are sellers online that sell medaka and will ship it to you. I found mine a fish store near me that sold medaka by calling around. Good luck hope you find some.
I found some sparkly silver-blue medaka near me in the US and I was pumped! They were outrageously expensive and hard to find online. I have them in a cystal vase with loads of plants. When I can I stick it in an open window for direct sun, they start breeding so I think they like it. Thanks again for your videos, never would've known these guys existed without them!

Hey, Ryo! Thank you from Seattle, WA. My wife and I just scored five platinum(?) Medaka for cheap ($5 ea vs. $65+ on ebay) for our paludarium and we're in love. Your video is so helpful-- now we're off to make a porch bowl pond!
Your rice fish bowls are so nice! I live in Athens, GA, (US). Been trying to find rice fish at my local stores and even Atlanta. No one carries them! I've found them online, but they are expensive - $8 -20 each! Yes, would like to see a tour of the rice fish breeding area.
Hello from Scotland, i have just found your video, im going to be setting up a patio pond tommorrow and i was looking for ideas, these little rice fish are fantastic , i keep white cloud mountain minnows & goldfish, im going to see if i can get rice fish for my wee mini pond now after watching your video if their available in my country cheers, yeti 🏴
I just started keeping medaka for the first time this year. The climate is more extreme where I live. Winters are cold enough that ponds will freeze solid. So I have to bring my ricefish indoors. In regards to higher temperatures - during the summer, my ricefish tolerated the higher temperatures, but if the water temperature was above 78F/25C, the eggs would fungus before the fry could hatch. Next summer, I plan to set up the outdoor ricefish pond in a more shaded area.
Yay! A Medaka video! Here in the states we call them container ponds😀 We have some crazy prices for medaka here but I got my Blue Miyuki Medaka for free from a friend. I like those really red ones as well. Great video Ryo! Please do one on the Medaka farm. Some day I would like to see a Medaka farm for my self. My family and I were talking about where we are going to go first once we are vaccinated. Japan, Singapore, and Hawaii were high on the list. Cheers, Chris
Hi: You can use the 2-3 day method to dechlorinate if your water has only chlorine in it. However it’s common now for many municipalities to use chloramine which does not dissipate like chlorine and you need a chemical dechlorinator to get rid of it.
G’day Ryo, thanks to your ricefish vids I got inspired & setup my own bowl pond. The planted setup is going super and I love it. I want to setup more. Cheers mate. 🌱
I kinda gave up breeding my orange medaka in a tub so I moved to a tank so I can observe them better. After a few days I noticed fry in the tub! I have 7 or 8 fry that made it, they are getting pretty big now. I still have 7 of the adults so I hope to get more fry from them.
So glad to hear that :) They'll definitely lay their egg in the roots of the hyacinth and you should be able to get more fish if you separate the hyacinth from the adults

Do you have to have filters and air pumps in the bottom of those ceramic planters? And how big do those pots have to be?
They can be any size you want. The bigger, the better as smaller size tends to get dirty quicker. Ricefish don’t require filter and air pumps :)

Hey, I know its a kinda old video but wanted to ask, at 12:00, what is the name of this plant on this mini pond? is it hydrocotyle Verticillata or some kind of a peperomia? it looks amazing.
btw I love your videos and they are really inspiring/helpful on keeping medakas, I recently ordered some eggs and I will finally keep some myself.
What plants do you have growing in the ponds aside from the water lilies?
Can you show us the display tank at Aqua Review that you donated your rice fish to?
