I absolutely love ricefish and it’s your fault! 😂. Ever since I saw yours and Cory’s I’ve wanted them. After much searching here in the states, I finally found some and now I’m raising babies! Thank you for introducing us to this incredible fish.
They look very nice! Mine moved out to the balcony today! For the filter media, you should be able to get pebbles from expanded clay aggregate (no idea what their proper name is in English) at almost any garden center. They are commonly used in hydroponics or for drainage in pots. Lava rock should also work.
Hi Ryo, I have a few mini ponds that are doing well. The one out from the garden room is open to dragon flies laying their eggs in the water and I am concerned about the nymph stage eating my fish. I saw one dragonfly dip its tail into the water before shooing it away. I uncover the pond when I am out and about the garden, but that day I saw the dragonfly at the water. The cover is a small enough net sewed onto a hoola hoop that I keep on over night as well. My question is: Do you have dragonflies in your area that could do the same? How to you keep them away? I will have to empty the said pond of mine and see if there are any new nympths developing. They will eat my fish!! Thanks for any time you have to let me know what you do.
For me all fish are high quality, even sick & disabled ones. They are just my most fave animal on the planet! Not many rice fish here in Australia, I’d love to have a go at breeding them. Looking forward to more of these videos! ❤️🇦🇺
The fishroom is really coming together and i am super excited for the new contents that you will be uploading. I am hoping to also take care of medakas in the future tho they are very rare in shops in the Philippines.
Looking great. I've got the Medaka bug in the UK. I have some mixed gold/silvers that are 5 weeks old and about to go into my mini pond and some snow whites that are fertile eggs that I have had a week now.
Hi Ryo, I love watching your rice fish videos and I'm hoping to get my own rice fish very soon. I have a question though, how deep should I make the water? You mentioned they're better with shallow water but I'm not sure how shallow or deep to make my pond. I would be grateful for any help. Thank you.
Interesting....I am breeding my Youkihi ricefish and you are doing it too. I wanted to get a Miyuki but not available in my area. Great video.....keep up the good work dude!
I have 2 types of Rice fish. The Black and the Daisy blue eye. I have been feeding them Fancy Guppie and Betta food. What do you feed yours? I have watched several videos about rice fish but they always leave out the type of food they feed them. Great video!
Thanks so much for giving the dimensions of your new setup! I'm looking to start a small 6-gallon tank myself and I am afraid to overstock it. How many do you think I could put safely in 6 gallons? (I think your 11x17x6 bin should be about 4.5 gallons.)
Added to my playlist! The nearest to ricefish I can have for a fish pet are mollies. I like the electric blue one and the gold dust. I have now the red sunset, golden sailfin and white mollies! Thank you for the video, as I just cleaned up my rectangular planter box pond!
Hey ryo, this projects seems like a lot of fun! I want to try it with a couple of tubs too. Are there any other species of fish who can handle this minimal tub setup? (No filter and some minimal planting)
Haven't seen the orochi before. Ive been breeding gold and whites for a few years. Decided to take a chance and order some orochi and sarasa medaka eggs from Japan. Hopefully I can get them going.
I can guarantee you that’s not what it is. Hydroton is lightweight and smooth. Most times it will float if put in water. This thing that I have is heavy and is more like small lava rocks
I totally love the orochi medaka with those hikari type fins. I think that's quite hard to get them from my country lol😞And, thanks for the nice video content .💕
@@RyoWatanabee I use my patio pond to keep my water lilies (tropical and hardy) and few guppies, and from what I know, water lilies need full direct sunlight all day long. If I move them to the spot where they get shade/partial sunlight, will the water lilies still be healthy?
@@RyoWatanabee Ah, I see what you mean. I saw something like that when searching for 睡蓮 ビオトープ (Japanese sites seem have more detail on water lilies and biotopes then English ones). Thanks for answering. Always fun to watch your channel.
‘You don’t need an airstone or a filter…’. you may not need (in that they may survive without) but no fish actually likes pollution. As long as flow is minimal you should filter the water.
Turns out that in the UK is illegal to keep Ricefish outside, even in tubs. That's my plan out the window so decided to go with fancy goldfish! Maybe an indoor bowl one day...
Hope you like the new addition!! More ricefish content on my Instagram @ryowatanabee 😃
Thanks for sharing the rice fish information. I started the rice fish hobby since I saw your first video about your uncle's rice fish pond.
You have inspired me to do a rice fish tank but being in Australia we don't have as much of a variety as Japan
Ryo Watanabe, hiiiii ♥ omg, ur my crush now, ur so cute, handsome ♥♥♥
These rice fish videos of yours are one of my favorite ones to look forward to. Thanks Ryo and looking forward to many more. 😄

I haven’t found any either! So I’ve been considering white cloud minnows. Did you order them online?
@@TheChronicoles yes. I ordered mine through Tim’s Fish Shop

I am just making pond aquarium for rice fish. I wish they were more available here in Europe. And they are soooo pricey even if you can get them...
Loved the update bro and belated congrats on the Silver Plate!
Yay! A new rice fish video! Your videos are so nice to watch 😊
Thank you :)
Love all of your ricefish info ! I have platinum and orange ricefish! Love them.

Fantastic been patently waiting lol so excited 😊
it is getting warm where you live Ryo? in Norway its about 15c -20c most days which is ok for my shrimp room.
It’s 20-35C° here now
@@RyoWatanabee offfft 35c is far to hot for me
@@MarksShrimpTanks then your rice fish will be fine 👍 during the summer months, we will get up to 40C°
the lilies seem so happy and healthy. please do a video of how to set up water lilies with rice fish in a mini pond!

I think hardy fish such like white cloud minnows would work well
@@RyoWatanabee sweet thanks! Also wondering how big the tubs would need to be for like 3-4?
Hi, great video, do you know how many days worth of eggs can be housed in the same container ?
Hi, how are your medaka black and did u get more fry?
Though I cant see them too well in my pond, my black medaka are my favourite! I love the natural tone of them
that soil looks like leca that is used for plant media hydroponic & orchid growing.
You always know how to keep me on the edge of my seat. Well done, Ryo.
Those orochi rice fish are gorgeous! I’m looking forward to the updates on their breeding! I hope you get a ton of babies!
Amazing the Medaka little rice fish! Second only to the majestic Koi. …and of course the shiny Gold fish 🤩
Haven't seen the orochi before. Ive been breeding gold and whites for a few years. Decided to take a chance and order some orochi and sarasa medaka eggs from Japan. Hopefully I can get them going.
Hello Ryo does bright indirect light works too?
Check to make sure the styrofoam is waterproof! And also, clear plastic containers can get really hot in the summer, give them some shade!
05:15 I think it's called hydroton or LECA ☺️
I can guarantee you that’s not what it is. Hydroton is lightweight and smooth. Most times it will float if put in water. This thing that I have is heavy and is more like small lava rocks
So when it rains does the water in these small ponds go super low PH ?
Can you tell us please name of the small lily plants.
Thanks
Yeah those black rice fish are dope I bought one about four weeks ago with a gold, white and koi rice
Is the clay media similar to leca??
It’s quite different actually. Leca is very lightweight, porous, and floats. This clay thing is heavier
friend, how do you control the overpopulation of rice fish? It is a doubt that I have
They won’t overpopulate unless you take the eggs out. The parents will eat most of the babies
Those black are probably good on sand inside... I don't know about in ponds where it can be so dark
Does the big ones eat the newly hatched fish?
I totally love the orochi medaka with those hikari type fins. I think that's quite hard to get them from my country lol😞And, thanks for the nice video content
.💕
Thank you. I hope you can find some soon!
You inspire all of us!!!!
Will rice fish breed a pond without any intervention or do the eggs have to be removed and hatched out separately?
You need to move out the eggs if you want the fry to survive
How are your Medaka doing now Ryo?
Thanks to these videos, I have two
patio ponds with rice fish now! 😅
Currently own 5 breeds of ricefish because of you thank you I fell in love with these fish 🐠🐟
can japanese rice fish mixed to gold fish?
You need to get some snakehead
How do you combat algae in your patio ponds?
Balance. Not too much sunlight. Give partial shade and have plants
@@RyoWatanabee I use my patio pond to keep my water lilies (tropical and hardy) and few guppies, and from what I know, water lilies need full direct sunlight all day long. If I move them to the spot where they get shade/partial sunlight, will the water lilies still be healthy?
@@maxhadrian8680 you can cover part of your pond without blocking the lilies. By placing bamboo/rattan sticks directly on the pond

After watching your videos I bought a 70 gallon cattle trough and keeping 45 fish
Does your lillies survive winter in the water?
Yup, we just leave them alone. They come back in the spring
I wonder what you'd get if you mixed a black medaka with a blue... Has anyone done that before?
Dude, your thumbnail looks like you saw the ricefish's pens lol. But I like your videos.
These remind me of killie fish are they same sort of spieces
Where are you located?
Does it like watermelon?
Bro next try applying black silicone for your aquarium
I thought about that but I already had clear one at home and I kind of prefer clear silicone :)
@@RyoWatanabee oh
It's funny how I bought some orochi ricefish too and I was so excited and suddenly I saw you bought some too😅
I bought some of my own rice fish because of your videos!! I now have a bunch of babies in a storage container too haha

Hi, I just got some ricefish
Are they very shy? They seem to be hiding most of the time
Turns out that in the UK is illegal to keep Ricefish outside, even in tubs. That's my plan out the window so decided to go with fancy goldfish! Maybe an indoor bowl one day...
Who's going to know?
I’d be more concerned about the water companies distributing raw sewage into rivers streams and sea
Cool, ricefish are awesome
Those are the darkest ones I've seen tho! Usually all of them are barely black at all.
Yo look up the oryzias nigrimas , those are the REAL black rice fish but it's too sad that we will likely never get them.
fish is ballin
Hello I like to talk to you about the fish
I didn't get the notification 😕
@RUclips why does this happen?
