The beauty of your rice fish videos is that you keep them for fun, outside and let them be. I started to keep rice fish last year thanks to you and I now have few mini ponds outside just for fun. It is so much to learn from your videos, please keep making them throughout the year. Water hyacinths seem to play a big part in the water quality and in breeding medaka. How do you keep them this plant alive over winter, do you have any tips? I managed to get one little tiny one this year and the winter is looming in several month. It would be good if I could get it over the winter as they are nearly impossible to find them here. Best wishes from England.

Unable to get the rice fish, so I have rosy minnows with water lettuce floating and other tall plants in and around my 18 inch tall and 16 inch wide pot. I am not sure if I will leave them out over winter because it will freeze on top. Do you feed them in the winter when there is no ice on top?

@@ReneesZooTube yea, may try that next year, have lots of emersed plant growth and wanted to salvage that aspect of the pond. • @ReneesZooTube

@@charlesrosenberg77 I decided to go for floating plants this year. I figured they're fast growing and I can see them. If the critters get a bunch of them, hopefully they'd recover quickly due to their fast growth. And top mesh doesn't mess with floating plants. 😊

Are you keeping them all in shade? Or do you allow Sun to hit the surface. Thank you:)

They all get some sort of shade whether it’s with floating plants or the roof above them

My cat always go to my medaka mini pond to drink fish soup. I just can’t stop her from doing that. Pretty sure I’ve lost some dumb fish who don’t hide.

I’m not sure haha. I honestly haven’t done anything to it. I’ve had it for just over a year now. It died back during the winter but now it’s just gone wild

How cold does it get on average during winter time where you live? Asking to determine if I need to move the pond indoor during winter time.

My rice fish all died within a few days of getting them :( I got some cheap himedaka and that might have been why? They were in a normal tank and maybe just aren't meant for outdoors. They were like 45 yen a piece I think so I less than $.50. My plants got some fertilizer and I was sad :( I still have the pond and the typhoon that's currently blowing over us here in Okinawa is wrecking the plants!

I prefer breeding outdoor using styrofoam box, many of the breeders use styrofoam box or rectangular plastic container its good for any kind of weather the heat or cold doesnt stuck unlike cement pond
