I live in Tokyo, no balcony, just an enclosed outdoor windowsill. I've always liked the ricefish mini ponds I see around the city and you were the only RUclipsr with English content I could find about them. I set one up last August after watching your videos, and I just cleaned it up and set up a second one! They are doing fantastic, although I lost two fish during an earthquake (they sloshed out!)
Aren't grandparents grand! My grandfather left me the gift of a safe and fulfilling hobby like yours... working with fish! He had guppies and that's what I started with. Here now I stay with my grandmother and want to landscape her yard like I see in your vids and put rice fish out so she can sit and look at them all day!
Inspired by you I created a mini pond a year ago and I love it I'm getting nice plant growth and fish are living pretty well I got ricefish, zebra danio and guppy in there That's my personal happiness
This was wonderful to watch. I'm so excited to start my summer patio ponds. It is work and it is dirty, but it's so much fun too and it's a great family experience. Also, grats on 100k!
That was very cool. I appreciate you and your aunt showing us how this is done. I've decided to try the ricefish again, after my surgery. Fingers crossed.
It's so nice when the spring comes and you can rejuvenate things outside in the garden. When lilies get established and do well, they really grow like crazy and it's so nice to separate them and move to other ponds and give to friends. Probably the rice paddy soil is "heavy" and thick so it stays in the pots when submerged in water?
thx for this update....Your Aunt actually helps...didn't know that. cheers Love ricefishes...hardy cool water fish. I am also curious how she separate them for breeding purposes to get what color. I only have the orange ones for now. And ceramic pots are hard to find around here.
I made my own mini pond yesterday with 3 medakas, and a siamthelphusa crab. I'm looking forward to breeding them as they are quite expensive in my country.
I am beginning to suspect your favorite color is Yellow, haha. I came from the latest Japanese store walk-through, and you favored the yellow beta's in that video along with the yellow lilies in this one. 💛
The ponds on the wooden deck are sheltered by a roof above. The deeper one that is outside gets rained on but the fish usually go to the bottom of the pond when it rains
@@andrisstamusz yeah we live in a frozen tundra 😂 I’ll definitely see what kind of fish and plants will work. I may have to put the ‘pond’ on rollers and wheel it inside during the winter months. But will definitely research before I do anything. Thank you!
It would be wonderful to follow your fine example, and have a few mini ponds. However, I live on the desert and it regularly gets over 100 degrees in the shade nearly every day in the summer. The ground is stone so sinking one on the ground for insulation, wouldn’t be successful. Oh well.
Love your ricefish vids, really informative as there aren't many videos about ricefish. I bought 6 ricefish recently and they are laying eggs like crazy (while I quarantined them in another tank before adding them with my tetras)... is there any way to control the fish population? I'm worried it will overcrowd in no time. 😨
We clean the mini ponds once a year! This is how we do it :)
What is maximum temperature in your city? because I also want to put this pond
And can i put moli fishes in this pond?
And where I can find Lili plant or can I put vallisneria instead of Lili?
@@kirtikumararuja426 yeah, should work fine
Will they survive?
I really enjoyed this, thank you. It's so nice you can work with your aunt on this, and the pots all looked beautiful afterwards.

Cool video! I love how your aunt is all business 😂. This is really neat to see and makes me want to setup something simple like this.
Very interesting. Thanks for taking us through the process Ryo. 😁

Really love the rice fish.. had to watch before going to work
rice fish are so cool.

it was also really sweet to see you working with your aunt. :)
Looking forward to seeing the lily flower. Very cool plant
Yeah, it should start flowering in May or June
Have a great day ❤️
another great video. keep up the good work.
Ryo. Thank you for introducing me to ricefish. I really enjoy them.
I have my ricefish in a half whiskey barrel, they have dome well over winter. The winter has been very mild in wales this year though

Well, these are my aunt and uncles ricefish, not mine :) they’ve been doing it for 15 + years
@@RyoWatanabee I love your videos. It's very good to see you spend time with your aunt. Aunties are special
love it, and it's beautiful
I'm starting to love ricefish!!! My only problem is that that fish is very rare here in Philippines
Muy buen trabajo amigo 😃😃😃 saludos 🙏

How many gallons or liters are the patio ponds?
We call that little thing "tabo" here in the Philippines. 🤣
Thanks for sharing my friend
You are such a good nephew.
When you start doing rice-fish videos, I know spring is close!
Exactly :) so excited for warm weather to come back!
Is the nitrogen cycle a concern when cleaning out the entire patio pond like that?
Ryo: "We're gonna..."
Auntie: Does all the work.
How does the water not get too hot in the sun?
What the average size for those ceramic containers on the wooden floor Ryo?
Very entertaining Ryo 😄
Thank you Jordan :)
It seems contrary thing to do but do you kill the beneficial bacteria by cleaning the mini ponds?
I love your videos, particularly ones with ricefish.
hi. where can i find rice fish. im from philadelphia, pennsylvania
Anyone know where I can find a ceramic hide like the one at the beginning of the video?
Do you leave you co2 on when the chihiros lights turn off? I have two sun rises should the co2 have 2 times where it turns on and off?
My light and co2 turn on at the same time and turn off at the same time.
@@RyoWatanabee okay thank you
What happens to these ponds when it rains? Do any fish get washed out?
The ponds on the wooden deck are sheltered by a roof above. The deeper one that is outside gets rained on but the fish usually go to the bottom of the pond when it rains
And now I want mini ponds! They look so straightforward to keep. What trouble have you or do you watch out for in your ponds?
Temp, dont overfeed, choose right fish, and a lot of plants but he goes into this deep i a vid

I take it you treat the water after cleaning them out?
We don’t do anything. Just let it sit out for a day or two
Do you happen to know good place to buy medaka from Japan? that ships to USA.
Make terrarium video
i have outdoor planted aquarium but it got green water algae its been 2 months with pea soup water 😔
Don't these fish required oxygen pump to maintain oxygen level into these small ponds
What happend to your old rice fish mini pond? 😊
I took it down and gave the fish to my aunt since there was a slow leak in that ceramic pot.
@@RyoWatanabee oh nooo. How sad. Now you will have to make a new one! ;)
Sad to hear

Hows the population of you rice fish looking like now? I know one way is to just leave the eggs alone cuz the ricefish will eat the baby fry.
Hi
