Beautiful..I must tell you, I am a 65 year old grandma from Yosemite California. My father was wounded and became disabled on Omaha Beach, D-day. My brother was in the U.S. navy for 20 years, from 1958 to 1978. Most of the time in Viet Nam. He was also wounded. Now my grandson is in the U.S. Air Force, and I am sooo proud of him. I just want you to know that I appreciate that you see our American values. And also, we’ll always have your back. God bless you, and the U.S.A. 👍
Although my time in Caledonia was short, it was unforgettable. The crumbling towers of Duffus Castle, The salty spray of the Moray Firth, The lonely isles of the Hebrides. Climbing "Mt. Doom" through the mist. A 50-mile hike along the stone beaches of Moray The thunder of jets at RAF Lossimouth, Interrupting my own soft music at Gordonstoun. Glenfinnan to Aberdeen; You have been a home to me, As much as my home of Germany.
I love this song! I'm from the USA but I have Scottish ancestors like so many others. I enjoy all your videos and will look forward to seeing some about things of Scotland, as I love learning more about that part of where I come from. :-)
An old American woman here, The first time I ever heard this was the singers were Celtic Thunder. While theirs was full stage production, I truly love this rendition. Quietly listening and sipping a cup of tea with lemon cookies . . . heaven
I'm a Yank of eastern european heritage, but this and Irish music plucks at my heart strings Were created as unique individuals but there's so much we have in common. God grant that we come to realize that.
Another American here who LOVES this song! My 3 grown children have been singing this since they were little, and we cannot have a campfire without singing this song. Have you ever considered doing a react to "Both Sides the Tweed"?
I miss George. It was so upsetting when he passed away. He was the same age as my husband when he passed away so I really prayed for his wife and daughter.
Love Dougie Maclean. Long live Caledonia! My Blair ancestors came to New England in 1728. First generation Robert Blair fought in the Revolutionary War. 🇺🇲🏴🇺🇲🏴
I love this song and hopefully one day I will be able to visit Scotland a beautiful country. I first heard and learned this song from an awesome group Celtic Thunder.
I have to admit that I’ve been a HUGE fan of Celtic Thunder from the beginning. George was the only Scotsman in the beginning. When my grandson was about four months old and I put them on he would lift his head to the drums. He still sings to them. So I’m sorry I LOVE Celtic Thunder cover better. Any video you with them would be appreciated!!!!!!!!
I've adopted this song as it encompasses my own bio. I've come to realize that Caledonia is not a place. Nooo, it's a state of mind, more like, or that feeling you get when you realize; you needn't go, just learn your own comfort.
My parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins are buried in Caledonia, Mississippi. You think we might have some Scottish in us? LOL! I have listened to this video on more than one occasion and am very glad I am from Scottish stock.
I love Dougie. We have a few of his albums. I know I was only one of many who requested this, I want to say from my heart, thank you Mate. I am of Scottish Ancestry, my wife is from Strathaven. ❤🏴❤🏴
Ok, a little story because I always have to wade in, lol, I saw an interview with Dougie and told a cute story about it. He and a bunch of his friends had gone on holiday and toward the end of the trip he finished Caledonia. After he played it for his friends, they all packed up and went home the next day from homesickness! I think that was the gist of the story. I've listened to this song dozens of times over the last few years. I love the version with Kathy Mattea. Dougie does a weekly RUclips broadcast from his home in Butterstone. He's done them since Covid hit. I just think he's brilliant. Here is the interview of him talking about the origin of his "wee" song on Hogmanay: ruclips.net/video/OIhyyA-3BNI/видео.html.
Every friggin Scottish song makes me want tae pick a fight lol BTW Amy MacDonald version wae the bagpipes at the end is just too much for my red fiery head haha

Makes me homesick for a home I've never seen.

Me too! It was their 2nd. Concert in the USA, Cincinnati, Ohio, oh don't we miss George? ?😕😕😕

Check out Canadian rapper Tom MacDonald. A few of my favorite hits: "Cancelled", "Fake Woke", "Circus World" and "White Boy".
Hey Don, new subscriber here. Love the song. I think the song by Home Free is American Pie with Don McLean.
It's definitely one of the right ways to perform this beautiful song.
But being a Rapalje fan, I like their version a little bit more.
