No the mind would be the information contained in the brain not The brain itself think hardware versus software.
I would like to let y’all know that Scar kills his enemies by using destruction alchemy to destroy their eternal organs. He can also control what parts of things he can destroy by touching them with his tattoo arm. Idk if you were wondering that but just in case.
Its crazy how these reactions are the opposite of Arcane. Montana feels more strongly to the sisterhood there, while Kenny feels more strongly about the brotherhood here. Both make for phenomenal reactions
I'm not crying YOU'RE cryiNg!
Fun Fact, the scene of Ed punching through the door of true, wasn't in the manga, it was only in the anime. The author said that she loved it
Edward Elric: The Punching Alchemist.
That boy sure does punch a lot.
Amazing idea from the staff. This was one of the best moments in the series.
It's one of the best drawn too. That iconic finger gun after the punch.
brilliant choice. that's what an adaptation should be.
God of War, Kratos: “Do not undo his work, improve upon it only.”
I like how Kenny is more sentimental in Full Metal Alchemist reactions how Montana is to Arcane. Just goes to show how much we put ourselves in the main characters footsteps when we are similar to them (Like how Kenny can feel the Brother-Brother mentality and Montana the Sister-Sister Bonds).
In some odd way, Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood personally made me more "in-tune" with my brother-sibling bond. The lengths Ed goes to to protect his brother and the numerous tear-jerking lines regarding Al made me realize how important my siblings are to me. I wouldn't say the show taught me to be a better eldest brother, but it did teach me that being an older brother is not just a state of existing, it's a responsibility.
Ed promising to Al that he'll come back for him is one of my absolute favorite scenes of the show and never fails to make me cry.
Yeah that was badass
I literally look up the scene when I need to cry and I'm having trouble letting my emotions out and the last two episodes. Cheat code
Gets me everytime lol
ed bursting back thru the door to tell al he's gonna be back for him is one of my fave moments in this show
Its my favorite moment thus far
One of the best scenes in anime in general tbqh
@@johndinner4418 uff, exagerated.
@@andreazonin Nah, it's a classic and still hits every time. You don't need popped off animation to have the title of one of the best scenes/moments in anime.
@@andreazonin I've been able to continuously cry every time that I see this scene for like over 5 years now. So no it's not an exaggeration it's a really good scene that was set up really well by the show and most animes do not have this kind of emotional content and quality writing. Especially cuz anime is being mass produced right now and they're literally around 10 thousand anime in existence and a lot of them are soulles profit grabs
Edward is genuinely one of my favorite protagonists of any show ever. He's shown to be extremely capable and smart, but the show never shies away from letting him make mistakes and get defeated. He bottles a lot of feelings up but is also emotional, caring and *always* shows kindness to everyone he feels deserves it. He's such a great character.
Mine as well.
Ed has never won a battle so far if you think about it. That's what I love about this anime, the main character loses a lot, but he's never defeated.
@@josechamu240 That's like if I knew you in person and people kept calling you fat and then I decided that I don't like you because other people decide to call you fat and because you're bothered by it regardless of what your body even looks like. That has less to do with his character and more to do with the writing of other characters who point it out, it's a comedy gag but it doesn't actually reflect on his character aside from the fact that he's bothered by it and then he stops being bothered by it.
@@josechamu240 Ed feels the same way
The human aspect of the MC is the best I've seen portraited in a shonen by far. Edward is the best, and he constantly act like a human, making mistakes, doing stuff that sometimes doesn't make too much sense, having a lot of empathy, gets irritated, acts like a child, cries, almost never wins in battles even though he's a genius. To me FMA is more about the characters than the story itself. I love 2003 too, hits heavy.
In case you didn't catch it, Wrath having only a single soul left is the reason why he ages and can't regenerate, since a Philosopher's Stone with only a single soul is functionally the same as a human.
Also Ed seeing Al's body confirms his theory from a few episodes back that the brothers ended up connected when they tried to bring their mother back, and that Ed has been keeping Al's body alive.
As he rejected the other souls he had. It symbolised how he was willing to sacrifice anything in order to achieve his desire. Making him the exact opposite of Greed.
@@tommcburney301 The souls in the stone destroyed each simply because they were wrathful. There was no greater desire involved.
@@teamg9 True, but when Bradley chose to overcome the stone. He practically held on to a soul in order to survive wrathful procedure. And when you said he wasn't so sure he must have randomly held on to one. As his his original soul must of been one of the first to be used.
@@tommcburney301 I don't think there was any involvement on Bradley's part. He didn't pick a soul to win (intentionally or not), just the only soul left after the others were destroyed was the one he still has now.
@@teamg9 Think about it. If Bradley hadn't choose to overcome the stone. Then he would of been drained and killed just like the others. Then there were only two ways that I think could have happened for him to survive. He managed to hold on to one of those souls during that procedure and allowed the other souls to be destroyed, as he was willing to make a few sacrifices to live. Or a soul figuratively stuck to him as he was at the point where he was most emotional. Meaning, his anger from the pain.
God this is my fav FMAB outro song. It’s always tears and then you hear “let it all out” and it fits perfect.
The hype outro really works for all the episodes leading into the finale though.
This episode deals with the souls that are a part of Envy's body in a really interesting way. It's incredibly terrifying to know that despite the way they were talking and acting, they can no longer be human or ever come back, but after Edward shows compassion to them, in their 'dying moments', they're thankful for that.
Same thing with the armor guard under the 5th library. Said Ed was the first person to still think of them as human.
the ed pointing part through the door is the best. you can see how angry he was that he couldn't take him with him and how determined he is to get back there to get him. he is pointing at him like I AM COMING BACK FOR YOU no matter what.
Say what you want about Wrath, but his backstory is genuinely tragic. He never had a childhood. He was raised like a pig for slaughter because his chances of surviving the process were close to none.
On a separate note, when I watched the episode for the first time, I almost screamed when Ed found Al’s body.
All the homunculus have a tragic backstory. They were created with specific bad emotion that they feel all the time and can't control. They have no choice but being the bad guys.
That's true. But Wrath’s also the only one who had a life before becoming a Homonculus. Not that it was a good life, to begin with but still a life.
It kind of informs how he became wrath. He's truly pissed off about pretty much everything about his life _except_ his wife, and he believes that even that much is fleeting.
It also informs his views on authority figures, from kings to gods. His king was father, and that's not great. And he probably prayed for deliverance a time or two as well, or knew that some of those boys dead in the closest had.
Dude believes in nothing, and is mad as hell about it.
@@jack-mw9ok Kind of makes you wonder what Envy could have been like had he been given friends and treated nicely. Much like greed realizing he just wanted to have friends, Envy was jealous of the bonds and identity that humans had. I saw one person say that Envy's voice always sounds like he's one step away from crying.
If Envy had gone off on his own or been allowed to have friends, he could have came out a completely different person, maybe even good.
27:21 _This_ is Ed's defining moment, and one of the best moments in the show. Not his brilliant career in the military, or even his relationship with Winry. It's him desperately, determinedly breaking back through that portal, just to see and reassure his brother. He will not give up or abandon the people he loves, even if he has to cross dimensions and defy Truth itself; he _will_ find a way to save Al.
Ed: "WAIT FOR ME!!!!!"
ED: "Let it all out~~~~!"
tears came out after that
For anyone who has brothers. This episode REALLY hits you.
been WAITING for yall to get to that scene
*just you wait* chills everytime.
Same here. Ever since the mention to react to this series. This specific moment, I was wanting for them, to react to it. There times where I look up that moment and quote it along Ed because it so iconic " just you wait, wait for me!"
I have three younger siblings, I would punch any door to save them.
It still hits me even though I... Well I suppose I used to have two brothers. So I guess I fit in this bracket. Even more so than others.
There's a parallelism between Wrath and Ling. Bradley was the twelfth candidate to became Wrath, Ling is the twelfth son of his clan
Also Ling makes THAT decision while wrath had no choice.
Ling is the 12th son of the emperor, he's his clan's only heir. I know it's not really important, sorry if I seemed rude in pointing it out, it's not my intention.
@@laurainathunderstorm don't worry, you cannot be rude if you have a picture of Gyomei. One question, I think I had heard your name before, from where are you?
@@gregovaromoreno6318 wdym from where am I? Country wise or from where you might know my name? I do watch plenty of FMAB reactions so maybe that's why...
@@laurainathunderstorm sorry, is because I'm from Spain, and your name is a kind of common here. Is just because I'm curious, sorry if I bothered you
the scene with al's body is quite something. we would expect the body to be an empty husk without the soul, but the fact that the body has literally a mind of its own is such an amazing concept.
not to mention the way al's body just sat there while facing the portal, it's like he's just waiting for someone to come through those doors.
Absolutely
I can not stress this enough, and I don't even know if words exist to properly describe it. But Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood is, and always will be, the greatest Anime of all times.
Can't argue with that
@@haydenberends3905 and that’s not even an opinion, it’s fact
It's hard to argue against it even when I'm trying to be neutral and fair, but one thing I love about it is that it's really good and it doesn't try and overstay it's welcome it has a story to tell and it tells it.
Truer words have never been spoken in this universe.
All “favorite anime” discussions should basically have a “Brotherhood doesn’t count” disclaimer attached. ^_^
Ling comparing Ed's alchemy to praying is one of those moments that really stuck with me, even within the craziness that is this episode. I'm not even a religious person, I do find the subject pretty interesting from an academic standpoint. But FMA's discussions on the topics of philosophy religion and science and how they're related and how they're separate always gets my mind buzzing in a really nice way, for lack of a petter way to describe it
I really love how yall are currently watching shows about brotherhood and sisterhood at the same time. While you both have a brother and a sister irl. It's just so fitting and wholesome.
Kenny, I'm right there with you. I'm an older brother as well, and this episode ALWAYS makes me sob. For all of the reasons you said and more. And this time was no exception, I think I cried a bit extra cuz I felt like I was watching someone that feels that same care about their brother, as an older brother, it hit different. Thank you both for being genuine and honest about how you feel while watching too, it's truly a special experience watching this show with you two :)
As a big brother myself I could not imagine going through exactly what ed and al have gone through. Because I would do anything for my little brother
You guys are almost at the tipping point where the show will start giving more answers than questions. Soooo excited for that!!
I love the psychological horror aspect to Envy. That was not something I was expecting from his character at ALL when I first started watching the show
Ed Punching open the doors gets everyone!
It's such a powerful scene.
So true
FYI Ed punching back to tell Al he’s coming back to rescue him was only in the show. The author said she loved the addition.
Fun fact: at 27:17 as the door closes, the word at the center "Adonai" is a commonly used name for God in Hebrew.
Catches me off guard every time seeing it in anime context. The details work is amazing
I got the designs for both of their Gates of Truth as a forearm sleeve tattoo cause I love the detail put into them
A lot of the words on the portal are related to Judeo-Christian themes. You hit on Adonai, but another one I remember is Chesed, a Hebrew word that William Tyndale translated as “lovingkindness,” a phrase he coined in the sixteenth century.
The diagram on the portal is the sephirot, a real thing in alchemy drawn from kabbalah - esoteric judaism. Hence the inclusion of hebrew religious terms.
Kenny made me cry too😭 especially knowing his brother's name is Al as well that pulled my heartstrings😢
I loved Montana’s comment of infinity divided by infinity is one. Makes me think of one is all, all is one.
Kenny sounds like he's boutta buss in this one guys lmfao
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Just to clarify, as Ed says in his monologue as he sees the Truth again, the Mind acts as the Soul's anchor to the Body. That's why Al is both in the armour in the real world, where his Soul is bound, but his Body in the Truth isn't an inanimate shell - his Mind tethers the two, and it's that overlap of Minds that the Elric brothers caused which is what Ed hypothesised to be sustaining Al's Body despite being unable to eat.
Ed going through the portal was such a huge shock to me when I first saw it. I still always cry during it.
Was not expecting tears. You got me so emotional
I've seen this show so many times that I don't really cry anymore, but watching Kenny get emotional about that scene made me break down so hard.
Love the reactions! Keep it up!
I always cry to this episode but Kenny made me cry so much more this time
Been waiting for this episode. That ending was so damn powerful that tears just can't help but just to drop..
Next episode even if it is mostly a recap is really good. Can't wait...
this episode holds a special place in my heart
i was in high school and me and my friends we're all watching it, the new episodes were released on sunday and we would always discuss it the next day in school
this episode had everyone freaking out, pointing fingers on each other and screaming hard about it
we couldn't talk about anything else that day
You're so lucky you got to experience it like that!!
I have rewatched this show so many times and without a shadow of a doubt the scene of Ed bursting through the door against universal forces just to tell his little brother that he'll be back for him always makes me emotional
This episode is surely one of the series best! Since the beggining until the end its filled with great moments, great action, amazing plot reveals, foreshadowing and symbolism.
Whenever I try to remember this anime, this is one episode always keeps on coming back. That ending song perfectly plays a big role in solidifying this scene in my core memory.
I don't cry easily at shows, and I didn't cry when I watched the scene initially, but seeing Kenny crying at it triggered something. I'm glad you guys watched the show!!!
This episode gets me every single time. 😭 I swear this is the greatest anime in existence
Man I can’t believe I ever voted for them to watch something not this show. This is Kenny’s soul show and I’m so glad to watch him experience it. Like Shera was for Montana.
I have been waiting for your reaction on this episode ot that particular scene and it was well worth it.
As much as I hate Envy the one quote that I will always remember, “would you hesitate to throw a bundle of logs onto a fire because you pity the tree they came from?”
It’s disgusting to think about the situations this logic can be applied to and yet it is such a true statement.
I have to agree. It is a strong display of compassion that Edward sees the people of Xerxes as still being human. But they are _not_ the same as Alphonse, because he is still alive. His body and soul are separated, but he can still be saved. The people of Xerxes cannot and there's no way to change them back. The kindest thing Ed could do was using their energy with good intentions to free them from being inside Envy.
Bradley said something important that a lot of first-time viewers miss or forget. He only has one soul. All the other homunculi can regenerate by expending the souls in their stones, but not Bradley. All his stone’s souls were expended in damaging and regenerating his body during his creation in the flashback. If he’s dealt a mortal wound, he’ll die like any human, but he’s also extremely hard to land a hit on. He’s both the most vulnerable and untouchable homunculus at the same time.
I’ve been waiting for this reaction!!!since you guys started the show
I love FMAB
Another Scene where the end credits music blends beautifully, I too almost teared up, a single tear formed but didn't fall.
One of the best episodes in the series honestly. It always hits so hard. I was crying too.
Wasn’t it technically only Ed thanking the souls, not that soul saying thank you? It just sounded like Ed’s voice
Don't think it really matters, they were thankful to be used up either way.
Brother, I felt your emotion at the end of this episode. I cried my butt off the first time I watched this episode. Great reaction!
At the very end, as the door closes for good, Alphonse gives a little smile. I always love that part.
Kenny, I was tearing bending along with you man. As an older brother myself this scene (or anything relating to the bond between brothers) always gets me in them feels.
How the heck are y’all so good at predictions, the best I’ve seen
I adore the way the outro song is integrated into the end of this episode, it's my favourite outro not because of the song itself but because of the way it's utilised in the show to such great effect.
This about to be fire!
Lol awesome reaction as usual! This show will really get you in the feels, I promise y'all that. Its so cool how you guys analyze every reaction and also enjoy great anime. Keep doing what you guys do, because as I said, it gets better 🙌😎
That last scene is definitely a good moment that can make anyone cry. I love my brothers and I’ve always loved things that involve brotherhood, like the story of Joseph for example, so this series gets to me to
This show is one of the best shows in existence. The philosophy, the characters, the pacing, the eldritch horrors. Immaculate.
I simply love these reactions of you - such a powerful and intelligent couple :)
Absolutely one of my favorite episodes of Fmab. So many questions answered as well as a lot of epic and emotional moments too!
Also very interesting theories about what's going on with Al's mind. The body is in the portal as we saw and the soul is in the armor. Ed said that body and soul are connected to one another by the mind. So are they still invisibly connected so a portion of Al's mind can speak through the body in the portal? That's my theory I guess.
I feel with you Kenny on this show. If there was a chose like that for me I would have done the same as Ed. Done everything in my power to save/help my little bro. It is also nice to see you cry when it was Montana which was the tearbender at the beginning 😊
The all time best episode of this show it’s so wildly creative and unlike anything in western media. The design of envy is so crazy and that last scene hits so hard.
I realise how sad this sounds, but these vids are the highlight of my week.
“ I totally called that “ lol bro you call it all the time very intuitive
Ed breaking through something we thought as impossible just to tell his little brother he will save him is a moment I will never forget and will always love.
I'm crying at every episode tbh, this show breaks hearts!
It's nice to see the vulnerable side of kenny love you guys
One thing this show does very well is have the Ed fade in before the show actually ends during particularly emotional moments.
Bro, I felt your pain right in my heart 😭
Ed punching through the door is only jump scare to ever make me emotional.
FMA is great in so many ways but 1 of the big reasons I connected to it was because of the whole brother thing and the connection. As a grown man, every time I see that scene where Ed punches the door yelling for Al, I tear up and think of my younger brother. Love your reactions you two
The tearbending in this one is real
My 2nd favorite opening starts next episode I believe. Can't wait for their reactions to "father" as well
This scenes art is cool af
Oh damn... this was... heavy.
Also all those souls screaming and suffering... reminded me of Darkwood.
This episode has my favorite ending of any anime episode ever. It works so well with the extended outro into "Let it out".
I JUST REALIZED THAT ED AND HIS FATHER BOTH SAID “I’m sorry but I need to use you” WHEN USING THE SOULS IN A PHILOSPHER’S STONE
No shame, Kenny, I have an older brother and no matter how many times I've seen Ed bust through that door I still cry every time.
That scene is anime only. It makes the moment more powerful. For example of what happen to Kenny. In the manga, Ed didn't burst back out of the door. He just transferred to the real world (I just realised this wording, those who watch the old FMA will understand this 😂)
20:42 i love that all the suns have faces
This scene hit me super hard too. I'm an older brother, and I got separated by some of my siblings due to custody issues, and every time I see Ed screaming to Al at that scene, it tears me up. Especially combined with the "Let it alllllll ooooooout", right after XD
"Let It All Out ..."
Hit hard again
I keep feeling that Kenny loves how dark and twisted the openning scene is, but he has to agree with Montana that it's disgusting Lol
You can think something is unsettling but well done at the same time you know, he even said it was disgusting but he liked the animation
That last scene is without a doubt one of my favorites scenes in the whole series, it pretty much never fails to either give me chills make or makeme tear up… but usually both. (Depending on the mood I’m in as I’m watching it of course… pretty rare if it doesn’t affect me. lol) LOVE the outro song kicking in up mid scene, right there when it does…. it’s just absolutely perfect imo! Lol There’s only a couple other scenes that MIGHT top it for me… But without putting much thought into it beyond this, it’ll probably be a top 3 scene for me. If not, then it’s definitely a top 5 at the very least.
3:01 i knew it it was coming, but every time it still makes me flinch
This is such an important episode for information. So let’s get into it.
We have a new Philosopher’s stone use through Wrath. So Wrath actually is just that fast and strong. The ultimate eye is the only thing that sets him apart with a scaled up version of kinetic vision to see weakness. I used to think all his stones went into speed and strength with nothing else extraneous. But he is one soul. That’s why he’s a Homunculus that grows older. And why Greed thought it was impossible. Because the human body rejects the stone. I consider Wrath the most unique of the Homunculus.
May has the exact same feeling Ling did when he was 1st introduced. They felt this from the outskirts of the country, but May is terrified because it’s such a MASSIVE force. Also side note of May and Scar tearing through the Chimera horde was beyond impressive.
But then we got the stage being set for Xerxes and that iconic portal scene. The capital of Xerxes was HUGE, and even more surrounding the capital. Making a stone from an advanced culture like that would be a TERRIBLE event. And Ed notably said it was a summoning circle. Not a sacrificial one. So that means people not in the transmutation itself were dragged into it. And I believe Ed used a type of summoning circle to warp all 3 out of the true portal.
And then there’s Al. It’s revealed Ed is in fact supplying Al with nutrients to survive in their connected portal. And Al sits in limbo. If the soul seal breaks, the soul is destroyed, as is Al and his existence. Al is only still around because Ed keeps him alive. Without food and water in the portal, Al would’ve died a few weeks after their human transmutation attempt. So there IS a solution to this whole puzzle. And Ed breaking out of portal to talk to Al one last time breaks my heart. What an iconic moment.
Kenny tears up in the same way and at the same points as me. I feel you brother.
Which anime should we watch next?? Comment below!!!
Kaguya-sama: Love is War, if you're looking for a break from the shonen genre
Edit: If not, then My Hero Academia
The fate series would be pretty cool!
Especially unlimited blade works, ufotable been GOATED
Hunter X Hunter (2011), One Piece or Bleach.
HunterXHunter or Death Note!
Vinland Saga
This series is super emotional, and the tearbending will only get worse especially closer to the climax.
When souls in a stone are used up, they're gone. Envy's analogy of firewood is apt: a log that burns up doesn't GO anywhere, it's used up. While yes, using up a stone is a form of release, the souls are destroyed in the process.
That scene solidified to me that Ed is the greatest older brother in anime
Oh boy, the next episode, the episode that doesn't make sense unless you've seen further into the show. I love it.
Brother or not, _that_ scene is epic. It gave me chills just reading the manga.
I've been waiting for this 💔
Kenny got me tearing up, I always tear up with Kenny which is insane.
No dude with brothers can NOT cry at that ending scene LOL
DONT WORRY BRO THIS GOT ME TO The way he protected and never gave up on his brother touched my heart
The first time I ever watched this when I was 13 or 14 made so emotional 😅
He's looking fresh with that new cut tbh.
seeing Kenny cry makes me sad also. this anime really hits you hard in the feels
