That little who invite Hohenheim dancing seems like his wife.Do you guys agree?
Remember the healing arts that the little Kung fu baby was talking about? From their Land, they use it for medical purposes, maybe that's how Scar's brother knew how to transplant and arms someone
19:00 Scar's brother innovated a combination of Alchemy and Alkahestry. The tattoos on his right arm deconstruct, and those on his left arm reconstruct, the two practical stages of any alchemical procedure. When he found Scar with his arm destroyed by Kimblee's attack, Scar's brother deconstructed his own right arm, and then used the reconstruction circle on his left arm to graft it to Scar. Now devoid of his ability to perform Alchemy, Scar's brother bled to death in his place.
@@kinleungwong657 Yea I think that kid was Trisha.
When y’all are going to be done with this anime , can y’all pleaaaaase react to The God of high school. it’s a martial arts tournament anime, the animation and the story is really really good the main character are 2 boys and one girl , Jin Mori, Han daewi , Mira yoo I am not going to say a lot but yea please react to this
I think it’s kind of funny that Kenny and Montana haven’t even CONSIDERED that Hoenheim and Father are twin brothers, in a show called Brotherhood, that’s all about parallels. I know they’re not but that wouldn’t be a crazy conclusion to come to but they immediately went “they’re two people sharing a body!” Or “nah it’s one guy despite them having different styles and mannerisms and he’s just a manipulator.” First time I watched this I just assumed they were brothers and it was a writing choice made to parallel the relationship between Ed and Al.
Interesting thought process for twin brothers, my idea was it was Father before he created Envy and thus had shapeshifted into Hoenheim
They are borthers in a sense, and without spoiling anything they both grew up together and ads the closest thing to family either has
Oh wow, yeah them as brothers does seem like it would be most people's natural conclusion when you put it like that
Actually, the Brotherhood addition to the title does hold some nice weight because we see a lot of brother parallels in the show; Ed and Al, Scar and his brother, even the relationship Mustang had with Hughes. And Spoiler:
In a way Hohenheim and Father are sort of brothers. They both refer to ech other as such at least once in the show,, though in different contexts. It honestly makes their fates a little sad when yiu consider their past, how they grew up together and then the inevitable paths the two would embark on.
Finally, one last parallel is how Ed and Al travel to the East and West at the end of the series, much like Father and Hohenheim did.
Tbh i never thought of that possibility, at this point it's stated the power of phylosooher stones so it wasnt strange to see they we're not related but rather clones, sharing the same body or one created by the other one
Making this entire recap episode a dream has messed with the heads of so many reactors, it's pretty funny actually
the fact that it wasn't revealed at this point that father and hohenheim aren't the same person makes it even worse lol
One thing I will point out is that Mustang and even Tucker voiced surprise that they SURVIVED attempting human transmutation. Only skilled/talented/experienced alchemists can hope to survive even the attempt, so if they want to sacrifice those who have opened the portal they can't just walk anyone up to a transmutation circle and have them do it.
Just to clarify something: Hohenheim meeting Trisha as a young girl is just poetic license. He did not meet her as a young girl and then marry her when she grew up. Just gonna help dodge the implications of that early. ^_^;
not every case of that is grooming, i hope you know that.
I figured it was that or he knew *of* her but didn't really get properly acquainted with her until she was an adult. She couldn't have been any older than 18 though, because I think she was only 26 when she died.
Is that true? He was really good friends with winry's grandmother so I think it's very possible they met when she was a child. But I doubt it was more than just having seen each other around and then got to know each other when she was older.
@@ltambrosekurt2 are there even any cases of hohenheim and Trisha anyway? I don't know any immortal people.
Of course he knew her when she was young. The whole age gap thing gets thrown out the window when you remember who Hohenheim is and how old he is.
I know this may be shocking to hear, but you DO know that there have been countless loving and wholesome relationships with an age gap like that in human history, right?
Don't get me wrong. It's a good thing that we recognize the potential for abuse now, and don't allow it anymore, but the point is that they didn't always end bad.
Kenny you really nailed the roar in All Might's voice btw.
Thanks so much! I’ve always wanted to do some voice acting, so comment below if there are any other scenes you would want to see me attempt!!
@@mrfact03s definitely always wanted to do that scene!
I think having Hohenheim be central to all of the parts of the episode that aren't a recap is a great idea in a sense that makes us very curious about and finally shows us more of him, considering all we've seen so far has been Ed and Al's stories, flashbacks and a single episode of him with Ed. More of him and his struggles was really needed at this point in the show.
I always wonder why fans of shows ask reactors to skip over the recap episodes most of the time, *especially* this episode. Sure, this definitely isn't as action packed as the previous episodes but it's still important in the grand scheme of things in the sense that it builds the characters featured in the episode up, teases some mysteries and presents the themes of the show in an interesting way. Skipping this episode during rewatch is perfectly fine but recommending otherwise to first time viewers is not really something I would do.
if it is just a recap episode with no new material (this one for example has new material), then it really should be skipped. Why watching scenes cut together from the last ten episodes? Makes only sense if there was a long break between the last episode and the recap.
So yeah, this one or for example Avatars recap episodes should be watched for sure.
I think some people are under the impression the only things important to a show have to do with plot development and think character development is a waste of time. As someone who prefers character-driven media, I strongly disagree. Still, in the past I've heard people talk about how "nothing happened" in a piece of media where I think "I mean, there were tons of character development, so I have no idea what you're talking about." The other issue is that I think a lot of people really like the next episode and don't like to wait for it.
Still, completely agree that this episode should not be skipped.
@@normalgamergal Yeah, I initially skipped this when I thought it was just a clip recap episode with no new developments because I wanted the next episode. The timing for doing this was just bad.
The reason I recommend skipping this episode is because I think its timing is terrible. Up until this point, Hoenheim’s goals and allegiance have been fairly ambiguous and leave it unclear which side he’s on, especially if you recognize Father as appearing to be him. Then, right before the Father reveal, this episode gets shoehorned in and basically screams at you that Hoenheim is a good guy. If they had waited just one episode longer for this recap I wouldn’t have minded so much, but the placement really frustrates me for ruining such a big reveal. It’s similar to the reason I recommend skipping episode 1- did they really need to have a character literally shouting “The Fuhrer is evil and there’s a conspiracy among the high ranking military!” from day one?
I found it interesting that Montana said she did not know Jekyll and Hyde. 24:10 It is a short book, and well worth reading in my opinion, as it has influenced a TON of things in popular culture, as well as being an interesting take on the goodness of humanity. The copy I have is only 73 pages, so it is very readable in one day.
(edited to include timestamp)
This episode is one of my favorites and it technically not even canon since it's an anime original. It adds so much for Hohenheim’s character and theme of the story.
I feel the same about it. Great that they aren't skipping it!
It’s honestly a great example of a good recap episode. It’s still adds to the story/characters but still recaps
I mena it's canon to the anime, but then again it's alla dream so it doesn't really affect canon much.
This anime consistently has good anime only moments and it really makes it feel like this was a labour of love. Last episode for instance.
That's not how canon works.
How poetic all the souls dancing inside hoenhym's being the souls are taking the form of Pinaco to converse with him
I hate that people call this a recap episode. It is a brilliant piece of storytelling that is our first real introduction to Hohenheim while simultaneously laying bare the beating heart of the story this show is telling.
The clips from past episodes are used strategically to draw the viewer into the battle raging inside Hohenheim even though we have no context for it. For example; when one side mentions the strength of the homunculi, clips are shown that demonstrate their strength and power; but when the other side counters with the strength of the human spirit, clips are shown of Ed, Al and Mustang not giving up regardless of the cost or odds of surviving.
Definitely rewatch this episode after you finish the show.
I'd say this is one of the better recap episodes I've seen.
Not quite as good as Avatar's or Korra's but it pulls double duty with giving a lot of insight into Hohenheim's character.
Korra's recap episode was not that good. The creators only made it because they had to; they even apologized afterward.
@@HaydrogenBomb I’m obviously biased but I think Korra’s recap was decent mostly because one thing it did pretty well was humor. The Bolin/Varrick stuff was pretty hilarious as well as the roast of Mako. It also holds some of the strongest hints for Korrasami as well.
But yeah, I do think it could have been a little better as well. Instead of a recap of their lives, I would have preferred a re-evaluation of everyone’s relationship with each other.
I honestly think this one was better the ones that you mentioned are entertaining but this one reaffirms the themes that we've been dealing with so far while actually using examples from the story as evidence showing how tight the storytelling is. Personally this one is my favorite.
Korras recap was pretty bad imo… I really don’t get why I see so many people people equate it to this one and ATLA’s? Also in my opinion, this recap is a lot better than ATLA’s but ATLA’s is still really good. But the reason I consider FMAB’s “recap” to be vastly better is because I have a hard time eve considering this to be recap, ya know? I’d say this (FMAB’s) is in a league of it’s own, while ATLA’s is just a pretty good/entertaining recap. (Korra’s recap is right along any other recap though… I don’t see what would set it apart from any other standard recap episode or what there is to it that makes it any different to any other standard recap episode.)
For the people who don’t know, in anime one of the most expressive parts of a character are their eyes that’s why when you see the foggy glasses trope it’s used to show that we can’t tell what the character is thinking or that their thinking is suspicious enough for them to hide their “expression”. making us question a character’s morality when you can’t tell how they feel as they are talking about if humans are a resource is such a use of the glasses trope
Can't wait to see what they think of Hohenheim after this . . .
19:16 The major exports of Amestris is War and Amputees
Imagine some drunkard wakes up after a long bender, looks over at his empty whiskey bottle and goes "Thanks for all the help!"
I didn't even remember that this was a recap episode with how cool it was and how much we see of Hohenheim, Pinako, and this world's humans in general. It's so good.
To adress the point of Wrath's abilities brought up around 15:50, if memory serves the author, Arakawa, brought this up one time, and she said that when Wrath was younger he was effectively invincible. Love that she really took into consideration what exactly aging would do to a super human being like that.
Hohenheim's character arc pays off. That's all I'm gonna say. That shit's going to HIT.
Good eye, noticing the red lightning when that state alchemist attacked Scar and his family.
Young Drinking buddy is just a voice inside his head. The whole festival is in his head as he contemplates his regrets.the child asking him to dance was memory of his wife. Even convo with “Father” is in his imagination, Daddy HH is just trying to think.
One of my favorite episodes in the series so happy you aren’t skipping it. The way they handle this episode is masterful, very excited to watch your intrigue and speculations. ❤
me when pinako brings up the boys' human transmutation attempt: "please don't start a long misled discussion about what time this 'flashback' is happening. please don't start a long misled discussion about what time this 'flashback' is happening. please don't start a long misled discussion about what time this 'flashback' is happening. please don"
Forreal. People would understand these kinds of episodes more if they just WATCHED it.
@@HaydrogenBomb They're reacting though, of course they would mention their thoughts and confusion.
@@johndinner4418 yeah this is more a joke about how they sometimes jump to stuff at completely the wrong angle and take a while to realize when they’re wrong when they do it. It’s funny but also gets frustrating for me cuz sometimes they’re Big Brain and other times they take a long while to catch up.
@@nimbusws2566 Yeah, I get your comment, but the first reply made it sound like they should wait until they watch the episode to mention anything.
Just to clarify, the last scene is mostly cut from this episode due to copyright on “let it all out” sadly!
What? Aw man
Could of just killed the audio for that bit couldn’t you? 🤔
Its okay, anime songs are often looked by the copyright gods of youtube
when hohenheim woke up and saw these goose flying he knew some big red guy would show up at the townsgate.
One more episode. Just one more episode and then no more confusing Hohenheim with Father!
This entire episode is happening inside Hoenhiems head. The young Rockwell and everyone around the fire is his mental scape
Kenny's All Might voiceover was dope though
Thanks so much! I’ve always wanted to do voice acting, comment anything I should try next!
@@LettsReact It sounds like your voice fits well with Christopher Sabat's characters (All Might, Alex Louis Armstrong, Vegeta). I think it would be fun for you to recreate the "Your behavior is MOST SUSPICIOUS" scene from FMAB!
This is one hell of a recap episode. Didn’t understand its purpose the first time around, and I’ve grown to love it more the more times I watched. I highly recommend going back and rewatching it once you’re done with the show.
"What time period is this?"
Yes
This all boils down to a fever dream. An amalgamation of past, and present. What Hohenheim has been aware of or how things align with himself or everything else…still goes unknown. All things considered, very well made recap though.
I always thought they were different people from the get-go, Father appears older and seemed stuck to those pipes, I knew they were related somehow but I didn't know exactly how until later in the series. Of course I've read a couple of romance manga before where the female lead tries to differentiate the twin male leads, so that was my first thought with Hohenheim and Father since they were so different.
Anyway the more I found out about Hohenheim the more I liked him, he's honestly my fav character in the series.
About the Sacrifices - so it's clear at this point that those who have seen Truth are candidates. But some of those who haven't are also considered candidates. So... while there isn't enough information up to this point to say definitively what Father and the homunculi are looking for to determine if someone is a potential Sacrifice or not, I think there are more than enough clues to make some educated guesses
(And also it's best not to overthink it - it's actually relatively straightforward. But also I don't think they ever come straight out and explain why they thought Marcoh or Mustang who have not seen the Truth could be candidates, so that's why I'm raising it now.)
HEAVY SPOILERS, but now that you’ve finished the series I will say that…
Despite being a recap, this episode is important because it does a lot to characterize hohenheim. It’s important to remember that Father was like an older brother to Hohenheim. Father taught him to read, taught him alchemy. Father even gave Hohenheim his name!
and beyond being blood brothers, they were both brothers in slavery together. They were both slaves, with only each other as support. When Father betrayed Hohenheim and made them both immortal, that hurt Hohenheim to a level almost beyond recovery.
Here he’s thinking, “if I couldn’t stop him when he was just a ball in his flask, how can I hope to stop him now when he has tens of thousands of souls and the entire amestrian military under his control?”
Part 3, the cruel smiling Hohenheim represents how he sees Father, which is pretty much accurate
My absolute favorite episode! When I’m feeling hopeless I rewatch this to inspire me
Van Hohenheim is having a trippy dream lol.
Should we watch My Hero Academia some time in the near future? Comment below if you would wanna see that!
It seems to be a favorite of yours so yes absolutely!! It’s always fun to share with your loved ones something you love, and for us the audience it’s always fun to experience that alongside you!
The idea of human transmutation and transmutation in general reminds me of Momo Yaoyourozu’s quirk from MHA. She has to use her own fat to create objects, and she has to understand the composition of an object in order to make it. If she doesn’t understand the molecular structure of the object she’s trying to make, it come out deformed and defective, like how when Ed and Al tried to bring back their mom and most of the important organs weren’t there because they didn’t understand the human body
This is one of my favorite episodes of this show! I love how aa recap can be so important to the development of a character!
My favorite anime of alltime edward and alphonse elric waah cant wait to see your reaction in episode 50 onwards this storyline and fight scenes was incredible envy is my favorite villain 🥰😁 fma is still iconic van hohenheim alchemy is still legendary 🥰🥰😍😍
Great reactions and an episode as always! but just for a heads up, some other outro songs are also mixed with the last scenes for the future episodes (and some contain important scenes), so what I was thinking was that you could omit the sound/audio and only have your voices? it's just my thoughts and the last choice ofc is up to you!
I think if it’s important enough I will def find a way
im laughing so hard because of how confused yall are, i had to look up what this episode meant after watching it like sooo many times it still confused me
Just wanna point out that the two Hoenheims there were both the same guy; the one that was talking about humans as resources was his own darker thoughts, which one would have if one had an immortal body and more power than others.
It's dream of memories of the past but echoing reason and logic within the present. I see a lot of people get confused during this episode
Yaaaaaaaas this is one of my favorite episodes!!!! Trisha Elric is like Hope and the best of Humanity personified here
This is the first of a few intermission/recap episodes that appear throughout the show.
Nice little breathers to reflect on the show so far, and catch up on the things important moving forward.
This is an amazing recap episode with a beautiful ending. God I love this series and im so glad it was my introduction to anime
3:48 Montana sounds exactly like Owen Wilson....... lol
EPISODE 40 HERE WE COME!
MHA next? 👀
Really wish we could see your reaction to the openings:( they’re some of the best anime openings
I thought as a psych major Montana would of gathered after Hoenhiem wakes up you can tell it was a drunken dream, and didn't think that Father is the dark half of Hoenheim that he is supressing like an alternate, tyler durden style personality
One of the most underrated episodes of the series, so many reactors skip it
Greed ultimate shield
Wrath ultimate eye
Gluttony ultimate... mouth?
Envy ultimate body
Lust ultimate....breast?
This was the episode i was waiting for because we learn a lot about Hoenheim. Next episode will clarify everything, which, by the time i make this comment, they’ve probably already watched to begin with. Regardless, FMAB does a really good job hiding the truth from us through it’s start.
Also, the undertale plus ultra was great, and I appreciate it’s existence lol
Kenny & Montana: (Believing Father and Hoenheim were the same person in previous episodes)
Me (during all the previous episodes where they thought this): 🤭
That voice over 100/10
One of my favorite episodes of the series!
Shame so many people skip it
Yes, PLEASE react to My Hero next! Montana will love it!!!!
Great recap episode
It's funny, I was thinking 'PLUS ULTRA' and then All Might appeared
Your voice over is amazing
Explained transitive property better than my geometry teacher 💀
The label on the bottle is an easter egg for an earlier work of the series creator.
Well this episode was an LSD acid fueled trio of the century
Every week they get closer and closer to the truth (pun intended). Also just a few more weeks until some extreme plot reveals.
Also surprised they didn't bring up the parallels between envy's true form being made up of faces (souls) and the one shot of Father looking down on Hohenheim in which his own face morphed into those same ungulating faces. Foreshadowing perhaps . . . maybe 🤔🤷♂️
As for how i understood it this whole stuff happens in hohenheims mind so its not him looking into the future or something but yeah just all of this is his thought process or something
Kenny! That's such a great AM voice!! You talented little bugger!! I'd love to see you guys' reaction to MHA :D Would you consider non- animated reactions? I think yall'd get a kick out of watching Killing Eve-- think lovable psychopath, Montana's simp counter would be off the charts tho LOL😸
It's in hoenhym's can't explain more idk if you guys Finnished the show
Now that you're half way though, you think you'll check out the 2003 adaptation or the Ova amd bloopers after you're done?
The whole point of Brotherhood is having a well constructed story. You guys should check out an episode of the original series after you're done with this one. I'd like to see your comparisons.
"We may not be pausing as much"
There's a couple of videos you need to check out when you are done. One actually talks about the meaning of the "eyes" in full metal the other talks about "truth" they are real good
who made the video on the eyes?? i’d really like to watch that!!
25:15 Wrath ages though, do Father/Hohenheim age?
I’d be down for MHA reactions
I know Kenny has already seen it but I'd love to see you guys watch My Hero Academia to get Montana's thoughts
Great ep especially on a rewatch
Who do you think the little girl who wanted to dance represents?
(At 4:07) don't tell me that's Tricia?
I would die if MHA became a show that Montana reacts to. I need it
i always get here too late to vote on the next series to react to. damn schedules. (my vote would be for dragon prince.) oh well, will hope for the best.
Guys, it's not that friggin' complicated.
I haven't seen the show before but I hope they don't get their limbs and missing body parts back. I follow a few disabled RUclipsrs that seem to be strongly against that.
