It's complicated. As I understand in the 1953 DC claimed Captain Marvel violated their copyright to Superman (after Captain Marvel started outselling Superman) and maliciously used litigation to force Fawcett to cease publication of Captain Marvel comics(I think as a settlement). Thus the trademark "Captain Marvel" lapsed leading to Marvel creating their own Captain Marvel in the 1967. (This character's name was Mar-Vell, Alias Walter Lawson) The character of Carol Danvers appearing for the first time later in the 60's DC then licensed the rights to the character Captain Marvel from Fawcett and relaunched the comic in 1972 but since Marvel now held the trademark for Captain Marvel they called the series Shazam but continued to call the character Captain Marvel. Carol Danvers then becomes Ms. Marvel in 1977 as a spin-off of Captain Marvel. The original Captain Marvel then dies in 1982. Then Carol Danvers becomes Binary in 1982, then Warbird in 1998, and then becomes Captain Marvel in 2012 around the same time DC officially renamed the mainline character to Shazam in 2011. Though DC still has the rights to the character and as such can refer to them as Captain Marvel whensoever they want.

If I remember right, Shazam was once named Captain Marvel but some name copyright shenanigans allowed them and Marvel to both use the name before DC changed it
Yeah, Captain Marvel was actually a really old comic hero, just 1 year younger than Superman. I believe it was due to the rise of Marvel movies and their connected comics that ended having DC decide to go with Shazam instead since they wanted to revitalize him and didn't want conflicting marketing.
He used to be owned by a company called Fausit Comics. The company was forced to stop printing Captain Marvel by DC because he used to be a Superman knockoff. Their trademark expired and other companies started using the name until the 70's when Marvel paid the then current trademark owners to not print books with the name and bought that trademark from them. DC could still call him Captain Marvel but his books were sold under the Shazam title until 2011 when they started calling him Shazam in comics as well

Despite all Martians sharing abilities like telepathy, shapeshifting, and flight, deep societal divisions persist, largely fueled by ingrained biases.
Kinda funny that the shapeshifting aliens discriminate based on color.
The second half of Young justice S1 is just peak after peak
Another awesome reaction comp. Ty guys. Halfway through the 12 hr teen titans mega vid and had to stop for my favorite show.
3:40:59 Batman gaslighting with the “you need to keep watching”💀
3:49:39 glad you noticed Garfield's eye color changed after his blood transfusion not many reactors noticed.
Can't wait for season 2! It's such a good show all the way through.
I'm so excited. This series just gets better and better every season.
Shazam was originally called Captain Marvel before Marvel Comics started a very long lawsuit. After the dust settled, Faucet Comics (and later DC Comics post acquisition) began to use his transformation command "Shazam" as his actual hero name
Such a good show, and S2 only gets better.
The No Win scenario was scarring as hell. Why the League thought that was a good idea I'll never know
the League deals with heavy-duty shit on a regular basis, it makes sense to prepare the team to deal with failure and catastrophe now that they've decided they don't want to just be sidekicks on low-stakes adventures where they punch some guy with a cold gun. there's always gonna be real stakes and they need to learn what that feels like, it would've been fine if M'gann wasn't such a powerful telepath
Welp, time to binge a binge of one of my Top 10 favorite DC Shows that I have watched countless times and somehow never get bored of seeing.
Damn. That was good. Thank you for holding my attention for a couple days. This was great to watch at work. Can't wait to see what y'all think of season 2
I love, love, love Young Justice!! It is in my Top 3 favorite DC shows of all time. Do Season 2 ASAP!!
the show is officially set in Earth-16 of the DC 52 Multiverse. so take a shot every time you hear the number sixteen used in the show. Then be sure to livestream your liver transplants.
Bro young justice used to be my favorite show when i was younger, I lowkey completely forgot abt it until now tho
When there's trouble , you know who to call: Young Justice
Ooooh, yeah! The whole season at once, that's what I was needed
4:42:13 The first robin? Can't tell if this was just a joke but Dick is the first Robin. Damian, Tim, and Jason have become Robin yet.
3:17:53 Abel’s House of Secrets is a reference to an old old anthology series DC used to publish, similar to “Detective Comics” or “Amazing Fantasy” before Batman and Spider-Man took over those books. Its companion book was House of Mystery, hosted by Cain.
3:42:03 The USA tried to take Canada. From memory, the last time America tried the White House got burned.
3:57:50 Batman’s hardest line.
Between that line about why he trained Robin, and the basketball Downtime scene, we already have one of the best "Bruce by measure of fatherhood" Batman versions. Those scenes show he cares for his adopted son, and not just in a distant way.
Let’s gooooo so happy you’ve got this out !
Ruff mixing dc apokalips with the marvel Apocalypse is killing me
I’m not because I didn’t even know marvel had an apocalypse
@@sortastupid you should have. Apokalips is the name of the supposed First Mutant an omega level threat capable of destroying and creating entire worlds. He was the villain of the last X-Men movie. The story goes. He is essentially a cross of Vandel Savage (DC), Mr. Sinister (Marvel), and Thanos.
@@sortastupidRemember that en Saba Nur guy at the end of X-Men 97 and the guy who had the playing card, that's apocalypse, same person
Ah interesting
Its an amazong series, sad DC stuff is not getting enough viee but happy you're enjoying the series so much. Beem a pleasure rewatch, waiting for S2
Episode 20 is by far my favorite character dive episode this season
i’ve been waiting for this one
3:46:00 Many immigrants find television to be a great way to learn language and culture in a way that's natural. Only, she can shapeshift lol. Makes sense that she would do this.
Apocalypse is marvel you're thinking of Darkseid
Darkseid rules the planet Apokolips and is one of the main over aching villain's in the DCAU
Also DC owns the rights to the character captain marvel but marvel took the name that's why there's two captain marvels the DC one going by captain marvel/SHAZAM.
In case it hasn't already been mentioned, Marvin and Wendy (from the school) were sidekicks to the Justice League (or "Superfriends") in the original Superfriends cartoon. The teacher who likes to snap his fingers is based on "Snapper" Carr, a sidekick/mascot to the Justice League in the comics. The "House of Secrets" was a horror anthology comic.
Oooo jeez, now we need season 2 react!!!
i am going to have to watch this one over a couple of days love it btw
The school bus! What about the children!!😂
DC could still call him Captain Marvel but his books were sold under the Shazam title until 2011 when they started calling him Shazam in comics as well
3:44:57 they actually changed his origin history on this one 3:45:51 the original one is quite different
Fun fact, while it is true the Yellowstone is a supervolcano, it's probably never going to erupt. It's relieving enough pressure at a gradual rate to avoid it. However, it is still technically capable of it's cataclysmic eruption if it has some... outside help.
1:34:58 M'gann 🔥🔥1:49:06 i love that they showed us these two experiencing school like "normal kids". Its always interesting to see
1:49:13 Bumblebee
Really glad you enjoyed this one in the end!
"Do you think they nerfed Four Loko because it allowed you to respec all your stats into Strength?"
Wow did I forget how much I love Captain Marvel and Red Tornado. Superboy bringing in strays and leading the New Genesis group, Wally serving as a delivery boy, and Captain Marvel being a bridge between two worlds, those episodes and moments were the best. This was a fun 4+ hours.
The scientist reporting to the Light. His VA is the late Rene Auberjonois, who was also a guest VA for the Justice league series & of course the actor for Odo on star Trek: deep space nine. Rip
Waiting for season 2!
Not sure if anyone knows this but there is a young justice game that I think is cannon because it takes place between seasons 1 and 2 so just heads up.
Yea it is. But i think comics of young justice take place right after the game. And then there’s season 2. But I’m still mad about the time skip because we missed so many good arcs like Jason Todd, Cheshire rescuing red arrow, doom patrol and Barbra becoming batgirl
Dick Grayson's Robin laugh (1:39:54) is just one of my favorite things about his Robin
TODAY IS THE DAY BILLY!!!!!! I can't wait until S2, its my fav!!! ❤
such a perfect season 1 and season 2 is EVEN BETTER
Fun fact: Martians aren't really weak to fire, they just have pyrophobia. Because Martians have so much control of their bodies and minds to macrolevel, when they believe fire can hurt them, then it does. PS: It is canon Oreos are heavily addictive to them.
The fact they didn’t react to Jesse McCartney (yes that one) voicing Robin/Dick Grayson is so sad to me 😭
Wooow!!! Okaayy, i was excited today for some Young Justice but definetely wasnt expecting this!!!
Ruff, some comics that I think you should check out is Static Season One and Shadows of Dakota; but may be a little biased towards those, Teen Titans series by Kami Garcia, and the Nightwing volume “Leaping into the Light”, and maybe Teen Titans and Titans Rebirth you may like 2:23:16
There's a channel (several actually) that create a sort of Visual novel style video of comics.
Comicstorian is the channel
Superman/Shazam : THE RETURN OF BLACK ADAM !!
1:42:40 i love that it says speaks Latin when shes speaking backwards
When Superboy says he hates monkeys for no apparent reason the reason is in the young justice comic
This show is the first DC media I ever saw when it first aired (2012 in Cartoon Network), so THIS is my Justice Leage, this is are my "sidekicks", and this are my villians... I was very sad when the show got canceled after S2 with that cliffthanger (you'll see) so the fact that fans were able to save the show and came back with 2 more seasons and more mature themes is something I'll always be proud of. Btw, little fun fact: Aqualad was created for THIS show, every other variant/version of him is post YJ... and the comics in between seasons are pretty well written imo! 😊
3:57:40 One of the best exchanges in all of cartoon history. Gives me chills every time.
fantastic video reacting to my fav series. been watching for days this was awesome
The training episode reminded me HEAVILY of Halo Reach
love the question of who will e leader and love how the show makes that a point of conversation
Also in terms of dc reaction suggestions, I'd recommend:
- Batman The Brave and The Bold, a fun and campy batman show where he teams up with various heroes, including Plastic Man as a regular recurring character, alongside other characters like Booster Gold, Guy Gardner, Blue Beetle, Aquaman, and Green Arrow. It's a great show that gives you a crash course on DC as a whole, and fits your comedy style
- Batman vs Dracula, a movie that is exactly what it sounds like, and if you like that movie you can check out the show it ties into
- Justice League crisis on two earths: My personal favorite DC movie, features Justice League vs a world where they are the evil ones
brave and the bold is so good introduced me to blue beetle as a kid too
"Quite possibly the worst Joker I have ever seen"
Someone has forgotten Jared Leto exists
if you want to watch some non-dcamu movies i recommend:
batman: mask of the phantasm(this one won a bunch of awards) and superman/batman: public enemies
1:47:05 Who told you that the league of shadows was all women originally? I'll look it up in a bit, but I think that's only true for the Arkham universe. Every other depiction has been mostly male or at least a mix of both men and women.
thats why they have to educate themselves so they cant get trolled lmao
1:36:07 ........where's Diddy with the baby oil when you need him .......😱😈👹💀
3:49:32
Oh look a bite from a money right after alien dnd was introduced into the blood stream 👀
I’m ready for season 2!
In case you see this and no one has told you yet, DC's Captain Marvel and ShaZam are the same character. DC changed his name.
Anytime Boom says "... but im not out of options" im here for it! He needs to make a T-shirt 😆❤️😄
