    I wish some old people's homes and yes hospital wards gave Thier elderly and especially confused patients the same respect. I've seen an elderly lady who her family told me was a real lady. In her youth she looked like Audrey Hepburn. Her family came each day talking to her about all the things she had done in her life while she lay silent. She had worked for the resistance in france during the war. Risked her life to save a downed airman ...yet every time they changed her on a MIXED WARD she was left naked on the bed while staff just came and went. It broke my heart. So I got out of my bed and covered her she smiled at me the sweetest smile. Yes Audrey Hepburn was still in there. When the nurse came back I said do you realise this lady was a war heroine and raised a family while working for charity ... She's earned dignity. And care.

      Oh that's so awful. I am with you it makes me so mad when staff treat the elderly like that, for goodness sake no one in their right mind would leave a person naked no matter what the age when these people have to rely on others to care for them.
      What an absolute amazing story of that ladies life. I would have loved to be able to listen to her stories when she was able to chat about them, remarkable. Thank you for been so kind and caring in helping that lady 🙏 your an angel ❤️❤️

    When I was in nursing school and doing a rotation in the hospital, we were in the surgery suite where a woman was about to have a vaginal hysterectomy. The room was full of not only us, but other students too. We were all new to this and were totally not expecting what was to happen. Of course, in order to perform that surgery, the patient is put in high stirrups with her legs spread as far as they would go. Not only could a room full of people see everything, there were other males who worked in surgery and they were going back and forth at the end of the table. I was practically in tears and felt like disappearing. I know that students have to learn, but as a woman, I felt violated. I'm glad that y'all at least don't expose a person's body.

    I worked in and around the mortuary for 35 years. I was only a head porter but I insisted on decency and respect to all those I took there; they all belonged to someone. I passed on this to all who I taught. Whenever placing a body in the fridge, from the ward, I always said God Bless mate, or God Bless love! I've been retired 13 years now but I was told recently all the porters still say that! In the early years it was expected of us to assist the mortician at a Post Mortem, but this duty was removed when we were privatised.

    I used to know a lady who was a funeral director/embalmer and I asked her about this. She basically said the same thing; there is always a sense of respect for the deceased person and for that person’s family. She also said, “And remember we are all born naked and when we die we’ll probably be naked at some point (hospital, funeral home, etc.) and funeral people see everything and there is a great deal of compassion and respect.” I thought that was a wonderful point.

We undressed the two people and for a second, I was like “oh, their naked”, then totally forgot about it. Thank you for your very informative video. I enjoy your dry sense of humour...turn your head...that was great. This is something that I have never worried about because I think that embalmers have probably seen everything on the table. Since my body is not sensational, I would think this is not a problem. Also, an embalmer is a professional - performing a service for the client. I know when I get a massage, I am never naked on the table. When I am examined by the doctor, I am never naked on the table. So, I would suggest that 99.99% of embalmers are the same. I did not say 100% because there is always somebody in every crowd!

    When we went as a family group to a relatives viewing the mortician did that flat straight back hairstyle. After the viewing one of us told the arranger the way she wore her hair which hadn’t been discussed before. She said something like oh, okay. My apologies. Of course I’ll get it changed for her today. They were really nice about it.

    Interesting Question from Angela. Informative answers from Tracy. When we die certain procedures have to be performed some more invasive (like an autopsy) than others. Everything is done by professionals with the object of doing their best for the individual they are caring for and the grieving family.
    Trish's suggestion of leaving instructions in the will is worth considering.
    Tracy naked in the Mortuary😮? I can picture her , Kal and little betty in swim suits and wraps in loungers drinking chilled white wine with the fridge door open while everyone outside is melting in the Australian Summer Sun 😊.
    If I have any hair left when I hit the mortuary table my instruction would be "just do your best!"
    I remember going into the barbers in the late 70's and asking for a haircut like Mick Jagger. He gave me a buzz cut.
    Furious I screamed "You idiot Mick Jagger's hair doesn't look like this!"
    He replied with a smile "No? Well it would do if he came here. That'll be 75 pence..oh and anything for the weekend sir😉?
    Tracy's claim "I can usually tell where the hair falls after I've washed it how the hair should be." Good luck with me mine ends up falling on the floor!
    Another classic video thanks ladies!

    Exactly what I was thinking ; you're dead , you won't know . Here in Kentucky the funeral home usually has a beautician come do the hair . Getting to be fewer that will do it ; the younger one's aren't keen on doing hair in the funeral home.

    Hello ladies! When I read the title, I thought that we were going to be talking about a weird mortician fetish. 🤣 If I were to go the embalming route, being a guy, I don't think it would bother me. But, I will be cremated, so it shouldn't matter. It reminded me of a fascinating video I watched about preparing the body for a Muslim funeral where modesty is paramount. The mortician goes so far as to wrap their hand in a towel so they cannot feel the genitals when washing. Interestingly, they believe the body can still feel, so don't do anything the deceased would find painful or uncomfortable. The beginning of the video title is Ghusal and Shroudung Workshop with Brother...and then his name. It's over an hour long, but thought you might find it interesting. Take care beautiful ladies!

I know 'modesty cloths' are standard practice, but I still fear that my local FD may choose, or otherwise, to 'forget' to the deceased's dignity....I understand that anything that happens 'down below' is very embarrassing, especially when the deceased can do nothing about it...I hope the 5 gents in my local funeral home are as professional and ethical! 🥰🥰👍👍

    I’m thinking that if I’m dead on the mortician’s table, or having a post-mortem then my body being ‘naked’ is really less than important. I’ll know nothing about it, none of my family or friends will see me like that and it would be a bit late to matter if they did.
    My body has nothing unusual about it, nothing that 99% of the general public won’t have seen many times over their own lives. Yes, I’d expect anyone’s body to be treated respectfully, eg not played games with it or other silliness, not for remarking on in a pejorative manner, or to be photographed unless necessary for some legal procedure, etc. A professional worker dealing with bodies will have standards that are expected to be maintained at all times, and I’d have faith in that expectation as I would in any other professional offering services to the public. Of course, there are occasionally people who abuse or misuse their standing, but generally so few that it’s not worth worrying about.

Sadly she passed away and when the family got her body back to theUS they had an autopsy done. She died on the operating table do to an allergic reaction to a medication. The really worst of the whole ordeal for her family was the fact that dna from 3 males was found inside her body. That must have happened after she passed away.

    I'm more worried about being viewed without eye makeup and lipstick or with weird makeup. My humble little mother never wore makeup and when my siblings saw her deceased with bright red lipstick and rouge in her coffin our mouths dropped. Our religion believes that the persons spirit stays with the body until it's buried or cremated so we were sure she was either laughing or horrified.

    • @Areyoudyingtoknow

      Hi Mechelle, we have answered that in a few videos. It's a long story 🙃
      I had to leave hairdresser due to developing server dermatitis, then worked at the NHS National Blood Services as a phlebotomist taken the blood donation (actually helping in saving lives) in the first 2 weeks of working for the NHS BS my mum was killed 😞 this changed my life forever and our family was not able to view her as we were told her injuries are to traumatic to see and the mortician could not do anything to help 😞 unable to view my mum effected me badly and I was not able to get closure from here death. This triggered an interest that I had had for many years and used to talk to my mum about working in a mortuary. In the meantime I had
      moved to Australia from the UK got a job in pathology collection (taken blood sample & other pathology samples) did this for a while. Then became a medical rep for a few years travelling around Australia, during this time I applied for jobs in the funeral industry to just get my foot in the door to work towards becoming a mortician/embalmer. This happened I went on to specialise in reconstruction from traumatic injuries to help families to view they loved ones if at all possible. If I can help one family get closure from a traumatic death then that helps me with the loss of my mum. Thanks for your question take care 😊💚

    Question
    How do you go from hairdresser to mortician?

    • @Areyoudyingtoknow
      @Areyoudyingtoknow  2 года назад +1

      Hi Elizabeth, It's a long story 😉 I will try and condense it. I had to leave hairdresser due to server dermatitis. I ended up working for the NHS National Blood Services (in the UK) taking units of blood (ironically saving lives).
      My mum was killed and her injuries were so horrific that our family were not allowed to ID her or ever see her again 😔 it was the most traumatic time in my life and for my dad and sisters. This change me forever ( you will know that from the loss of your daughter 😔) I did not cope well with this loss and struggled with it for many years.
      I was always interested in mortuary work (long before I lost my mum)
      I came to Australia and started to look for work in the funeral industry, eventually got in. I specialised in reconstruction so I could help families view their loved ones that die in traumatic circumstances (like my mum) because I know how hard it is to never see you loved one that has been taken away suddenly and unexpectedly. This then helped me in dealing with my own grief. Sorry I went on a bit.
      So that's why I am were I am today 😊 thanks for your question, hope you are ok 💚💚

    • @elizabethkaftan7929
      @elizabethkaftan7929 2 года назад

      Im so so sorry I asked you that now
      I'm so very sorry that happened 😢
      Just saw Naomi Judd lost her life to suicide. That's how my little girl went 2 days after her birthday.
      You might not know her, but she is a huge country singer here in the USA.
      I'm originally from N.Ireland, loved her music when I came to the states.
      She struggled with mental illness like myself and my daughter.
      The suicide rates here are a major pandemic, worse than covid 😪

    • @Areyoudyingtoknow
      @Areyoudyingtoknow  2 года назад +1

      Don't be sorry, I can talk about it easier now than in the beginning. Time does help in healing a little but it takes a long time, you never get over the loss you learn to adjust your life to cope with it.
      That's very sad about Naomi Judd 😔 unfortunately suicide is very high everywhere it's just not reported that much in daily news. I can look after a few suicides a week and that's just in 1 mortuary out of hundreds across the country.
      I am certainly no expert in this area at all but I do hope you seek out help in your times of need and have a support next work around you 🤞 just know you and your life are as important as another person, we all matter, big hugs and take really good care 💚💚

    What worries me is the aspiration you do to stop any leaking. I really, really hate the thought of that being done to me (or my mother for that matter). It's much worse than being nude on a table. I'd rather be cremated at once without all that.

    • @Areyoudyingtoknow
      @Areyoudyingtoknow  7 месяцев назад +1

      Hi, here in Australia we don't embalm everyone, only when requested by family, cultural reasons, buried in an above ground vault and flown overseas. Aspiration is part on embalming so in our natural preps washing and dressing is mostly all you need. If you don't want to be embalmed after death then I suggest having something written by you to inform the funeral home of no kind of prep to happen or do a pre-arranged funeral plan. I have lots of deseased come into my care and instructions are for the body not to be touched, I always honour theses wishes. Please don't worry like I say it's not a thing that happens to everyone. Take good care 💚💚
