Wearing my SKX009 now as I’m watching this video. Definitely one of my all time favorite watches and it will never leave my collection.
I wonder if they noticed that the bottom part of rubber strap is on inside out.
Great review, I love my SKX007, I've spent more on mine than I originally spent buying the watch, super engineer bracelet, plongeurs, domed crystal and a tuna style bezel insert, a true classic.
This watch just arrived for me today in the mail. It’s quality really is impeccable.
For me, the SKX case with the 4r36 movement in it, is perfection. Of all of the watches I've ever owned it's my favorite.
Jack1979 absolutely. I've got several nice watches, this inexpensive art piece is my fave.
I just ordered this exact watch online! Thanks for confirming my choice! Excited to get it!
A classic no doubt. Have a 91' 7002 in my collection myself.
Does yours have green lume markers even when they do not lume?
Iconic dive watch. Been wearing the padi for a while now and thinking of picking up this smaller sized one.
You could add links to the full written reviews in your video description, that's something I expect when the video tells me to go read the full review.
just got mine! its got such a lovely design, i love it!
Y 27 you'll enjoy it for decades...
I think I'm gonna buy one alongside a black nato strap and mesh bracelet. Looks great!
"Thanks for _watching_"
haha, *get it?* You guys?
I have the SKX009 (same watch, but with pepsi bezel instead of black), and love it. It's an incredible value and feels rock solid. Second the Strapcode jubilee recommendation. I have the polished super jubilee, which cost almost $100 (almost two-thirds the price of the watch!), but it looks terrific, feels solid, and makes the watch look and feel like a much more expensive piece (dresses it up a bit, too). It's also made just for this watch, so the curved end links fit perfectly flush with the case.
Definitely my next watch!
Thank's for the great review.
My Seiko SKX007 and a rubber strap is on it's way, look forward to the experience of this great value. Thanks for sharing!
Mine is on it's way now, how are you liking yours after a few years
@@jeremybowman4681 and mine is on it's way now!! How is YOURS!
Bought mine new 2019. Love love the watch
Solid review - Subscribed on the spot.
Also bought a Seiko 6309 recently.
Nice review. I love my 007 and 009, they are just about perfect. Accurate, very versatile and great looking watches. I have my 007 on a brown Hirsch Liberty which contrasts really nicely with the black dial, and my 009 on a Super Engineer II which makes a combination that looks and feels a lot more expensive than it is.
Nice, simple and strait forward watch. Not too big, or small
I've got one, will also buy the 009 sometime in future :)
nice review!
strap at 6 o'clock is installed inside out though :)
mgiorgos lol, well spotted
Good articulate review.
:) Excellent watch! I love that kind of watches and this one is great!
Great review. Thanks :)
I ordered one today. With sapphire crystal!
It's 2020 now and I had to pay $290 for my SKX007J1 from Jomashop (brand new with tags, but no Seiko warranty).
Great timepiece, had to order one last night, just had to! I feel that my watch collection is incomplete without one.
Right on! I'm about to order one when I get my paycheck.
robert bishop how do you like it? i rock mine on a james bond nato, planning to snorkel with it soon
Nick Kankanyan hi Nick, sorry for the late reply. I wore for a couple of weeks on the supplied rubber strap, then put it on a distressed suede one, which was badly made, my first mistake, then I got a much better quality tan leather strap, it looked great. Now I have it on a heavy duty Luminox NATO/ ZULU, it looks the biz. I’ll keep this until my dying day, I think. I guess it’s the poor man’s Rolex Submariner, without being actually a lesser timepiece. Seiko’s back story is every bit as fascinating as Rolex’s, but with so many more innovations to their name, they have millions of followers and still they are underrated! Glad you’re a fan, they really are an icon of dive watches.
Best watch for the money on the planet.
Look at the Steinhart Ocean 44 GMT. Steinhart started out making homages... but is beginning to make its own designs. The homages were their attempt to start making profit and capital to expand to original designs.
Just wondering, is your skx accurate till now?
You sound just like Marco Rubio. Haha
+mbnv99234 lol
+mbnv99234 He really does. Was just thinking that. I find Rubio has a very calming tone. This man has that same tone. Funny!
David Maglio
Beginning of the video, you have written that it has a display back. I know that mine doesn't! :)
+wornandwound what cloth is it in the Background?
Very good watch
Very nice aftermarket jubilee. Thumbs up.
hervé Chretien I use a camo zulu or dark leather strap. Fantastic!
Very nice!
once again how accurate is this watch
I correctly understand that a bracelet original rubber bilateral? One party rough, other smooth?
It bothers me to see that the rubber strap is upside down.
The rubber strap alone is bothersome, it’s a POS!
Very good review. SKX007's made for the Japanese Domestic Market (SKX007J models) are significantly higher in price and more collectible. They are easy to identify from the SKX007K models as they say MADE IN JAPAN and 21 Jewels on the face of the watch. NOTE: The warranty on the J models is only valid in Japan.
Sheep Dog any difference between the domestic ones and the international ones other than markings?
zzaggachonsa nope just maybe $20-$30 price increase, depending where you buy it. I was willing to spend extra to have the made in Japan version. Btw, the Japan version have English and Arabic day display.
have a SKX 007 with a Miltap super jubilee bracelet on it with two free matching bracelets. DBsandman305 on eBay 250. I have the Japanese version.
had a 007 a week and cant believe its settled to running at +1 sec per day
I love mine-snagged a solid deal. I got lucky it came with a jubilee bracelet and I then bought the oyster bracelet. I wear it everyday and plan on putting it one until I ride it to the grave.
Hell, watches 30 times the price of this one fail to get rid of 'play' in the bezel (omega seamaster 300m).
KingRichard fact
Don’t forget the 7548 quartz that’s where the dial design comes from
In what amount of time should it be serviced? I am thinking about getting the SKX007. And what kind of pricing should it have? (I am from Europe)
Daan S it can go about 10-15 years without a service. So feel free to get a service within that time frame. I can't imagine it'll cost that much at all, considering you'd already save up lots of money for the watch's care.
Nice watch.
What is your wrist size ??
why cant you hand wind these if its automatic? if it goes dead how do you get it running again? is it basically shake it and wear it to power it each time? (novice)
Yep
holy shit i already have skx009 and i want the snzg15j1, but everytime i see skx007 video i be like "i want this too" fuck, i mean which one should i pick, 007 or snzg15j1? note again :already have 009
Btw the rubber strap is the wrong way round
Remember to turn the bezel to its correct position next time
aftermarket oyster bracelets are available, but seiko doesn't provide them as a factory option
Which would you recomend the most? Seiko skx007 or Orient Ray 2
I have both the Seiko skx007 and the Orient ray .
My advice is to own both as they are very affordable. You can then enjoy both without ever wondering which is the better.
As a dive watch though.....the skx is certified where as the Orient ray is not.........that alone gives a good feel factor when in the water with the Seiko.
Happy days☺☺☺☺
Atif Rashid I would agree. It is an all time classic.
Ended up getting the SKX and its a great watch!
Haaaj I honestly think that you made a wise choice because the skx is of legendary status within the timepiece society.
The Orient is also a great watch and is built to the highest of standards but it is not as robust or as eye pleasing as the skx.
Yes the jubilee strap compliments the looks of the watch, especially with the combination of polished links.
There are people who place negative comments on the jubilee because of the light weight feel and jingliness if the linkage. Yes they may feel light but once on the wrist who cares? A jubilee is what is and that's how they feel, even the more expensive versions.
The bottom line on the skx is that it is a watch that will wear any occasion, formal, adventure ect.
It has the killer look, it has the reputation and of course it comes as a certified diver watch for those who wish to dive the depths of the deep blue sea with trust and confidence.
I would say to those who are interested in this watch.........Buy it now because "time waits for nobody.
The lum is applied pretty sloppy on this example. Its all over the place. Misaligned at 4-9 o clock very visibly
NIce review. I'm wondering, is it difficult to remove the rubber strap in order to replace it with a NATO strap and do I need any special tools? Thanks!
+Michael shouldn't be difficult, just need a small screwdriver or to make it easiest, one of those inexpensive pin removal tools available
+Michael spring bar removal tool I meant to say, to make it easier, but a small eyeglass/jewelry screwdriver works too
Thanks!
Where can I buy one? Thanks!
Online. You’re welcome!
how accurate is this watch in timekeeping?
+madox-101 accuracy is legendary. The Orients, also part of the Seiko line, are also on the high end of accuracy. Both are in house Japanese movements. I've read reviews on Amazon where owners of Swiss brand watches costing thousands report that these watches could not match the Seiko and Orient movements in number of consecutive days where time gained was so low.
+porscheoscar true, i can second that...
Where can I find this watch? I never see it in stores.
On the interwebs. Check Jomashop
Thank You --- Snorton' Morton
you have not mentioned the accuracy of this watch (important )
graham toogood mine is as accurate as I expect a $150 watch to be, which is approximately 10 sec off per day, usually better tho.
Why does the date say JUE ...
Means Thursday in spanish
This watch looks amazing on an Oyster bracelet. Type SKX007 oyster into google images... looks almost as good as a rolex Submariner... maybe even better!!! (in my opinion)
+Bazzington James are you joking?
Why would he be joking, Rolex is NOT the holy grail of watches
MrJimmy3459 exactly. You know what is up.
+Bazzington James thanks for the link and have to agree with you.
Can you recommend a place to purchase this watch for $150?
Ebay.
Im from the future. Here in 2021 these sell for 400+
Buy the 150 as soon as possible. And buy as many as possible.
It's a nice watch. I prefer hackable auto movements.
I feel like the lume has a lot to be desired compared to other seiko watches
Ephraim Duran ...unsexy but perfect design. Try new straps, looks fantastic with camo Zulu strap!
Well these watches shot straight up in value. Cheapest one on Amazon you find is north of 500 bucks..
Just bought a new one for $350.
Does this watch have a hacking second?
+Kevin Lee no, unfortunately not...
I personally prefer the SKX009 with Pepsi color-schemed dial. Awesome watch.
Yeah 009 is also a stunning watch.. Do you know where can i get both of them? I'm from switzerland and i don't find a shop anywhere:S... I dont want to buy it online i look for a store...
rado19901 Sorry. I don't know. I ordered mine online (Amazon) and it arrived VERY quickly and cost me less than $200USD. Love it.
the legend starts on skx007 with unlimited mods, the seiko turtle watch is good too because of its cushion case but I still like the skx007 because of the blend of case and bezel and dial I prefer more to see the face of the watch than the case so the skx007 is the standard of all moddings in the watch world
+rado19901 try creation watches. Great service
Boris Terekidi i love the 009 but i feel like the 007 is more versatile if it's your only watch. You can wear it with anything and anywhere, especially with different nato / stainless bracelets since it's black
Avec Seiko on ne peu faire qu'en bon choix ç'est du fiable !
Is this watch bilingual?
Center of the horology universe, perfect.
why the outdated movement and the Hardlex scratch magnet
chrystal.
Also, the lollipop on the back of the secondhand?
Nice looking, but only ok in use if you wear it all the time as it can't be handwound. Just sayin 's all.
neil piper In dive watch better scratches than shattered crystal. Sapphire is easier shattering. And second hand lollipop is for assuring that watch is working. Losing time without noticing it would be really dangerous in decompression diving. (I guess dive computer is main instrument, watch and pressure meters are spares).
My Casio G-SHOCK is a beater watch. My 007 and 009 aren't beaters to me.
These are more like 200$
+TheFiendRacer Even more now and surely where I live
+TheSpearsProductions that 'now'part is referring to the fact that they aren't made anymore as far as I know, you can't buy one on the official site.
***** haha I want to buy one (with the metal bracelet) I have found a new one online from a watch dealer in Belgium (where I live) the site says that I'd have to wait 2 to 8 days, I'll give it a try.
+TheSpearsProductions they go for about 300 euros, that's more in Dollars but only just.
+TheFiendRacer Yep. At cheapest you can get it for 170-200€/$. And in some stores can be as high as 300-500€ price.
mine is losing about a minute a day ??? any advice I've read getting watch regulated can be troublesome
It's not a chronometer; +/- 1 minute per day is well within reason for a watch at this price point. If you want more accuracy without spending a lot more money, you'll need to get a quartz watch.
That said, if you want to have it accurized, a watchmaker can do it, but it takes time and time equals money. The watch will need to be disassembled, the balance spring will have to be made perfectly concentric, the balance wheel will have to be poised, all the wheels will need to be corrected for end shake and the jewels for depth, etc. Figure $100 to $200.
Thanks.. I guess you're right although this differs from previous advice, I think I'll just live with turning it forward every two days !!
John McGrath. I set my Seiko 5 every morning; it gains about 50 seconds per day, but even though I'm a watchmaker it's just not worth my trouble to crack it open and play with it. Maybe come winter, when I'm staying at home on a snow day I might...but I might not.
I love the Seiko 007 but a tad disappointed at time loss!! It flagged approx 15secs a day on web site. It is a tough watch so I'll live with it, anyway my next buy will be the Casio gsts 110 1a..steel watch....thanks for info.
Timing adjustments really aren't that troublesome, I work for a watchmaker and we do it all the time. The 7S movement series takes us like 10 minutes and we can get it down to about 5 seconds per day
Beautiful watch..👍👍 but dump them compressed tyre straps.. They are horrific😂😂
damn - 5 years later and the SKX007 is going for $390
it's now near $280 price
ups!! The band is upside down...
skx007 gets more beautiful as it gets older I think about a steampunk watch in bioshock 1
rave master absolute classic
Nice watch, iconic by now. No way this goes with a suit. For that you need a dress watch, like a Seiko cocktail hour
With a suit? I will not be wearing mine anytime soon with a suit
It’s just a classic . Simple
Had this one back in high school. It may be a classic to some but it definitely needs an upgrade. These days, I'll pass especially due to Seiko's poor quality control.
>$150
$300 in 2020 if you're lucky to snatch one as it's discontinued.
comparable to the Orient Ray
silkhead44 SKX is more rugged and durable and also ISO rated, but I think a lil less pretty.
silkhead44 I think the skx came before the ray though
Newer recommend old technology watches, those are old automatic. they are inaccurate and need servicing and that cost extra money.
If only the white was replaced by silver :( It would look amazing.......
MrSpycore You're an absolute fucking moron.
Jacob Palmer So you think the silver is a bad idea, then???
Lol I wish I could've bought mine for $150 ahaha. Now that they're discontinued I payed $325!!
300 here, for K jubilee. They had the J version for 350 plus shipping and tax so I passed on that. Life is odd, I couldnt afford the thing at 150 at the time and always wanted it, now I can spend 300 for the same watch no problem. The new sports 5 offerings just dont have the style of this one IMO.
I love this watch, but I can't get over the day-date, it just screams seiko 5
Nice review and a good beater SKX but i don't like it.The SRP models have the same price but a better -4R36 movement, witch is hacking and very accurate;the dial of the SKX is matte/plain not sunburst;it has the generic cheap/but accurate/7S26 mvnt found in all auto Seikos under 100$ -this movement is not thick ,but the SKX is and even more so on a NATO.It is 200m WR yet not a screw down crown. The style is a touch too cheesy as well.
Not sure of its durability, but the Orient Mako seems to be a better choice. The ones on an ugly rubber strap are VERY cheap and available.
$150? Now it goes for $250 and that is the cheapest you can get it for.
I hate the gigantic deep dish indexed chapter ring. The watch would be 100x better with a slimmer stainless steel chapter ring.
Jacob Palmer Best not buy it then.
+Jacob Palmer There is a watch like that. It's the Submariner. Ofcourse, it doesn't belong in the same universe with the 007.
Mustapha Sabli actually the rings are entirely different. the submariner has a nice steel ring while the seiko has a plastic-looking deep dish ring with second markers.
+Jacob Palmer it does. that said, i hope u realize the sub is a 6k usd watch while the seiko is 150usd. now, how is it not different? there is the Grand SeikoSbga029/31 that bested the sub in everything except its bracelet construction. n its actually cheaper by a bit.
Mustapha Sabli no idea what the fuck you're talking about. make sense man
Rodania is better
Execution of the case.
iconic should read archaic
Reason why SKX is not a Prospex? The shit ass 7S26. It just die!
In 2024 these sell for $1500.
Who wants to pay $60 for a bracelet after buying watch for $150 to 200 dollars
Cheap a$$
Me. Great watch, excellent value.
