- after some investigation I was able to get to the root cause of my clutch issues. You MUST take the proper measurements when installing clutches to ensure you will have the proper engagement.
I'm sorry you have ASR lol. Just picked me up a 2000 z28, same color 6spd 😎
Was your pilot bearing still there?
i just bought a c5 z06 and clutch slips on it in 3-6th gear. Clutch disengages in the first 1-2 inches of pushing the petal.... Wonder if i have the same issue with to much engagement when the clutch isn't being pressed? when i bought it the guy had just replaced the slave cylinder, said the clutch plate looked good.
Yeah sounds like not enough throw out bearing air gap
What kind of monster clutch did you choose and how do you like it?
Monster stage 2 single disk, I love it. Drives like stock, but handles the power well
So wait, if your clutch was still technically engaged WITHOUT a shim...wouldn't putting a shim... i.e moving it closer to the clutch, make it even worse???
Correct.
Not having the correct shim on slave cylinder would that cause it too blow and leak?
It would have to be way out of tolerance to blow, it would damage the pressure plate before that I would think
I’m about to install my monster S single disc. (Updated stage 2) they didn’t give me a shim, did you need a shim?
Make sure to take the measurements to see where you're at, I would follow this guide ls1tech.com/forums/manual-transmission/1030815-does-your-clutch-setup-need-shim.html
@@C5Zautoxandtrack just got home from a 15 hour road trip, thank you sir. Got those instructions with the kit was just curious about you having a shim
@@C5Zautoxandtrack I’ve never swapped a clutch before, but after watching your video I’m confident I can do it. I just did poly motor mounts which was an absolute nightmare. This can’t be even close to as bad lol
@@galvinSPORTS911 its not a bad job. Just have some Ling extensions for the top bell housing bolts, and have a plan to get the trans back in. Getting it lined up and seated is the hard part
@@C5Zautoxandtrack I bought a 20” extension and I have a 4 or 5” Might have to run to the shop and grab another 5”, thank you for your video. It’s very helpful to see it being done. It’s always easier coming out than it is going back in. Every time I take something off I tell myself wow that was easy, it’ll be easy to go back into. 🙄🤣
