Putin’s New T-14 Armata Tank Has Been ‘Unleashed’ In Ukraine

  • As of July 2023, it is uncertain whether Armata tanks have started participating in direct combat. There are several potential reasons for their non-involvement so far. One possibility is that Russia, being aware of the advanced technologies incorporated into its next-generation tank, aims to prevent it from falling into Ukrainian hands in close combat situations. As of now, there have been no open-source reports or documented instances of an Armata tank being destroyed, abandoned, or captured in Ukraine. The introduction or potential engagement of the T-14 Armata raises crucial questions regarding the fleet's size and the effectiveness of its technologies. The exact number of T-14 tanks operated by Russia remains unclear. Even if these main battle tanks are indeed deployed in combat, their quantity may not be significant enough to create a substantial impact. Various news reports suggest that the Kremlin initially placed orders for several thousand T-14 Armatas to be produced several years ago, but the timeline for their arrival appears uncertain and may have been extended beyond 2025. Consequently, determining the exact size of Russia's T-14 force proves challenging.

While I don't intend to defend Russia, it's worth noting that Russia primarily employs T62 and T55 tanks for indirect fire, specifically in the context of artillery operations, rather than for direct confrontations. The direct confrontation involves the utilization of T-90, T-80, and T-72B3. This is Ukrainian propaganda meant to discourage the Russian Army.

Yes, the T55's and T62's have been supporting assault troops as indirect fire. The T80s and T72's have been doing the donkey work although the T90s have been seen on the battlefield. I saw drone footage of a T90 getting hit 19 times by ATW, it still continued on its mission and withdrew in good order, I'm not sure how the crew fared but they were still operating the machine. The T90 and T14 are the first tanks to be built by any nation for the modern era. I note Russia has also ramped up tank production and as well as their 10,000 various tanks in reserve, they are making 900 new tanks a year, doesn't look like Russia is running out of anything for now.

Obviously, Russia needs to test the T-14 in combat. That being said, all new tanks have teething problems when first deployed. Currently there is not a good situation to try the Armata as it is designed for tank on tank combat and we are not seeing much of that. The current tanks that are used for direct and indirect support are much cheaper and are doing what is required. Once some portion of the front is breached and the fight becomes more mobile and the probability of tank on tank combat goes up, that would be the time to test the T-14.

      @cornelkittell9926 9 месяцев назад +1

@ I would say that the design of the T-14, as with most tanks is to overcome other tanks. Certainly, they will spend much of their time in infantry support. Maybe, sometime acting like artillery for indirect support. But their main purpose is to fight other tanks. That's why I said there has really not been a good time to use them thus far. You need a much more mobile scenario when the tanks can come together head to head. And with the way war is changing, as we see in this war, we may be returning to WWI rather than WWII situations.

The Leopard, Abrams, Challenger and probably the Amata are too heavy for many bridges and too bulky for some railway tunnels, that was also the case with the British Conqueror, which was otherwise a good tank. I doubt if M.B tanks will be much use in future wars.

For what reason should the Russians use their most modern tanks, when it is perfectly sufficient to successfully fight
the western main battle tanks even with the somewhat older tanks...
The German LEOPARD 2 tanks burn just as well as the Swedish CV90, 8 (in words: eight!!) of which were destroyed by
a single Russian tank (seen here on YT on some channels covering not only western UKRAINE- bring propaganda)...
Even the modernized T - 72 from POLAND are not "game changers"...
Of the LEOPARD tanks delivered from POLAND, 8 tanks arrived already broken in UKRAINE...
It's actually like this...: The West uses the UKRAINE as a junkyard for disposing of old war toys. RUSSIA is now behaving
    much more intelligently.
The Russian army "reactivates" the stored models and studies the already captured Western "top models" to find their
weak points, in order to then fight them successfully and inexpensively with the already old RPG-7 anti-tank rifles...
SHOIGU inspected a CV90 (which the Russians captured) today and had it explained to them what the RUSSIANs found
to be weak points in this "west's most modern infantry fighting vehicle"...
The Americans have already brought a T-90 like a trophy from UKRAINE to the USA to study its technology (and it's not
even the most modern tank in the Russian army!)...
Well, we're happy to help, wherever we can!
The T-90 is still more modern than the latest ABRAMS version and the Americans are keen to avoid such images as the
ones with the burning LEOPARD tanks...

    • @h.-u.spengler6366
      @h.-u.spengler6366 9 месяцев назад +7

"Thinner armor" is not always automatically worse armor...
RUSSIA has the appropriate raw material resources to work with much stronger metals (titanium?) in
combination with other lighter composites in order to achieve these very good core data (range, cross-
country ability, maneuverability and armor) in the T-14 ARMATA.. .
In contrast, the ABRAMS, CHALLENGER and the German LEOPARD are much too sluggish ...
WHY is the West now so "worried" that the Ukrainian "counteroffensive" won't be successfully ended in
      time before autumn/winter?
It is well known at NATO that the RUSSIANS get along very well with these times of the year, in contrast
to the UKRAINIANS, whose weapon systems are pretty to look at, but which cannot be used in the cold
      seasons under real war conditions...
We'll see it this winter, I'm absolutely convinced!
In the spring of 2024 the situation will be completely different from what we are experiencing now and

Armata is the most armored of any tank in the world. It is built around surving AT weapons.
      Why?
The turret is unmanned. It is only armored to stop autocannons or missiles through the APS but if damaged can merely be swapped out. The tank is not killed.
The frontal armor of armata on the hull is better armored than any tank including Challenger. 900mm vs Kinetic, there's no other tanks with this on the hull.
This means a hit armata can simply retreat once turret is breached by sabot and swap it out. It is the most protected tank of the modern era.
People say armor is useless because every hull is currently outdated and obsolete for anything prior to armata and maybe Challenger 2 [which is still very old]
No Challenger 2s have been knocked out on ukraine side. Lighter armored Leopards have. It is quite the contrary: armor and APS are more vital than ever.

This video strengthened in me the feeling that how much tanks are obsolate in the modern battlefields. Instead of developing these behemoths you should better use the modern RPG-s (Javelin, NLaw, Carl Gustav etc.) for the fraction of the price of a modern MBT and for sure you will shoot out the tank to become a scrap-steel. If still you are connected to these mammoths then forget the turret, put forward the engine (like in the Merkava line) and use them as troop-carriers, infantriy armored vehicles, whereas each soldier has got an e.g. Javelin over their regular arms, and arriving to the battlefield they take positions to wait for the enemy-tanks. Then they shoot two Javelins against one tank, and one Javlin will shoot out the tank for sure.

This tank is heavily reliant on western technologies and will not be any better than any other modern tank that is on the field today. It is still vulnerable to top down attacks as if the turret is damaged or destroyed, the tank will be out of the fight just like any other tank would be.
