Man, in Engineering, getting to that foam square is so damn hard
I am designing a very very simple board, but because I want to understand most of what im doing and to do it right, its taking me a year to do what can be done in 2 weeks
If they just slapped the liquid metal and some random foam it's something else, but I guarantee there was a lot of work to get here. Calculating how much liquid metal to use, making sure the foam is chemically compatible and wont crumble in 10 years, etc etc

If anyone is interested, the "liquid metal" is just gallium, a relatively common and harmless element that you can buy on ebay or amazon for very cheap. As long as you build a proper enclosure for it, you can theoretically do this on your own pc.

Most liquid metal thermal compounds are a mix of gallium, indium, and tin. Not just gallium, though it is usually the most prominent ingredient.
Gallium will react and form an alloy with aluminum though and it's highly recommended that you only use it with nickle-plated heatsinks.
@@kevadu So as long as your heatsink is nickel plated or has a copper base, you should be fine?
@@lilfingas A pure copper base is better than aluminum, certainly, but liquid metal can still leave permanent stains on it that don't come off even with things like acetone. But those stains don't seem to really affect thermal performance so as long as you're OK with that it should be OK.

You can get console-tier performance PCs for much less money than you'd think, and more powerful PCs at your own convenience depending on your budget (if you build or upgrade yourself). That's before talking about the prices of games themselves: discounted games alone eventually offset the costs of console gaming, and retrocompatibility being close to a non-issue makes the value of PC increase. The versatility is another factor in the value of a PC. Can your console do this?! _(Opens Photoshop)_
It's yet to be seen how powerful the PS5 and XBsX are really, and considering their power budgets and die sizes, I don't see how they can do 4k 60FPS but in medium-weighted games, or with dubious, locked graphics settings. Sony saying they targeted 4k 60FPS doesn't mean it will be the case for every game. That's the problem with something we call "marketing". I suppose PC gamers are much more accustomed to varying performance depending on the game itself.

Nothing destroyed there. He can easily put it back together. His fears about the liquid metal are unfounded. You can just wipe the existing LM with alcohol and apply new one (Thermal Grizzly Conductonaut or any other LM). Cheaper method would be to take qtip and rewipe the already applied LM. Thanks to the foam barrier, there is no danger to spill on other components than the die.
