Watching this video a few days after finally getting a PS5. I’m very very happy to experience new and improved hops in consoles. What I mean is just the tottal difference between the last gen and now. The 7th and 8th generation of consoles I look at like generation 5 and 6. Improved for a more control and the idea and development of complexity. This generation (I’ll even say for both teams) is a huge step in a new wave of gaming.
This reminds me of listening to John Carmack. Everything they say is so lucid and clear, no matter how technical and complicated. And it comes naturally, the entire 5+ hour interview with Carmack on Lex Fridman is basically a masterpiece of lucidity and intelligence, no matter what you throw at him. I am just glad these people exist.
The Audio and the haptics on the controller made me get one. Was going for the xbox but after testing out both, I really enjoy the PS5 way more. Also doesn't help that I have a monster PC that can play xbox games. The haptics on the controller for single player games really immerses you into the game even though it is subtle on most titles.
They're the two things that STOPPED me getting one. I don't want yet more useless gimicks like that stupid touchpad to get in the way of my games and take me out of the experience hen I'm forced to use them.
I'm happy for you and all, but I've played a good bit of games utilizing the full spectrum of PS5 haptics... and it's completely overrated. It's the SSD that really amazes me.
"3d audio" is a gimmick, no game actually uses it. haptics and trigger effects are also a useless gimmick that reduce the lifespan of the controller (internal plastic gears will only last so long before cracking due to friction) and mind you the lifespan on the controller is already known to be short (on average just 417 hours of use before drifting occurs).

@@damianm2896Pretty sure iIt was within Mark Cerny's Road To PlayStation 5 video
@@damianm2896 no, it's not gow as it already had a 60 fps option on PS4 pro
@@souravkamila4680 I know. He was talking about this story BEFORE the patch tho. And I think he's referencing it in the video. Notice he said "to fix it" when describing it, so it is a game that's patched. It's not bb
I love how he is so knowledgeable and he can really connect the tech to the function so seamlessly, that is how you know he knows every detail of what he says.
Also his voice is so calming lol
This is one of the few times I watched a real technical video and concentrating. Kudos to the editors too.
I’m more of an Xbox guy, but huge respect for this guy
Same, but this gen i decided to go with PlayStation (haven't had one since PS2).
this is so cool. ratchet and clank rift apart seriously takes the most and best advantage of everything here. amazing console.
ratchet rift apart is a tech demo pretending to be a game. 10 hours long experience for $70? no thanks.
@@ps5hasnogames55 no one asked you
What a dude! Can't wait to listen to him talk about PS6!
Such a talented guy! First starred as Garth in Wayne's World, now a system architect for the PS5. :)
Just what I was thinking :D
Protect.
Mark Cerny.
At.
All.
Cost.
I want him on the team that makes the next PS6 in x years.
Not rly sure but i think nobody really cares what you want
Mark Cerny has been working on PlayStation since the early 1990s he's pretty much the unofficial vice president on the technical side for the entire division of course you will see him in the team that builds the PlayStation 6
Amazing insight into the things happening in the console world
PC was doing all the same things since 2017 lol, console kids are still playing catch-up
@@ps5hasnogames55 It's all about optimizations. What didn't you learn? You can spec this or that up, but if parts don't talk together well enough or utilizes the power well enough, it's gonna be sub-par. Trust me.
Amazing speaker and presenter. What a treasure trove of knowledge and experience!
Congratulations for the PS5. I can't wait to see the Unreal 5 games running on the architecture you and your team have designed.
Unreal 5 could be a game changer. Exciting times
@@kusayfarhan9943 It already is a game changer.
the renders i seen on yt using that engine is insane
i've gotta say that the haptic feedback and the adaptive trigger on the dualsense wireless controller is really impressive!
2:00 i loved when they highlighting the unskippable cutscene with tidus laughing. lol.
This guys incredible! I hope he works on the PlayStation 6 to. Extremely informative bit of content!

@@Nekiplex missing out on what? playing ps4 games with more glithces since the backwards compatibility was half-baked and rushed? ps5 has no games kid.
Can listen to him talk all day at a press conference
Love this dude. Honest. Smart. Communicates perfectly.
honest unlike that clown named jim ryan who has done nothing but tank the reputation of playstation
Skyrim anniversary on ps5 is a great example of the compression. It’s only 16gb with all dlc and creation content combined. I thought I was mistaken
I was amazed to know that small passages in games are for covering renders for the next scene. That's absolutely genius!
A genius, who is also a fantastic communicator. That is rare...really rare...😮
true. so many scientists are horrible at expressing their research to the average person.
Nice! In Mark Cerny we trust.
@Vicky Bengali Get lost, troll.
Yo I was there during Mark's PS5 dev talk, it had more complex jargon but this really summarized what was covered. Very nice!
I am just glad these people exist.
yes
Can't wait for Digital Foundry to analyse the framerate and resolution of this video
Always great to listen to Mark Cerny, especially on systems design.
that lowkey flex at 3:02 he pulls up with where he states they 10x the read speed
The 'Spider-Man riding subway" part made me snicker
Mark is a genius on what he has done with PS5! Love my PS5👍
PS5 Pro will come next
@Vicky Bengali when did I say I was a genius ?
@Vicky Bengali different like what ? I just said the man is a genius on what he has done with PS5.
The person that wrote the closed captions labeled "NVMe SSD" as "NBME SSD" at 3:03, which is an astonishing mistake for WIRED to make
my dissatisfaction is immeasurable and my day is ruined.
Even though I barley understood a lot of what he was saying I was still hooked the whole video
Yeah, something about Intelligent and charismatic people just makes you really hooked… lol
Mark is the best. Because he still plays video games, he truly understands what we want
Step by step, they're getting closer and closer to the full 3D immersion.
@@zybch You can turn them off you know…
@@zybch the TouchPad has been there since PS4 lol.
Specs:

04:58 - CPU
06:23 - GPU
08:39 - Ray Tracing

12:40 - Dualsense Wireless Controller
I’m pretty convinced that these things are an urban myth
Jesus. Me too dude. So frustrating.
I got mine about a month after they came out, had to camp outside a Walmart for 10 hours in 35 degree weather tho
12+ million sold. Would be significantly more sold/available if the supply chain wasn't borked during pandemic.
@@griffgames9538 it’s not about the amount they’ve sold (it’s done even better than the PS4 sales when it released), the problem is how many scalpers take a huge chunk of them
@@wilocentenodroz9810 The component shortage represents several million consoles behind. Scalpers aren't sitting on millions of consoles as we speak - that wouldn't make sense. It would be bad business for them.

Well that one aged like a bottle of milk left open at room temp for a week huh
I could listen to Mark and John Carmack talk tech anytime.
