I now have this game in my possession for Switch and PS5. Now that I'm getting used to the new mechanics and of course getting used to how training works? I can safely say everything you say is absolutely spot on. The only two things I wish they did were allowing you to train on places outside towns and cities, also, they should allow you to choose which song you want playing in the background while you Duke it out. That and setting optimum equipment should be an option.

Thanks, not only for this vid, but your passion for the game. We are still out there publishers. We still love these games.❤
Dang right we do! Just know this one does a lot of things unusually, but every system runs deeper. Like it's one of those where they reworked the original in so many clever ways that even many long timers thought stuff was gone, when it was just reworked somewhere else. You rarely see a remake that understood the original versions well enough to recontextualize what was already there over just doing something different entirely. I LOVE these kinds of remakes.
As someone who was a fan all the way back in the PS1 era, I am so incredibly happy we get all these new versions of TO. Although I cant but help and wonder if we will get a new installment after this. The only reason I didnt keep my original purchased version of TO for PS1 was because of a memory card bug, I was very young and didnt realize that the 'clear colored' memory cards wouldnt load data correctly (for some reson) and if you had the grey humdrum card it was fine. I have since acquired each version though and am a big fan of this series.
@@CoffeePotato Yeah I went through like 10 copies of TO at the store back in the day because it just wouldn't load the data. Come to find out it was just the fancy Sony Clear memory cards that were f'ed. I found this out years later when I ran into the same issue after buying a used copy and trying my colored card again. Same issue, swapped to the grey one and it was fine. I got BOF3 instead of TO at the time and was happy with BOF3 as well, but sure wished I kept my original TO copy.
Regarding fewer skill slots. Sometimes giving fewer slots can lead to more depth. Case in point, Disgaea. Which lets a unit do pretty much everything at the same time, yet build making in those games is really hollow. Depth needs options, but they also need dilemmas. In the case of this game, do I want a 2 hander to deal more damage? Do I want 2 weapons for more passives and finishers. Everything covered in this game looks to have been properly thought out. Which is really nice. There is also the fact that there is indivdiual levelling now. You can can still have a "strengthened" Archer by levelling as a berserker a bunch of times. Most of those passives are now completely unnecessary in the new skill system and would be nice if the detractors could acknowledge this. However, the spoilers in this review for Fire Emblem was not ideal. Given that that game is extremely likely to have a remake in development, according to a very reliable leak, it is getting the Echoes Treatment.
I wasn't sure how this would end up comparing to the PSP version, but this vid def cemented that I can feel secure going for Reborn for when I finally play TO (might be neat to circle around back to PSP one day though, they seem like very different games).
It definitely kept the important stuff, improved a lot of issues, and just generally massively improved it. It's not like absolutely nothing was removed, but overall it's a straight positive move, if that makes sense. They added way more than got left behind. I think we can live without Bewitch having a slow Loyalty drain function in favor of just straightforward Charm doing more. Losing Poison and Envenom to scaling Poison is just more logical, and makes it feel super threatening. Bind/Shackle/Stop basically did the same thing with minor tweaks, and over wrote each other, but now literally are just Stop. That kind of stuff. I know I still play the other versions, but when I want to sit down for the best experience, I turn on Reborn.
@@CoffeePotato That's great to hear, makes sense to trim the fat when you have a lot going on if you wanna avoid redundancy. I feel like before Reborn I was like "well PSP is the way to go, but OV seems like it fixes stuff, but maybe a mod isn't ideal for a first run" and now Reborn just made my choices easier haha

So, are there still stories, or just more quests? Thanks for your great enthusiasm for this. I know I’ll be up at midnight tonight, trying to start my first playthrough!
Oh don't worry, it ain't just random battles. Also, going back in time can also be considered post game content, since you unlock it only after getting through 1 route, any route.
Oh, absolutely. Only half of the post game is canon, but it goes wild with fun maps, new mechanics, and narrative. It was hard to get into in the original versions, but it's a smooth transition now. It feels fantastic to jump into, bringing forward the fun challenges, while smoothing out the weird level bumps from before.
I bought the digital to start at midnight and my steelbook is coming from UK lol. I'll buy a third on PS5 if they will remake Vagrant Story or a spiritual successor. So pumped
Hey buddy! Nice job! Still not watched part 2 yet, but do you know if they kept the chaos frame system? Thinking about recruit cressida already hahahahaha sorry for my bad english!
Told my wife I was taking Friday off for this, and her reaction: “For a game?”. To say nothing of my having taken a day off before for just a new Pokémon release. I don’t think I could explain how distracted I would be at work, for this game in particular. Or even explain how much this is not “just a game”. 😊
Got this back on the ps1. Play this to death. Even finish the end game death dungeon. A massive time sink for sure. One surprise I remember is how to make angel from a dying unit or undead.
It's quite the thing, and way the hell smoother this time around. You might have an easier time just recruiting Angels with a priest in the end game. The process of making one is presumably the complex method used by the PSP version (Kill unit, bring back as undead, strip away the undead bits with a Book of the Dead, bring skelly to heaven, and give him a Vagrant Story reference.).
I think they also have to have warrior class or training. It happens literally after they die. They automatically resurrect into an Angel. Crazy mechanics.
Only 4? Dude, PoTD is my address, that's where I live lol Well, not really, but my good friend Mr. N. certainly lives there with a few of his mates. Quite a good company. I be paying them multiple, way over 4, visits for sure😂
Never played it, but I was interested in getting the game since it influenced a Final Fantasy spin-off which I didn't played either but I like the concept itself.
There's a lot more to it than that. I'd highly recommend taking a peek at the currently ongoing Resonant Arc podcast for watching folks realize in real time how deep it goes.
How fast would you say can you get through battles on average with the speed boost? And how about time to complete one run through the game if you had to guess?
dumb question, but is there an easy way to see what different statuses (spellstrike, sidestep, etc.) do when I’m in a shop and elsewhere? Using the help menu doesnt seem to provide any additional information
@@luke4010 It should be preloaded then and just have to check tomorrow to make sure it's playable since PS and Switch both preload preorders. I'm assuming you preordered.
Dear Coffee , thank for this video, I LOVE the PSP version and I will play it anyway even when I will start tomorrow this incredible remaster, this is my favourite game of all time. I need to ask you something strange and I hope I can explain you well what I mean: We know that we have a limited stock of items per battle: 4 in total oder each unit. What I ask to myself and to you is: when we have that " a lot of undead situation" plus some normal enemies like octopus or dragons or whatever ( but I can say in general too, I mean other situations that require many items) how we can handle that situation? I mean, on LUCT I used to have many MP items, or HP items, revival items ( I used it many times) and most important, scrolls, because not every unit has exorcism and cost a lot. I know that the level cap is up to...99? So we will have a lot more MP, but to have a fully " bar " we need many items ( I think the rarest MP items is 150 MP at once) many potions, many scrolls or even if we need to take the buff from tarot cards ( teleport, the ability to go through water ecc) , so....with only 4 slots...how we can manage this thing? Is my biggest doubt by far..
goshdarnnit why did i have to stumble upon your video? i already promised maself not to buy ogre and wait for fft lions remake. but now... i mean customized weapons and armors? on the edge of clicking that buy button,

Oh...those No Incap No Chariot titles are going to be hard. The difficulty is super legit.
Hey buddy! Nice job! Still not watched part 2 yet, but do you know if they kept the chaos frame system? Thinking about recruit cressida already hahahahaha sorry for my bad english!
They did, but with no random Galgistani tanking your CF in grind fights, it should be all down to intentional choices.
Can it be tomorrow when I get off work already please, I want to play this so bad now
Paradigm Shift 800 times until time travel.
I’m a nerd and took tomorrow and Monday and Tuesday off so I can have some time to play this game.
Told my wife I was taking Friday off for this, and her reaction: “For a game?”.
To say nothing of my having taken a day off before for just a new Pokémon release.
I don’t think I could explain how distracted I would be at work, for this game in particular. Or even explain how much this is not “just a game”. 😊
@@Scuderia-hy4zu Hehehehe totally empathize.
Same here!!!! Well, I have Friday and Saturday asked off with vacation pay. So stoked!
Is LV40 the maximum for the whole game (or: What is the level cap for characters/union)? Thanks for the review!
Seems to be 50 for units, 40 for skills. It's balanced to max around end game this time, with post game and NG+ (World) getting new gear mechanics.
@@CoffeePotato Thank you!
I am impressed you were able to keep all these secret until the embargo was lifted lol.
@@CoffeePotato Don't forget had to be female & lawful.
I think they also have to have warrior class or training. It happens literally after they die. They automatically resurrect into an Angel. Crazy mechanics.
Another 4 rounds of Palace of the Dead? Heck Yeah!
Only 4? Dude, PoTD is my address, that's where I live lol
Well, not really, but my good friend Mr. N. certainly lives there with a few of his mates.
I wanna know what the dragon things is that he's trying to do with all those dragons
cant' wait. the mailman better be on schedule tomorrow :P
i really wish the level cap was higher than 50
How fast would you say can you get through battles on average with the speed boost? And how about time to complete one run through the game if you had to guess?
Chapter 1 took about 1.5 hours in the original. I would assume you could get through it in maybe 40 minutes.
Game arrived a Day early. See you on the other side in 100+ hours
dumb question, but is there an easy way to see what different statuses (spellstrike, sidestep, etc.) do when I’m in a shop and elsewhere? Using the help menu doesnt seem to provide any additional information
are you going to be doing a lets play of reborn?
Warren Report channel is doing one LP! Also Yunalescka Games streamer.
2:01 What job class is Rikka? I dont recall ever seeing that portrait b4.
NVM, I found out a few minutes later...
The time has come! the Hype is real!
What do the constantly changing units in the upper right corner mean?
It is his overlay he puts on his videos.
I can't wait to get this on Switch tomorrow. I played FFT to death on ps1. Never got the chance to get this one
You're in for a fantastic time, then! Just know that it's more than a few routes. Everything can adapt, change, have variations, etc.
I am so excited. I hope I can download at midnight
Soon!
If you preordered on PS5 at least, it downloaded and preinstalled yesterday.
@@rct2fanatic I've chosen to get it for switch so I can play it portable!
@@luke4010 It should be preloaded then and just have to check tomorrow to make sure it's playable since PS and Switch both preload preorders. I'm assuming you preordered.
oh this is gonna be fun
Preach ma guy, preach(^^)b
The unbelievers shall open their eyes and ears.
Amen!!
Still my favorite review
Thanks, man! Honestly, while some details may be off after we dug through the mechanics more, I stand by it, this remake really floats my boat.
Dear Coffee , thank for this video, I LOVE the PSP version and I will play it anyway even when I will start tomorrow this incredible remaster, this is my favourite game of all time.
I need to ask you something strange and I hope I can explain you well what I mean:
We know that we have a limited stock of items per battle: 4 in total oder each unit.
Uhm , what do you think about that :)?
Maaaaaan, I hope Tactics Ogre Reborn unlocks at midnight on Switch. I'm gonna be so bored waiting! Lol
Is it true that they completely remove the random battles?
Yes, that is true. So hyped!
They removed some until post game.
Good work
goshdarnnit why did i have to stumble upon your video? i already promised maself not to buy ogre and wait for fft lions remake. but now... i mean customized weapons and armors? on the edge of clicking that buy button,
Do it!
what is the max amount of units you can have, holy cow
Tomorrow's gonna be a fun evening
What's with the blurry box on the screen?
Should be fixed now. I was trying to avoid showing a class I showed for a second.
This isn't for new fans at all lmao, I have no idea what's going on but it's fun how excited the guy is
It is way more beginner friendly than it seems!
At timestamp 11:15 ish. What does he mean by so many dragons, those who know, know. What is the secret?
Just so I know, are those giant boxes blocking my sight are you trying to censor spoilers asked by SE or somthing?
He's trying to censor a very major plot spoiler.
@@des-trina thats what i thought, but the games been out for literally decades, what could there possibly be that isnt known at this point? they literally sad no story was changed.
I was trying to block one scene in particular, but YT bugged out, or I used it wrong. Trying to fix it.
@@CoffeePotato ok gotcha
Why is the dude from KOL on the upper right corner at 10:10
or am i just stupid and that's something you have as an overlay for your vids. anyway, great video!
