i said i'd let you know if i came up with anything to make the shadow clutch better, this trick my not seem like much but since the shadow clutch doesn't fully engage until the end of the throw this actually helps the clutch stay better engaged, i put a heavy return spring on the clutch cable between the cable hold down and clutch arm like the old bike used to have. the reason i came up with this is because i've made so many tweaks to my bike trying to the bike to run like a real 750 that i started to over power the stock clutch from the increased power. even though i have a new clutch and new EBC springs (which are supposed to be 15% stronger, sitting here i had just changed the oil and wanted to stall making the change. in looking at the clutch action i noticed the clutch arm wasn't going back all the way when released so i added the spring and now the clutch is holding again. i figured if it help my situation with an older clutch and springs it should help prolong the life of a newer clutch by helping it stay engaged harder, at least that;s my theory.......

My spirit 750 catches late since I got it a couple months ago at 29k miles. Over 31k miles now and it’s never slipped or anything so I feel maybe it just grabs late like you said. I still will probably do this job asap since it’s easy and the bike is new to me I’d like to get new parts on it
Happy to help. I believe it's a characteristic of the Honda spirit, arrow and VTX set up. Thank you for watching and all your support Ray. Ride safe and have a great day. As long as you don't slip don't bother.
I was going to ask the reason why you did change the clutch kit, since the old ones doesnt look too bad at all,,however you mention the fact that you have to let the clutch lever all the way out to feel grab, and thats exactly my case,,thx for share
Happy to help. If your clutch is not slipping, I would not change the plates., within two weeks. It was the exact same thing as the original clutch. It just catches really late, but it never slipped. I do not like the way that feels. The Clutch engages far out on the handle. I find a lot of Hondas are like that. Thank you for watching all your support Nelson. Ride safe and have a great day. Gonna order my clutch today I’m pretty sure it’s going out takes off fine but when u start accelerating way past the gear change u can hear it like holding it back this is only my 2nd bike but I’m pretty familiar with them so I’ve ridden before and know the difference

@@TwoWheelRoccoit takes off fine nothing there wrong whenever ur going and u get the rpms up it feels like the clutch is pressed in cause it revs up higher and slowly creeps speed but it’s only when ur half throttle or so
Hi from Australia, I’ve got a 2010 vt 750 rs , clutch is fine but I’m getting a tiny amount of slipping under very heavy acceleration. I’m guessing a good thing to do is replace springs and clutch soon . Other wise the clutch is fine in normal riding . I’ve watch your video and will give this a go myself . Thankyou for the tutorial .
Happy to help. How many miles on your Honda? It's normal for these VT 750s to slip a little unless you want to put heavy duty springs in there which will make a stiff Clutch handle. I would leave it alone. If you want to fast bike buy a CBR 1000. Thank you for watching and all your support Thump-Nutz. Ride safe and have a great day.
I broke the clutch plate 2 times and finally put it back together. A while back the pin that pivots fell out and I tried to put it back in aligning with the hole inside for the clutch cable. I installed it tested my clutch but did not adjust it yet. I started the bike, put it in gear and had this serious jerk occur and now the bike is stuck in gear. Of course I can't start the bike either. What should I do?

@@TwoWheelRocco update I'm just now taking the cover off. I'm following by what you said in the video. My clutch plates are not moving. I assume the clutch lifter piece is the root cause because it fell out while I have the crankcase off. I will install back and give you an update.

As your clutch having a 8th is that mean engaging a 8th of pulling in you see it moving down there I feel like the release is late on the bike lurches forward and stalls just want to know how far in it should engage and how far letting out it should release
That is a hard question, certain bikes certain springs that are set up in the clutch usually you'll feel it get used to it and if it's slips, then you have problems and when I mean, slips that your in gear going forward you hit the gas and you feel it slipping. I listen to that video twice I don't hear anything that's that big of a concern, that I haven't heard before and I used to deal with Hondas all the time. They're great bikes, ride and enjoy it or sell it and buy a new one. It is an old bike and it sounded great.
Hello! I have a 2015 Honda Shadow Phantom 750cc. I was riding it recently, stopped for a hike, came back to my bike and it was like the clutch sweet spot that gets it moving had shifted. I had to release far more to get it to engage with the 1st gear. Same for 2nd. I either had to release the clutch more or give it way more gas. 3rd and on seemed fine/normal-ish. Removed, cleaned, and lubed the clutch cable. Placed the cable back on, and added the tension in there. Now i can’t even reach “the sweet spot” or get the bike to move altogether. It’s like it’s not engaging the disks. I added as much tension as possible, still nothing. I turn on the bike, shift it to first, and release the clutch lever all the way and it doesn’t do anything (ie it doesn’t die nor does it start moving). Do you think getting new springs and clutch plates and doing what you did here will solve that problem? Thanks in advance!

Thanks for that@@TwoWheelRocco! I couldn't quite see the product in the video but I could see it was something I had never used before. Two questions: A- Do you think the squeezeout in the interior of the case dissolves in oil, so as not to clog any passages? and B- do you know how it is used as a belt dressing? i.e. is it brushed to increase tack, and if so how is that not just a band-aid instead of removing shims from a pulley or otherwise tightening it properly, or is there a legitimate reason to dress a belt?
I have only used it as a gasket. It's great stuff easy prep. Honda don't use a gasket so that's what I use. I do not know nothing about belt dressing.. Hope that helped. Ride safe and have a great day.@@davidnaisuler5743

Fantastic video! I just finished installing a Barnett kit on a VT750C, and after 2 test rides, it works flawlessly. I am, however, considering tearing it back down to the hub nut to make sure the torque is accurate and to index the nut. I used an impact to tighten the nut back down during the initial install, but was unable to get an accurate reading on account of not having a special tool. What are the symptoms of a loosening hub nut? Could this be a particularly dangerous oversight, if missed?

Hey man, after watching your video (great video by the way), I tried replacing my clutch pack and springs with barnett parts on my 03 shadow and after getting it all back together. The clutch lever doesn't have any resistance. The cable hasn't broken and I tightened everything to spec and adjusted the clutch cable slack to the max. Any ideas as to why?
Happy to help. Sometimes these parts aren't what we think they are. It sounds to me taking it apart and if you have no feel in the clutch handle or resistance, the springs are wrong. Thank you for watching and all your support. Ride safe and have a great day and let us know how it works out.
Ok, I got everything in a complete set from Barnett but I will grab another set of springs and try again. I was also thinking maybe the springs weren't tightened down enough? I torqued them to 9ftlbs?
@@TwoWheelRocco brand:JINFANNIBI i did put new springs but I didn't have any torque measurement tools to see how tight is every thing and I did adjust the cable so if I full throttle the clutch will slip for few seconds then it ll start to work correctly then when i drive normally and then full throttle it it lk slip again for couple seconds then it will correct it self
are the springs much stiffer and would you happen to have the part # of those barnett springs, just curious to see if they are the same or different then the barnett springs i was going to order, i need something stronger then stock for the gears i am running....
These clutch springs are the same performance as the OEM ones. I could've used stiffer springs myself. I hope that helps. Let us know what you end up running. we used to use washers as shims on clutch springs back in the old days on 60's and 70's bikes, i've just never tried it on a newer bike, i've also never seen a bike with just 4 clutch springs, like with honda's decision to go to a single crank pin on the vt750's looks like honda was trying to cut corners everywhere they could...

Good evening, finally got to the job, but for some reason after installing clutch springs back, the plates had movement to them, so i took it apart again but accidentally took the whole thing out alonge with plates up to the chain, is there anything special needs to be done to set it back, those teeth behind the clutch casing now don't line up for some reason, looks like those black star wheels not inline with each other the clutch one seem like did not set all the way in, but there is no wiggling seems like its all the way in, any suggestions?
Look at the bearing plate at about 6 min when you are removing it then go to around 13min when you are replacing it. Clearly not the same. This did not cause any problems?
That hub will move, usually when there's space between the friction plates and the steals is because the pressure plate is not installed properly. Remember when you take this apart, the hub will moves when you tighten hub moves then you put your plates on. It's hard for me from this point. Sorry I couldn't be more helpful.. i said i'd let you know if i came up with anything to make the shadow clutch better, this trick my not seem like much but since the shadow clutch doesn't fully engage until the end of the throw this actually helps the clutch stay better engaged, i put a heavy return spring on the clutch cable between the cable hold down and clutch arm like the old bike used to have. the reason i came up with this is because i've made so many tweaks to my bike trying to the bike to run like a real 750 that i started to over power the stock clutch from the increased power. even though i have a new clutch and new EBC springs (which are supposed to be 15% stronger, sitting here i had just changed the oil and wanted to stall making the change. in looking at the clutch action i noticed the clutch arm wasn't going back all the way when released so i added the spring and now the clutch is holding again. i figured if it help my situation with an older clutch and springs it should help prolong the life of a newer clutch by helping it stay engaged harder, at least that;s my theory.......
Thank you for your input. Ride safe and have a great day.

My spirit 750 catches late since I got it a couple months ago at 29k miles. Over 31k miles now and it’s never slipped or anything so I feel maybe it just grabs late like you said. I still will probably do this job asap since it’s easy and the bike is new to me I’d like to get new parts on it

@@TwoWheelRocco Great thanks for getting back to me. I’ll ride it out until it slips.

Sit on bike and roll bike backwards and try to switch gears that should get you in neutral. Then take the clutch cover off and see what you did. Let us know how that works out. Thank you for watching and your support Brony Bus Fan. Ride safe and have a great holiday.
@@TwoWheelRocco update I'm just now taking the cover off. I'm following by what you said in the video. My clutch plates are not moving. I assume the clutch lifter piece is the root cause because it fell out while I have the crankcase off. I will install back and give you an update.

15:12 is the "clutch lever" supposed to move up and down like that? I don't have any problems but was really curious/ worried. I've got a 2013 honda shadow phantom 750.
Happy to help. I like an 8th inch play on the clutch handle, so when you have your hand on that clutch lever and you pull it in. there should be an 8th inch free play at the handle and everything is fine.
I hope this helps. Thank you for all your support. Any questions just ask. Ride safe and have a great day. I hope that helped.

@@TwoWheelRocco Thanks for the quick reply, Your the man!

@@TwoWheelRocco hello! I
Tried swapping the springs and the clutch plates. Sadly, as I torqued the 4 bolts with the springs to 9 lb-Ft, they all snapped/broke. Ordered a new pressure plate and 4 bolts. It’s a 2015 Honda Shadow Phantom 750cc. Do you think the torque spec might be different for my bike? Havent been able to find a full blown manual for that exact year/model. Thanks for all your help! I wouldn’t have gotten this far without ya.

Brother I sure could use your help right now. I'm putting in a new clutch in my 2004 Honda Shadow vt750. I did everything exactly the way you did put it all back together and now I don't have a clutch. It will not disengage. I took it all back apart again went through it piece by piece and make sure I did everything right and then put it back together again. Same old thing when I pull the clutch lever the clutch does not disengage. Any suggestions? I sure could use your help brother.

Thanks for that@@TwoWheelRocco! I couldn't quite see the product in the video but I could see it was something I had never used before. Two questions:
A- Do you think the squeezeout in the interior of the case dissolves in oil, so as not to clog any passages? and
B- do you know how it is used as a belt dressing? i.e. is it brushed to increase tack, and if so how is that not just a band-aid instead of removing shims from a pulley or otherwise tightening it properly, or is there a legitimate reason to dress a belt?

Question, why did you replace that clutch cause the look of it and age of bike looked pretty decent? I just did my 84 750 Shadow yesterday and it's the original OEM plates I took out...definitely got their monies worth outta them ones! Regardless the replacement is sooooooooooooooo much better....power to rear tire is now so much better no slipping!
LOL at the end that little burn out flinging everything into the wind....LOVE IT! Oh I have a hydraulic clutch on mine hence why I've no springs...guess I'm lucky for that I guess!
Happy to help. They didn't like where the clutch was engaging, That's why we put a new plate steals and springs. Thank you for watching all your support Roger. ride safe and have a great day.
Pretty interesting; got an 85 500 that's been sitting because of this only her big sister gets to have fun. We can't leave that way can we?
Thanks for all the info man

Could you do a video on replacing a stator on a Honda shadow spirit vt750c2?
I'll put that on my list. And when I run into such a situation I will do a video. Ride safe and have a great day. Thank you for watching.
Really good explanation

Hey man, after watching your video (great video by the way), I tried replacing my clutch pack and springs with barnett parts on my 03 shadow and after getting it all back together. The clutch lever doesn't have any resistance. The cable hasn't broken and I tightened everything to spec and adjusted the clutch cable slack to the max. Any ideas as to why?
Happy to help. Sometimes these parts aren't what we think they are. It sounds to me taking it apart and if you have no feel in the clutch handle or resistance, the springs are wrong. That's what it sounds to me. Let us know how it works out. Take a closer look at those springs that's what controls the pressure on those friction plates in your clutch.
Take apart, reinstall, something wrong with the specs on the springs. Let us know how it works out.
After I replaced my clutch and the steel rings it slips really bad when I push for full throttle or high RPM what should I do
What type of clutch did you buy? name brand. And did you put new springs in?
Did you adjust Cable right ? And put everything correct?

@@TwoWheelRocco brand:JINFANNIBI i did put new springs but I didn't have any torque measurement tools to see how tight is every thing and I did adjust the cable so if I full throttle the clutch will slip for few seconds then it ll start to work correctly then when i drive normally and then full throttle it it lk slip again for couple seconds then it will correct it self
@@ahadseder When you set the springs up, if I understand you right, you never torque them? Did you replace the steels? Back it all lead to a problem.
are the springs much stiffer and would you happen to have the part # of those barnett springs, just curious to see if they are the same or different then the barnett springs i was going to order, i need something stronger then stock for the gears i am running....
These clutch springs are the same performance as the OEM ones. I could've used stiffer springs myself. I hope that helps. Let us know what you end up running. When everything seated in place about a week or two later, who is almost the same as the old Clutch engagement. It's a big ordeal with these Hondas and they're soft clutches which equals not engaging until the end of the clutch lever travel.Hope this help.
@@TwoWheelRocco since i am running 18/38 highway gears my clutch problem is exaggerated . luckily my 2000 vt750 only has 10k miles so the clutch is holding but barely and i don't find any heavier springs available, since you've had yours apart do you think there is enough room to put washers on the springs without them binding?
This I don't know about. If it did work, people would be doing it by now and not buying sprigs. Let us know how it works out.
we used to use washers as shims on clutch springs back in the old days on 60's and 70's bikes, i've just never tried it on a newer bike, i've also never seen a bike with just 4 clutch springs, like with honda's decision to go to a single crank pin on the vt750's looks like honda was trying to cut corners everywhere they could...
@@abruptlyblunt Let us know how it works out. Sounds like it should help.
Hi, Rocco. Love all your videos. I just did the clutch on my 2005 Spirit. Followed the steps you've provided. When I put the bike from neutral to first gear the bike stalles out. 😢 I've made some clutch adjustments where it feels fine but still stalling. What do you think it could be? I put the new clutch same way the old one came out and torque everything to spec. Thank you.

Thank you for the reply. I actually made the mistake of not putting the small disc in the front. Made the correction. It's working fine now. Thank you. You're the best. 🙌💪👍
Happy to hear all went well. Those Hondas are great machines. Ride safe. Have a great day. Thank you for watching.
I have to replace the clutch on my honda shadow ace will mine be the same as this one or different ?
Happy to help.Yes that will be the same. Any questions just ask. Thank you for watching and your sub.Mark. Ride safe and have a great day.
Thanks brother be safe have a great day
sorry to bother you but have a question, did you happen to save your old clutch springs, if so could you pass along the dimensions, inner, outer diameter, length and wire size? there has to be a spring for another bike that will work in place of the honda spring. i'd take apart mine for the measurements but it's my only source of transportation right now so i can't afford to have it down right now.....
Sorry, I did not save those springs. But I will send you a link on eBay for those springs.www.ebay.com/itm/334618053278?chn=ps&_trkparms=ispr%3D1&amdata=enc%3A1lCSepJrgQ4KFLdiFRSSMPA11&norover=1&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-117182-37290-0&mkcid=2&mkscid=101&itemid=334618053278&targetid=1644837434763&device=c&mktype=&googleloc=9012431&poi=&campaignid=16743749222&mkgroupid=138744546207&rlsatarget=pla-1644837434763&abcId=9300842&merchantid=6482024&gclid=Cj0KCQiA99ybBhD9ARIsALvZavW1eawkNxAh67z0P38aBVUXIi7bBvM3SnqXaO9thFIrdNgZvpnk50MaAkpQEALw_wcB. hope this helps. www.google.com/search?client=safari&rls=en&q=honda+vt750+clutch+spring+specs&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8.

Great video! I just bought a 1987 Honda Shadow, it’s my first bike. Do you have any experience with a bike that old? The clutch cable needs to be replaced and the routing and design are a bit different than newer models. Thanks for the great video!

Let us know when you resolve this problem. Thank you. It will help others, Ride safe and have a great day. Remember that pressure plate is indexed to your hub. Just take a close look at it.
