    I have a 2014 Triumph America LT. I absolutely love it. I'm a short gal at 5'2" but can get my feet flat on the ground.

    As a fellow America rider, this is probably the best, all encompassing review of what this bike has to offer. Living in north GA, and having pegs instead of footboards, I cant attest that this bike can freakin' carve mountain roads.
    Even as a happy Triumph groupie, they have the WORST stock exhaust. However, if you switch out for after market, you'll have the most unique, throaty growl you could ask for.

      I agree with your post 100%. This is a very detailed, helpful review. I test rode a 2007 America (dressed as a LT) with just 7k miles. I was pleasantly surprised. It is now on my list of options.

    What a great review Rabid, thank you! I haven't ridden a recent model LT but I like its look. I have a '03 Bonneville America & that was its second year in production & still carried the Bonneville badge. Two others have owned it before me but it only had 5,500 miles when I bought it. Someone spent a long time thinking about what the bike needed. They made it a full dresser with chrome everywhere, saddlebags, fork bag & most importantly aftermarket pipes. that have a deep, throaty & powerful growl. Mine has an 890 cc & metal fenders. I hope you enjoy yours as much as I enjoy mine.

    Thank you, you have just completely made up my mind for me, as have been considering a cruiser, but never ridden one, had 3 Triumphs: Trident ST, Daytona Super 111 & a Sprint 955i ST, have been looking at America for a while now as preferred the red but recently seen an America LT A3 in purple & fell in love with it, so thank you for your great review, from a country that has plenty of experience with cruisers.

    Great review. Was tossing up between the America and a Vulcan 900. I’m going to go with the America now. All the best from Australia.

      Dude I would take the America over the 900 Kawi. I have rode both and I love the America way more. It runs smoother, more balanced, handles nice, and has a nice comfortable seating position.

    Hi. Just revisiting your video. I wanted to let you know I have enjoyed watching your review many times. I bought this bike in January, and couldn't pick it up from the Triumph shop (120 miles away) until the first week of April. Your review helped inspire my purchase, and I have found that your review was thorough, informative, and just plain fun to watch and listen to! I enjoy your opinions and comparisons with other machines. I have gone on a two couple-hundred mile runs with 40 to 50 other bikes, mostly Harleys, here in SW Montana. This bike, as you say, "holds its own!" The ride is tremendous and comfortable. It does well at high speeds and even in gusty winds. Thanks again for such an entertaining and enjoyable review.

      +Stephen Simmons Thanks! I know that with 2016 they will be upping the CCs of the engine and the change to liquid cooling is coming as well that will give the Bonneville line a much needed power boost, however, I have not seen the announcements yet for the America. But I did find it to still be good on power for a great cruise, and very comfortable. If you get one enjoy!

    Just took delivery of my new 2016 America last evening. I initially looked at HD's and that was also what my wife wanted me to get. But I had ergonomic problems on all but the heritage and I never liked the look completely. I have permanent nerve damage so I have to keep the weight down to what I can manage. The HD dealer also has Triumph, so I decided to look after seeing your review. As soon as sat on the America, I knew it was the right fit for me. Very light for it's size and ergo's like it was made just for me. The plus that I won't see my bike everywhere I go is nice too. Thanks for the review, it really helped me find the right bike for me. Only issue is it is so quiet and smooth that I can't tell when to shift very easily. But I will leave it stock anyway. Stock pipes break in sometimes and get a deeper sound over time.     I loved the video. I've been out of biking for some years but now have time on my hands and am seriously thinking about getting back out into the wind. After a lot of looking and comparing, and after seeing this video, I've narrowed my list down to a Triumph America LT. I'm in the Milwaukee area so naturally HD's are all over the place and that's part of the problem ... everybody rides a Harley. Plus, with cost being a consideration, the Triumph seems hard to beat. Keep up the videos, I enjoy them throughly.

    Love your America, Triumph makes some nice bikes, as you know I have the 2005 rocket 3 and I love her, took her to work yesterday and people can't first of all can't really wrap their heads around what kind of bike it is and that it is even ride able; but once they see the triumph label than they realize what I have hear is a beast. always feels good watching your video's, and "BE SAFE"

      Thank you once more! I just introduced a friend of mine to the Rocket III at a dealer for the first time in person for him and he was shocked at the balance and comfort. He unfortunately did not get a chance to ride it.

    Hi Rabid, at long last a Bike-Presenter who is very competent and talks about all the issues I want and need to know. And does not bore me to shit with any "I love myself. I'm a Biker" crap. A pleasure to hear You talk. Keep up the good work. Yes, I ride Triumph but would have listened to You talking about any other Make too. I am waiting on my Boober to land in South Africa in April. Life is good on Two!

    Hi! Like Michael, I also bought it with the luggage rack, engine guard, and highway pegs. I guess some of us just think of the same basic needs of the longer ride rider. What a great bike. Already have a few hundred miles on here in the cool Montana spring. It's snowing today though!

    When you first showed the bike I thought it was a v star 1300.The tank an fenders looks on the line of the v star 1300. I enjoyed the video. You do a great job when reviewing bikes. Ride Safe.

      With the new Bonne line coming I am hoping the America and America LT both benefit from the 1200cc engine over the 865cc. So it might be worth a little wait to see if they get the updates as well.

    Nice bike. I bought an America in 2012 and really love the bike. The after market short pipes make it sound so much better, but I'm sure you probably already know that. Thanks for sharing your review, take care and enjoy.

    I just bought one yesterday. Got a great price on a new, leftover, 2014. I'll pick it up next week. Really excited and this review played a big roll in my decision. I've watched it many many times.

      Sweet! I still love my Roxy and rode her quite a bit over the weekend and today as its the first time in a flipping month it has not rained for a few days. I ride in the rain, mostly on the Harley due to belt drive, but I love my Triumph for the long cruise and she'll treat you right. Enjoy!

      Thanks. It's been a number of years since my last bike so since I got it I've just been trying to get my "motorcycle legs" back under me so to speak. I've put about 200 miles on it and love it so far. We've had the same weather problems here in Wisconsin so I ride when I can. I especially love the looks I get from my Harley riding friends. They all say "why didn't you get a Harley?" and I always reply, "because EVERYBODY has a Harley!" And living in the Milwaukee area, 95% of the bikes you see ARE Harleys and I like to be different I guess. Ride safe and thanks for your help.

      Not a problem! I agree because in a sense I am everybody in that I have a Harley, but it does not steal the show, it's the Triumph. And it looks better to me too. I am hoping for a Rocket III for the next bike for sure.

      I know you also have a HD, I read your reviews. Excellent bikes but like I said, they are all over the place, at least around here. I can honestly say I can't remember the last Triumph I saw and I know for a fact I've NEVER seen an America LT. It's a head turner. lol Good luck on the Rocket!

    I had a chance to demo this bike a couple months ago and really liked it (I'm normally not a fan or floorboards but on this bike the floorboards were really comfortable).

      boarder989 I like them for the long rides for sure. I just want some nice pegs for like in town for tighter turns and such. But then on the long haul stick the boards back on.

      gregory lawrence I still enjoy it to this day. We had it in a parade here and it the temps were 98 and it made it through the whole thing without one failure, unlike some of the Harley's that failed to restart and get going after it until they cooled.

    Great video as always.. Question... Ive been looking at the Triumph Thunderbird LT and just learned that Triumph is discontinuing production of the bike because of poor US sales. Does this pose any concerns if I'm considering the purchase of a 2016. Or should I forget the Thunderbird LT all together?

      I would not worry about it. The reason being is that they will continue the Thunderbirds and all the LT version is basically a new saddle, a windshield, and some saddle bags. So I would not worry at all.

    Nice job on the review. I have two questions for you about riding at interstate speeds, 70 to 75mph.
    I'm 6ft tall and noticed you mentioned you were as well. Is there much wind buffeting on your head behind that windshield?
    I know it doesn't have a tachometer but is that motor screaming at highway speeds or does it seem like it's made to run 75mph all day?

      +Roger Lasting The engine does rather well at 75MPH all day. We had this one around for a four hour ride in two up and water and such in the bags and it was perfect all day long, and it was even getting close to 100 F by the end of that ride. So despite the air cooled nature it held on great and delivered good power. The wind buffet did not exist for me with one helmet, the HJC IS-MAX BT that I have, but on my Bell Qualifier DLX it did, but not terribly. I believe it was caused from the dual vents on each side of the helmet vs the HJC's single intake in the middle. So it may depend on your helmet on that one.

    Great video! Very imformative... i just bought a 2012 Trimph America. Not an Lt so i got to add the accessories....
    Its my first cruiser... everything you said was spot on...
    Its smooth has plenty power for me, comfortable.
    I Wish it had a fuel gage though..
    Question... what type of camera were you using to film.

    I loved your review. I ride a Kawasaki Vulcan 800 and am interested in the Triumph America. I don't ride with a screen, and find them distracting, but I loved your comment about the grasshopper. Made me laugh out loud. I was wondering if you know of any simple alteration you can make to the pipes to make it louder, without compromising the mechanics or efficiency? Do those have removable baffles? If I can get one of these, I probably won't be able to afford changing out the pipes right away, and I like my bikes loud (and my car silent.)
    I loved all of the info you gave about this bike. I think I'd probably go with the America vs. the LT, but I was hoping to find some good info, and your review was super helpful. Thank you!

      Arrow exhaust can be put on the America in slip on or full system to get it some grunt and keep it in line with efficiency as well. Baffles can be removed as well if needed. Thank you for the support as well!

      Thanks, dude. I didn't really expect and answer, given the age of this post, but I appreciate your response. I'm looking at an America now. If the weather holds out, I'll get a ride in soon. I'm kind of tripping about riding a bike with a fat front tire, since I'm used to the big skinny fronts on all if the bikes I've owner thus far. Hopefully that is an easy transition. And, I'm hoping the America has as much hop as the Vulcan 800. I do love having that ballsy response when I crank on it. Hopefully the America gives me that same jump.

    Man, you speaks heaps of truth to a 67 yr old who has ridden may bikes. I wonder how it handles or NZ winding roads? I'm on a 750 Katana at present and you can lay it over but the ride attitude is one for younger riders. Got me thinking

      +Sam Turner It does very well on winding roads as it can get down pretty decent even for floorboards. But not as good as that Katana. To get a similar bike without the floorboards the Speedmaster has traditional pegs that gives it a bit more room.

    Nice review, and, well done. But, the floorboards are also an LT item- stock, base bikes come with footpegs, which allow for greater lean angles. You seem to feel that the Sportster has more power and or torque, which is unusual, because the Triumph has more HP. But, the H-D's torque is right above idle, which does seem to give it great power off the line. Conversely, the Triumph has a broad powerband, which peaks at 6,800 rpm, when the H-D is all in at 3,300 rpm.
    Stock pipes are a bummer on the Triumph, but, even they offer variants that sound great!

      I am working on getting some slip ons for the Triumph to give her some rumble. The Harley I have has some performance upgrades that skew it so I need to ride a stock 1200 once more to remember the feeling.

    Thanks for the review. Just wondering if you still own the Triumph America LT and would you buy the bike again given the chance? Also have you had any problems with the bike? I'm looking to buy a 2014 leftover and I'm wondering if it's a good buy. Thanks again!

      I never had any problems with Roxy. I did sell her though, but I would buy another for sure. They are a leisure bike as the are slow but plush. It should buy though and it will have the same engine and setup as the one I had.

    I had a Triumph America. Fantastic bike. Had some nice pipes that gave it a great note. Had the American front fitted. Travelled more than 16,000 miles before I sold it. I do a lot of interstate trips with guys who have Harley's and Indians. The 865 cc engine just didn't cut it. I found I was wringing it's neck with the throttle almost back onto the throttle stop. The 865 cc bike suffered on long haul trips where you spent all day at 70 Mile an Hour. I did it....but was revving it's guts out. I sold it and I'm now the owner of a Triumph Thunderbird LT. Much better bike and almost idles at 70 Miles/hour. Engine much better suited to long haul trips. As a commuter, the America was fine. But as a highway hauler.....no.

      I think you just took me out of the market for this bike...I like loafing along at 65-70 and even the person I would buy it from said it "reaches for another gear". I think for me I would have to gear it taller and it probably can't power that, so I'm glad I caught your comments. Otherwise beautiful bike.

      I can't believe that your bike was only happy around 70mph??, I've owned a 2009 America for 8yrs and mine isn't even trying at 70???, Nice test report but I reckon that petrol tank was a bit loose, cos my tank is Rock solid, I would be a bit concerned if my tank was wobbly like that one, ride safe!

    was looking for an upgrade from my 750 Shadow. Was in love with the 1200 custom but after trying realized it was not the bike for me. Ironically my buddy who rides a Roadking found my America test road it and called me. I was in love after 50 ft.

      I lean towards the Thunderbird on this one. Liquid Cooling, slightly more power (albeit slightly more weight too). But the chassis and the engine is very lovely and I believe that it is the best handling bike with floorboards as the Triumph carries its weight lower and more balanced than the HD. It is also better suspended in general. Don't get me wrong I like HD, but I believe the Thunderbird has this one.

    As you're answering questions, I have to ask you what it's like to ride a cruiser with forward controls. I've always heard the 'sit up and beg ' style motorcycle. Been riding since the mid 70s but is a cruiser the right optio for me?. I don't really like those forward foot pegs.

      The floorboards tend to be better for feet forward. Not as much wind blast pushing back on the feet. It's almost like sitting on the couch in the end though, and relaxed like that.

    Just wondering your opinion of the Triumph Thunderbird Storm? Or LT? How do they compare to the Moto Guzzi or Harley? Triumphs seem very well made, fit and finish, and more power. I think more accessories are available for the Triumph over the Moto Guzzi. Thanks again for your detailed videos. I really enjoy them.

      There are more things available for sure for the Triumphs than the MGs. I Like the Thunderbirds, just never been presented with one to ride just yet except pre-channel. They are powerful and smooth and I actually prefer them to the America LT since they gain that power. So I would say go for one of them.

    I agree the Harley is to small, I would love to have had a triumph but the dealer is over 80 miles away, if not for that I would probably have one. keep your wheels up stay safe. keep us informed on how the triumph does.

    I picked up my new LT yesterday and have a question. Do you have to remove the saddle bags every time you want to adjust the rear spring tension to carry a passenger?? I was dismayed that the Triumph doesn't come with even a rudimentary tool kit of any kind. Owners manual says to "insert a suitable tool into the hole provided in the adjuster ring". Sure would be nice if they supplied said "suitable tool". haha I took an old screwdriver with a 1/4" shank and ground the blade off and it fits the "hole provided" but the bags are in the way and no way to crank the adjuster to max tension. Have you had this problem too???

      Wayne Novotny I did not actually have to remove the saddle only the saddle bags to get to the adjustment setting. I have heard of some having an issue with the way the shock is mounted in and of itself and they had to remove it and spin it around so the lug would face the correct way to adjust, but luckily I did not have that issue. For the tool I went to my local cycle gear and bought a spanner wrench that I used to make the adjustments. So if you can find a spanner wrench somewhere that would work that would help you get the shocks adjusted.       I hate to keep asking these stupid questions but is there a trick to oiling the drive chain with no center stand or way to spin the rear tire? Oil it .. move the bike .. oil some more .. move the bike .. repeat until you get it all??

      That is actually how I do it for now. I have my wife walk it up the drive way while I spray the cleaners on it and scrub it, and then back down to wipe the excess, and then back up for the right side of the chain and back down. I am going to just get a motorcycle specific jack to raise it later and that would be the best way.

    I believe the tank is rubber mounted to the frame, and that's why it moves. I'm pretty sure that's totally normal.

      +Reason is Evidence There are rubber bumpers on the frame, and the tank has guides that are supposed to slide onto them. I've personally set my tank ('07 TBA) on top of the bumpers and it moved around like in this video. The tank is mounted incorrectly here.

      +MIKE McKool This was actually the case. When it was first put together at the Tulsa dealer they had mounted it incorrectly. It was slapped back together at a dealer here in OKC that had just started selling them and they did a fantastic job. It rode much better after they had completed their work.

    Great review , thank you . I am looking for my 2nd bike my first is a kawasaki Ninja 300 , do you think that this bike is too heavy for me as far as commuting and long rides . It looks like a big heavy bike , Please fill me in

      It looks big but does not act like it. It carries its weight low in the chassis that balances it out. With a full tank of gas it weighs only 540, which is still almost 50 full pounds lighter than a sportster. Kudzu Nomad mentioned that if you take the boards off and go with pegs it even helps more on the lean angles. I would agree as this thing can still carve a winding road even with the boards. It has been a very good bike so far and I would say throw a leg over one for real.

    I have a 2011 America LT and because of its length (almost 96" wheelbase) far forward PEGS, and minimal computer complexities, and giant size gas tank and 540lb wet weight I do not really want the new Speedmaster that is shorter, heavier and less DIY friendly. Seeing this video reminds me that for me - 6' 3" and 235 lbs - the America is the last bike for me. I have about 40K on it and would only trade for another America perhaps newer with less miles.

    Hey I'm sorry to keep blowing up your videos... But I rode an America today! It was pegged (didn't have the boards... Pegs instead.) and had a really low idle... Like I pulled the clutch out and it moved without gas... But only to a certain point. (Like 3/4ths of the way out) then it stalled. Figured that out and had no problem until I came back and stopped it. It sat at idle and when I went to turn it off it just went PSSH! Stalled... Maybe I flicked the clutch and didn't realize it? Idk... Maybe last owner de tuned the engine so it ran too low at idle? Have you noticed any of that?

      Yes! when I first had the bike it was set to a factory idle for break in, which at least is what the dealer told me when the reset the idle, which is actually a bit on the low side and it would stall and some very in opportune times it would seem in traffic, especially in heat. Had them re-flash the ECU and idle speeds and it never once did it again. So maybe they had it set low still.

      Common problem, all you do is adjust the idle slighlty under the EFI unit or carb and everything is well

      Yes. This bike is actually pretty light on its feet and easy going to handle.

      John Braman After this video a new Triumph dealer opened here in OKC. My engine was not properly tuned when I first had it so they remapped it and it began to perform better. A sproket change would help too.

      I have a big Kawasaki Vulcan 1500, but I want something small for short fun rides on the winding country roads around where I live. Can't decide on a sport bike or small cruiser.

      The America in terms of its size almost matches the Vulcan 1500 as it is almost as wide and long, but not the weight. I would say the smaller and less dressed Bonneville that this one is based upon would be a great choice for a small cruiser. Enough power to get around and has a really good and narrow chassis for the twists. Or if you're looking towards the sport bikes and maybe not like the aggressive seating some have I would recommend Suzuki's new GSX-S 750. That is a heck of a kit.

    That ticking noise is nothing the bike uses solid lifters/shims what your hearing will be the exhaust valve with its extra clearance between the cam lobe - dont try to fix its not broken

      Ah don't do that to me I like them both! The new Triumphs are liquid cooled and offer similar displacement as the Scout now. They do not have equal power though as the Scout has a little more to offer. But the Triumph comes with extra goodies standard like ABS and such which will aid you as a new rider and are great bikes to ride on.

    Wow man. Really Fancy Bike. I'm sitting in India and it's coming in all my dreams. I got a deal from a Motor Dealer in the ??US, (of course reputed) , this Bike, Driven 2078 kms, for only $ 250! Can anyone tell me how can I bring this gorgeous bike to India? I'm willing ot handle a bit hassle.

    The frame is made in Thailand. The rest of the bike is made in England. The motor is definitely made in England. Just go to there web site.

      Actually only the Speed Triples, Tiger, Tiger Explorers, Rocket IIIs and Daytonas are built in the UK while the rest are in Thailand. The crank is made in England on all bikes, but not the whole engine.

    Decent review but consider not filling every second with your mouth and let us hear the bike accelerate, decelerate, shift, etc. It's part of the experience of a bike that your vid lacks. Thanks for not trying to make a music vid like so many.

    Triumph cruisers sound like sewing machines. You always have to get aftermarket exhaust for any triumph cruiser if you want it to have any kind of satisfying sound. It's one of the things triumph needs to improve on. I guess it's typical of the mild mannered British, who like their peace and quiet, and probably think it would be the worst thing in the world for someone to bother their neighbors.

      Zap You are totally wrong about us Brits and the noise factor, I have hundreds of bikes riding past my house every week in summer...you can hear them for miles...very few quiet ones! Don't know anyone who rides a Triumph over here with stock pipes

      In a sense it is to buy that British look and feel, and you get it despite where the engines are built as Triumph generally has a team at their plants all over the world over seeing quality. I love them and they keep on delivering great machines.

      Eh you can ride things with any jacket. It's about being safe with what you have. Nowadays though I'm wearing AGVSport USA gear and Alpinestar.
