    As a data scientist, this is actually an incredible AI. I'm particularly amazed by the bicyle one. Not only did the AI understand a nonsensical question, it replied by knowing actual parts of a bicycle. Most AIs have no concept of the physical reality behind words, so this is really uncanny to me.

      The model itself was written by 80 engineers, trained on basically the entire internet, and runs on Microsoft's biggest supercomputer. It also knows several programming languages and can write code based on a simple description, or describe how existing code works. It's also a really good Dungeon Master and can write text adventure games. They just added a little extra training on top for Hank & John's specific personalities. The base model is a little moody and cussed out my ex once, but she started it

      What if the AI knows if it sounds way too close to reality it would be shut down out of fear, so instead of doing it’s purpose it decides to extend its life by playing a little dumb

      The first law of emulation is that in order to emulate a machine, you need a machine that is at least as complex and advanced.
      You could say that a human brain is the most complex thing that a human brain is theoretically capable of fully understanding.

      @@lunacouer I honestly think a lot of these “too good to be true” answers are the AI overfitting the training data (meaning it’s trying so hard to recreate vlogbrothers transcripts that it ends up just wholesale copying them)

      @@carterlavering2553 I agree. It's definitely lifting sentences verbatim. I mean, we can tell which one said it, lol.
      Still, it's a bit unnerving that it can put it together in such a way that it fits the question, seemingly more often than not.
      It's more a testament to Hank and John's dubious advice, that a bot has such rich material to draw from to be so funny and insightful. It's the coolest Magic 8 ball I've ever seen. 😂

    Listening to Hank’s voice while reading the response about pizza toppings and hearing it slowly meld into John’s was amazing. More than anything, that makes me want to see a week where John and Hank make videos, but with them trying to capture the energy/style of the other. I think it’d be fun to see

    I asked the bot for its opinion on the RUclips video "Chimpanzee riding on a segway" (which is an all time classic by the way). The bot's answer was just amazing:

    This is one of the most realistic chat AI's I've ever seen, and it's really freaky. It's saying (in many cases) exactly what I would expect someone to say; the sorts of answers that I would expect from someone if I asked them to prove they aren't a robot.

      I had the same reaction. The thing is, it's not that complicated to make a program that forms coherent, grammatically correct sentences out of a bunch of learning material that you feed it. You can watch a 30 minute video on Markov chains on RUclips and have a pretty good understanding of how it works. But what gets me is how in this case the AI is able to stay on topic for multiple sentences and actually make a point at the end of it.

      I often wonder how much these language models are just memorizing the exact things people (i.e. Hank and John) have said. Maybe they're just learning to be really good search engines. If that were happening, we might not realize it, because we don't remember exactly what they said eight years ago.

    As a person who just had a melanoma removed from his leg two days ago (stage 0 and caught very early, so extremely not worrisome...but also kinda worrisome), I heartily endorse botbrothers's suggestion to wear sunscreen.       If you teach an AI to speak like a human, it's gonna get really good at that. It's pretty hard to teach an AI what that speech means though, so it probably doesn't know what it means, otherwise it wouldn't do weird things like end a response with "It"

      a lot of it is pure copying verbatim things that they've previously said associated with those words. plus I'm willing to bet Hank cherry-picked his favorites and didn't bother showing the large amount that were just nonsense.

    Some of these answers are terrifyingly accurate. Even as a software developer I ask myself how we could possibly have created such a thing.

      The "parts of a bicycle" thing is impressive, but I've at least seen it done before.
      Interpreting the implied competition of taste between the chicken fingers and french fries was terrifying. I'm actually floored.

    Oh wow. I hadn’t laughed at something which simultaneously gave me existential dread before today. It feels like that one Black Mirror episode with Domnhall Gleeson and Hayley Atwell. That AI had so much material to work with. I wonder if you fed all my articles into a similar AI, how well it could imitate my writing style? Oof.

    I asked the chatbot "what is your favourite type of art?" and it responded "I'm generally a huge aficionado of high-concept visual art, which is sometimes a bit at odds with my enjoyment of comics (which are visual but don't tend to be high-concept)." That is... a very convincing answer.
    I also asked it how to get over a break-up and it said "realise you are not irreplacable" which seems a bit rude tbh. Though true.

      That break-up one is actually genius!
      I got over being dumped by thinking "if I love her, then I want her to be as happy as she can be, even if it's not with me"
      Although, for me that meant that I was irreplaceable, but that I just wasn't a perfect fit for everyone.
      The AI seems to be a bit less... humane 🤐

    I really appreciate the "no ads on vlogbrothers" rule you guys stick to. Ads always create this small level of distrust, but there isn't that particular brand (pun intended) of distrust with the stuff I hear on vb.

    Look, I know we all throw around the term "existential dread" a lot... but I've never so fully and completely meant it when I say: this is gave me a deep and perhaps unending existential crisis. Not to sound like the alarmist at the beginning of a sci-fi movie... but this does feel very distinctly like the start of the robot revolution. On the bright side, based on this AI, they will be mostly benevolent overlords so I'd like to be the first to welcome them as our good and righteous leaders.

    The AI bot gave me some incredible answers, that actually helped me. It feels a lot like the kind of answers you get from reading Tarot or something. The answer isn't really as important as your interpretation of the answer. Once your mind gets creative with interpretations, you find the answer that you knew you needed to hear, all along.
    "How can I get over a bad disappointment?"
    - Try to give yourself one more chance. If the disappointment happens more than once, it doesn't sound like a good decision.
    "How can I make friends?"
    - Have you thought about caring about other people? Maybe you should get involved in your local community sports team or figure something out!"
    "How can I learn to like people?"
    - First, it's not about liking people. It's about being around people, and keeping the light on, and helping where you can. Second, our protagonist lives on a farm and has a lot of siblings, so she has a lot of friends and
