- I like to shoot wide open at f/1.2 on my Canon RF 50mm lens, but that's difficult to do if you want to use a strobe for portrait work without going into high speed sync, which you should avoid. So to maintain a maximum shutter speed of 1/250, you should try using an ND filter. Let's discuss.
it's funny that I found this post because I'm going through the same issue right now. My solution was a bit different but it allows me to use the original Canon hood. I noticed that if I use both a UV filter and a VND, stacked, I can retain the hood on the lens because the VND filter sits proud enough to not interfere with the hood. But who wants 3 pieces of glass stacked, right? I figured out that I could unscrew the retaining ring on the K&F UV filter and remove the glass, using a compass (the drawing kind). Essentially creating an 77mm to 77mm adapter, which acts as a spacer to push the VND out far enough to not interfere with the lens hood. I keep the hood on my lenses 100% of the time and just don't ever us lens caps ever because with the hood on, nothing can touch the front element (except RF14-35mm which has a super short hood) whilst in my camera bag.
Dude! I think I saw you in Florida last month! Thanks for the info!
🤣
i bought a k&f lens cap designed for their vnd filters. works great. i like this too.
I also ended up getting a lens cap for the front of the metal hood. Love it.
I found that with this filter if you went past max vienetting was very severe.
How did you manage to go past "max" when there are hard stops? I've never had any issues with my copy of this filter.
There were no stops on my filter it would fully rotate @@TBGTOMPHOTO
