The Ed Sullivan Show was a television variety program that aired on CBS from 1948-1971. For 23 years it aired every Sunday night and played host to the world's greatest talents. The Ed Sullivan Show is well known for bringing rock n' roll music to the forefront of American culture through acts like Elvis Presley, The Beatles, and The Rolling Stones. The entertainers each week ranged from comedians like Joan Rivers and Rodney Dangerfield, to Broadway stars Julie Andrews and Richard Burton, to pop singers such as Bobby Darin and Petula Clark. It also frequently featured stars of Motown such as The Supremes, The Temptations, Stevie Wonder and The Jackson 5. The Ed Sullivan Show was one of the only places on American television where such a wide variety of popular culture was showcased and its legacy lives on to this day.

The original Scouse cheeky chappie - what you saw was what you got.
Saw Gerry at the Basildon Towngate - was still fantastic. Remember him and the group in the 60’s when I was a kid. Fantastic era for real music. RIP Gerry.
Oh love this one, I´ve liked this group for so many years, so sad his gone now, Rest in Peace Gerry Marsden.

Timeless Talent
Great Liverpool group
R.I.P GERRY🇬🇧😭🤧
Top Fella born and bred in DINGLE South Liverpool!
Excellent
I lived in Toronto when this tune hit number 1 in June of 64 on the Canadian charts. I wondered why I never heard it when I tuned into US stations. Today I checked my Billboard reference material and it shows the song only charted 2 weeks in the top 100 and peaked at number 82 in the US. It makes you wonder about the factors determining chart strength.
Payola…
The reason was the Beatles had the number one spot through April 1964, as well as a big chunk of top forty. Add the parade of other British Invasion groups, plus Beach Boys, Four Seasons, The Supremes, and still guys like Louie Armstrong and Dean Martin were topping the hit parade. Love Gerry Marsden. Always a big hit at Liverpools Mersey Beat festival every August.
Well jeez it’s about time
a great front man RIP
I like how Fred ecknowledges the camera at :45.
Should be in the R&R HOF!
I Like it 、I Like it 、💓
Please put more songs from them
The microphone for the pianist's harmony vocals was not picked up in the audio.
Strong connections to the other famous band from Liverpool: Same manager, same producer and - same suits.
At the peak of the "British Invasion" of 1964
On this day in 1964 {February 6th} "I'm The One" by Gerry and the Pacemakers peaked at #2 {for 2 weeks} the United Kingdom's Official Top 50 Singles* chart, for the two weeks it was at #2, the #1 record for both those weeks was "Needles and Pins" by the Searchers...
Three months later on May 25th, 1964 "I'm The One" reached #1 {for 2 weeks} on the Canadian CHUM Singles chart...
The group's three prior releases to "I'm The One" all peaked at #1 in the U.K., "How Do You Do It?" for three weeks in April of 1963, "I Like It" for four weeks in June of 1963, and "You'll Never Walk Alone" for four weeks in October of 1963...
Between 1963 and 1965 the Liverpool quartet had nine records on the U.K. Singles chart, six made the Top 10 with three reaching #1...
Besides "I'm The One and their three #1 records, their other two Top 10 records were "Don't Let The Sun Catch You Cryin'" {#6 for one week in May of 1964} and "Ferry Cross The Mersey" {#8 for one week in January of 1965}...
Sadly, two members have passed away, the group's original bassist John Leslie Chadwick passed away at the age of 76 on December 26th, 2019 {cancer} and group leader Gerry Marsden on January 3rd, 2021 at 78...
May they both R.I.P.
* And from the 'For What It's Worth' department, the remainder of the U.K. Singles Top 10 on February 6th, 1964:
At #3. "Hippy Hippy Shake" by the Swinging Blue Jeans
#4. "Glad All Over" by the Dave Clark Five
#5. "As Usual" by Brenda Lee
#6. "Twenty-Four Hours From Tulsa" by Gene Pitney
#7. "I Want To Hold Your Hand" by the Beatles
#8. "Diane" by the Bachelors
#9. "5-4-3-2-1" by Manfred Mann
#10. "Don't Blame Me" by Frank Ifield
Unfortunately three of the members have passed away. The first one was Gerry's brother Freddie Marsden (the drummer) who died from cancer on December 9th 2006
@@batsup1951 Thanks for the reply, and the interesting, but sad, info about the group... Thanks again...
Uh guys turn Les’s mic on
yeah, no harmony !
@@roychristopher5014 right!
@@evanholly3649 Hi...I sing this song in my act
@@roychristopher5014 nice!!!!
Un hip sound people on Ed Sullivan!
So bizarre to think that 2 years prior to this Freddie Marsden (the drummer) was just a guy in a local Liverpool band, and then 2 years later, he's briefly got a close-up on American television which millions are watching, as he pulls a slightly silly face.
RIP Gerry Marsden 😔
Não consigo entender como essa banda é tão pouco lembrada...e os caras eram bons...
very VERY smart
Can you upload all there stuff PLEASE
ikrr
Originally they were called the Mars Bar.
people forget the great work on keyboards and backing vocals les maguire sadly the member left out the original 4
Lawrence Welk meets the Beatles. Right on.
💔💔😢
YNWA RIP Gerry
Buying 15 mersey hits from a charity shop for £1.95 on vinyl brought me here 🤓
British Invasion, beatlemania, youthquake
Just heard that Gerry Marsden has died, aged 78 ( jan 2021)
Listen "se jokin sinulla on" trust me
1:08 - drums??
Is it just me or has anyone noticed the acts are not ones they are famous for
Example...DON'T LET THE SUN CATCH YOU CRYING
Why it Jerry Marsden. BLOODY HELL.
0:44 Impagable las caras del Batero Freddie.
The bass is barely audible.
WHERE'S THE HARMONY
Ripped off the intro to The Everly Brothers' "Wake Up Little Susie".
I don’t believe so
"Bye Bye Love" as well. Marsden could get away with since most of the audience were 5 years-old in 1956.
@@tolanstout oh ok cool, I love Gerry and the guys they are my favorite group I know just about everything about them, I think I do remember something now about him saying that
Man, I never realized how lacking in sex appeal these guys were. Great band though.
That's a matter of opinion. I thought Gerry was VERY sexy! Fantastic voice, gorgeous face, stunning smile. Perfect in every way. But we're all different.
