What's your favorite "fast" SUV? Huge thanks to Audi Shrewsbury for lending me the SQ7 and of course to my Patreon Supporters who make this content possible.
Hey tedward, u should try to test drive a used Mercedes gl/gls 63amg with 5.5 twin turbo, cause they are pretty good deal on the used market, and are even more loud and aggressive, little low on the tech but it pretty good for a super 3 row suv
On the family hauler side, the Q7 has the LATCH system in all 5 rear seats. Imagine having 3 car seats across in the second row and smoking Honda Pilots and Toyota Highlanders on Route 2 when driving the fam to swim classes.
Gotta love the subtleness of the S models. It takes a lot more attention to identify it as a version with an extra "spice". If you look quickly you'll think it's "just" one of the civilian (lol) versions, like the 50 or 55TFSI.
I pick mine up next week - UK ‘black edition’. I opted for the red seats - so glad I have seeing them up close in this vid. Cannot wait! Thanks, great vid.
@@TedwardDrives thanks. I’ve had and enjoyed the standard Q7 for three years now. With everything going on they cannot shift the stock, so could not turn down an excellent lease deal for the SQ7 which costs just 15% more than paying now!
It’s on my shortlist for next rig, fantastic review. Your insight and comparisons are invaluable, it’s a nuanced segment that most don’t understand, you do!

my family actually bought a 2021 sq7 and we got it for 10% off with negotiating with the dealership, and it had the sport package! Make sure you negotiate!

The transmissions they come with have to slowly shift in order to not grenade themselves. Does wonders for comfort because you barely notice shifts but still slow
You mention the X7 M50i in your review. I'm cross shopping both - what would be your pick and why? You nailed the 'muscle car' part - that's what it felt like from my few minutes behind the wheel. Great review.
@@TedwardDrives Wow that's unexpected. I thought the SQ would be more of a 'drivers car', esp with smaller proportions while still having enough room to haul kids + gear. X7 seems to be a bit over the top but I will reconsider it and compare both back to back this weekend. Thanks !
My take. I had a 2021 X5 40i M sport, then a 2022 X5 M50i with dynamic handling package. I just traded the M50i for a new SQ7. The M50i is the worst of the lot by far. Yes it has great power and sounds the best of the 3, but it drives like a pig. The 40i was way more locked down, agile and fun to drive (besides the power). The M50i felt like it was 2 feet taller and 1000 lbs heavier than the 40i. The SQ7 is so much better handling than the M50i it’s not even in the same ballpark. Maybe the X7 M50i drives smaller than the x5 but I doubt it.
@@gregs8685 I agree with you on ALL points. It DOES drive like a pig (I do NOT have the DHP). Pros/Cons to ALL cars, but I might of enjoyed the 40i more, especially it being 600 lbs lighter then the 50. IMHO the SQ7 sounds the BEST of them all (especially with the factory resonated exhaust). The M50i is neither here nor there, not deep enough to be pleasant yet always 'there' at low speeds almost. The SQ7 is definitely the drivers car of the bunch, and to me an improvement over the 50i in almost every category. Did you go with a prestige? The SQ7 is one of my favorite cars at the moment - and I sort of got the M50i as a stand-in until I found my right spec. Might resume the SQ7 hunt shortly.
@@gregs8685 To clarify It's an X5 M50i that I Have. I heavily considered the X7 but now after the X5 and it's driving dynamics the X7 is definitely off the list. Can't imagine going even heavier / larger then the X5.
I had a 17 Q7 and it drove me nuts. Wore out THREE sets of tires in 22K.... and the way it felt downshifting where it was jerking the whole car, like when coming to a stop. Literally made some passengers nauseated. I’m back in a new X5 and I’m happy again. (Audi Quattro isn’t for everyone)
I am genuinely thinking of getting the SQ7. Based on its reliability would you lease this vehicle or buy it for the long run. I like to keep my vehicles for about 5-8 years. I want to make the most of them and be financially responsible at the same time. Thoughts?
"Sorry I passed this guy on the right..." I'm thinking man I have to pass on the right daily like it's the passing lane... Got to love California left lane cruisers. I've driven the Macan GTS and the S which are amazing. The Audi's interior looks a little nicer!
You can APR tune an SQ5 and get the same if not better performance. A little less space though. My APR tuned SQ5 is a crackhead. I smoke mustangs all of the time
At this point, why anyone would buy a BMW over an Audi makes no sense. Audi is better in pretty much every way. Design language is better (although that's subjective) interior design and quality is better, dynamically better, better tech although I don't love the climate control screen. Just better vehicles. Who would have thought.
I mentally have always put BMW at a lower price range than Audi which would excuse them for not being anywhere as nice. It was kinda surprising that they are on the same level. I really don't know where the money is going with BMW...
I've only ever driven one Audi (in driving school) but I did not like the pedal feel at all. I think it was an A3 but I'm not sure. It was years ago^^ It felt like a fly could press down the pedals, clutch, brakes, gas they all felt really spongy and soft. Was this the case in this car?
