Here are a couple of extra things to consider. One, instead of making the connection from the reel to the wind on leader using a Bimini twist, consider using another piece of hollow core line with a loop connected to your main line on your reel in a similar knotless connection. Two, the Daho needle set is very useful to make these connections. A guy who can afford the boats and tackle to go along with this type of fishing can certainly afford a nice professional needle set. See the Shimano Hollow Ace videos to see other techniques making wind on leaders.
I got some #50 threadlock, what size needle do you recommend? This is the hardest hollow core to get to spread I’ve tried. I have a needle for #50-60 mono and it barely slides thru.
That loop is not going to pull out at all unless you physically try an push slack into the second layer and pull it out. I do think I would have doubled it up a bit further but good video and useful. Thanks
I got 250lb mono for wind on leader I want to put it 80 braid with Bimini twist what is best wat to connect the two lines thanks in adv for deep drop swordfish JT
15 plus years ago the wind on leaders were given much need ergonomic up grades, two innovators in the wind on leader field were Capt John's Custom Tackle and Basil aka Bptakle as mentioned in a comment below. The innovative thinking of single walled, double walled, tanka(sp) loop knot, heaven waxed floss to fine waxed floss to spectra braid whipping, ect. Weither to used Dacron, or hollow core braid, or the momoi brand dineama(spelling). Seaguar and Momoi were once one in the same, at some point they split. Momoi is sold out of high liner tackle in pompano beach Florida, sea guar is sold out of st.lucie I believe. These are the wholesale hubs. The R and D of new age wind on leaders were put to the test, they are still evolving with the new products hitting the market. I'm out of the game now, but before I left, I built, sold, tested, designed, destroyed well over 15000 hand made wind on's and top shots...
I love your show and I highly respect you Steve Walker, but this is the absolute WORST way to 'whip a loop' into your hollow braid. Pull the line into itself from the other way, and use at least 12" of cover.
I wonder if they have made a redo of this, I can't find it. This is simply not the right way to make a loop in hollow core and it's so easy to properly make a loop. It's a 45 second process to make a loop and lock it down. I'm also confused why he's only inserting the leader in two feet. It may be enough to hold, but no way am I stopping at two feet when it takes 30 seconds to get to 5 feet plus. Very odd that such an experienced captain, and tournament fisherman, is making a loop in this way and why not just use the proper tools? I don't get it.

No thanks. I'll take my Jerry Brown hollow core.
No doubt rather stay in modern times! Kevlar strands was introduced 30+ years ago.
