The start of Tony's second verse is really clever. Wayne is sometimes refered to as "the Great One" and his jersey number was 99.
Also the pink background when tony is rapping in second verse is nod for Tony Hawk’s American Wasteland game.

The Bruins in the BG is from when Bobby Orr scored a Stanley Cup winning goal and jumped sideways in celebration and that image became iconic.
Bobby Orr… the slayer of my st Louis Blues… that game broke an entire city, and locked the blues to an 0-12 record in Stanley cup finals games, having lost in 4 in three straight appearances.
People complained about the sound being too loud, but it was fine. Now the rap is at a whisper and Knox is screaming. Thanks, guys.

It seemed like a great rap battle and I would have loved to have been able to hear it all. Obviously, you're not in agreement. Do you enjoy watching sports where the game is awesome but the television crew shooting it sucks so you miss everything? That would be fun- a game where historical plays are made but your view always just misses it and the sportscasters calling the game can't be heard. You probably wouldn't keep watching, I bet. You truly care a lot about the success of this channel- but I defer to you as you have made such an eloquent case for your point of view.

As a Canadian, this is one of my favorite battles. On the surface, it seems pretty balanced, but overall? Tony is amazing at skateboarding, and Wayne is the BEST at Hockey ever.

I think he has a strong chance to do so and an article I just read says he has a 91% chance of reaching 895. I'm also not a capitals fan per say but to see a record like this get beat will probably be once in a lifetime.

I love the way Wayne Gretzky’s last line was about it being over as soon as sport fans even heard the matchup. And yes, I’d have to agree, as somebody who never heard of Wayne Gretzky outside of ERB vs the legend of Tony Hawke. Was over before it began for sure.
Fun facts: Wayne and Brent Gretzky has the record for most points by two brothers in the NHL. Wayne scored 2857 points and Brent 4. They are also second in total points by brothers all time - only the six Sutter brothers has scored more points in the NHL with a combined 2934 points, just 73 more than the Gretzky brothers (and only 77 more than Gretzky by himself).

Think one of my favorite lines in this battle is "You've been going downhill since pro skater 3" because there was actually a DS game called Tony Hawk's Downhill Jam! Played the hell out of that when I was younger.

On another note, it has impressive accent work from Peter and Lloyd. As an Aussie, Lloyd in particular almost had me fooled for a while.
Knox I'm a born and raised Edmontonian and I want you to know that the research you do prior to breaking down an ERB is incredible. The Gretzky trade happened before I was even born and it stings that we lost such a legendary athlete.

some of yall should watch a movie called "Goon" the movie is about a bouncer from a bar who went to a hockey game and he beat up some player and was put on a hockey team than he gets moved up to a better hockey team and his main job in that team was to protect a good player whos scared to play because he got checked too hard like Knox was talking about at the beginning of the video

When the last participant took his turn, his first four bars rhymed with monopoly. Given who owns ERB at that time, they would be very aware that his name and that word can’t be mentioned in the same sentence together, or he’s gonna have his team of lawyers sue you for everything you have and more. They specifically did not use the word monopoly, as an extra “self-jab.”

For the Bruins player, the most iconic hockey photo is of Bobby Orr who after scoring a goal he jumped and was photographed being parallel to the ice.
"Jumped" is a bit of a stretch. He was actually tripped by an angry defender, but he he was too happy to care and turned it into this sort of jumping celebration, which turned out iconic.

The way I know Wayne won is, I love Tony Hawk, I know nothing of hockey or it’s players but I still feel Gretzky won by a good bit. Despite me having a heavy bias to Tony Hawk.
29:02 the moment is one of the most famous pictures in hockey. Bobby Orr, who played for the Bruins scored the winning goal as he was being tripped, so the picture captured him in mid-air with his arms above his head.
This is the only ERB where I noticed a, possible, disconnect between the subtitles and the spoken.
"I taught kids around the world that there's nothing they can't do" is what Hawk says (or at least so it sounds to me), while the subtitles instead say "I taught kids around the world that there's nothing you can't do".
"Banked in bucks" is the subtitles, but "faked in bucks" is what he says.

Ken Masters will always be my favorite Street Fighter character because he is simple, yet flashy at the same time and to top it all of his personality and backstory is so cool!
There used to be a Street Fighter pen and paper tabletop RPG. I have all the books and ran the games for my friends and my mom, it was pretty fun. I kept binders full of other stables of fighters and rankings and stuff.

You missed the bar about hitting the buzzer because it's time to change lines. A line in NHL is essentially half of a team's players that sit on the side until the buzzer is called to switch, since only 5 are allowed on the ice at once. So changing lines is actually the other players switching out on the ice when the buzzer goes off.
The 99 problems line references Gretzky's jersey number too

Idk if anyone else put it here, but that line where he says, " which goon is gonna take this battle for you" is a reference to the hockey movies GOON with the guy from American pie just don't remember his name, in which its just a movie to where a guy fights on a team but can't actually play due to mental things, and he is a goon, which references to the fact, Gretzky apparently to most players in the NHL, refused to fight I believe almost 30 to 40 people in which someone always had to battle for him

The difficulty of the 1080 isn't in the extra spin. You can see Tony later in his career do the 900 with plenty of extra time for the other half spin. The 1080 is harder because of the switch.
