Fun Fact: Stephen King commented on this battle admitting that Poe won xD Edit: I'm sorry, poor wording. I saw a random facebook news post about his tweet. Only reason I remember that is because it was the first time I'd seen them mentioned in the media. Edit 2: I feel that Poe won. Mostly because it felt to me that King was just bragging. In terms of entertainment however King definitely outshone Poe, but that's probably just because I over appreciate his references xD
Poe was struggling with severe depression when he lost his wife. That is why he became the best poet of all times. Stephen king struggled alot aswell, he used to tell his stories to his children every night, before he wrote them. Castle rock is also a tv series that i just loved. I am in deep awe with both . I can not stress that enough. Poe is a legend when it comes to raw, emotional poetism. Stephen is a legend when it comes to stories. I love both og them. 👌🏼❤️ When i need inspiration for my art work or my writing, these two are my inspirations. ( Beside myself offcourse)
11:59 I like the attention to detail ERB put into this, the kung fu panda bar is even stronger considering what Edgar Allan Poe did at 5:08 with his hands.
I always took the "beats off on a page" as Poe basically calling King a sellout! That he had "gone Hollywood" and was just cranking out mindless book after book with little to no thought, artistic expression or effort. That he just "beats off on a page" and sells it as a book to his publisher for a paycheck over & over. (surviving on name recognition only) Whereas HE (Poe) "suffered" for his "art". (literally) But that was just my take.
I'm so glad you know who Watsky is! He's actually been in a couple of ERB videos! He was in Dr. Seuss vs Shakespeare (he was Shakespeare), and Doc Brown vs Doctor Who (he played the 4th Doctor). Also, I think the next one you should check out is Wolverine vs Freddy Kreuger. Freddy is played by a really cool rapper/singer by the name of Wax! Wax was also in another ERB: Alfred Hitchcock vs Stephen Spielberg. He played Quentin Tarantino. My favorite ERB is definitely Artists vs TMNT. I recommend that one! Fun fact, Watsky wrote all his lines for this battle!
Marilyn Monroe vs Cleopatra is ruthless!!! There's one line in there that is just brutal. It's the kinda shit where somebody gotta bleed after saying dat! Fightin words homie!!🔥🔥(Knox, give women some shine on Women's History Month)
Lmao I decided to check and see if there was a new ERB reaction and just my luck there was one uploaded not even a minute ago. Why didn't I get a notification RUclips?!
Honestly i watched many reaction to ERBs during these years but you and Scru are the ones with the deeper knowledge of the topics. It's a pleasure to listen to someone that is able to appreciate the references, and has a deeper understandment of them. I do study ancient greek and latin, and the sum up you did of the post-Cesar situation in the Roman Empire in the Cleopatra vs Monroe video was awesome. I genuinely didn't expect a so detailed explaination. Props!
Something that you may not know is that King is a free writer. This means that he often goes into a story with a rough idea and let's the story grow on it's own while many others have plans of how things go before hand. This in general can allow for faster publishing, which is what the beats off on a page line comes down to. Also, fun fact about king's works, he tends to get bored with most of the books and start second guessing the way that they go. It's one of the reasons he has so many, hes on to the next book before he finishes the last. His writing style makes series more difficult which makes his accomplishments with the Dark Tower, his piece-de-resistance, far more impressive.
This is one of my favourites. Both were sick! The, “never more,” line tip the scales at the end for me, but King was playing catch-up on his last verse... :)
both Rage and Misery are books of his. The Tommyknockers is a book title as well as The Stand 12:00 which is why Stand is capitalized here. Basically, every capitalized word in Stephen King's rap is him name dropping one of his works
King started out writing as himself, his big first hit was Carrie - he invented Richard Bachmann (named after Bachmann Turner Overdrive IIRC) to write non-horror. Rage is a drama about a school shooting, Running Man is dystopian sci-fi (less over the top than the movie, but also much darker), The Long Walk is another dystopian sci-fi (set in the same future, IIRC), and so on.
I just want to say, I've seen a few people break these down; I like yours far more. You're breakdowns are so good, you have a true understanding of the material itself, and the history behind most of these. I love it! You catch waaaay more than other people I see with these, and that is awesome!
I liked watching your ERB breakdowns once in a while, but you've quickly become one of my leave-everything-I'm-doing-to-watch weekly joys. Thanks and keep at it please!
Misery was a book that was written by Stephen King and made into a movie! I've got an entire book about all of Edgar Allen Poe's works and I've read his first short story of it!
Every Watsky fan will have his Shakespeare v Dr. Seuss at the top of their favorites. That battle is also one that YOU will love because of the literary mechanisms they use - very out of the box styles/schemes!
Fun fact: Stephen King admited on twitter that he lose against Poe the same day that he lose this battle came out. Also he tweet some nice rimes sometimes since then
Watsky has stated on an ERB behind the scenes that he purposefully wrote Poe’s lines in Trochaic Octameter like in the Raven. Watsky’s first ERB Shakespeare vs Dr. Seuss, which is another one you should watch, he wrote the opening lines in that one to an Iambic Pentameter like most of Shakespeare’s plays. Basically both show you how stressed and unstressed syllable meters work, just opposite of each other.
Watzky is also in the Doc Brown, Doctor Who as well as the Shakespeare and Dr Seuss ERB. He’s the best part of those other two, they’re just not some of ERBs best
Absolutely love that you picked up on the use of troche in the first couple of Poe’s lines. That’s one of my absolute favorite details of these battles. They do the same thing with Shakespeare vs Dr. Seuss, which is equally good
Noooo... that one is one-sided AF. Clint dogstomped the father of Mixed Martial Arts. Like that was a slaughter. There wasn't enough of Lee left to put in a bucket.
Zach Sherwin is the guy who played King. He was also Alexander the Great, as mentioned, and Voltaire. He also plays Einstein, Sherlock Holmes, and Walt Disney is other ERB videos.
Nice that you caught what a trochee is (stressed to unstressed). If you watch the behind the scenes, Watsky talks about how it was cool to do this one after he did Shakespeare because he rhymed in iambic pentameter on that one which is the opposite (unstressed to stressed). It gave me a greater appreciation for the 1st verses of both those erbs after hearing him talk about it. I'd recommend William Shakespeare Vs Dr. Seuss or Newton Vs. Bill Nye
You caught those bars like an absolute god, I can't even get half of those references. P.S. You should react to Elon Musk vs Mark Zuckerberg! It's an absolute Banger.
My guy, your videos are insane. You earned yourself a subscriber! This is exactly the kind of reaction videos that are worth watching. After seeing your Tolkien vs Martin ERB I definitely think you need to check out the princess rap battles, in particular Maleficient vs Daenerys which is just insane.
Poes 's first verse was in iambic pentameter, which further speaks to Watsky's credit as he penned his verses. He also appears in Doctor Who vs. Doc Brown and William Shakespeare vs. Dr. Seuss.
That’s wrong. His first verse is in Trochaic Octameter, which is why he says he’ll “Choke [King] with a trochee”. Iambic Pentameter is William Shakespeare.
Bro I’m with you on the GRR Martin rant!!! I just watched 3 or 4 of your ERB breakdowns and I was close to subbing already but your love for GoT sent me over. I’m all in now.
Hey KNOX, I've been meaning to ask for a while now, what headphones do you use? Because in breakdowns you seem to hear every little detail in instrumental and all that, so I assume it must be good quality. Plus it looks comfortable. Can I get the brand or specific model or something, please? Have a good day man🤙
I love both of these authors! I have Poe's complete works. There's, I think, around 20 books I still need to get of King's. Then I'd have all of his, too. But by the time I get those, he'll probably have more out that I will also need to get!
"I'm not playing favorites, but Poe already won." *literally 5 seconds later* "...that's a cool flow TOO, though..." *laughs* I bet your wife is glad to have the ring. You be swapping sides faster than they're swapping schemes.

A fop is not necessarily a poser. I think it's someone who is either foolish, or very vain and concerned with fashion. Or both. I may be showing my age--I'm an old fart--but I think another term for a fop is someone who is "fabulous".
This is a dope one. Watsky also plays Shakespeare in ERB's Shakespeare vs Dr Suess. That bass that was like a heartbeat was a subtle nod to Poe's famous story, "The Telltale Heart", which was obviously shouted out in the next line. Rage and Misery are titles of two of King's novels.

Great take
This is actually one of the few ERB with a winner as the real King, always a big fan of Poe, conceded to him.
(surviving on name recognition only)
Whereas HE (Poe) "suffered" for his "art". (literally)
But that was just my take.
When you get Watsky you waste him if he isn't writing the verses
You should recognize who played King. He played Voltaire in philosophers and Alexander.
His name is Zack Sherwin.
Marilyn Monroe vs Cleopatra is ruthless!!! There's one line in there that is just brutal. It's the kinda shit where somebody gotta bleed after saying dat! Fightin words homie!!🔥🔥(Knox, give women some shine on Women's History Month)
I already know the line you're talking about. I always thought it was the deepest low blow in all of ERB. Top 10 of battles.
Next Knox you have to do Shakespeare vs Dr Suess it’s another WATSKY battle!
Classic battle
Love this one with Watskys shakespeare style flow is amazing...
Still one of my favorites to this day!
You can skip thing 1 and 2
After his first verse, "I'm not gonna play favorites, but Edgar Allen Poe already won this battle"- Dude, I almost spit out my coffee LOL!
Knox, try watching ERB'S Bill Gates vs Steve Jobs. Also, still recommending ERB's Jack the Ripper vs Hannibal Lector and Rasputin vs Stalin.
Ceasar vs Shaka Zulu is a short but really good one
Props!
Woke up. Saw this. Clicked immediately.
The guy that Poe is also in Dr Suess vs Shakespeare Does an amazing job! Do that one next!
Honestly, this one is one of my favorite ERBs that most Reactors just...see as meh. So its nice to someone else see how good this rap battle is.
This is one of my favourites. Both were sick! The, “never more,” line tip the scales at the end for me, but King was playing catch-up on his last verse... :)
Loving those ERB breakdown, kindly please do Bonnie an Clyde vs Romeo and Juliet. PLEASE.
Yesss we need this
both Rage and Misery are books of his. The Tommyknockers is a book title as well as The Stand 12:00 which is why Stand is capitalized here.
Basically, every capitalized word in Stephen King's rap is him name dropping one of his works
You have a talent where you can turn a 2:25 song into a 20 minute reaction. Well played, well played.
Stephe got nereves saying "Masque of the Red Death" is barely blood curdling, when he used one of the lines from it in The Shining.
Fun fact, Steven King has actually seen this battle.
Watsky and Sherwin are beast enough by themselves. But together? You're in for a treat.
Rage is the only King story I could get through.
I just want to say, I've seen a few people break these down; I like yours far more. You're breakdowns are so good, you have a true understanding of the material itself, and the history behind most of these. I love it! You catch waaaay more than other people I see with these, and that is awesome!
Ayy I’m early, check out Deadpool vs Bobba Fett ERB
Watsky is actually in another erb as well. he was in Doctor Seuss vs William Shakespeare
Awesome work
Next up: Spielberg vs Hitchcock, it also pack Movies in the bars
I liked watching your ERB breakdowns once in a while, but you've quickly become one of my leave-everything-I'm-doing-to-watch weekly joys. Thanks and keep at it please!
Zach Sherwin has some of the best bars in ERB. Anything with him in it is gonna be good. But you should definitely react to Stan Lee vs. Jim Henson
Misery was a book that was written by Stephen King and made into a movie!
I've got an entire book about all of Edgar Allen Poe's works and I've read his first short story of it!
You have got to do Martin Luther King vs. GHANDI!!
Been waiting for this one
i would love to see his reaction to batman vs sherlock holmes. this has probably one of the funniest opening lines ever
Every Watsky fan will have his Shakespeare v Dr. Seuss at the top of their favorites. That battle is also one that YOU will love because of the literary mechanisms they use - very out of the box styles/schemes!
Mans gotta do Shaka Zulu vs Julius Caesar, it’s an absolutely fantastic listen and I’d love a comprehensive breakdown and reaction to it
These reactions are amazing. I love BARZ but this guy really knows how to point them out
Fun fact: Stephen King admited on twitter that he lose against Poe the same day that he lose this battle came out.
I love that you're not even shy about it. I love both of them.
Actually he married her so she could use his insurance due to being really sick
Absolutely love that you picked up on the use of troche in the first couple of Poe’s lines. That’s one of my absolute favorite details of these battles. They do the same thing with Shakespeare vs Dr. Seuss, which is equally good
This, MLK vs Ghandi, and Obama vs Romney were my intro to ERB.
We also need to appreciate their facial expressions and body language-the actors and rappers are amazing.
Who else is waiting for Knox to react to Clint Eastwood vs Bruce Lee?
Noooo... that one is one-sided AF.
Stan Lee vs. Jim Henson is my favorite ERB. Henson's first verse has one of the best internal rhyme schemes in all of ERB
Tom McDonald drops a new song, Knox with another ERB, Friday's are awesome 😋
Right?!? I love Fridays 😃
🚨🚨🚨🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Exactly
Plus Harry mack with new omegale bar
shame it comes just once a week🙄
loved that erb did this, imma poe fan in a king household so it was fun sharing it with my aunt! so glad she likes erb too lol
Hey KNOX, I've been meaning to ask for a while now, what headphones do you use? Because in breakdowns you seem to hear every little detail in instrumental and all that, so I assume it must be good quality. Plus it looks comfortable. Can I get the brand or specific model or something, please? Have a good day man🤙
Earliest I've caught one of your breakdowns. Dope stuff. You're probably one of the best at picking up the meaning of the bars.
King has single novels that are longer than the entire works of poe
I love both of these authors! I have Poe's complete works. There's, I think, around 20 books I still need to get of King's. Then I'd have all of his, too. But by the time I get those, he'll probably have more out that I will also need to get!
"I'm not playing favorites, but Poe already won."
*literally 5 seconds later*
"...that's a cool flow TOO, though..."
*laughs* I bet your wife is glad to have the ring. You be swapping sides faster than they're swapping schemes.
Hey man, I've seen every ERB multiple times. I thought I've had them all, but ur knowledge, ur expertise and ur skills help me discover stuff I've never heard before! You're magnificent! Your tracks are dope as hell, talented beyond belief! Keep goin' man! I'm eager to see/hear more from you! stay safe, stay healthy
When you whispered “Big dick bibliography” I lost my shit 😂.Never a dull moment with the dude Knox Hill! Keep up the good work and spilling that knowledge man, dope stuff.
I like your commentary and your knowledge A LOT. I just wish you would do a full blind react first, then go back and break it down. I would love to see your reactions throughout the whole song and see the points where you get excited so you can talk about those points in full and go through those processes of emotions.
A fop is not necessarily a poser. I think it's someone who is either foolish, or very vain and concerned with fashion. Or both. I may be showing my age--I'm an old fart--but I think another term for a fop is someone who is "fabulous".
That's exactly what that means. (I'm not old just a nerd lol)
I love watching you breakdown these ERB raps. Can't wait for the next one.
Love to see Jack the Ripper vs Hannibal Lecter it's another hitter
This is a dope one. Watsky also plays Shakespeare in ERB's Shakespeare vs Dr Suess. That bass that was like a heartbeat was a subtle nod to Poe's famous story, "The Telltale Heart", which was obviously shouted out in the next line. Rage and Misery are titles of two of King's novels.
TODAY is a BIG day.. 'Cause TODAY is THE DAY that I subscribed to THE BEST breakdown channel that youtube has to offer!
YES a new knox hill video! But first.... That intro song played on repeat... I'll be back
