In this vid I show a recent pour of a lite deck roof and discuss advantages of the method as well as comparing and contrasting methods and brands available!
This has been the construction standard in Brazil for many decades. Since we don't have snow here, it is very common to build this way. Technology has evolved a lot here in this regard. The concrete is applied with waterproofing additives, and asphalt paint or now modern acrylic emulsions can be applied and you won't have any problems with water. You can even cover it with ceramic tiles and use the space as a beautiful rooftop.
Just found your channel and started binge watching. Lots of great info, thanks for sharing. I just did some floors like this very similar to lite deck. I used Quad-Deck, it too has embedded joists in the foam. It sure saves a ton of time Installing!
Very cool. I want to build an ICF single story, full basement with hydronic in floor heat throughout. I'm think of doing a single slope roof, low side facing south then installing solar on the roof for off grid power and mounting as cheap as possible.
Love this! Can you please show the overhang detail when you’re building it? I am planning on a vacation home build (owner contractor) in the north east and will go the route of ICF for walls and floors. I wish you were up in VT!
I'm wondering about doing a slightly sloped - basically flat icf roof in New Hampshire where we get annual temperature swings from -30 to 100+.with 6 to 8 feet of annual snowfall. How do you control cracking with that amount of expansion and contraction? I see you don't saw any control joints. Is it even possible or just cost prohibitive in this climate as I've never seen one around here.

Thanks for the video. Looks great. Have you thought about an elastomeric traffic deck coating on the roof? Easy to inspect and maintain since it's not hidden under pavers.
I like to use tpo, there’s different underlayment if you are using pavers and bison pedestals but too is a fairly cheap super durable solution! They do promote laying a membrane over the beams before the slab portion is poured to leave the concrete exposed but it lessens the span by quite a bit and there’s no way to repair if there’s an issue…. Tpo on top leaves the structural superiority in tact and is easy to fix if/when there’s a problem!

I live in the GulfCoast region prone to hurricanes, and torrential rain downpours throughout the year. Thank you! Would you pour these in interior floors too? If it’s not too difficult to add plumbing, electrical, and hvac up through the forms why go with a truss and thick advantech subfloor? Since ICF floor decking needs bracing, why not use commercial steel decking? Doesn’t seem like you need the bracing with that route right?
Yes I have a video with a huge house that’s all lite deck floors! Commercial steel then requires steel structure to hold it up because it’s effectively just a slab, this form creates a 3 dimensional slab and beam decking that’s monolithic, very strong!

TPO is a common roofing membrane. It is competing with EPDM roofing membrane because it is cheaper but it will last maybe twenty years vs. EPDM which will last at least 50 years. Both EPDM & TPO can get punctured but TPO is a little stronger (it has a built-in supporting mesh). The EPDM is pure rubber and stays fixable in Sun. People also use EPDM in their fish pond. RV roofs used to be covered by EPDM and now switching to TPO because it is cheaper.

40ish, depending on a lot of variables
@@all3pools Thanks
What's a tpo?
Thermoplastic overlay
TPO is a common roofing membrane. It is competing with EPDM roofing membrane because it is cheaper but it will last maybe twenty years vs. EPDM which will last at least 50 years. Both EPDM & TPO can get punctured but TPO is a little stronger (it has a built-in supporting mesh). The EPDM is pure rubber and stays fixable in Sun. People also use EPDM in their fish pond. RV roofs used to be covered by EPDM and now switching to TPO because it is cheaper.
What kinda strength can an icf roof have? Flat roof. Snowy climate
Depending on engineering but it can achieve hundreds of lbs per foot if necessary
@cuttingedgehomes9251 let's separate this into 3 tiers.
Teir 1 is possible and need professional assistance to implement it correctly.
Teir 2 possible, but major considerations may make other designs more appealing.
Teir 3
Don't do it
I want to build my home gym on my flat roof icf home. Do you guys build in Hawaii?
Lite deck can be parked on in most cases including my New Mexico build, as long as it’s engineered it should be totally fine! I don’t do HI at the moment but one of my trainees is moving to the big island if he hasn’t already, if he could put a crew together I could easily be persuaded to come consult lol
@@all3pools How about NW Montana? Have any crews out this way?
LiteDeck vs Quad-Deck?
I’m not positive about quad, but I’m in love with the modular nature of build deck and amdeck, shipping things that fit on a pallet save tons of logistical dollars for not having oversized pallets!
Its not to expensive to rent shoring, a couple aluminum I beams and some shoring posts would have been less labor intensive and quicker to install for the false work. Love the content btw.
For small projects like this we’ve always had lumber handy and my boys are very fast framers…. We actually have two truckloads of legit bracing coming for the Coulter lite deck project!
ThermaSteel F-panel is another option
Because of the great weather, Los Angeles building code lets you get away with building leaky wood-framed houses with R13 walls and R30 ceilings. None of the builders I know have even heard of ICF. However, I want to build ICF on my next two new construction projects to showcase how we should be building future houses in Los Angeles. I want to be able to pass a blower door test and get to LEED Certification or Passive House numbers. My design style will be Palm Springs mid-century modern mixed with a little Eichler flair. Do you work in Los Angeles or know any ICF professionals who would?
I trained a guy from LA back in March, he’s a professional photographer who’s house burned in a recent fire and he’s building the entire thing epically all icf! I’m sure his crew will be incredibly well versed in all things icf by the time they are done with his project! I’m happy to share his contact, email be at aaron.cuttingedgehomes@gmail.com
Respectfully, I would like to say Light Deck looks like a great product. The cost of anything today is grossly overpriced and the fact that the Banks are going to fail within a year from now, I would never attempt to use this product. 99% can not afford it.
Na
I don't think by the time that insulation goes bad inside the ceiling either of us would have to worry about it.
???
Took a drink every time you said "Uhh". Now I'm too drunk to watch the ending.
Sweet, when you go out of your way to make informative content for nothing I’ll take your criticism seriously👍🏼
Hope it will not disappear in flames. Ever heard of forst fire ?
It’s concrete…. The foam is encased in concrete…. If you watched you’d know that, think it’s more resilient to “forst” fire than any other roof system I’m
Aware of…
Man, this guy needs to limit his caffeine intake!! The info is good, but the used car lot delivery..........!!
Used car lot…. Geeze man make fun of a guy using his god given adhd as a force for good in the world…. You are why more people aren’t putting themselves out there!
a rambling mess of a channel.
Says the guy with 90 subs😘
@@all3pools I don't have a following and I don't care to.
Your insecurity comes out in every rant in your videos, seeking validation. You even responding to me with a child's perception of a comeback, only hammers my point further.
Get to the point and get over yourself in the future, please, and thanks.
"This is going to house a couple cool cars"
Not showing or telling what those "cool" cars are. Only throwing a dingy stock photo. That seems poor if you ask me, coming from someone with 10k plus subs.
Can you put a Concrete Wall ledge about 3 feet tall around the perimeter so people can be up there. Also why not just put some kind of plastic then put 3 inchs of dirt and then grass that doesn't grow. Then you have the best Roof Top then.
You CAN do all of those things if it makes sense in the buildings mission…. This buildings mission is to be a fortress for some very fancy cars…. So no lol;)
@@all3pools You don't have to be rude about it. A Grass roof top is very eco friendly much better than those crappy plastic tiles you were thinking about, which would get all kinds of junk under them anyway you dumbass. lol; )
All of the ICF roof builds that I have seen using Zypex have leaked.. That product just doesn't seem to work in that application.
It works, but you’ll never make me believe it will seal the inevitable cracks, which is why I advocate against it
@@all3pools it works until it doesn't lol..
