There's a hypothesis that the blebs form from mechanical friction with the most prominent rib. The reason thin men are more prone then is because the space between the ribs is less padded, so the ribs stand out more prominently. Also, in tall people the ribs are farther apart
The first time i had one (a spontaneus p.t) was painful, it felt like being stabed in the chest and lost breath, all of sudden. Didn't thought it was serious so i spent like 4 months like that, with shortness of breath, cough and some pain in chest and my right arm (thus i imagined it was some kind of muscular injury) until i got a x-ray and doctors found it. Last year got another one, same lung, now i just woke up with shortness of breath and chest/arm pain. This time went straight to the hospital. Got a chest tube inserted for a week 'till it dissapeared. Doctors haven't figured out why it happened.

Do you have a family history of spontaneous pneumothorax? My family has a genetic condition (albeit an extremely rare one) called Birt Hogg Dubé syndrome. One of the main symptoms is lung cysts which can burst and cause lung collapses.
Im trying so hard to understand pneumothorax after having it 2 times, i underwent surgery a few weeks ago and was released from hospital last week. I had 2 tubes connected for 17 days, and when they took them out after a few days of no leakage, it was only partially successful because the tubes had been there for so long that on a painscale of 1-10, it was way above 10, and not a 4 as the doctor said. I didnt get any painkillers or anything else, i just had to endure. And so air got trapped back in because the pain after the first tube being taken out was unreal, and i was sent home the day after with 6.5cm of air outside my lung, but after xray 3 days ago it was down to 4cm. Now im hoping the next xray in almost 2 weeks will be gone. But they didnt say carbondioxide, they just said air. Ive learned more on youtube than any doctor or nurse has ever told me.
@@osmosis It definitely was. I hope sometime in the future they will find more causes as to what can cause a pneumothorax to happen. Both times ive had it happen to me, my body was either sleeping in a weird position, or stretched in a twisted angle.
