- I’m flying Hawaiian Airlines’ newest First Class today though unfortunately I ended up in hotel quarantine in Hawaii.
Hawaiian fly the longest domestic flight in the world from Boston & New York all the way over to Honolulu Hawaii. They use their A330 for this though also run A321’s on their West Coast destinations. As a primary vacation destination, it’s interesting to experience this flight solo. Especially considering the layout for this product of 2-2-2 it’s not exactly ideal if you’re on your own (as I found out to my detriment).

I once found someone sitting in my seat. She had moved out of her cramped economy seat into my extra legroom exit row seat, that I had paid extra for! When I sat down, the guy next to me told me that she had tried the same trick with his seat before I arrived. Besides being damned rude, it's also illegal to move seats before take off.
Thats awful, and exactly as you say not permissible. You've paid for a seat therefore anyone who also wants a seat like yours should pay the same or make do with what they've been assigned. Sadly there are too many entitled people which seem to think they're above the rest of us and the same rules don't apply
@@Trektrendy that happened to me once as well. I had an aisle seat on Emirates 777 from MCO to DXB in Business class and the the other guy had the window seat. When I arrived at my seat, he was sitting in my seat because he liked the aisle. Luckily, I wanted a window seat but couldn't get one at check in so we were happy to switch and informed the cabin crew as well. But you still shouldn't switch without asking the passenger who has paid for that seat. Karens😂
They are no difference than porch pirates... they are seat pirates.. taking what is not theres and seeing if they can get away with it. Glad you caught them at their game, as in Monopoly didnt let them pass go.. didnt let them get 200$ and go straight to jail.. LOL

@@Evange you’re right - it’s not illegal so much as not allowed. So, you can’t do it, but you won’t go to jail for it. You’ll be told to move back to your assigned seat because especially on narrow body planes, weight distribution is carefully arranged for takeoff. If you would like to move, all you have to do is ask a flight attendant. Always make sure they know you’re moving. It’s kind of like in a store - it’s not your personal space, so get permission before taking any liberties. Moving without permission is a jerk move. And these days it could get you in trouble. Flight attendants don’t take any flak. They’ll have the captain kick you off the plane for being mouthy to them. And I applaud that. They take enough crap without people being thoughtless about yet another simple thing to do: ask for permission to use something that doesn’t belong to them. 👍🏻
Who sits in someone else's seat before the doors close? Who does that and where were they radicalized?
It's madness isn't it. It's just not fair and I could see some people feeling obliged to move. I get the dude wanted to sit next to his friend, but you have to be more organised at booking your ticket. Ah well - I could see them both enjoying economy together 😅

I've flown first class 6 times in the last year and 3 of the times someone sat in my seat assuming I'd be excited to swap with them. Each time I stood firm and took the seat I wanted, and each time the person whined as if I was doing them wrong.
Obviously the FAs never help.
This kind of thing needs to be shamed WAY harder. Deciding that the person who prepared is less important than yourself is so bizarre to me and I honestly think they need to start punishing people who do it. People just have zero shame anymore.

At one time people would ask if someone didn’t mind changing seats to sit closer to family and I normally offer to swap for times like this if its in the same class but just claiming a seat is BS.

A lot of people assume right away that no one is sitting next to them. A very stupid move i call it. I usually wait until pushback to decide if i want to take the seat next to me (speaking pre-covid of course).
A newlywed couple going on their honeymoon, apparently, wanted me to switch seats. I felt a bit guilty for refusing but I have such trouble sleeping on an airplane, the window seat is what I needed and they wanted me to switch to an aisle seat in the back of 1st class. I couldn’t do it. I needed to sleep. Ugh

@@honiedew yes unless of course there are some language issues. I know many times some people take other seats out of ignorance not on purpose because they just have comprehension issues or never travelled before.
My flight with H.A. was absolutely amazing! For my first ever first class experience, it really was special for me. My family rode both ways from Phoenix to Oahu to Phoenix in July 2021. They gave us anything we needed, the food was delicious, the drinks were super great (and we got our boarding drink!), the bathrooms were clean, the blanket was so nice my whole family brought them home and we still use them. I rate it an A rated flight!
I love this product but you are so correct in saying this ONLY works if you are traveling with someone! There is no doubt that if this product were for business travelers instead of mostly holiday travelers the configuration simply would not work in the long run. Business travelers will not pay to sit like this with a stranger. Excellent review!

I think you'd be more surprised flying Hawaiian's economy class.. It is the only US airlines that serve complimentary hot food on domestic routes (I believe free alcohol too)

@@Chereese0808 Hawaiian does from time to time due to promotions offer free wine to economy seats. Our family about 5 years ago were served wine as a local Hawaiian wine maker was doing a promo.
Mom and I went on one of the first flights to New York, but got boxed food...I remember the sandwich in a box from 10 years ago, when those planes first arrived here. I forgot what class our seats were though.

aha thankfully not quite that bad. He was sat in an aisle seat at the front of the aircraft but wanted to sit next to his friend. They both went back to premium eco (lots of these seats were empty) half way through the flight to sit next to each other.

I love the Hawaiian livery so bright and so matches with the impression of Hawaii. Looks a very nice product, im sure the cabin crew were super friendly too. Good review. I agree with you that the outdoor areas at HNL are unique and refreshingly different from other airports. You obviously got the best on board meal service that is currently available on any domestic First Class airline in the States. A pet peeve of mine is "seat stealing", especially on a long flight when I have gone to the trouble of booking a particular seat. Glad that you were able to claim your assigned seat. I have seen instances where the FA's did not make the guilty party move. They just didn't want to deal with the problem. Take care and have a good week.
There’s no such thing as seat stealing. You have to pay for seat choice in the us so you will absolutely get your spot and FA will guarantee it. And hawaii ain’t a domestic flight

Honestly your shirt wasn’t loud at all. It looked good on you. A lot of tourists wear really TACKY Hawaiian shirts instead of springing for one that’s actually flattering.

Thanks for sharing your experience. Not a big fan of having to climb over your seatmate if you have the window seat and the seatmate's bed is fully deployed. Sort of unremarkable. I realize the US carriers don't have to try very hard because there's not much competition which is sad.

I've taken many flights to Hawaii, but Hawaiian airlines was never an option from my hometown. I may reconsider my next flight to HI. With humor, I could tell you many stories about the behavior of people flying to the islands for the first time!

I would explain to the flight attendant or person in my seat, that I thought the way it works is, that you are allowed to see what seats are available and then pick the seat you 'd like. This way, when you come on the plane you will know where you sit and to be able to have the seat you wanted.
I would then ask, if that's not true, what does allowing to reserve my seat actually do?

That person who was sat in your seat was totally out of order why did the FA not challenge him the seat should have been cleaned before you sat down especially in the current pandemic it’s not good infection control. Stay safe and well, looking forward to your next videos
Great review. I've always been curious of Hawaiian Air's service and planes. But Wait... Let me Get this straight. You were in Hawaii and basically just stayed in your hotel for quarantine purposes before taking your flight to the mainland? Surely you must have gotten your fair share of the sun, sand and surf?

I've always found Hawaiian to be strong in spirit - this from a person who had an 8 hour delay due to the lack of an available plane.

With your editing I initially thought the guy trying to swap seats at the beginning of the flight tried to hold your hand. I found it odd until I quickly realized it was a couple enjoying an alcoholic beverage. Had a good laugh!
I recently flew United from SFO to Maui and was lucky to get the latest Polaris 1-2-1 set up. It was fantastic
United has gotten far better, I'll give it to em since they have a lot of planes to refurbish but the new interiors are 10/10

What a neat way to fly. I do miss Hawaii, and would like to visit again. After seeing this, I would definitely take a flight on Hawaiian Air Lines, in the Business Class, which looks more like First Class. I will bring my I-Pad Pro with me and watch my own movies, (that I can get on the I-Tunes Store, and bring my own headphones, which would be safer during the pandemic. I have been vaccinated so, hopefully, I won’t have to quarantine for two weeks. I will wear my mask, and bring a carryon bag, and I found the perfect bag for my future MacBook Pro, I-Pad Pro and accessories, it can also be my purse, but it has handles, a shoulder strap and straps so that I can wear it like a backpack.
I got much better bed linens on Hawaiian Business Class from Tokyo/Narita to Honolulu. That was an overnight flight and hours longer.

These guys should have planned better. If you wanna sit together have one of you buy both tickets and pay your buddy back, especially now.
Alternatively I know families will often go to the gate agents to ask for help getting sits together and so they could have tried that before assuming it would be cool.

Since I'm from Hawaii I was happy to hear we didn't rank the worst. I do realize we could do better but honestly that is the best Hawaii will offer. And even 'that' they think is top notch lol.

I’ve flown H A several times to Manila and it was never great we had the DVD hand heads and just seats it was not great and the terminals are a long long long way apart you had to run to catch your flight
I've decided that I'd totally take your UCC deep.
I fly with Hawaiian from Australia but am yet to try first class. The economy service is great,even the domestic service to LAX had free food and drinks ( amazing). As for seat stealing I had a lady do that to me on a Virgin Australia flight. As soon as we took off the crew came straight to me and spoilt me rotten with free booze and as much as I like.

@@MrSeanJava they gave me the freebies because I had been inconvenienced. This was back in the Branson, Godfrey days. The seat BTW was an exit row seat so I was pretty P. O. d
@@1truebloodlove we were running late and ready for departure. I was the last one on the plane and could see the crew were getting nowhere with this stubborn bitch. As a result I didn't argue and went to the back of the plane instead of the exit row seat I was supposed to have. The crew, in real Branson style, spoilt me rotten and just said anything you want is on the house. Bad luck to my seat stealer who still had to pay for everything.

This video was filmed in March, right? You mentioned AA as an alternative to Hawaiian lay flat seating; United wasn't running their 777-200 with 2-2-2 Polaris Business Class from Honolulu to Calfornia?
From a solo traveller perspective, AA’s 777 has a 1-2-1 config. Whilst UA does run their Polaris product it’s 2-2-2 as you say, but this is much better suited to a couple travelling. I’d still rather Hawaiian over United if flying as a couple providing them price is right

I think you'll find the Singapore to London leg of the Australia to the UK flights is longer, google says just over 13 hours but I have flown that route a few times & I'm sure it was longer than that. Just getting out of Australia from the east coast adds several hours to this time, but you do get to change planes at Singapore.
But it's not a domestic flight then , is it? It would be international as the UK, Australia and Singapore are all different countries.
So how did you only do 3 days of quarantine then be able to take a flight out?
Funny enough I was on an American overnight flight flying back from Hawaii in April and someone sat in my aisle seat (which I paid $40 to choose since I can't sleep on planes and hate waking people up to use the restroom). I walked to my seat and someone was in it. The man asked if he can have my seat in exchange for his, a middle seat behind him. When I said no, I really need the aisle, and I paid for the upgrade, not only did he get upset but the people around me were all frustrated that I acted like this because he didn't get to sit next to his girlfriend; so the people around started to reshuffle themselves so he can sit next to his girlfriend, the flight attendants weren't happy with this and yelled at everyone and asked to return to their seats because we were delaying boarding and we can reshuffle when the doors close.
Because of this fiasco we departed 45 mins late, ran into unexpected counter trade winds, lost our gate at our arrival airport and waited an hour on the runway. To rub salt on the wound when the doors closed there was a completely empty row three rows down. People sit where you are told and if you want to move, do so when everyone is seated. This cant be that hard.
I don't understand why people (especially strangers) get upset when a couple can't sit together because they didn't pay for a seat together. The way that I see it is that if you do not chose your seats in advance then you have to be okay with getting whatever seat you get regardless of if you're with your party. If you want to be seated with your party then choose your damn seat and pay the money for it. But seriously it's ridiculous that people think that someone who paid money for a specific seat will be okay with settling for a different seat.

I would love to take a first class trip to Hawaii and a return trip first class from Baltimore MD BWI airport. I would like to be in Hawaii for one week that's a trip on my bucket list someday 😌 ☺ 🙂.

lol Congrats on reaching a million subs on your channel. The Hawaiian Airlines' 787-9 Dreamliner is a big improvement over the A330.
I live in Hawaii, and have flown both First and economy on Hawaiian Airlines. It is always a first class experience irrespective of where you sit. I would not fly any other airline if I had my druthers. Thankfully my family is on the West Coast so I usually don’t have to.
I mean, thats first class for american standards. Anywhere else in the world thats considered a bad business class

@@Trektrendy still awaiting the chance for vaccination here, will not be completed until around September. But first flight probably not until January to Buenos Aires and then on to Antarctica 😁

It's a shame Hawaiian cancelled their order for the 330 800, there's a good chance Delta will order them as they're near perfect 767 replacements. If Delta had ordered them a couple years ago there's more chance Hawaiian would have kept their order.
Not sure if your aware, but Hawaiian is acquiring brand new Boeing 787-900 series aircraft. First aircraft delivery is set for early 2023. Cheers
the 300-800neo is too much for operate, Arbus would neet to upgrade them for make then more to the circumstances of the others. The 787-8 looks the best option, but we know what happens.

Oh what’s the date of your trip? Why did you have to quarantine in your hotel? Didn’t you need to show negative Covid test prior to departing for HNL?
This was filmed at the end of March. I was unable to get a test at my final place of departure due to my super tight schedule of flights. This meant I had to quarantine in a hotel upon arrival in Hawaii
