Gerry O'Connor shows how he uses his right hand to play the banjo in this compilation of teaching moments during the 2012 Milwaukee Irishfest Summer School.
another i cud say is in developing a style nobody is ever goin to hav the exact same style as as gerry iv met on few occasions take a little bit from everyone an develop your own unique style. Alasdair
I have noticed you have put a lot of videos up of workshops, as a 4th year student in Music, I have got many masterclasses from many of those whose workshops you have attended. Who do you feel was best or perhaps benefited the most from?
Enda Scahill, Martin Howley, Brian Kelly, Cathal Hayden, I like 'em all There's a wealth of great players out there, and they don't get enough recognition
Mr. O"Connor has a lot of pick exposed compared to a lot of other players (and I'm new to the tenor banjo) and it looks like he uses a pretty thick pick. Does anyone know what thickness (mm) of pick he using?
Well id say its good for trying to play faster and measuring how comfortable you are at speed even for the seasoned banjo player. It also forces you to play through a tune at constant speed. It also could help with using the wrist constantly.starting slowly with a scale or exercise and speed it up and keep making sure your using the wrist. Metronomes can be used by experienced musician as well i think

you just learn from playing in sessions, Jigs are in Threes 1 2 3 , 1 2 3 and reels are in Fours you can remember it by the way jig has 3 letters and reel has 4
Well...i really do like the playing of mister O’connor ,,a very very bright player,,👍 But i use different right hand technics ,,, My closed right hand rolls the strings in different ways with a very short point of the plectrum ,,,73,,88 dunlop ,,or mostly thin hard Well,,that’s bloody bright for a good speed..,,with a lot of noise ,,aye😀 Thanks 👍

No, we didn't ask him that. I suspect that he would tell you to use one if you need it. ;')
Does anyone knows what kind of pick does he use?
He was using a Dunlop nylon .73, the darker gray one.
