  • www.crosstrainingenduro.com Our mods on the 2022 Sherco 250SE and 300SE Factory models. We have at least 10 rides on the new Sherco Factory models now. Cue the French laugh. There have been a lot of questions about our planned modifications and our first impressions. I will do some comprehensive videos about this soon. But so far? Nous sommes tres heureux. How you say? We are very happy with 2022 Sherco 250SE and 300SE Factory dirt bikes! But they are easily fixed and overall these are very impressive motorbikes. I can still remember how shiny the motorbikes were in the dealer's showroom. And our terrible attempts to remember our French lessons from forty years ago. What about bling for the Sherco 250SE?And there are plenty of other happy owners too. At a recent hard enduro event, we were surprised to see so many Shercos in the field, and they won first and second place outright. I still thought Sherco was a boutique brand in Australia but theSherco 300SE bikes are definitely mainstream now. We are discovering a few little issues which we will list in a video soon. My aim was to spend as little as possible and reduce weight. We are always amused when riders say they have bought the lightest motorbike possible, then add a huge amount of weight with bling items. This is a free method for a much lighter clutch. I did experiment with this for one ride... and yes it makes a big difference! Is it a good long-term solution? I don't know. I googled a lot to find any riders who had trouble with this modification, but I could not find any reported problems. I put tape under the lever mounts so they would spin in a crash instead of breaking. Unfortunately the clutch lever broke in a simple crash at a standstill. The Brembo clutch mount is very expensive so I bought a Clake One Light clutch on the Sherco 300SEinstead. It only cost about $70 more than the Brembo unit. The Sherco clutch is quite heavy compared to most other brands so this has fixed that problem dramatically. The clutch feels as light as a trials clutch now. Some Sherco owners just remove two of the six clutch springs of the Sherco 250SE and 300SE Factory bikes. A lot of KTM riders were doing this years ago when KTM clutches were quite heavy. If anyone has encountered problems after removing two clutch springs on a Sherco 250SE, let me know. The KYB suspension on the Factory edition is superb the harder you ride. However, the forks do feel a bit harsh for slower technical terrain. The standard gearing is excellent for everyday enduro riding. However, we swapped the 49 tooth rear sprocket for a 52 tooth. This has been great for our slow technical terrain. Now we can ride in second gear most of the time, and just choose first gear when it gets really rough. The gear ratios are quite broad so the Shercos still cruise nicely in sixth gear on open trails. We definitely needed handlebar risers. And many Sherco riders agree. My dealer suggested reducing the compression damping to only three 'clicks' for the Sherco 300SE. This helped a lot, but eventually I reduced it to zero and it's just about perfect now for our style of riding on the Sherco 250SE and 300SE Factory bikes. Someone told me Sherco use the same handlebars from their trials motorbikes. This makes sense as they are very low. What else? I am too tall for almost any motorbike. I usually fit Fastway footpegs which I can drop into a lower rearward position. I tried a free modification. It will be interesting to see if this changes when we fit a different brand of tyre. We certainly won't be fitting the Michelins again, the rear tyre costs about AUD$260.Ouch. So that's our report after 10 rides. We will do a more comprehensive video later. Au revoir, mon ami! You can saw off the bottom part of this mount and place it on top, which lowers the footpegs slightly. Every bit helps! A friend calls his Sherco the turbocharged tractor. The Sherco 250SE 'grunt' is very impressive, even with the 250 two stroke. The engines simply don't quit on steep slow climbs, even just above idle. And it all helps with the traction too. Yesterday we did a lot of slow hill climbs over wet tree roots, clay and loose rubble. But the rear wheels just keep hooking up. The engine characteristics are a big part of the explanation. However, it might be the Michelin tyres too, which are known for good traction.

      You will warp/blue the steel plates running it with 4 springs. Took about 60-70 hours to happen on my 14 2t, with a modded engine. Swap out three of the springs for the KTM clutch springs, and add a different lever. I use the ARC power lever.

    Superb looking bikes. The KYB suspension on my Wr 250f is literally a lifesaver when you hit the unexpected at speed, slightly harsh on the slow choppy stufff though. I would love a 300sef but I'm pretty sure you can't plate them in NZ. Your reviews are Superb.

      the kyb on my sherco is really stiff at low speed too, especially the fork. i opened compression all the way and rebound is 9 clicks closed. works quite well, i really like the front wheel planted without any bumbs being transfered into my arms. i really don't enjoy wide open rebound.

  • @garretthorner
    @garretthorner 2 года назад +1

    My biggest issues with the sherco is that parts seem to break easier than on a KTM/Husq/gasgas, it’s much harder to work on with a bunch of the bolts being in weird hard to reach places and the air filter being wider that the frame when you try to put it in (really annoying because where I live I have to change it every 1-2 rides), and it is quite heavy for someone like me who is 140lbs (63.5kg).
    The weight doesn’t bother me unless the bike falls upside down or towards the downside of a side hill, I can’t imagine someone who weighs 170lbs (77kg) or more would care about the weight, and it really feels like one of the lightest bikes when you ride it.
    There’s some other small issues here and there I have with it like the battery location, stock clutch pull, stock e-start easily breaking in crashes, parts availability (in USA), etc.
    Overall I really like the bike and it’s a joy to ride

    • @crosstrainingenduro
      @crosstrainingenduro  2 года назад +2

      Interesting points, Garrett. I do know one industry guy who said some hard enduro riders on Shercos say some parts on the bike tend to break easier compared to other brands. A few owners have said the mapping switch breaks very easily. The stock clutch pull really is an oversight, it should be on par with other brands by now. Removing two springs seems to be the free option... working well for me so far.

  • @gophop
    @gophop 2 года назад +1

    Interesting that you think the clutch master is expensive. Did you look for the Sherco part number specifically? It's the same Brembo master that KTM uses. My KTM came with a 10mm piston. I wanted a 9mm. KTM is $250+. Sherco part number was $130! It's exactly the same part.
    Regarding the peg mod. Have you added additional shims? Because you've turned some of that peg, the thickness of the hacksaw blade, into dust, it can't possibly fit as snug as before the mod.
    I've been adding lightness to my bike, too, recently. I've switched from my regular bark buster setup (drilled and tapped bars with Cycra Pro Bends with BRP bar clamps) to KTM closed, plastic guards. They're a fraction of the weight and less than half the price. But the levers are still protected. The plastic is pretty trick. It flexes a ton but doesn't snap or crease. I've dumped 2 bikes with them several times now - no damage! And the bars can flex naturally with these guards. I recommend it.

    • @crosstrainingenduro
      @crosstrainingenduro  2 года назад +1

      I didn't think to shop around, doh. Possibly Sherco Australia charge quite a bit for the part. Interesting change with the handguards. The Traction eRag guys are doing a test of handguards and said the Cycras were heavy but seem to use a cheaper alloy, it bent far too easily in their tests. But they need to do more testing before making conclusions.

      Interesting! I've googled around everywhere and never heard of a problem. What year model was it, Lucas? Sherco owners were having issues with clutch plates burning out fast until they changed them recently... might have been the 2021 models.

      @@crosstrainingenduro Not to sure, I think 2020 or 2021
      Just checkout his RUclips videos of the sherco. He tested them pretty good and tell you all the good and bad things about it.

      I don't recommend the two spring removal trick. Swap 3 of them with the KTM springs. 140 hours on a '19 model before clutch replacement.
