@koifurigana I wasn't so much referring just to the makeup. It's like when you write a paper about something you've read, vs. Writing a paper about something you've experienced. Correct me if I’m wrong, but I believe the eyeliner you referred to as “henna” is actually “kajal” for the Middle Eastern Vamp look. I might be wrong though!
Yeah tf, lining your eyes with henna....has anyone in the history of ever done that? Kajal is just kohl, black soot mixed with a bit of oil
As a middle easterner, yeah it's kajal/kohl lol
Yup! Kajal indeed. I do not know what this video and it's people are doing 😀 and refuse to think about it 🕴️
It is called kajal like tf??
@@nm9688 I knew that sounded weird
WOAH, no scene makeup, attributing dark lips to Rhianna alone, and making a random statement about non-binary vamps that doesn’t seem particularly relevant to the video itself. Yikes.
5:46 “Rihanna experiments with Goth makeup, encouraging others to do the same.”
Lol….. what. Yes thank you Rihanna for single-handedly reviving goth / punk. I’m sure you and your pop music were the only reason goth and punk were brought back 😒
Rihanna my favourite goth icon 🥴
* Slaps a bit of black makeup on their faces*
Allure: ya this is accurate
AND THEY DIDN'T EVEN ADD MUCH like guys really thats tame
I feel like this video was made by people that used to tell me "it's not halloween" or couldn't supress their urge to scream "freak" at me in the halls in high school.
exactly. im confused by the makeup artists, they seem to be goth themselves?? look at their outfits
@koifurigana I wasn't so much referring just to the makeup. It's like when you write a paper about something you've read, vs. Writing a paper about something you've experienced. It lacks something that I can't quite pinpoint how to say, but I akin the overall tone to those people in high school gave off.
Just because you wear eyeliner doesnt mean your alt
"Punks rejected the hippie movement"
- shows the peace sign at the end -
That was not the piece signe it is a rude hand gesture in britan/France
300th like
That wasn’t a peace sign.
It's the equivalent to flipping the bird in the UK LOL
This V means victory
i love how these videos sound factual but it’s actually complete bs 😌
Because it’s buzzfeed, but then again it’s buzzfeed
fr lmao
Literally lol
Right???
Why do you love it
The 70’s onward were my eras. And I can truly say that the hair and makeup featured here is totally wrong. You get a point for effort but - on everything else. And when you do another makeup and hair compilation please do your research and ask the people who actually lived through those years and took their makeup and hair seriously (like me)
Are we really surprised they skipped the whole emo scene days of the 2000’s? Their ‘100 years of whatever beauty’ ALWAYS presents half assed looks that are only partially accurate
Accurate
Gelina Vines They skipped them cause they have nothing to do with goth or punk, as the title suggests.
Linni Binni emo music is literally just pop punk so yes it is still related
@@lnbni even with that, the things presented here as "punk" or "goth" are either unrelated or on the other hand, the correct ones are poorly represented
they only care to showcase (tip of the iceberg) conventionally accepted/attractive parts of fashion trends. its so clear that no one on the production team is into any type of alt or unpopular fashion, which is fine, its just that they also didn't bother to do actual research into the subcultures 😭
I expected Vampira for the 50's and Siouxsie for the 80's...
And Elvira in the 90's or almost metion her
Same!
THE SPIKY HAIRED ONE GOT ME SHOOKETH
I really didn't like how they did the makeup for the 90's and 2000's not really goth at all
I agree. I was a teenager in the 90's and VERY goth, lol. They basically made the 90's model grunge with dark makeup. That definitely isn't the goth era I remember-it was corsets and velvet and vinyl and pleather. I'm not sure what kind of research was done for this video, but it definitely seems like it was Google research without consulting anyone that is familiar with the history of goth style.
@@JennRighter Completely agree. I was a 90's goth and the makeup and style here is all wrong
I thought it was wrong too. I'm watching thinking uuummm that's not how we did it lol
Fr though.
I thought they would mention heroin chic or Marilyn Manson. I mean, I guess heroin chic isn't "goth" but it was pretty dark.
They skipped 1996's The Craft and the impact it had on the goth scene. Missed the mark spectacularly.
Angela Benedict made a really great video on this subject.
Truth!!!
As a punk I would like to say, punk and goth are not the same thing and I don't even know what to vamp is
One of the most historically and aesthetically inaccurate videos I have ever seen. You can tell they barely researched the subjects mentioned in this video.
its weird to think that 2020 will soon be a category.
gabriela vallenilla be the yes the bts not soon, 6 more years till that happens
-i am confusion.-
It probably won't be a category until we're at least a few years into the 2020's.
3:34 This guy's hair reminds me a lot of Neo Metal Sonic's quill design which was first seen in Sonic Heroes in 2003.
I stopped watching the moment they showed that extremely inaccurate 1920s look (long fuzzy/modern hair? That lipstick? Why?)
nikol karidi they always get 20s fashion wrong arrrrrrrrghhh
They recreated a Theda Bara look. It's actualy accurate. And the black lipstick was used sometimes for the black and white movies in that time, to create more contrast on the movie.
I didn't wear MCR shirts and fry my side bangs to a crisp with a straightener in 2009 for y'all to call "Steampunk" the defining goth look of the 2000s lmaooooooo
You do know that emo, steampunk and goth are three very different subcultures, right ?
That sounds like emo to me, not goth.
Emo has nothing to do with the goth subculture lmao
Noémie DeSantis So are punk and vamp, but they made those synonymous with goth, they may as well go the whole 9 yards and put in the defining alternative look of the decade regardless.
This is emo. Not goth
okay but the guy with the long hair suited the dark, unblended black eye makeup so welllllll
Girl this makeup is so badly blended and poorly applied I’m so mad about it
not even blended
how could you forget the iconic era of scene girls?!
I agree! Scene girls/boys belong in this video for sure!
Definitely not
Honestly can’t forget that phase 🙌🏻
Not goth
Keyana Little cause they have nothing to do with goth. Misconceptions, all of it
I like how the 1960's makeup look made it fun.
More like 100 years of smokey eyes and dark-ish lipstick
Honestly, yeah
Yami Requiem it makes me so sad how people forget the history behind the goth and punk scene; how it’s so much more about the music, subculture and politics than the fashion.
and the eyeshadow wasn’t even blended 😭
This hurts my feelings,
I have never been so offended by something I 100% agree with
I’m a freelance writer who covers these subgenres *and* used to be a makeup artist. Allure: if you’re listening, let me come help you fix this.
I’m sCREAMING THIS IS SO INNACCURATE
Wish they included cybergoth, emo/scene, ska, greaser, mod, haute goth, lolita (got a nod in pastel goth, credit where due), psychobilly, skate (though I guess it could be considered alt nation), etc. Also, not a safetypin to be seen?! Le gasp!
Uuuuh.. what have emo, scene, greaser, ska, psychobilly and skate got to do with GOTH and PUNK culture ?
@@thatbitchnoemie These are all subsections of goth/punk/vamp fashion and some of the older ones like ska, mod, and greaser (especially) are direct origins of a lot of modern looks in the punk scene
@@AllOfMyLoveTess Honey cybergoth and emo and pastel goth are NOT subsections of goth gtfo
@@thatbitchnoemie Oh my apologies! I didn't realize you were one of those gatekeeper people. I'll finish our conversation here then. Thank you.
@@AllOfMyLoveTess Facts are not gatekeeping, but whatevs buddy lol
If you’re going to profit off of a rich subculture most don’t understand in hopes of ‘educating’ you may as well get it right 🙄🙄
they completely missed out what started most of the goth subculture, trad goths. and it's the same with emo and scene, they missed them out aswell.
Putting Mortician Addams and Rihanna in the same video as “gothic icons” is disrespectful. Also I know this is inspired by the characters but Morticia would never ever wear pastel eyeshadow!
HAHAHA, this made me think of the movie: "All this I can forgive. But Debbie- pastels?" LOL :)
Ribbin Exactly!
that was not Morticia. that was Lily Munster, and she had blue eyeshadow
@@alinearaujo7285 don't defend this honey.. they combined two very different characters for one "look." Why mention Morticia and have the model *snap* if it wasn't meant to be a play on both characters.
That was Lily
I was waiting to find my 2000s emo look with colorful back-combed hair, bangs over the eyes, and hot topic.
Im glad they added pastel goth at the end, but what about cyberpunk??
Im disappointed.
same XD
I'm really sad about this
5:16
The only thing steampunk about this is the neck piece, and that's way more just Victorian.
WHERE ARE THE SCENE GIRLS
They're not in here because they are NOT GOTH.
